Valentin Perla Blanca: Rundown Resort

Very disappointed in how it has been neglected in maintenance. Doors don't lock properly, toilets that don't flush, not enough bath towels to be changed every day, no change of beach towels, toilets around the pools and lobby are very dirty, no toilets around beach area at all considering this is a huge resort toilets are to be found only around pools or lobby. The food well this is not my first time in Cuba or Cayo Santa Maria, therefore I don't have high expectations in regards to the food  [... read more]but this was beyond Cuba' reputation for the food. Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Vitamin B Renewal!

We just got back from Cuba, the Dhawa Resort in Santa Maria Cuba. The weather was perfect except for a bit too much wind. Sun every day, Vitamin B has been topped up. The resort is a bit isolated from the real Cuba which for me is a bit of a negative. The only other negative was a shortage of drinking glasses, I suggest you bring your own insulated cup. The room was large and spotless with a nice shower to get all that sand off. Speaking of sand, the beach was beautiful. Lots of shade “houses” never had to fight for one. You could take a kayak out, a paddle boat or a sail boat (escorted) all for free. No line ups either. The pool is enormous, a bit cold, lots of seating and again so clean. More shade there would be nice. Some of best staff were in the pool bar, hi ladies and gents who work there. Now to food! I have traveled world wide but this was my first time to Cuba. I was nervous about the food. It wasn’t fantastic but I have eaten much worse. There was always something to please most The fish was amazing, fresh fruit, good pizza, lots of fruit and a decent selection of meat. Entertainment is such a personal thing, I was not keen on what was there but others were definitely enjoying it. Last comment. I already spoke of the small issues. The big issue for me was the cigarette smoke, by the pool and in the best entertainment facility. Security really needs to clamp down on those inconsiderate people who smoke outside designated areas. The administration needs to assign a designated area at the pool and they need to stop smoking in the lobby music area. I can’t believe so many people still smoke. And finally to the cleaning staff, gardeners and dining staff. They were all wonderful, the whole resort is spotless. Our room staff were amazing. Thanks! The resort is 1.5 hours away from the airport but the bus was new, the driver and guide were funny so time flew by. Don't let the drive deter you. That is it!

Valentin Perla Blanca: 2nd Visit! Can’t wait for the 3rd!!

This is my second time at this resort and I love it!! A la carte restaurants are wonderful! The Staff are wonderful always attentive and wanting to make your stay memorable! Pools are lovely and the beaches leave me speechless! The only downside is lack of pool towel exchange, though it’s easily solved by hanging up your towel!! Seriously cannot wait for next year! Thank you again for your warm hospitality!

Paradisus Los Cayos: A Wonderful Vacation At A Beautiful Resort

Paradisus Los Cayos is an absolutely beautiful resort that was laid out in a very customer friendly manner: The rooms are attractively designed, with a bathtub in the middle of the floor. And no mold, no unsightly wear. Hey the resort is only a year old! And our residence had easy access to the buffet restaurant and to the main office and lounge. And the host staff were friendly, smiling, helpful Cubans with wonderful service. And we enjoyed the food, the evening shows, the special dinners, the massages, the bars, the special couches where we would spend half the day reading, the gym. An absolutely wonderful 9 day holiday it was! With one small but important caveat. A few days into our stay we discovered a few things missing, a couple of gym shorts, then a hat, a pair of scissors. We were not too disturbed as we felt that if someone needed them, they were welcomed to them. But when a pair of Nike gym shoes went missing, we reported the matter to the resort service department. This was our 19th trip to Cuba and never had we encountered an incident of petty thief. But now we lock up all small valuables.

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria

The room was very clean. The food at the buffet was cold. The service was good, but sometimes slow. The hotel ran out of plastic cups at the pool bar. I'm sure they were just reusing the dirty plastic cups. We were told to wait two minutes until they could get more cups. We saw a staff member picking plastic cups out of the garbage bins and putting them in a black plastic bag just after we were told they had no more plastic cups.

