Amazing resort

The Now Onyx in Punta Cana is the best resort we have stayed at. We were in bldg. 5100 with a swim-up room. The service was the best we have experienced. This resort is definitely a 5 star. The beaches were great, no difficulty in getting lounges any time of the day. The pool area had lots of activities and also no difficulty in getting lounges any time of day. Our favourite restaurant was Spice.

Needs some attention

The good: beautiful grounds and pool, beach is nice (lots of seaweed and big waves when we were there. Facilities are nice and new - it’s only been opened a year. The bad: despite being only a year old, the rooms already have a lot of issues. Mould and musty smell, improperly functioning AC, TV that breaks and you call multiple times but it’s never fixed, which meant we couldn’t access any of they hotel info such as which restaurants are open when, mini fridge broke but we did manage t [... read more]o get that fixed, spa tub on the deck that drained onto the deck. The ugly: the food. It’s pretty bad, especially the buffet. Things sit too long and the hot food is cold while the cold food is warm. Some of the specialty restaurants are ok (the grill and the French) but I am still recovering from the food and I have a strong constitution (it’s almost been a week).

Now Onyx is truly Fantastic Resort

Luxury resort with friendly staff. Quality of the rooms are not the best but pools and restaurants are fantastic. Try the French and Stake house restaurant as they offer top notch quality food. Just be careful not be trapped by the marketing team as they offer you bunch of useless coupons to sit down and listen to their waste of time sells pitch for half a day. Enjoy and have a nice vacation!

Loved our stay

I found this resort to be an easy one to get around and the set up was nicely done, Our purpose was to have a safe, relaxing stay and to enjoy good walks on the beach, ocean time, swim time and eat lots of veges and fruits. I travel with a walker and found it to be an easy resort to manouver. I was able to access the carts as needed however found that all areas were accessible to me with the exception of the inner pool area via land as there were stairs to climb and decend however the bar was ac [... read more]cessible via the pool so parking the walker near the lazy river and getting in a good walk in the water was attainable with ease. The main building housed the front lobby bar, the entertainment stage, a cafe with great freshly made espresso based coffees, teas, and a sweets, tea sandwich cooler, an ice cream parlour, and a Burger shop. It felt like we were going into little cafes, shops however this being all inclusive no money required just pop in sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.The dining area was similar in that is felt like little restaurants. We enjoyed the Spice as well as the Mecure. The morning breakfast was served at the buffet, a juice bar offered smoothies and blended juices from a good variety of fruits and veges, fresh espresso and regular coffee was available. The Barefoot Grill offered awesome roast chicken and at times fried chicken as well as hamburgers, salads, fruits, fries, chili, taco chips and cheese. Ernesto was our special connection at the beach grill he ensured we got beverages, always greeting us with a big smile and caring ways. This vacation was a much needed healing time and we were not disappointed. The staff were attentive, supportive special mention to Olivia Concierge, Lissa Front Lobby Ambassedor, Aris and Zorrilo Butlers who kept an eye out on us. The rooms offer comfy beds, cozy linens. The balcony spacious, bug free with a fun jaccuzi just need to ensure you fill it up past the jets. The grounds are well kept and nicely laid out. We needed to be able to relax and feel safe and we got that. We are already looking at how we can book another stay.

Truly Amazing Resort

I love my all inclusive vacations and over the years, have stayed at resorts in Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica and the DR. Even though I'm Jamaican, the DR is my favourite vacation destination. In the DR, I've previously enjoyed the Majestic Elegance and various Bahia Principe resorts, which were also really good. I will intentionally leave out the names of those that specifically served us with excellence because I want those reading my review to know that there is no ulterior motive for writing this review. The resort simply employs excellent staff members who love their job and it filters through their service. Prior to our trip, I emailed the resort asking them kindly to provide us with an upper floor room with a nice view, I was floored to find out that they had upgraded us to the Preferred Club. Our room was gorgeous with a pool and ocean view! This resort greatly exceeded our expectations. Because we are foodies, I was most concerned about the food because we enjoy our flavours and spices. However, the food was excellent! My boyfriend loves his steak and he got to enjoy some. The staff was very friendly and helpful with outstanding service. There wasn't anything they weren't willing to do for you. The grounds were immaculately kept, the beach was warm and welcoming. The grounds and pools were gorgeous. Unfortunately, because of Hurricane Maria, we were evacuated and could only enjoy 2 days of paradise. My boyfriend didn't want to come home. We both can't wait to return to this resort as soon as things get cleaned up. We will definitely be back.

