Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort: A pretty perfect vacation
Lopesan Bavaro is a stunning, clean, modern resort, with incredibly polite, friendly, and helpful staff (no, they don't all speak English, but we always figured it out), a gorgeous beach, more pools than you can ever swim in, and very decent food. I had read reviews about warm rooms and fridges (our air conditioning was perfect throughout our 14-day stay – almost too cold!), humidity (none), smell (none to faint in less air-conditioned areas), and food poisoning (never). There were always chai[... read more]ses available by the smaller pools even at 9:30-10:00 a.m. during our January stay, and the noise level is by no means party-all-the-time, which suited us fine. This resort has a lot of activities, but it's not jam-packed with them; it's more of a relaxed vibe. Evening entertainment is just below cruise level but the effort and passion are there, and the costumes and lighting are great. We enjoyed morning walks on the beautiful beach after a fantastic buffet breakfast, where the selection is vast. Restaurants were I'd say a 7/10 (pretty good for a resort feeding thousands of people), with some dishes being amazing (e.g., the octopus at El Asador; the pizzas and spaghetti bolognese at Gondola). The meat is thin and can be tough (not always), but they know a thing or ten about stews and slow cooking (the caramelized plantains at breakfast are already sorely missed). We were always greeted with an "Olla" and a smile by the staff wherever we went, for all 14 days. Managed to catch our NFL football games in the Valley Restaurant and made a few friends. Just an absolutely lovely time and I can't say enough about how great this resort is. It's large enough to be continually interesting, but not so vast that you can't get around without a tram. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Zel Punta Cana - All Suites: Great Stay for soft opening of Hotel!
We just got back from a week’s stay, it was nice and we felt very safe at this resort. Service was great! Food was amazing at the Volcan and Nokio restaurants… Although Tacorini was a major letdown. If you have the chance do the show at the Nokio restaurant!
Buffet was average, they need to do some work on the buffets but there was always something to find. Definitely need to work more on temperature control for the buffet. Found the breakfast better than the lunch in my opinion but the om[... read more]elette guy was great!
Bar staff and wait stuff was amazing! Never had to tell them what we wanted, they knew when they saw us with our Yeti cups. A special shoot out to Frailin who went above and beyond everyday to stop and check on us and see if we needed anything. We were also given a free 5 hour late checkout which was nice as our flight didn’t leave till close till 10:30PM.
We did notice that ceiling fans and a couple of the wicker styled lights didn’t work in our suite, but with the AC we didn’t really need it but just something we noticed. I’m thinking it’s an oversight where they rushed to get the rooms opened and someone didn’t check the electrician’s work. And the lights didn’t make much difference cause they were just accent lights…
Loved the music they played all day up until 9:00 when they switched to the daily live music. They should look into having a dance floor or something similar.
All in all, we’d come back again. They were working daily to improve with meetings as they had just reopened from renovating and rebranding a few weeks before we had arrived.

