The Barcelo Maya Palace is a resort that used to provide great customer service. This year we have been disappointed with some aspect of the resort management. To start the front desk agent who received us at the lobby was very unpleasant, ridgid and cold. The resort refused to accommodate us with the type of room we had requested when we reserved 5 monts in advance. And during the week The restaurant reservation process was a pain. We were not able to get the restaurants at hours we wanted alth[... read more]ough we noticed these restaurants were not very occupied at these hours. We had to negotiate painfully all the reservations unsuccessfully most of the times. We even had to go to the same restaurant twice days in a row. The servers in the restaurants were always very nice and the people cleaning the room and the site of the resorts were nice and efficient. Unfortunately some of the customer service agents did not demonstrate the customer dedication that we have experienced in the previous stays at this resort

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Beautiful Resort, amazing staff and great food
A little late writing this review lets just say life got a bit busy once we got back. We visited this resort for the first time on the week of Nov. 1-8 2025. All we can say is this is fantastic resort we have no complaints. We booked the upgrade to premier and it was worth it. Right from the check in to everything else that goes with it. We had our separate check in area and we did not have to book any a la carts as it was already done for us, and if there was any we wanted to change we could do[... read more] that after.Check in was quick and our room was ready for us when we got there. The room is fantastic and large and the view over the pool and the ocean was beautiful. Do bring water shoes as the ocean has rocky areas in it but where the rocks were we saw lots of different fish. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained do be prepared to walk as it is a large resort. As for the food there is no complaints, the buffet was good and had great variety each day and the a la carts were fantastic especially the Japanese one. As for staff and service they were all fantastic. We had an issue with the A/C on the second day, we called down to our concierge desk and within half hour maintenance arrived and had the issue resolved. One employee in particular really stood out and was fun to deal with his name is Jesus Puc, he made our stay a lot more fun. He was at the pool/beach bar during the day and than at the piano bar in the evening. The only bad experience was at the Strikers bar lets just say the food there was not that good as well as the service. We will definitely put this resort on our high list and will visit it again. We have been to a number of different resorts over the years and this is one in our top 3. We highly recommend you give it a try you won't regret it

Barcelo Maya Palace: Barcelo Maya Palace
We've just returned from a 2 week
vacation (Nov 6-20th) with the Barcelo Maya Palace.
It was wonderful!
Neither my husband or myself have traveled in around 10-15 yrs. So we have lost some of our traveling skills with the technical advances that have been made. Choosing and purchasing our holiday package online through TripCentral/ flying with Westjet was an easy process. I did not feel once like I needed to speak directly with our travel agent/ advisor. We recieved emails with our require[... read more]d travel steps from
TripCentral consistently and in a timely matter, there was always a phone number if we ever felt like we needed assistance.( but never did)
However, our experience at the airport was another story. Lol, thanks again to the two angels that helped us with the new ticket/passport scanners. We'd still be standing there if they hadn't stopped to assist us. My advice, familiarize yourself with the airport layouts and the new ticket/ boarding technology if you're out of practice and old like us, to reduce your stress levels.
The Resort: So great to stay at a resort that has a swim-able beach ( with lifeguard!) And yes we saw turtles, and so many other fish!
There were usually always lounge chairs at either the activity pool or at the beach whenever we needed them. But not always shade, so if that's a concern keep it in mind.
The pools were impeccably clean as was the entire facility.
It's such a pleasure and a privilege to spend the day outside, to return to a wonderfully cool and clean room. We found all the staff to be very hard working helpful and polite!
The la cart dinners, what can I say, every aspect of them was delicious!
The regular buffets were pretty well stocked and had a good variety. I'd make the loop, carefully choosing what I wanted, only to find my food cold when I returned to my table. More advice..... walk around and preview the food so you can get it and get back to your table while your food still warm lol.
Sure after 2 weeks there was some food redundancy but there are always the other hotel's buffets to go to if you need to shake things up a bit.
Resort size: It seemed like so much walking! We should have tried to request a room closer to the lobby and pool! My husband has previous work injuries to contend with, if we had known how much walking was involved we would have at least tried. Instead we went with the "Canadain Martyr effect" and toughed it out for the 2 wks. My and husband I both came home just under 10 lbs lighter each, and we both find walking our dog back at home easier, lol.
But seriously, if you have similar concerns with mobility do look into renting an aide. There were several being used by people in several different styles!
Our bus rides to and from the hotel came with our vacation package. We did almost miss our ride from the airport to the hotel, but managed to find them and we were dropped off at the front doors of our hotel quite promptly. As well as our ride back to the airport. The busses used are more comfortable than our airplane seats from Canada ?? to ?? with how closely packed the passengers are now.
Overall We give our trip a 4/5, with point loss mostly due to getting old and finding out that some of our traveling needs have changed and practically unbearable plane flights.
Breakdown
Trip Central : 5/5, shopping and purchasing experience.
Barcelo Maya Palace: 4/5, Hotel was a bit too large for our liking and they won't guarantee a closer room. Buffet food could have been hotter.
Westjet: 3/5 flight staff were wonderful. Pilots got us there safely and a bit early in both directions, always a bonus!
The real loss of points was that our flight home was unbearably hot, can't airlines keep the cabin temperature more closely matched to passengers needs? Isn't it bad enough that we pay to be packed in airplanes like livestock.

