Barcelo Maya Riviera: New hotel

The hotel opened two months ago. Everything is new, clean, contemporary design inside and out. Great service. As opposed to other Barcelo resorts here we did not have the stress to be in time for breakfast or lunch. When we were late at the buffet they gave us a la carte. The dinner is free at the restaurants. Strongly recommend the Japanese / best meal and the French / best service restaurants. You need water shoes as there are corals in the water and snorkeling equipment/ lots of fish near [... read more] the shore. On the minus side (most of them preventable) is that when we booked the room at the travel agency we asked for ocean front premium level. We did not get premium level, I should have checked as it was no mention of premium on the papers. Also the room was ocean view not ocean front. When we complained at the hotel they told us that they consider all the rooms ocean front which is not true. The travel from the airport to the hotel was included by Sunwing. Unfortunately they put the carrier on luggage together with the large luggages and it got broken. I should have taken it with me. When we came back from Mexico at the luggage pick up we realized that the zipper is open and a bag of cosmetics was stolen. This was my first vacation in Mexico. I will be better prepared next time as I will definitely be back.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Barcelo Caribe

Overall, my family and I really enjoyed this resort. Rooms were nice, fridge stocked daily with water, snacks and beer. We were located close to the buffet and Mayan mall so it was super convenient. So many pools including kids pools made it easy to find a chair. Water warmed up in the afternoon and there was both quiet pools and then those that had entertainment and activities. The beach is a little rocky but it didn’t bother us as we prefer the pools. We found the food mediocre compared to previous experiences at other Mexican resorts. That being said, we still enjoyed our meals and we really enjoyed the teppanyaki a la carte. We did enjoy all the activities on the resort including the arcade in the sports bar as well as the merry go round and skating in the mall. We ended up spending more money to do these things but it did keep our kids entertained. Loved the dolphin experience although was concerned by the lack of space in the pool. We didn’t see the night shows but there was something happening daily. Overall, it was good resort with lots to do for our family. We had a great time.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Vegas style resort

If you like the modern minimalist look this resort is for you. The rooms are outstanding, the food is very good with lots of choice and the service is excellent and friendly.For dinner the French and Mexican restaurants are the best. Swim shoes are a must as there are lots of exposed and broken coral in the water. Lots of fish so goggles and a snorkel would be a good thing to pack.

Occidental Caribe: Great vacation!

The hotel was beautiful! It had an amazing beach and pool. They had lots of entertainment including games , shows and music. The food at the resort was good and they made great drinks. I also enjoyed the variety of excursions that were offered. The only thing I could say that was disappointing about the resort was how often you were bothered on the beach or at the pool to buy things.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Bercelo Maya Colonial

This was our third time to this resort since 2014. We have found that since that time there seems to be less and less service after each subsequent visit. The towels in the rooms feel like sandpaper rather than the luxurious towels we had in 2014. They seem to hang on to the towels until they're ready to fall apart. After this recent experience, I doubt we will return for the fourth time. One good thing about the resort was that all the a la carte restaurants were very good.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Fantastic time

The hotel was very clean and well kept. by far the best sleep I have had on a vacation the mattress was very comfortable. Food at buffet was decent but the Ala carte food was amazing. Pools are very clean ocean is warm but bring ur aqua Sox’s lots of Coral

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Beautiful!!!!

Everything that you want or need is there!! Good or bad weather, everything has been planned for you to have a great time!! The food is grrrrrreat and always different everyday! You will enjoy long walk on the beach!!

Occidental Caribe: Sunny location Sandy beach

Beautiful location. Large Buffet with multiple choices. A La Carte restaurants were very good. Pools warm but music too loud and competed with swim up bar music. Ocean warm but waves with red and yellow flagging.Our room was comfortable but complex is needing repairs and updating. Children's pool was well used by guests. Quiet pool frequented by families. Evening lobby entertainment most nights too loud to enjoy or hear conversation. Missed the target audience age group. Theatre entertainment fa [... read more]cility has poor acoustics and sound level too high. Contract Water Aerobics instructor was fantastic. She does 6 weeks only at the resort tho.

Occidental Tucancun: So Much Fun!