Great hotel: clean & modern with friendly staff

Stayed 7 days in double occupency room on second floor. Room is big and well designed. Although the website states that there are 10 restaurants, there are only 5 (other ones are at sister hotel and you only have access after 6 pm). The buffet is the best: it has variety, quality and tasty food. The ice cream parlour only has 4 ice cream flavours (same one everyday). The Coco Cafe offers nice pastries. The concierges are helpful (Geison is fantastic) and the staff every where on site is friendly [... read more]. The gym is great as it offers a nice selection of work out equipment. Don't buy excursions with hotel reps as you can get better prices (and deal them down) with reps on the beach. Get your own taxis outside hotel (way cheaper).

Brand new resort, clean & modern

Stayed 7 days in king size bed swim up room. Was worthy to pay a little extra to have the swim up. No stairs to get to room. Rooms are spacious: nice bathroom & comfortable bed. The hotel is very clean and the staff is super friendly & helpful. Best food is at the International Cafe (buffet), the Spice (Asian) and the Italian restaurants are not good. Nice gym to work out (open 24 hrs) and nice tennis courts. Drinks are good and the beach is nice although there are better beaches (Bavaro & Macao [... read more]). The landscape (gardens) is beautiful and the lay out gives easy access to every area of the hotel. Area outside hotel is very safe and Dominicans & Haitians are nice and friendly. Excursions and transportation offered by the hotel are over priced; buy your excursions with the beach reps (Valentino & Ulysse) and don't be afraid of using taxis from the plaza outside hotel. You can deal down their prices and unlike what the hotel reps say, it is safe to do business with them. The Spa services are ridiculously over priced (even with the 50% off coupons they give you). Get them at home instead.

Beautiful resort , but there are some points that need close attention ?

This resort is very nice and still has the new atmosphere. However there were a few issues that prevented us from having a great trip like we had our hearts set on. 1. We had some issues with food that we addressed . Attention to it was fair but not to any scene of urgency until we pushed the issue.. 2. Bad rain storm caused flooding in rooms ,facilities.Also contaminated pools and part of the beach washed away made for not a great vacation. . 3. The employees at the resort were very nice  [... read more]and helpful, did their best despite the language barrier with many, who found it difficult to communicate. More training would be recommended on this for sure.. 4. I rated three as fair below due to the food issues, and the problems due to the storm that maybe some should not have happened and had a negative effect on about half of our vacation that had a premium price tag on it. 5. Some entertainment was great , other shows were ok. . I know the resort is new and still getting things at hand but first impressions are lasting and many times if not up to par don't promote referrals to others to entice them to visit a particular resort. 6. We had problems with the shower in our room that wasn't attended to until after bringing it up many times. /> 7. I would say a definite yes to a recommendation if the above concerns were addressed and action taken where control is possible, really it is a yes but!!

Asbolutely fantastic!!!

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here the end of April and had the most amazing time. The staff were so entertaining and nice and friendly. This resort is very clean and beautiful and brand new. We had a gorgeous suite and many different swimming pools to enjoy. There were many delicious choices for food and drinks. Amazing family vacation!

The resort was clean, modern and beautiful! The perfect size for families! Loved the kids pool with the view of the ocean! Staff was amazing, entertainment was incredible! Food was decent. We will definitely be back!

Now Onyx Punta Cana - AWESOME resort!