Caribe Deluxe Princess: My Honest Review
This is an honest review, but ultimately it is from my perspective.
First, the hotel: Room: Well-thought out room lay-outs. Comfy bedding, black-out curtains. We love the key bracelets! Efficient, quiet air-conditioner. Plenty of storage space. Wonderful hot showers with great water pressure. Double sinks, although one didn’t drain properly leading to a yucky mess. Reported 3 times to no avail.
We had a ground floor room in Block A, walk out to patio, flush with ground. Those that have a step [... read more]down have perspex barriers.
We did lose power a few times in the early morning which was a problem for me because I use a CPAP machine. Our friends next door ‘blew up’ one hairdryer and another shorted both our rooms. Other times, power failed within seconds of my partner leaving the room. Coincidence I’m told.
The grounds are fabulous. Workers are constantly clearing, cutting, pruning and maintaining the grounds. Walk the path from lobby to rooms… a slice of tranquility. Love the wild life.
Dining: Buffet: Lots of choice and variety each night. Surprising buffet dishes included lagostina, smoked crab legs (huge) and duck.
A la Carte: We only did 2, but did the Teppanyaki in Tao twice because it was so good. Servers and chef here were excellent. However, the Italian La Tagliata was very disappointing. The seafood risotto only had shrimp. When I asked where the muscles, calamari and white fish were, I was told there was none. I wish I had been told this when I ordered. What I had was excellent, and the tiramisu dessert was delicious. Two of my friends had the pasta. Different content in each: one had shrimp, one didn’t, one had white-fish and calamari (remember there wasn’t any in the risotto) and the other didn’t. I hear the lasagna is excellent from others who ate there. We also felt rushed here. We were in and out in 50 minutes. Not what you expect from an a la carte, but does show how efficient they can be!
Best food of the week: the fried chicken at the Beach House! A daily staple.
The Beach: The highlight! Powder white sand, long for walking. Three little shops close by for souvenirs. We reserved our spot early to ensure shade. For 2 days, jumping the waves was fun, but not a sea for swimming in. Nice sandy entry. Some days the waves were knocking grown men over! Great for fun, but not swimming. No sargassum at beginning of holiday, but as wind picked up, sea got rougher and some came in.
The 3 pool areas: Disclosure, we didn’t go in any. First, the ‘fun’ pool. Swim-up bar. Aerobics daily at 3. May have been other activities. Music playing. Foam party once a week.
Second, the quieter pool. Had the most sun.
Third, the kids pool with a great looking play area with slide etc. Beware here… we met a lady who missed a step-down by the bar, fell and broke her shoulder. Apparently, many people have taken a tumble here, and for some reason the hotel will not put any warning signs or mark the step. (Something to do with admitting there’s an issue and therefore liability, I’m told.)
Entertainment: Out of 10 nights, we only had music at the outside bar once… our last night. Solo guy (playing guitar and playing back tracks) sang covers and was excellent. Would have loved to see him more. I hear most entertainment was up at the lobby theatre, which is a hike in the evening. The trolleys running between lobby and rest of resort are fabulous though running frequently during the day and evening.
Finally the big downer of the week: the service. Everywhere. We constantly had to go in search of towels or a hand towel or a bath mat. Face cloths were hit or miss. Once our room didn’t get made up at all, but we missed breakfast that day so probably our fault despite letting them know. I’m sure I wasn’t the first person to complain about the blocked sink, but after 3 days, I realized it was a waste of time. After the first power failure in Block A, it took a couple of hours for someone to come to reset the tripped fuse.
In the buffet area, Ana, Christian and Morales were pleasant and personable, but the majority didn’t seem happy or smile. At breakfast, even if it wasn’t busy, we always had to wait for the coffee person and if the table wasn’t laid when we were seated, it still wasn’t laid when we got back. It’s almost as if there was a reluctance to provide good service, which IMHO may be an in your-face for the supervisor’s constantly watching them. It doesn’t take a lot to make guests feel welcome: a smile, a hello. Maybe some attitude training?
Summary: We were a group of 4 and had a great time. Were we to go back to Punta Cana, we would go here. It wasn’t a massive resort, and the beach didn’t feel over-crowded, maybe due to the vacant lot beside it. However, as fabulous as the beach was, I personally like sea I can swim in.

Ocean El Faro: Ocean el faro overview
The lobby is absolutely gorgeous. The bar tenders there are knowledgeable. The rooms were spacious, clean, up to date. Absolutely loved the swinging hammock, though not all rooms came with them. Buffet had lots of good variety and mixed it up every night. Baked goods were awesome. No shortage of bacon. Though sometimes finding a clean table and cutlery was difficult if you didn't arrive within the first hour. The a la cartes were awesome. The beach front was rough but to the left is a calm natur[... read more]al lagoon. We stayed mostly at the lazy river. We brought our own tube and pump system. The bar tenders there were friendly and conversational. A drink menu would have been cool to have. Some annoying sellers who stayed close to the lobby were on us daily. Over all we would go back!
We have been to BP Ambar Bouganville Esmeralda and Aquamarine 7 different times. We wrote them asking for a certain room and to say it was our anniversary trip and got nothing while many people did.
The resort is getting old and tired.
Entertainment is good.
At the buffet it was hard to find a clean table and for some reason never had teaspoons, had to ask. Food was ok not like it used to be before Covid.
The lobby bar has 2 coffee machines with excellent choice of coffees.
The lobby bar ca[... read more]n get quite busy due to bartenders joking around and singing. It’s quite entertaining but not when there’s 20 people in line, I could see everyone getting frustrated. They used to put coasters under your drinks but I guess they cut back. Having a cold drink and water dripping from glass onto your clothes.
Bring bug spray, came home with dozens of bites. I saw many people with bites.

