GR Solaris Caribe Adults Only: 3 dressed up like a 7
After being closed for an extended period of time for renovations management has done a very poor job of improving the most important aspects of travel ambience and food . putting a goofy tarp overhead on half the pool killed previous enjoyable surroundings, food quality is marginal too much of same dishes at all meals , stick to fish and chicken . Chefs don’t know how to cook beef even expensive cuts in reservation restaurants. After coming here 7 times will NOT return again

Iberostar Selection Coral Cancun: Cancun Getaway
My Wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Iberostar for a much-needed vacation. Our goal was to recharge, relax, and reconnect, and we accomplished just that. This hotel truly has everything a family or couple could want. It's clean, well laid out, and the beach is absolutely beautiful. The white sand, stunning ocean, and comfortable lounge chairs made it a perfect spot for lounging. There are vendors that stroll up and down the beach, but they do not harass you. The beach also felt [... read more]very secure with a consistent police presence.
From the moment we arrived until the time we departed, the staff were exceptional. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and it was clear that they are happy to be working for Iberostar. They genuinely want to make sure their guests are well taken care of. One standout was Darling, a chef at La Barca, who went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. A small example of her top-tier service: I prefer Greek plain yogurt, and when Darling noticed that the buffet didn't have any, she made sure it arrived at my table. The next day, Greek plain yogurt was available at the station. This level of service truly impressed me.
The adult pool servers were just as attentive, always ready to move umbrellas for shade, serve drinks promptly, and greet us with warm smiles. There were several restaurants to choose from, though we found the Italian restaurant to be less impressive and only dined there once. Our favorite was the Mediterranean restaurant, where both the service and the food were outstanding. One area for improvement at the resort would be upgrading the wine selection included in the package. For the price of the stay, the quality of the wines should be better, and guests should not have to purchase bottles separately.
The evening entertainment was ok, with events every night that provided a nice activity after dinner. During the day, we participated in pickleball, yoga, and visited the gym. A special shout out to Gabriel, who led our pickleball sessions. Gabriel truly cares about his guests and goes above and beyond to ensure a positive and memorable experience. He even took the time to teach me how to play pickleball.
Our room was clean and serviced twice a day, with notifications from the app when it was ready. The housekeeping team was attentive and did a great job, though the rooms themselves were just okay. The hallways had carpet that appeared dirty and could use some attention.
Lastly, the concierge team was fantastic. Alessandro, our contact, was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Looks good.
Also, tipping isn’t necessary but very much appreciated. They don’t make much and a dollar or two is welcomed for sure.
I would usually tip the housekeeper (40 to 50 pesos a day) about $2.50 US.
Waiters/Waitresses about the same.
Overall, the resort is definitely worth visiting. The exceptional staff, beautiful beach, and various activities made our stay memorable and rejuvenating.

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf and Spa: Great relaxing resort yet close to everything
2nd time there. Very nice rooms, excellent food, pools are clean and lots of loungers, towels, great. Service. Transportation scheduling app. A little confusing, and not clear. But service itself is good. No surprises at the resort to speak of.
Loved it again!

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Lovely resort, some issues around the service
Overall the resort was great, but the check in and front desk staff weren’t very welcoming or helpful, while servers and many staff were lovely it felt like other staff didn’t provide needed information and weren’t helpful. I’d also say that booking transport to and from the airport separately would have improved the experience since we waited over an hour to leave the airport while they organized the transport provided and then spent longer dropping off other guests in other areas

Viva Maya by Wyndham: Very good resort
The location is excellent. The beach is amazing. The rooms are good. All of the staff are very good. The food is decent. The efforts of all the staff was the best I have ever seen. They were the most caring about the guests and had a lot of serving staff, maids, bartenders and security presence which enhances and makes you feel appreciated, safe and truly welcome.

Flamingo Vallarta: Nice resort
We spent last week at this resort, it is quiet clean and the grounds are lovely. My only complaint is the food is sub standard. Very little choice and what didn't go the night before was re done some how and back the next day. Each day the bar had run out of something, 3 dinners had no white wine, 2 no red wine. I asked for a vodka and soda and he said well you will have to pay extra for the soda which I found odd. The marina and surrounding area is lovely, a great place to walk around. The ni[... read more]ght we arrived my husband thought he would have a treat and ordered a tequila....they were out of tequila. The pool area is lovely I was hoping for some aqua fit but there is nothing like that. We have been to Mexico many times, if this resort could do something about the food we would go back but as it is definitely not.

