This was my 14th stay at the Melia Las Dunas Resort. I regret to say that I was extremely disappointed this visit.
The each was the highlight as usual, however, the hotel has become very run down. My girlfriend had to change her rooms 2 times. The first water was coming in through the light fixture on the ceiling from heavy rain then the second room the AC as not functioning. The housekeeping was excellent in our rooms but there was graffiti on the front of our building from local guests that[... read more] were staying on the resort which brings me to the point of a broader complaint. There were only a handful of Canadian guests and another handful of international guests leaving the rest to other Cubans travelling from other parts of the country. Don't get me wrong, I love the Cuban culture and people I have met over the years and is the reason for my return multiple times. The majority of the guests were rude and quite disrespectful to the resort leaving their garbage everywhere on the beach and around the pool. Let's talk about the pool next. I was disgusted for the first time with the pool. After the rainfall, I visited the pool and noticed debris floating at the bottom thinking it was twigs from the trees but everywhere in the pool was loose black grout. This was there the entire stay! I can't imagine the bacteria festering in that once beautiful pool. I understand low season forces the hotel to close one side, leaving only the family side open but children in the pool with diapers also in unacceptable.
The staff was as usual very kind and polite and have always maintained a professional repour.
I am sad to say that will be my last visit to this resort but not my last to Cuba,

I found the hotel very well equipped and comfortable. The air-conditioning did not work
Power went out every day at least three to four times per day
The food was good, and the hotel staff are doing a very good job post covid with cleaning and at the buffet.

Melia Internacional: We had a perfect time!
The hotel, room and staff was amazing! The food was not bad at all as people say it would be. We actually did not mind it at all. There is something for everyone, plenty of options and cooked and tasted very good. Please try to keep in mind the country is having a very hard time especially after the pandemic and supplies coming in. Try to be a bit more understanding and patient. They are doing the very best they can. All of the staff at the hotel were incredible! Very attentive. The room wa[... read more]s always very clean and perfect.
The a la carte restaurant were great as well. The beach was the best part of the entire trip! You cannot beat the water and sand! It was spectacular!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Amazing Resort
The hotel lobby and restaurants were absolutely beautiful and very well maintained, as was the landscaping.. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with a freshen up.. It was exceptionally clean and pest free! (A huge worry for me). The food was delicious, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like.. The buffet and al a cart restaurants had great selections.. The staff were amazing, so friendly and accommodating. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.

Paradisus Varadero: Nice resort
Everything was ok with some minor issues.
Internet service was horrible but thats everywhere in Cuba. Buffet was repetative and sometimes they didnt have wine or soft drinks. Our room had an adjoining room so we heard everything that was going on in the room next to ours which was really annoying.

Paradisus Varadero: Great Resort
We stayed at Paradisus for 7days and it was a fabulous trip for my son and myself. There was hardly any mosquitos as mentioned from previous travellers. The food was very good and the deserts were great. Instead of 200 Choices of food like in Mexico, you had 100 which was more than enough to enjoy. I recommend the Japanese restaurant, which was great and entertaining. The beach and water was perfect, no weeds and very clean. All the staff worked hard and the rooms in the reserve section were cle[... read more]an and spacious. Hi hit recommend this hotel if going to Varadero.

Great place to relax and very clean. You can eat at all the restaurants anytime and a-La-cart is unlimited. Pool is cleaner if you plan on travel in summer. With the shortage through out the world don’t except 100% after Covid. Everyone has to catch up!