This resort exceeded expectations, we would highly recommend (but kinda' don't want to only because we'd like to keep the secret so that their future prices don't go up! lol) - We stayed as a couple in our early-40's. - Food was excellent, including the buffet....didn't have a bad meal. They even had healthy/natural options which was great! - Room was great...spacious & well designed. We elected for the "preferred club swim-out king" and it was perfectly located. "Preferred Club" was well  [... read more]worth the extra money; waiters were in abundance throughout the day, never went more than 10-15 mins. without a someone checking with us. Cleaning staff came around twice daily (I think due to being preferred club) which was great + a separate beverage service to fill up our mini-fridge and/or any other beverages we wanted. One of the best perks was the Preferred Club Lounges which not only had top shelf liquor but also had food/munchies morning to night. The P-C Lounge also enabled us to check out privately which went extremely smoothly. - Service all-around was OUTSTANDING @this resort.....from our butler, Manuel (who was awesome), to the Preferred Club Lounge bartenders & Concierges...and also the wait staff around the pools + on the beach. - The beach was amazing - MUCH better than Bavaro Beach - and not nearly as busy. We walked it every day, sometimes twice! We would definitely recommend this resort - easily the best resort we've stayed at thus far! Great Resort

We ( myself, my husband, my son age 12 and my daughter age 6) had a great time here. We spent our full week on the resort. While the resort was not large there was lots to do. My family loves the water and spent a great deal of time in the pools and at the beach. My son played basketball, tennis, played pool and joined in events on the beach (egg toss Olympics). My daughter discovered the Explorers Club and spent a little time there doing bottle panting, treasure hunts, ping pong, and the kids  [... read more]disco. One place we couldn't keep them away from was the ice cream parlour. They also loved climbing the floating wall in the pool. We ate well the staff were great especially the ladies in the Explorers club . We had a swim out room, our own little pool. and it was nice to relax around either before we went to the main pool or after our day at the main pool. My husband and I loved spending time as a family and playing and watching our kids enjoy themselves. We also relaxed while laying by the pool. There is a great adult only preferred pool/ area which looks amazing and i would love to try. Would I go there again? Absolutely!

Loved every minute of it!

Brand new resort, so the vegetation hasn't had a lot of time to grow, but you could see it will be fabulous in a short time. The room, grounds and beach were awesome. We were there with my sister and husband, we enjoyed each and every meal. Most were to die for, with a couple that we found just good. We shared a taste of each others meals at each dinner, so this is a group opinion.Having access to Breathless next door was great, we ate dinner there one night. the food was was great there as well [... read more]. We took turns as couples to walk through dreams next door which was a well established resort with fantastic foliage. Now for the staff, they were plentiful, attentive and eager to please. Special mention to Darma Powers at breakfast and dinners. Estaban in the breakfast buffet was an absolute hoot! The serving staff on the beach was close to annoying with their regularity. LOL! Lets just say that we never had to wait more than a few minutes to order a drink. Make sure you are aware of the sliding wall in your room, when you close it at night, it keeps out entire hallway noise of slamming doors or cleaning staff in the morning. This was not a "party" resort, there were a few children around, but we didn't find then intrusive at all. Enough entertainment to keep you occupied, dancing in the courtyard starting about 10:30 after the show, the activity staff kept everyone going through the day and into the night. If you want to party all night, a 7 minute walk next door to Breathless takes you there. As you can tell, this reviewer had a great time, would recommend it to anyone that wants a blend of relaxation with activities. :)

Excellente....Top Notch Resort

Nothing but good things to say about this resort. Although we arrived there in the wee hours of Sunday morning, the front desk staff greeted us with a nice "WELCOME HOME" We were tired, and a bit hungry, and where still able to get some food from the burger bar that was still open :) We were taken to our room, and were shown the room in detail. Just show up, and if the line was too long at one, you could go and check out another :) The entire staff were fantastic :) Very friendly, and helpful. Simon (Bartender from pool bar) These are only a few of the many that helped to make this a very wonderful vacation for us. We would definitely return to this resort for another vacation

