Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Couldn't have asked for better!

Perfect from start to finish. The rooms were lovely, with fantastic room service. The pools were huge and it was only steps to the ocean! Everything was super well kept, you can tell the staff cares! Every server we had was exceptional and took such great care of us. Food was good, would have loved some more vegan options however. There was always something for us to eat, but some meals were repetitive.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Amazing Resort

Loved this resort. Food in all restaurants was great. Buffets had everything you could imagine, gluten free and vegan choices as well. Children's buffet tables too. The shows at night were better than I've ever seen. Rooms were large and clean, several pools to chose from. Adults only, family, entertainment and multiple splash pads for kids. Beautiful grounds with wildlife to watch. Dolphinarium on property to watch whenever you want too. Loved it!

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Amazing Resort, VERY dated rooms.

This was my second time at this resort... here are my findings. 1) The Good - The resort is beautiful. The beach is amazing! The pools are fantastic and the staff is outstanding. 2) The Bad - The food is just okay. Not bad, just not great. The restaurants require ridiculous reservations and when you get there, they are half empty at 7pm. They REALLY do mean no shorts. I went with dress shorts and was turned away while guys with ripped jeans and backwards baseball caps were allowed i [... read more]n. Take advantage of the free mini golf, but know your kids (even as teens) cannot sign themselves in... for no good reason except that is the rule. WiFi is $60 CAD for TWO devices, but actually works pretty good on the resort, even on the beach. 3) The Ugly - The rooms are down right nasty. Now, the Premium rooms are nice, re-done and well kept. The standard rooms are run down, in desperate need of maintenance and we had ants all over the place. Tiny little ones. Didn't bother me, freaked out my kids. All in all, it was my second time there. We did have a good time for sure. Would I go back? Probably not... unless I got a Premium Level or stayed in the Palace / Riviera. I think next time we would just try something else for variety, not because of the resort. It really is beautiful, outside of the rooms.

Allegro Cozumel: nice resort

This resort will not serve alcohol until NOON.. they had a notice on the bars stating it was Mexican law ! This was false so I was told, it is only this resort that came up with this rule!!! so I will not be returning here in the future.. the grounds and rooms are nice. The food was repetitive with little variety.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Unlike anything we expected

This resort was nothing like we expected. Our room was clean, bed was comfortable and if you needed anything all you had to do was ask. There were monkeys climbing around the trees, macaws in the lobby area and other wildlife to see. The pool was huge and the food was good with a big variety to choose from. The only thing we didn’t care for was the 2 hour sales pitch to join their Royal Club. The amenities they showed us for the Royal Club were more upscale and very nice but also wildly expens [... read more]ive. Nice for some but it was not for us. I think they need to figure out another way of introducing the Royal Club to their guests instead of taking time out of a guests day, almost felt a little tricked into it with a note on our door that says they want to give you a welcome gift. All in all a good vacation and would recommend to others.

Barcelo San Jose: Great hotel

Everything met expectations. I was not happy about not being able to walk because of the highway. I was not expecting to be so isolated but that's on me for not doing more research. Resort was great but i would not pick that location again.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Good Resort

The Barcelo Colonial was a decent hotel. The grounds were well kept and the beach was exceptional (probably the highlight of our trip). White sand and lots for the kids to see and do (including snorkeling and seeing turtles). The waves were a lot of fun for the kids to play in. The pools were huge and well kept and the kids really enjoyed the water park. I would rate the rooms as just OK. You can tell it is an older resort and had some mildew/mold in the rooms at times and musty smell. I  [... read more]found the beds uncomfortable. The food was just OK. Breakfast having the most variety and best meal of the day. They do no offer anything but bottom shelf alcohol which they claim they are a 4/5* resort. Some of the waiters and/or bartenders were not as friendly as others (whereas some went above and beyond) and felt it was a hassle to serve you. Overall the kids had a great time, but probably would not go back to this resort again.

Occidental Punta Cana: Good Value if you dont want fancy!!