Melia Cayo Coco: Highly Recommend!
My girlfriend and I have both been to Cuba multiple times before, but we would highly recommend Cayo Coco and this resort to anyone thinking of taking the trip.
The beach was beautiful, white sand and tons of shade and chairs for everyone. It was fairly windy on the beach, but it was very hot during our one week stay so we welcomed the wind to keep us cool. The beach water was warm, but very refreshing as well. There was beach entertainment in the morning (bocce, volleyball, dancing lesson[... read more]s etc.) to keep us busy, then the entertainment moved to the pool in the afternoon which allowed for some time to relax. They had kayaks and paddle boats you can rent out as well. On one of our last days a resort worker offered to take us out snorkeling at a reef about 100 meters off the shore which was definitely a highlight of our trip.
The service was great plus the staff were all incredibly friendly and could speak English. The bartenders, waiters/waitresses, entertainers, and front desk staff were always willing to help and are very friendly.
The food was very good for a Cuban resort, especially in this post covid period. It is missing some of the brand names products we would normally get from the U.S. (ketchup etc.), but it did not make a big difference to us. We had heard from travelers to other resorts that there were shortages of foods and alcohol to many of the resorts in Cuba, but Melia Cayo Coco seemed to have no shortages at all. A variety of freshly cooked food at the buffet and fancier meals at the al a cartes kept us more than satisfied.
Our room was decent, but definitely not a highlight of the trip. We got the base level room and while it was nothing special, there were no major issues other than an air conditioning leak on our first day (which was fixed within 15 minutes of us reporting it to the front desk and the issue never happened again).
The resort itself was small which makes getting around everywhere a lot faster. There was evening entertainment which included dance shows and some excellent live music which was always a nice way to end the night.
Overall I would highly recommend this resort, especially to those looking for something smaller and quieter designed for relaxation. However, if you are looking for a resort with a younger crowd and a lot of partying, this may not be the best resort for you.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Nice resort but wouldn't call it 5 star
Resort is large with clean grounds, pool and rooms. Beach was nice although small. Snorkling right from shore viewing nice coral and rock formation with various fish. Resort had very few guests so no issues finding shade at the beach or pool. 21hrs of wifi given which seemed to work almost everywhere. Farthest point on the beach, wifi didn't work. Spa was very nice and good value. Able to enjoy facility entire day including sauna, salt water pool, whirlpool and small beach belonging to the ro[... read more]yal service side.
No resort map given at check in. Had to wait a while for bell boy to drive us to our rooms, mean while we could have easily walked to our rooms as it was close to the lobby. No list of drinks at any of the 4 bars. I'm not a big alcoholic drinker so wouldn't know what to order or try. Evening shows was small and disappointed. They didn't even use the large stage(may be covid related or due to very few guests). Food was limited and very repetitive (may be due to covid and world wide shortages). Repeat guests said this is not normal. Cable TV has many Spanish stations with few English speaking, if it's working as it went dead several times. Water leaked from bathroom ceiling in last 2 days from AC unit.

