Nice resort, kind staff yet disappointing service

The administration of this hotel, although very polite, doesn’t know their job. Our electronic entrance door didn’t work and it took them 2 days to repair the lock. It took them 2 days to resolve broken toilet problem. The food was OK but it felt the hotel was struggling with supplies. The handling of covid regulations was ridiculous: they require now wearing a mask from guests, yet allowing restaurants to be overcrowded. It was painful to see all staff in masks in places where the chance of [... read more] catching the virus would be equivalent to zero. The hotel however I believe tries its best to survive in these difficult times and I wish them the best.

Home away from home

This hotel is one of the best in Cuba . I have visited all over Cuba 13x and I have been to the Muthu 3 times . This year I was here July 10 Thani august 14 th 2021 . This resort is absolutely beautiful and has some of the most hard working and caring people I have ever met !! The hotel is newer one with beautiful, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Amazing hotel

I was there from July 24-31st and I highly recommend this place. from the main lobby to the restaurant, to the buffet and snack bars, to the djs and entertainment, the cleaning staff, the staff were incredible hosts. they went above and beyond my expectations, and i give them a 10/10. Alberto is kind and generous. Ernesto from Grand Caribe was total gentleman and invited me to enjoy a day of fun at another great hotel. I feel blessed to have enjoyed the Grand Muthu family.

Grand Muthu

The hotel is a perfect size not to big. We were in building 4 close to pools and main lobby snack bar beach was about 5 min walk . The room we had a beautiful view of the ocean unfortunately the sinks and shower leaked no issues with water pressure the toilet hard to flush rooms are looking aged for a newer resort. Beach is nice lots of seewed not cleaned well enough. Pool are ok cold could be better maintenaned you can see plastic cups straws float around. Service is good the bartender are good some better than others the cleaning ladies do a good job but only give you 2 bath towels mini fridge wasnt restocked daily no beer .We tipped brought a lot of gifts and where great full for all the hard work they do.

Well appointed hotel

The Grand Muthu was a great place to stay. Rooms were always clean, with lovely bedding/towels and the bed/mattress allowed me to rest comfortably --and I have arthritis. Staff were polite and always helpful. The food was good and there was more than enough variety. Everyone/everything made my trip worthwhile. Amazing Resort

Absolutely amazing resort! Extremely clean, friendly staff and great food. The main buffet is a little small for the resort but there were two smaller buffets to go to or you could wait until after the “big rush” to eat. Five pools including a kids pool and a swim up bar pool. There is also a beautiful beach with cabanas and loungers. There’s a kids club and games for young and old at the pool. Great excursions. I would highly recommend the MGM Grand Muthu in Cayo Coco Cuba!

Worst resort

I’ve been to Cuba 4 times and this is by far the worst resort I’ve been too. Because of this I will never go back to Cuba again. No hot water for 3 days, sometimes there were no plates or utensils in the buffet restaurant. We made a reservation at a al a carte for 13 people and they seated 8 adults at one table and all the kids at another table at the other end of the restaurant while there was a empty table beside us. A good time with some minor annoyances

The facilities are nice and have been redone from the bottom up within the last 2 years but neglect is starting to creep in. Our bathroom and shower worked perfectly but I heard complaints from other buildings about problems (Request building 3 if possible, we found it to be in the perfect location) The beach and pool complexes (including the kids water section) are accommodating for all on sunny days although people 'reserve' seats and don't show up. Food service doesn't start until 1pm for lunch and 6:30pm for dinner in the buffet so people with children should prepare accordingly. Expect long lineups for fresh cooked foods in the buffet. There isn't enough staff at the hot stations to keep up with demand. If you don't mind sticking to the hot trays of food lineups won't be an issue. There are a ton of rice and pasta dishes, but you will get sick of all of them within a few days. Outside of that the a la cartes are good and service is acceptable. For a Cuban resort it is better than most but you need to generally lower your expectations for Cuba in general. A Cuban 4, but a Caribbean 3.

Beautiful resort

We have been to this resort 3 times and love it more and more each time. Planning a family vacation this summer. Even thou it was a busy time, we enjoyed everything the hotel had to offer. Totally recommend.

Great family resort!

Spent a week at this resort in March 2020. The resort was really great - everything was very modern and clean. The resort was fully booked so there were many guests, mostly young families. The resort appeared to be understaffed but they were all working very hard. The buffet had a good selection and my group of six people never went hungry. Definitely a good resort for kids and families.

Relaxing Getaway

We were pleased to spend our vacation at the Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo ; Upon arrival we were welcomed by friendly staff with refreshments and promptly checked in.The rooms were bright,clean and comfortable. Pretty resort,clean and well maintained and easy to find every thing .Loves the beach and fun activities,nightly entertainment ,friendly bar staff who made all our requests.alwys something to eat for all.

Several issues.

Beautiful building and grounds. Well appointed rooms. Buffet lines very crowded. No teaspoons to be found. Food was hit and miss. Indian a la carte was very good. Seafood restaurant not a good choice. No soda water at resort. Toilets plugged up. After second time that maintenance was called, he informed us that this was Cuba and we were not to put toilet paper in toilet. No info about that from hotel. Have been to Cuba several times, never been an issue before. Money exchange happ [... read more]ens at main desk. When you tried to change $20.00 or $10.00, the usual comment, was they were unable to provide change. We had to pay 15 CUC for towel deposit. We did get it back at the end, but never had to put money down for towels before. Best restaurant was an open air area, off the beach. BBQ lobster that you paid for, but it was a beautiful peaceful area. No info about this at hotel. We happened to find it. Staff who cleaned rooms were great and very obliging.