Sensira Resort and Spa: Disappointing and frustrating.
It was the most disappointing vacation we had ever had for a five star plus resort. The road to get to this resort is the worst we have seen. This resort is in the jungle, nothing to do, no place to walk to or see Once you are in the resort you are stuck unless you paid for private transportation to get anywhere. The food in the buffet for the first two days was OK. After that food was cold and recycled. The food in the four restaurants was disappointing and a joke, very low quality meat and fo[... read more]od. We got sick after eating sea food and never ate it again. We paid extra for the Ruby suit which came with benefits and was never told to us when we checked in, we found about this from other guest a week later, no info was given to us about the internet or how to find the TV which works for fifteen minutes then switched to the resort advertising all the time. We feel we did not get our money's worth at this resort. This was not a cheap,we will never come back to this resort.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Nice Holiday
We enjoyed our stay at this resort. The staff here is amazing! They made up for the short comings with their caring and positive attitudes. Both Italia and Isobel helped us when I sprained my ankle. These ladies went beyond what was necessary to ensure that I was well cared for and comfortable. They truly were wonderful. The nightly shows were excellent and most of the a la carte meals were delicious. I enjoyed the pools and the gradual entry into one was needed and appreciated. The room[... read more]s need updating as does the lobby area. The trolleys to the beach were regular but the distance and time it takes would discourage me from returning. The beach area designated for this resort was not suitable for swimming without water shoes but the beach bar was quite lovely. Overall it is a good 4 star resort suitable for quieter, mature adults.

Beautiful resort. Rooms are very modern, everything super clean. Grounds well kept. Food great and lots of choice. Was nervous that it’s known as the party resort and yes it is for those who want it. But lots of quiet spots too. Beach was amazing and the view too. We had partial ocean view

El Dorado Royale: Amazing resort!
We just returned from the El Dorado Royale and had an amazing time! My friends and I had an absolute blast. The resort is beautiful, the grounds are stunning, and the food was incredible-truly felt like fine dining every night. The only downside was the room service; we never received what we ordered, even after trying a few times. Other than that, everything else was fantastic and we loved our stay! We will be back!

Viva Maya by Wyndham: So much fun!
This hotel is one of our faves. Small enough that the staff know you by name, but large enough to provide many fun activities. We enjoyed the flying trapeze, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, bingo, archery, bike ride to small ruins, foos ball and thw pool party which were all included. The beach was absolutely amazing all but 1 day. This was our third time there and will definitely be going back.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Overall good experience
Review of My Stay
My vacation started off on a stressful note. The ride from the airport was supposed to take around 50 minutes, but the driver took us through random neighborhood areas, which felt unsafe and uncomfortable. The trip ended up taking about 2 hour and a half, and we didn’t arrive at the resort until around 11:45 PM.
Check-in was smooth and the resort representative was very nice, providing all the necessary information quickly. However, when we got to the room, things took an[... read more]other disappointing turn. The room was extremely outdated, and after a long day of traveling, I was shocked to discover there was no water at all. I couldn’t take a shower or even brush my teeth before going to bed, which was unacceptable.
During the stay, Maurio (from Chile) stood out in the best way — always smiling, kind, and ready to help with anything. Thank you, Mario, for your excellent service.
The restaurants were wonderful every night — great service and great food. The resort grounds were beautiful with lots of walking paths, plenty of shade, and gorgeous palm trees and landscaping. Those were truly highlights of the trip.
Room service cleaned the room daily, but for some reason we constantly had to request coffee or fridge refills. Even though we repeatedly asked, water was never restocked, and we ended up having to buy it from the plaza (which fortunately was inexpensive at 20 pesos).
One major downside was the constant presence of salespeople around the resort, which became very annoying. I come on vacation to relax, not to be bothered repeatedly or deal with rude responses. I especially want to mention the young Asian photographer in the evenings — he was unprofessional, bullying, and even made rude comments in his language. I don’t understand how someone like that represents the resort.
Overall, the experience had its good points — great food, beautiful grounds, and a few exceptional staff members — but the resort really needs to improve staff politeness and address room issues, especially the inconsistent water supply. Hot water was on and off throughout the stay, which was frustrating. With a few important improvements, this could have been a much better vacation.