Melia Buenavista: Very good place to stay and relax
My wife and I stayed in Melia Buenavista resort May 17 to May 24 2022.
Overall, we have enjoyed our staying a lot and would rate the resort with 4 stars.
Here are the things we liked:
Small size and quiet environment.
This is an adult only resort and it’s quite small and boutique-style – there’s about 102 units, so even when it’s at full capacity, there’s only sightly over 200 guests at the resort. This ensures a quiet and relaxed environment, no large noisy crowds, no[... read more] line-ups for food, no competition for beach chairs – there’s always plenty of them available on the beach.
Boutique style residences.
Some of the accommodations at he resort are duplex-style villas, that’s where we stayed. The room is spacious, with two terrace at each end, outdoor and indoor showers, bathtub, separate closet area, large sitting area, fridge, coffee makers – very nice amenities.
3 Beaches.
The resort has three beaches, which is an awesome feature. It allows already small number of people to spread out and have a good rest. The three beaches are different: one is fairly shallow, you mainly walk you knees or waist into the water, it’s good for sitting in the water, having drinks and watching sunsets. The resort has gazebos in the water at that beach, which shelter you from direct sun and nearby bar keeps drinks coming. The second beach is a snorkeling place – it gets deep pretty close to the shore, so you can snorkel right off the shore without travelling anywhere, which is very convenient. There’s plenty of fish/corals to see in the water to keep you occupied for hours, we really enjoyed this one. The third one is the main beach, real gem – the iconic white sand/blue ocean beach Cuba is famous for! It’s quite long, clean, has a bar and lots of beach lounging chairs, umbrellas and gazeboes. At the far end area, to keep it discreet, people go topless or nude.
Entertainment.
There’s entertainment during the day – dance or aqua aerobics class for the active folks in the main pool, that’s a lot of fun! Also, there’s some entertainment in the evenings, no big shows, but a band usually plays and sings, it’s really nice to sit around and enjoy it.
Personnel.
Very helpful people at the reception and with fluent English. Best ever bar folks.
All resort people were very nice and friendly. They always greet you and help you get around/answer your questions. Specifically, guests are assigned a couple of butlers who see to your needs and do some chores for you. That is an awesome service – if you want to order food/drinks to your room or have an excursion booked or anything else – you don’t need to go to the reception, you talk to your butler – and things get done quickly and efficiently. Our butlers were Armando and Joan, both awesome, super-friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and always there to help you! Thank you, Armando and Joan, for making our stay at this resort so enjoyable and we hope to see you again!
Things that need improvement
We think that most things which need improvement are the result of the pandemic and 2 year shut down of Cuban resorts. It takes time to get the resort back to its best, it’s understandable. This resort has opened up a few months ago (around December of 2021), so we’ve seen an ongoing effort from the resort people to identify and fix all the issues.
Facilities.
Need maintenance/some repairs.
Although the living quarters are bright and spacious and have all necessities in them, a number of things needs maintenance and fine-tuning after 2 years of all Cuban resorts been shut down due to pandemic. Specifically, water pressure was low at times. For a couple of days the resort had to shut the water down completely for a few hours – for maintenance and repairs. The resort is working continuously to identify and fix these issues and personnel was very accommodating and courteous during repair times, provided guests with information and access to alternate sources of water. Also, some small updates may be needed to wall paint, chairs or other small things, but overall everything’s in a good shape or getting there, just a bit rusty/dusty after a long shut-down.
Beaches
Need maintenance.
They are the best we’ve seen in and outside Cuba! But, again, due to long shut down some things are waiting to be fixed. Specifically, in-water gazebos at the shallow beach used to have hammocks in them (the resort still has a picture of them on their website 😊), but no hammocks when we were there, so would be good to get them back! Also, one of the gazeboes was broken and laying as a sad pile of wood on the beach. The resort may also consider adding water sports/equipment to their services.
Food and drinks.
Needs better variety.
Again, due to pandemic, food supply is under pressure in Cuba in general and this resort. Main thing: there’s plenty of food available for each and every guest, so no need to worry! The variety is limited, but decent to provide for all food groups: basic veggies (lettuce, cucumbers, bell peppers, zucchinis. There is fruit: bananas, mangoes, some others. There’s rice and pasta. Some variety of dishes at the a la carte restaurants, but not a big variety. Meet supply, specifically pork, is under pressure, so pork is not often on the menu, but there’s beef, chicken and their very best – white fish!
Drinks – need to increase variety. Some are missing due to supply issues, specifically, there’s no tonic, so you get your gin-and-sprite cocktail instead. Some hard alcohol is missing, like cognacs. But there’s plenty of Spanish bubbly and white/red wine, as well as beer to keep everyone happy.
So, overall – a very decent resort, worth the money, we plan to go there again. Pleasant personnel, tranquil rest, best beaches. If you are sympathetic to their ongoing efforts to overcome hard times and make things better, then you can put up with some occasional small inconveniences and have a really good time there!

Sol Palmeras: Good resort, pathetic food!
Amazing beaches and the property is well maintained. They have switched off the A/C in the lobby on purpose as that's where most people hang out for wifi and the 24-hoir bar. It becomes super hot & unbearable after a point. Also, give the economic situation of the country, the food is extremely repetitive and especially for vegetarians or vegans, it is Extremely difficult. They would accomodate the guests and state that there are only 2 vegetarians of the 1000 guests in the resort, which I don't[... read more] feel is a good enough excuse to not support your guests. Paradisus Rio De Oro: Great beach
Great grounds, beach, coral reef not what it used to be, much less fish.Service very slow in Royal side, takes 1 to 2 hours each meal, plus meals almost never what you ordered (with or without tips), plus some restaurants serve fish that is so dry, that with each bite you have to drink a lot of water. Buffet is great, less selection than before, only dinner is not every night like before. Food tastes far better than in Royal service. Only advantage of Royal Service is outdoor shower and access[... read more] to that beach, but most days was overcrowded, literally overcrowded by locals, which is fine, but if you want quiet, think twice before paying extra

Melia Cayo Coco: Always a great place anytime of the year
Once again the Melia Cayo Coco met all of our needs from a great beach and very nice clean room, good food, and wonderful entertainment. The grounds are impeccably kept by some of the best groundskeepers. All of the staff from attendants to management are very approachable with any questions or comments which are taken seriously and acted upon quickly. The resort is geared to a more quiet and laid back crowd, come and enjoy the tranquility of this smaller resort.

Melia Cayo Coco: Excellent service, great vacation
MCC never disappoints. The most important asset are the staff. They go out of their way to ensure you have all you need. The grounds are meticulously kept. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The beach is beautiful and clean. We did find the food repetitive and not the selection we have seen in the past when staying here. However, given the current situation I’m Cuba it is understandable. We made the best of it.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