Don’t do it!

It is so unfortunate that this resort was so understaffed. There is a lot of great potential but standing in 30 minute lines for not good food and fighting over plates is not my idea of a vacation. The staff tried their best but there just wasn’t enough of them. Fighting to sit at a dirty table is just gross. We will not return.

Not recommended

Food was very low quality ,service was not the best ,February was too windy for a beach vacation, no beach entertainment ,ocean beautiful crystal clear ,night time shows were good ,clean room(towels had a bad odour ),no value for the priced paid

I intended to book online but due to a price difference, I had to call in. I wanted to book at Gran Muthu Imperial (adults only) my confirmation was for Gran Muthu Cayo Guillermo (families). I wrongly assumed Cayo Guillermo was part of the address, not a different resort My fault, I should of called back. The resorts are side by side & the reviews appear to be similar. This was our first time in Cuba & our expectations were not high, so, were not surprised by the food. The lines for custom grilled meat or fish, blocked access to the side dishes causing people to cut in & out. The staff worked incredibly hard & was always friendly. The activities team was great & the dancers were amazing. Remember fellow tourists, treat others as you would like to be treated. Please, excuse me & thank you, go a long way. People who had been to Cuba before were not impressed with this resort, would not come back & suggested other places for us to try. The rumor was that owners/management had changed & perhaps were cost cutting. Therefore, fewer kitchen/dining/house keeping staff, maintenance men to repairs toilets public& in rooms. There were stained seat cushions in the lobby & every dining area.. The lobby was large with a great bar & many seats to socialize however, there were smokers, including cigars everywhere & although 1/2 of the lobby was supposed to be smoke free, there were few signs to indicate this. As non smokers, there were times we had to leave because of the stench. A request of our French Canadian travelers, just because we don't speak french does not mean we are deaf, shouting through us to talk to others,is rude!!!

5 * resort ??? NOT

Well we came back from this resort Friday , this was my second time in Cuba , I’ve been too 4 stars before travelled DR dozen times , Jamaica twice .. We went with a couple who went last year , they were surprised at the changed ...We aren’t fussy eaters but do expect hot food ..Pros ... beautiful resort pool area , loungers , rooms ,staff .. always had hot water ....Cons... We’d be at buffet early .. breakfast, one toaster , line up omelette delicious but short staff, lunch warm fries  [... read more]food cold , from pasta too anything cooked, The buffet chairs were cloth fabric were filthy , we were fortunate to do a la carte restaurants .Italian was our favourite.. Beach area not seaweed, everywhere. Would we go back likely not .

Very nice Resort

This is one of the best resorts we have visited in Cuba. They have very clean rooms, efficient services and well-trained personnel. In our case we had an issue from the previous visitors in our bathroom and after we called room services the technician arrived in about 15 minutes and fixed everything. The beaches are gorges. The food is fine. An Indian food restaurant was our favorite with their remarkable service. Front lobby personnel are very polite and helpful. Our special thanks to FYB manager for his time and affords he put to accommodate some of our special needs. Unlike other hotels we've been before, we could easy find a manager on premises and discuss any additional services and special needs. We spend a nice vacation here and definitely recommend this resort to our friends and family.

Service disappointing

The service in this hotel the week of February 11 to 18 was terrible. This was our 6th vacation to Cuba so I know not everything is going to be perfect, but when every meal in the buffet area your looking for a dinner plate, clean table, cutlery or drink of water mostly all of the above at every seating gets me angry. We cancelled our 2nd ala cart at that restaurant promptly after that. The other choices were Indian which no one in our party of 6 would consider and Italian. We did enjoy the Italian ala cart (kids 6 & 5) ate pizza, the best meal they ate the whole vacation! The service lacking in the buffet area was extremely noticeable by other guests as well. We’re the supervisors away that week! All employees when working were usually talking together in groups of 2-3. The hotel was dirty in public areas as well. Stairwells, washrooms & swimming pools. The customer service person I told her to get someone to clean the smaller pool outside the lobby entrance, which was shallower so filled with lots of kids. My grandchildren swam in it every day, and drank the water to my disgust, but he’s just learning to swim. The pool got murky come the weekend and still was never cleaned. I know there was problems in the pool area of the kids club (rusty nails and screws found in and around it) it looked dilapidated, fence boards missing and stacked up. That’s why my grandchildren were swimming in the other pool. For a resort that was recommended by my agent and was supposed to be only 2-3 years old it was sadly very disappointing. My room on the other hand I found to be cleaned well and had a great view of the ocean.

Great Vacation

Very friendly staff in all areas. The food was above average with good variety. Entertainment was very good. Different to find 10 pin bowling at the nearby shopping area. Rooms were large and nicely furnished, the bathroom was spacious. Only drawbacks was the loss of water on tice during our two week stay.

Great Resort!

Grand Muthu was a fantastic Cuban resort! We were a group of 10 people and have been to Cayo Coco 7 times to other resorts. This was by far the best one we have stayed at. The grounds had nice landscaping and were very clean and well maintained. The rooms were modern and spacious and were cleaned daily. The staff were all so accommodating even when we needed additional help one of the managers Rafael went above and beyond to help us out. The beach was fantastic and lots of chairs and shade were near the beach bar. Past that there was a very wide open empty beach. Overall, this resort and staff were great.