Grand Memories Santa Maria: One thing after another

We arrived at the resort Jan 31/20. Check in was quick and bell boy promptly brought us to our room. We were starving and didn't have much time to get dinner.. We left our luggage on the beds and headed to the buffet. We might have been gone for 1.5 hrs. When we returned and started to unpack we noticed 350 dollars was missing from our suit case where wallet was kept.. The bell boy was the only person that seen the wallet in the suitcase while he waited for his tip.. The following morning I spoke to Andy from customer relations and also sunwing rep onsite.. Told them about the missing money from our room and I was asked if I wanted them to call the police which could take days if not weeks for them to investigate or let the hotel do their own investigation... We were fine with the hotel checking things out as they seems quite concerned. The resort requested a report on our door to see how many times a card was swiped as we had just went to eat and right back.. A card was swiped 3 times but only twice from us... :( Every morning I would talk to Andy and ask him if there were any updates... Never was. Then on Thursday (day before we were vimjnv back home) he told us there was nothing to update us with as we didn't want the police called.. WOW!!! He more or less made us feel like it would be a waste of time, that's why we didn't. He asked us if the bell boy showed us the safe and explained his it worked, he didn't.. On the Saturday my friend took 100 dollars out of the bank in the resort on her debit card.. On Monday the bank took it out again!! Confronted the teller and Sunwing rep and was told it happens and you should get a refund in a few weeks... Excuse me but this is theft.. Sunwing should be telling travelers this happens often in Cuba, as we were told. We had a dinner booked at the Italian restaurant and just after we ordered we saw a cockroach on the wall... Our meal was brought quite quickly and just when we began to eat another cockroach scurried across the table. That was enough to turn off all of our appetites. Another evening in the buffet we saw more cock roaches near the hot plates... I actually let a gentleman in a suit working at the buffet know... He was aware of bugs and said they have been having a problem lately with cock roaches and haven't been able to spray inside the buffet.. I really felt bad planning this girls trip to a resort in Cuba I personally recommended... From the time we got there till we left it was an incident after an incident. 2 of the girls swear they will never go back to Cuba... I go there twice a year and Mexico twice a year... I enjoy Cuba as usually I feel safe and the people are wonderful.. I'm seriously reconsidering my travel choices.

Roc Lagunas del Mar: Great Resort

This resort has been recently renovated. We were in building 9. Had a pool view and also if you stepped out on the balcony you could see the ocean also. We ate mainly at the snack bar. Pizza was so so so good. So was the Club Breakfast sandwhich. We stuck to the pasta at the Main buffet. Which was really good. Breakfast I had Crepe's with my own Maple Syrup... If you are not a smoker this is not enjoyable. It was hard to sit there during the evening entertainment. That is my review.

Grand Memories Santa Maria: A no no resort

Rooms: outdated, dirty and dusty walls, smelly bathroom, no new sheets for 10 days, we never received the crib for our baby, TV wasn't working. Buffet: Cockroaches all around. Even though meals were tastier than other resorts we 've been, they offered the same lunch and dinner during our stay. Many people got sick. They try hard though. Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Decent resort, incredible beach area

It's an average Cuban hotel, with average food, the snack bar isn't as good as we were hoping. The staff is awesome, they definitely made our time enjoyable there. The entertainment crew could be a lot better, they weren't as engaging as we were used to in the past at different resorts.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Very nice place at the end of the cayo

This was our fourth time in this resort so just that speaks for itself. Last year we had some not so good experience and this year the management upgraded our room as a surprise, which was very nice and appreciated gesture. We also purchased the privilege package for the first time. We ended up eating and drinking in the non-privilege restaurants and bars anyway probably because we already new the people there. What was probably the most disappointing experience was the bottle of rum that was su [... read more]pposed to be a part of the welcome package. It has arrived on the third day and it was the cheapest white rum in the resort. I tried to explain to the ‘concierge’ person that I don’t drink that stuff and tried to exchange it for something worth bringing back home, but no success there. I think that if a guest spends couple hundred bucks on better package, trying to save couple CUCs on a bottle of rum by the management is simply not a good management decision. Will I go there again? Probably yes, because it is a good kiteboarding spot. Would I buy the privilege package again? Never.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Get what you pay for

Overall this resort was ok in terms of the service provided and the cleanliness of the resort. The people were amazing, especially at the pool bar and beaches. The resort isn’t directly on the beach, there is about a 3-5 minute walk from the pool to the beach. The area in between wasn’t that clean or up-kept very well. It was very hard to obtain clean beach towels as the hut was barely open or there was no one working. The food wasn’t the best, but that’s Cuba! Grand Memories Santa Maria: Amazon resort

The food was so good for Cuba! Fresh meat grill and rice stations. Beach was a 10! Rooms were clean and comfortable. Beer and pop and water restocked daily. The grounds were beautiful! The drive there was great. 90 mins of driving through little Cubans towns. We will go back again Foresure.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful resort, beach and people!