This hotel excided all expectations. Was clean, friendly staff who were willing to go above and beyond. Would definitely recommend this resort. The pools were kept clean and the grounds were well manicured.

Occidental Cozumel: Big resort

The grounds were clean but lots of walking to everything. Service not so good . Friendly people . Night life there wasnt much . Food was ok samething everyday. Not much variety . The booze was not strong at all. I give it a 2 out of 10

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Amazing!

Second time at this hotel. We stayed at the palace the first time and the tropical this time. I liked the tropical better because it’s central! So much to do here! Loved the dolphins and the zip lining

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Absolutely perfect

This hotel is perfect. We were there with 5 children and they were never bored. There is so much to do at this resort you really don’t have to leave. We went zip lining and it was a great course! The staff are friendly and the food is terrific. Truly not one thing I can complain about!

Occidental Caribe: Best vacation in a long time!

We only had a week but our experience was fantastic. The room had cozy beds and great service. The grounds gave plenty of opportunity to explore. The nighttime entertainment in the lobby was superb. We saw only one show in the theater and found it okay. The service at all points was excellent. We ate at several Of the a la carte restaurants, which were beautifully decorated and professionally managed. Sosa in the casino was a fantastic host and we enjoyed the Texas Hold Um three nights. I  [... read more]almost won once. Darn river! Michael, Carlos, and Jose were on point for the whole week. I have already recommended this resort to many of my friends.

Occidental Cozumel: good resort - fun but not amazing

grounds and public areas were clean -- food was good but not a lot of variety in the buffets -- rooms were very roomy but always felt damp -- cleaning staff was excellent lots of this to do at the resort and away from the resort we felt comfortable

Barcelo Solymar: Good resort, great service, and excellent location!

When you stay at Barcelo Solymar you actually get access to 3 connected resorts. The grounds for all 3 are absolutely beautiful. The beach the resort borders is perfect and was one of the least busy that we've seen on the Veradero strip. You can take your time after eating breakfast and still manage to get a spot under a cabana. There are several nice pools on the resort and all the poolside bars are comfortably out of the water. The resort is just within walking distance of downtown Veradero but far enough away that there aren't any of the negative aspects. The food wasn't the best but I've been told you don't go to Cuba for the food. The rooms are clean and adequate enough as I imagine most guests won't spend much time in their rooms. One thing to note is that there weren't many other Canadian tourists at this particular resort in our experience. Lots of guests from Spain, Italy, France, and Russia. We've definitely met our share of rude guests and a lot of littering. Some tourists would throw their plastic cups on the ground when garbage cans were easily in reach. Lots of tourists would smoke cigarettes on the beach and litter it with their butts.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Beautiful Resort...but some things to consider before booking...

Beautiful resort, grounds were impeccable, terrific amenities, children’s attractions, and a la cartes. Resort is VERY large...difficult to move around with small children or ppl with mobility issues.

Barcelo Solymar: First Trip out of Canada

My experience at Barcelo Solymar was beyond words. The night colors and friendly staff were so welcoming and made my stay feel safe and happy. I will definently be back again! There was always so much to do, especially with downtown just a fee feet away from the hotel. A must stay place for your vacation!! Highly recommended :)

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Amazing resort

This was the cleanest resort I’ve ever been to! Every night they tore apart the restaurants and cleaned EVERYTHING! They were constantly cleaning floors everywhere and the place just sparkled. The staff was all very friendly and although they could have used an extra bartender at every bar we visited, the service was friendly and fast enough to keep us happy. They do not cater to large groups (we were 10). They would tell us that they could not accommodate us all, and then when we split up and went at our given time we would find many tables empty so that they could have definitely fit us all in. That was the only frustration of the trip. The buffet was great for buffet food.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Fabulous vacay!

A meticulous resort with friendly and courteous staff, always willing to help. The golf course was in excellent shape and the weather complimented every day we played. A good selection of restaurants and good variety of foods at the buffet. Recommended vacation resort for all ages!

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Nice Accommodations

Overall the hotel was good. The rooms were nice and clean and the food was great. The service at the bars was pretty slow but there was 7 weddings during the week. The only other thing to remember to take would be a pair of water shoes for the ocean as there is lots of coral patch’s which will do a number on your feet. Great place to go for family’s with small kids and teens.