Resort was clean, someone was always cleaning the bathrooms, especially at the beach. Grounds are well manicured. Pack your patience for service at the lobby bar. You will need to sweater when having dinner as all the restaurants and buffet are extremely cold.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Excellent!

Fantastic resort with superb staff. Everything we experienced from the food to the pools was more than you could wish for! I would recommend this resort to any family looking for a five-star resort on the Riviera Maya.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Fabulous resort

Just spent a week at this resort and we loved it! I have been to many resorts and this one is definitely one we will return to. Room was clean maid was very good. Grounds are beautiful staff was friendly and always helpful. Pools and beach amazing. Resort has everything you would need for all ages .. The entertainment was good ! We stayed in the colonial section that was nice because it’s central to everything we took the time to check out all the section and they are all beautiful definitely we will return!!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Great resort that has something for everyone.

We loved the hotel it was very big so we did lots of walking exploring all the areas however, if you can’t walk there is a train shuttle that goes around. We had a junior suite room that was very nice and had a jacuzzi on the balcony which we enjoyed. The food at the buffet and restaurants was amazing and plenty of options. Staff was amazing and the hotel was very clean. We can’t wait to return.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great family resort!

Resort is huge with lots of stuff to do for everyone! Pools are amazing along with the beach! Food was good with good a la cartes. Only disappointment was the uncomfortable beds, poor air circulation and mould in the bathroom.

Barcelo Tambor: Beautiful resort Barcelo Tambor

The resort was beautiful, clean, amazing grounds. So much wildlife to see monkeys, birds beautiful red Mccaws,iguanas, most amazing sunrise.The pool was very nice. The travel to resort was much longer than was said because of road construction was disappointed cause our departure was so early for a later flight due to road closures... feel we missed out on a days vacation due to the travel of the resort when we were told 2hr drive not 4hrs. The fact that it catered to locals would not return they would bud in line found very rude.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: The resort was amazing!

Resort was super clean, great staff, great food, lots to do right on the resort. The resort is fairly large so never seemed to be crowded. I would definatly recommend this resort to anyone. One small issue would is being a adult only resort, the music that was played around the pool was more for teenagers than adults. Small issue but I would change that.

Barcelo Ixtapa: Great Resort

A-la-cartes were excellent, rooms were sufficient, beach super, water warm , nice sandy beach, shows werent the best but overall i would recommend to anybody who is looking for a nice beach, great food and standard rooms.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Very large resort with lots of activities on site (and TURTLES)