We stayed at this resort January 31- February 7. We were greeted by our butler with our envelope for our room. Although I requested a second floor, we were given a first floor in Bungalow 5. It was a central location with accessibility to the lower pool, the Sunset restaurant for breakfast and lunch and path to the beach. The room, however was in need of repair and the pillows and bedcovers were dirty. We requested a room on a second floor and were upgraded to an ocean front room. Beautiful room, but the A.C. did not work and the shower head leaked. Both were fixed in 1-2 days. We were in Bungalow 6. Our butler, Diago was wonderful and was very attentive and went over and above with extras for us! Food was o.k. There are 3 restaurants and received our reservations on the first day from our butler. We enjoyed the Eggscellence restaurant for supper, breakfast was just o.k., preferred The Sunset, better coffee and ordered from the menu and was close by to our bungalow. Senses was the other restaurant for dinner. Be aware of the lobster, heavy and could cause upset stomachs, whereas the surf and turf dinner at The Sunset was wonderful! The grill by the beach is great for lunch. A server will bring you a quesadilla of your choice, chicken, shrimp or beef. Yummy! The drinks are good. We received a bottle of wine from our butler and it was nice to have in the room for a drink before dinner or to take with us to the lobby. The house wine, white, a Pino Grigio and the red are quite nice. The public washrooms are very clean and the ladies who look after them are always smiling and singing! The entertainment is enjoyable and varied. Wonderful dancing, singing and instrumental music. We even heard a trio who played for President Obama! The people who work at this resort are the real plus for this resort. They are so kind and accommodating and we can understand why so people return year after year. The beach and the water are also major pluses. WOW!!! Absolutely amazing! It is recommended to go down early, 8 or 8:30 a.m. to get beach chairs under a palapa. Leave your beach towels, that are in your room upon arrival and maybe a book or sunscreen, The beach attendant will get you the chairs, brush them off and just give him a one CUC. Go for breakfast and you are good for the day! The beds by the pool look nice, but are not all that comfortable. The upper pool by the lobby is the quiet pool, and the lower pool is where all the action is! Fashion shows, water aquatics and dance lessons. Oh, yes, the bank is right next door in the plaza, open Monday to Friday. We got 38 CUCS for $50 CA. We tipped with $5 CA upon arrival until we got to the bank on Monday. The flight was great there and back from Hamilton. The bus ride was 90 minutes and with cold Cuban beer and a wonderful guide, we were there in no time! A wonderful week with many adventures and friendships to last a lifetime!

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Got what you paid for.

Overall, this resort was what I expected for the price in Cuba. Most staff was nice, however very lazy when asked any questions/for something. Shoutout to the pool bar staff and cleaning staff, they were great. The beach was beautiful, however most beach chairs were broken. The rooms were great- clean every day, well air conditioned, very nice. Biggest complaint would be the food. My entire group of 8 were sick almost the entire week. Would not return to this resort, but would return to Cuba.

Best part of my trip was catching a giant fish during one of the excursions. Staff were amazing and funny but good luck trying to change your beach towel. Food was awful unless you get it made for you at the grills. Slept terrible on paper thin pillows

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Get what you payed for

During our 7 day stay our Rooms were spacious and kept clean. The housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. The bar staff and waiters were incredibly friendly and made you feel at home. They became your family by the end of your stay! Beach and pools were beautiful. However for a 4 year old resort it was almost impossible to get clean beach towels as no one was ever working at the stand. Many of the women’s bathroom doors wouldn’t lock. Food was bellow average throughout our stay.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Amazing resort!!!

I give this place 10 stars!!! The staff were all wonderful. Despite all that is said about the Cuban food, I also rate the food a 10!!! This was my ninth visit to this resort and plan on boing back in April with a different group of friends. Until we meet again...carrie

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Amazing Beach!

The resort it self is huge with 3 different sections and about 3k long. You have the Villa section, Family and Adults only areas. I stayed in the Adult only section and the room was a very good size. The food is what you expect for Cuba but plenty of choice. The beach is white sand and clear waters. Great for snorkeling and finding different species of fish. There is also a sunken barge to explore. Staff are friendly and polite, always going the extra mile. Memories Paraiso: Ended at the clinic, I got bitten by bugs in my bed

Its so sad the this resort boast such gorgeous beaches. However it seems that the staff has checked out or are too exhausted such as the 24 hr pizza joint which has 1 person manning the pizza bar for 24 hrs. Its a real shame that they have inexperienced cooks because although they had lovely seafood for grilling, they didn't know how to grill the food n everything would end up tasting the same, burnt( the burnt food would crust and then they'd add oil or water to make it steam) Check for bed b [... read more]ugs and check your pillows, mine smelled like vomit and when I complaint, they said they were new. Swimming pool ran out of alcohol at a foam party. At 1 point ppl stopped specifying n saying just give me whatever you got to the bartenders. Do not buy the poutine at the Pueblo or market place outside the resort they will charge $5. Cucc about 7 canadian dollars for 12 mcain fries n a bit of gravy n grated cheese. I could go on, but I won't. I am never going back to Cuba, too bad, because I loved the beach. On day 5 I was ready to come home and when I landed I was so grateful, I've never been so happy to come back home from a vacation. True story.

Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: Rest and Relaxation

The Angsana, Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba ... where white sand is scattered with rocky cropped beaches or chill pool side with a good book. Serene and peaceful describe this low key, adults only...it is predominantly a 55+ demographic that prefer and respect their peace and tranquility!