TRS Cap Cana Hotel: Disappointment
Outside grounds were clean, neat & well landscaped, but the rooms are a major letdown. The resort bills itself as 5 star but the rooms are no better than 3 star at best. New mattresses and a dash of paint over past bestbefore date everything. Our 1st room had a noisy A/C fan, a bar fridge that didn't work, & a bathroom that looked worn out and dingy.
For an extra $700+ we were able to upgrade somewhat(same jr. suite, but with a swim up pool).
Food was generally good, with a reasonable v[... read more]ariety of dishes. Staff were very friendly, but poorly trained in alot of cases, forgetting to bring drinks, etc.
My wife developed food poisoning on about the 5th day which ruined the balance of our vacation. We never left the resort, so we know the issue was on site.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Clean resort, good service, not-so good food, terrible golf course
Between a 3 star to 4 star. Jumped on a Black Friday deal. Check-in was verrrry long when we arrived at 10:30pm as there was a single guy working and a family of 10 was trying to check in under special negotiated pricing. An hour later of waiting patiently, we checked in within minutes. Oceanview room in Building 8 is spectacular and clean. Great view from the balcony. No noise, no loud music and no little kids. The Reserve has two very nice adult pools, bar, and beach front with plenty [... read more]of palapas. Compared to Iberostar Grand, the Reserve is newer, cleaner and better. But the Grand is better for food and golf (note though that this is pre-COVID comparison and have not returned to the Grand since 2020....the Grand value and food were in decline as well which is why we have not returned there). Sante for breakfast and lunch are good. However, all dinners are by reservation only except for the one buffet, Lunch Box. Flora/Dominican was excellent. Mexican was gross and terrible where some dishes used the liquid orange cheese like in sports stadiums. Italian is bearable. Sante is good but not great as food and soups came lukewarm. Steakhouse was okay for my sirloin but my wife's veal was tough more like a flank steak (I realise that one does not go to the DR for steak). Not sure what the Grand Cana is like but the Reserve is supposedly the Paradisus top level. Beach is what we go to the PC for and is beautiful white sand and the resort folks serve you well. Unfortunately the ocean is horribly littered with plastic and there are many boats, yachts, (very loud motors and loud & bad Caribbean music). etc….perhaps the source of all that plastic as it is not as prevalent at other hotel beach fronts in PC? I would NOT recommend the Cocotal Golf (sure I am playing golf in January). It is pricey even at the discounted $127 USD if you are staying at the resort ($220 regular if you don’t and trust me, you shouldn’t as there are other nicer courses). Everything is extra charges - practice balls are all cracked, etc. I’ve golfed all over and do realize one will pay more to play at a resort. But this course is a joke. Distance markers (red, white, blue) are inconsistent, dog crap, cyclists and non-golfer walkers (signs all over prohibiting dogs and walkers but I guess the condo and home have more power) are on the course, putting greens are scruffy and inconsistent, carts are older and more worn out than at a local public city-run $25 golf course, sand (no rakes cuz more like cement bunkers) is rarity in the bunkers, but luckily good weather, water, fertilizer and very liberal use of herbicide (spraying something while golfers playing) allows the fairways to be acceptable. Melia seems to be building new condos on the course and will have spend big $$$$$$ to improve the course. Maybe that’s why resort tourists are getting gouged for golf. At check-out, the concierge asked my opinion and quickly filled in the blanks on the food, so it must be a common complaint. I might return to give the Reserve another chance as beginning January is still the “quiet” time but likely not. Will try another resort.

Princess Family Club Bavaro: Family Club Fun!
The family club area was perfect for our vacation with 8 family members aged 2-78. The family buffet was the perfect size for breakfast and lunch. Kids enjoyed the pool and water park. Overall the grounds had beautiful greenspace and natural areas. The main pool and beach is very far from the family club. Taking the trolly made the trip enjoyable.

I found that the resort was very well maintained and I was very happy with the accommodations, the pools and the food as buffets and restaurants.
The beach was beautiful and unlike my first visit years ago going to a beach was not pleasant since vendors never stopped bothering people but this trip I found even with more vendors, that they all took a no for an answer and moved on without incidents.
I only wish that when our flight was cancelled that they would have the ability to allow use of t[... read more]he room till later, we were able to keep 1 room for 4 extra hours at a cost of 10.00 an hour but our bus was only due 2010 but then flight was cancelled and we were stuck in the lobby with a very large crowd due to rain and then very loud music and very warm

From the time we stepped off the plane til we left the resort we wanted for nothing! The resort was prestige, food and drinks were amazing and plentiful. The staff was very polite and attentive. My wife and I were actually embarrassed to complain about anything because if something wasn't quite right it was fixed that day! We had a Butler who checked in with us everyday no matter where we were. Please try this resort if you haven't already and if you have you know what I'm talking about!

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Trip to Punta Cana Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana
It was so nice to unwind and rejuvenate after a very stressful quarter of my job. Kevin was very helpful in sending us the required information of what was required and information details on the resort we chose. It was a last-minute interaction we received the information pertinent to our destination of choice. The hotel itself was lovely the grounds well kept, a 4-star review. I've traveled to Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, but was looking for a reasonable all-inclusive, trip with nice beaches good [... read more]weather, and good food. The grounds were impeccable, rooms were decent, the pool was great, beach was nice, but for this resort possibly due to previous weather events very narrow and busy. Walking a couple of minutes, beach widens with more room. Ocean was beautiful, but I would pick a different location next time based on two things. Comfort and surroundings on the beach and mosquitoes. I was fine the first half of the trip but have several bites that are causing me a grief, and I am from Northern Ontario home of mosquitoes and blackflies lol. We managed but based on these two factors would choose a different resort. Food was good we managed to find something we liked everyday. Much better than Cuba! Great job for giving us the necessary paperwork we needed to enter Dominican but better customer service in giving reviews and a more personal review or extra effort on showing the pros and cons and personal reviews was needed.