My Review is reflective of my experiences visiting many resorts in the Mayan Riviera and Cancun area. We Stayed at the Barcelo Maya Palace from Friday Jan 31-Feb 7 2020. Our family of 3 (2x adults and 1x 13 year old) stayed in an Oceanfront Premium Jr Suite. We flew with Air Canada Rouge. Overall, I would say that this resort is good for large groups of people. There are lots of things to do right on the resort: on site shopping, bowling, water parks, zip lining, dolphin show/encounters, snor [... read more]keling, non motorized water sports, scuba, spa, mini golf, basketball, tennis etc... Some of these extras are included in your AI and some things felt like they should be included (e.g. Pirate Island water park, bowling) and some things are understandably an extra cost (zip lining, dolphin encounters). Because of the variety of activities, there will be something for everyone. Extra activities that I participated in were = snorkeling, spa, water circuit, fitness center, and shopping. Usually I like to stay at a smaller more boutique resort where there are no reservations required for dinner, all dinners are at a la carte restaurants, you don't have to wake up at 7am to 'reserve' a shady spot by the pool and there is beach drink service. I have recognized that these features are more important to me than access to 100s of activities that I do not participate in. Good: Ocean front room view - the view was worth the extra cost, it was lovely to be able to hear the waves from our balcony and watch the sunset over the ocean. The room was standard, and I would say 'well worn', the resort is showing its age. I would encourage Barcelo to refresh the rooms in the Premium section asap, everything feels old, dated, well used and broken. Although it is obvious they have been maintaining the rooms well... I don't think you can escape time, we stayed at this resort in Jan 2014 and everything was almost the same. Snorkeling - the snorkeling opportunities right at the resort are unparalleled in my experience. No other resort that I have stayed at in Mexico can offer this level of snorkeling just walking into the ocean from your bedroom. We saw dozens of varieties of tropical fish and ocean life. the highlight of my vacation was swimming with the green sea turtles that hang out in the bay in front of the resort. This alone made our trip worthwhile. Walking - This resort is enormous and there is a lot of walking, which I very much enjoyed. I wore my apple watch and logged between 15,000-25,000 steps per day. One of my favourite activities at this resort was to walk from one end of the Oceanfront trail to the other and back. Palace Buffet - the quality, quantity and variety of food at the palace buffet was exceptional. We did try some of the other buffets at the other resorts and they do not come close to the variety of dishes on offer at the Palace. I especially appreciated that there were authentic Mexican dishes every night at the Palace Buffet. This alone is a reason to stay at the Palace vs. Caribe/Colonial/Tropical. Premium check-in - I am not sure if the easy checkin process was worth the extra cost, but it was very nice and one of the highlights. Other resorts we have stayed at have this level of checkin standard (e.g. Excellence and Finest), I love being offered a cold towel and cool drink when I arrive off the bus from the airport. Rodizio - I had a delicious steak cooked to perfection. I would definitely return for this meal. Bad: Bus ride to resort - very long, and we stopped at 6x other resorts to drop people off on the trip down from the airport. We were the last stop on the milk run. Our flight left at 6:10am from Toronto and we did not arrive at the resort until 4pm Buffet at Colonial / Tropical - Terrible, avoid at all costs. The wait staff forgot about my drink order, there was very little variety and most meats were over cooked and selection was limited. Micheal Jackson show - avoid at all costs. The back up dancers do a great job, but MJ just didnt perform and it felt like a bad lip sync contest. No beach service - I know it sounds lazy, but there is no service on the Beach. So if you want a water or beer etc... you have to walk to the pool bar, wait in long lines to grab a bottle of water. I have seen other resorts that do not offer beach service fill up coolers with beer and water on the beach. This could be a great stop gap measure. Capri restaurant @ Barcelo Maya tropical - avoid. Spa - I had the Energy Massage (80min) - I was hoping to get a deep relaxing massage. This did not happen. I'm glad I paid 40% off list price ($140 USD), but it still wasn't worth it. Note: they automatically include a tip prior to your service

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Love this resort! We will be back!

Hotel was amazing, food is great, and all the staff are amazing and pleasant. This was our second visit and we would definitely return in the future! Highly recommend the Japanese a la carte (Tokyo or Kyoto) and the Santa Fe Steakhouse.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Truly unforgettable

My wife and I have been going on vacation for years, and we’ve been to some really nice places in Dominican republic in Jamaica and Costa Rica but this is the Mecca of all holiday resorts!!! Allegro Cozumel: Great Resort!

I stayed at this resort from January 31st to February 7th with my mother (64) and son (19 months). Don't let the other reviews fool you. The rooms are on the smaller side but you are on vacation so shouldn't be spending much time there! The beach is beautiful, we spent every morning there playing in the sand and surf with my son then in the afternoon went to the quiet pool and kids pool. The food was great, sometimes there was a bit of repetition but it was always warm and there was always somet [... read more]hing tasty. The few drinks that we had were tasty! We didn't get to any of the shows at night so I cannot comment on those. The grounds were beautiful and you always saw the gardeners working hard. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and always willing to help. I wish we were still there!

Occidental Caribe: A great hotel with character

The grounds and access to the ocean, including views was absolutely stunning. The beach is a shimmering white, not even a hint of seaweed or debris anywhere. The Occidental Caribe is an older facility which is well maintained and has a flavour of the Dominican. There are s me other beautiful newer resorts but the Caribe has old work beauty & character.