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Uneventful vacation
This was a very small resort which we knew before booking. The staff cater to repeat guests and no pool chairs are available as they are all reserved before 600am to frequent guests. No buffet for dinner so if you don't like the food at the resteraunt you order room service. Resteraunts were ok but not flavorful food except for the tapinaki.
Constantly ran out of booze at the only open bar. Not top shelf booze. This si the kind of resort that you are forced to relax cause there is literall[... read more]y nothing to do. They had craft classes and other classes during the days but they were all booked before we even got there by the members. Drink service at pools and beach was poor for new guests waiting sometimes an hour.
Average age of guests is 60.
Had a relaxing vacation in this small resort so thankful for that. Just not worth the money we paid for it. Lotts of other smaller resorts are cheaper in playacar this resort only caters to repeat guests. Beach was nice but a whole lot of jellyfish in the ocean knee deep so didn't go in. Heated pool is nice but no chairs available even at six am

GR Solaris Lighthouse: Amazing resort and staff!
Eric, the Food and Beverage Manager gave us peace of mind during our stay. He was professional and introduced us to the chef every evening for supper because of a food allergy. He also put on a Mexican themed dinner and show one evening; it was beautiful! All of the chefs did an amazing job! Generations Riviera Maya: Not as advertised
We stayed at Generations in November 2025. We were extremely disappointed with the accommodations, service and amenities. Caution to anyone booking; this property is not as advertised and is not a 5 star hotel, rather 3.5 star at best.
My wife and I have travelled extensively and stayed at many all inclusive resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribbean, including a previous stay at the El Dorado (adults only section) where we had a great 5 star experience so we were expecting more from Genera[... read more]tions. It seems that the family section is an afterthought compared to the adult side.
For the cost, Generations is not worthwhile. If you are looking for a real family friendly resort, consider something else.
Rooms - overall very outdated. Our first room was a regular ocean view suite and was dark, dingy and dirty upon check in. The couch that was supposed to be a pull out for our daughter was not a pull out and basically a sheet over top a nasty, stained sofa. We spoke to management and Fabiola was great at helping us find another room and kindly upgraded us to the largest suite available. While the decor was outdated and room a little rundown, it was clean, spacious, and significantly improved our experience.
Beach - Mexico is challenged with seaweed, no surprise to us. Most resorts do their best to manage this by cleaning the beachfront regularly so it’s still a usable space. The adult only section was completely clean while the generations side did not get cleaned for 3 days until I complained. Because we are travelling with a two year old, we were not permitted in the clean beach areas. Within 20 minutes of complaining there were 3 people raking up seaweed.
Service - staff are generally very friendly, polite and respectful. However considering this is a family resort, there should be a little more effort put into accommodating request especially when it comes to young children. We asked a few times for vegetables (eg steamed broccoli) or a simple piece of grilled fish for our daughter but there was no accommodating anything that wasn’t on the menu.
A simple example, my daughter asked for sprinkles for her pancakes. Knowing they had sprinkles from the ice cream bar the night before, I asked if they could bring some out and was told that was just not possible.
Another example; we ate at the Palms grill for lunch, we asked for a popsicle at the end for my daughter. We were told no because they closed at 3pm…it was 3:03 when I asked…ridiculous.
Maybe we are being particular but there are really small things that staff could be doing to make guests experience a little better.
Food - breakfast and lunch buffet, no complaints. Dinners at the buffet are mediocre at best. We eat pretty much everything but noticed very few vegetables in general and no fruit (except at breakfast). Unfortunately we were forced to eat at the buffet most nights (more on this below).
Evening taco station poolside was really good.
Other than the buffet. All restaurants are à la carte. There is no pool side food service or outdoor grille for an easy lunch. This made things challenging with a small kid as you need to dry off / change before getting food. You can also do room service which might have been a little easier in hindsight.
Restaurant Bookings - other than the buffet there are only 3 restaurants available to Generations guests (Indian, Asian, Wine Bar). You can eat on the adult side but you need to leave your kids behind. We had a very hard time getting a reservation at any of the 3 restaurants especially for an earlier seating (because of a young kid) as those times were often booked by guests on the adult side who have access to close to a dozen different restaurants.
Buffet is small with limited capacity. At peak times there were sometimes long waits, which becomes frustrating when you have so few dining options. Keep in mind the hotel was only about 40% capacity so I could only imagine the experience during a high-season.
Suggestion to the hotel: you should probably block off earlier seatings times to give priority to generations guests so they aren’t stuck at the buffet all the time. Or allow families to make reservations on the ElDorado side if even just certain nights of the week to still keep some exclusivity for those staying on the adult side.
Amenities - not a lot for kids to do at Generations itself (no splash pad or slides, no kids pool, limited activities and programming). There is a nice little indoor play area with activities and face painting (Wendy was super nice!).
One positive note, as a guest you do get some free access to the Nickelodeon water park. While our daughter (age 2) was a bit young to fully enjoy the park, the property is fantastic and I would definitely recommend a visit there whether you stay at Generations or not.
You also get all inclusive access to Maroma beach club. We did not get to take advantage of this, but it looks like it would be a fun day.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun: Great resort
Everything is wonderful - rooms, beach, sea. Service was great. Food is ok to good. Entertainment is good. Main things going for this hotel is beach, although pool area is amazing, as well. Hoping to go there again soon.