Great Vacation

This hotel surpassed our expectations, especially for a brand new resort (only 3 months old). The grounds were beautiful, and will only improve over time as the palm trees grow in. The different swimming pools were also great! We had a swim out room on the ground floor. The actual hotel buildings were modern, and the rooms were extremely large. The beach was great, some waves, but also some calm parts. Lots of shade on the beach and lots of palm trees. Sand was golden in colour and ve [... read more]ry fine. No mosquitoes to be seen anywhere. We usually get bitten, and not one bite on this trip! The staff were all excellent, friendly, and very helpful. A true 5* experience.

Beautiful resort

The rooms were big and bright but I did not enjoy the sandle wood scent. Great amenities and entertainment. There was and an excellent choice of food. The deserts were excellent and the food did not stay out for long.

when we first arrived at now onyx I knew this would be an amazing resort. check in was a breeze, and staff was so welcoming . the resort grounds are beautiful and has an amazing beach front. we had a swim up room and let's say I couldn't go to another resort without one. There was a bar 15 feet from our room and wait staff wpukd bring us drinks right to our room- talk about service. the rooms were spacious and beautiful. had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. there was a bar fridge, which w [... read more]as stocked daily. room service at end time of day and night and was there within 10 mins everytime. every single person that worked there was amazing. they would all go out of their way to make you happy and get you what you needed. the food was very good and lost of variety- wish there was more seafood but not a huge issue. this resort was a little low key and more for families but breathless is a 3 min walk and is very lively, which you have full access to - so you can have the best of both worlds. overall I enjoyed this resort and have nothing negative to say. i would recommend this resort to friends and family.

Great resort

The Now Onyx is a great resort that needs a few tweaks to make it an excellent resort. This was expected due to being a newer resort. There is plenty to due at the resort with the hotel staff having something going on all day long. You couldn't ask for a friendlier staff and house keeping was very accommodating always doing little things to keep us happy. Food was great, and staff always made sure you had a drink in your hand around the pool or at the beach. The only down fall about the rooms i [... read more]s that there was a musky smell in the rooms due to the humidity so I was told. I asked other people and it seems it was the same in most rooms.

Now Onyx Punta Cana - Nice property but, past that good luck!

We vacationed at Now Onyx in Punta Cana from December 9th - 15th. Lost a day because of Air Canada (not weather related) that is another story. Yes, Now Onyx greet you with a welcome drink and a wet cloth and you think it is great ..........this is where it stops. First of all the property is lovely. The Service is very disorganized and poorly managed. One of the biggest complaints we have is the filming of promos for their resort on our paid holiday. We were instructed to not use the  [... read more]beach until 10:30 AM, to not use the pool another day until 12:00 Noon. Could not use the main lobby bar at 7:00 PM before dinner another day, in other words filming each day at various places with many interruptions during our 6 day vacation. Rooms were nice but, absolutely non consistence service. Many days without even cleaning the room, let alone replacement of towels or face clothes, soap etc. We had to repeatedly ask for soap, towels etc. Not once did they even clean the tub on the balcony even thought we asked at least 5 times.............filled with insects etc. We gave up. They shower leaked into the bedroom and toilet area, fan in the room was making a racket every time you turned it on. They did try to fix it. The safe in the room did not work , that too had to be fixed. I guess this list could go on and on. Food was just acceptable. We have travelled to Dominican about 9-10 times to various other resorts so, we were aware of what to expect . The service staff at the beach and the restaurants were trying their best but, English was certainly not part of their training. Yes, we have been to many places in Cuba, Dominican, Mexico etc and we understand that English is not their first language. However, here very few understood enough English to allow basic communication. There are two resort both owned by the same company, Breathless next door. Since their resort was full, many from that resort came to Now Onyx taking up the limited number of umbrellas for shade at the pool and other areas. It could be the issues experienced related to the fact that is was a relatively new resort that said, I doubt we would be going back anytime soon.