Hotel Dos Playas Faranda: DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL
The hotel is a dump. Unsafe in my honest opinion. Pools are gross. Clientele in the only restaurant is buffet and we saw a person use their hands to pull out food, luck her fingers, then grab some more. Everything was gross, really gross.
I tried to get tripcentral to change the hotel prior to leaving after we saw a YouTube video. Tripcentral employee said cannot change hotel, so we chanced it.
Upon arrival, we immediately wanted to leave. The air canada guide on site said he would try t[... read more]o make a change for us. He came back with price quotes more than DOUBLE what we paid for the original trip to only change hotels. Total cost if we moved would have been over $6,000 for 2 peeps. That’s a gouge! So we stayed.
Air Canada vacations ruined our vacation. Will NOT use them in the future ever.

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya: Nice place but wish we had known before booking
We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Zilara, but people should be aware of a couple things before picking a room. We booked a "tropical" swim up room, when we arrived we were informed that there was construction directly beside the hotel, knowing we would not be happy with construction noise all day, we attempted to change rooms rather than try it and then change, we were informed there were no other rooms available, but to check in the morning to see if we we still wanted to change rooms. Sure [... read more]enough 7am we were woken to the sound of pounding and truck traffic. We went to the check in and asked for a new room--with some hesitation they moved us to the other side of the hotel, same "tropical" swim up room. we get to the new room--our "tropical" view was a 2 foot wide hedge that stood maybe 4 feet high, beyond that was a service road and 2 feet from there was a huge green garbage dumpster. But that was not the worse part-- this side was extremely close to the neighboring resort, where we got to listen to pounding music all day from noon on till 5 --the music from the other resort could be heard better than from our own resort. We tried to change rooms again, but were informed there were no rooms available, we gave up and just took what we got. **NOTE** pool view had none of these problems--so if booking this hotel in the next year ( construction was just getting started ) if you don't like the sounds of construction or blaring noises--book a pool or ocean view room.
The food and choices were limited for dinner --3 Asian style restaurants in 1 setting --Hibachi ( reservations) Sushi ( reservations ) and Chinese ala carte..as well as Italian ( no reservations) and a beach restaurant ( no reservations ) and of course a buffet, that was closed on both Saturday and Sunday nights due to low season..Wait--weren't we told the hotel did not have rooms implying a full hotel? food rating over all was about a 4..with the Asian restaurant being best
The rooms were wonderful big and clean, the hotel was in great shape and the staff ( other than check in ) were amazing. The ocean close and the sand was clean--very little seaweed.
Over all we had a great time and enjoyed ourselves. Would return now knowing what rooms to book.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: A good value for your stay
I would rate this place seven out of 10 we didn’t mind the walking at all. we found there was a lot of rude people people butting into lines where you get food and at the bar, they need to start doing something about this. There was a lot of fighting and arguments going on.In our room and around some of the buildings there is a foul odour, no hot water and some of the dated items in the room,
There was so much to do at the resort! We could either choose to relax or join in on the many activities offered. The resort is very clean and we always felt safe no matter where we were on the resort - Extremely kid friendly! The staff are amazing- so friendly and helpful! We would definitely travel back! ?

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Good resort
Grounds are lovely. Pools need tiles and lights replaced, some covers were being held on with zip ties. Rooms are spacious and clean. Water in the shower was tepid at best but hot at the sink. Juan was the best concierge and made our stay wonderful. Food was good. Lots of activities every day. The kids doing activities looked like they were having a blast.
