We choose this hotel as it was the number one rated in Cayo Coco, the lobby of this resort is nice and the new furniture that was added while we were there was a bright, modern improvement. There is a nice bar by the pool and all of the amenities were close due to the size of the hotel. However the accomodations were very disappointing. We discovered cockroaches in our room and the water pressure in the very outdated showers was terrible. We were told they couldn’t fix it and offered a bott[... read more]le of rum. Our rooms were not stocked with water or toilet paper after the first couple of days! (basic necessities)
The food was decent, especially the beach grill at lunch. There were several nights that the single cook at the buffet was not able to keep up with cooking the meals despite the hotel being at 50% capacity. But this did make it easy to find spots at the pool and the beach. This was our first trip post Covid so we understand it takes time to work the kinks out. The beach is amazing and was cleaned daily and all of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Overall our experience was positive but still some attention to the details would've made it even better.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Fantastic resort
Well maintained . Thank you front desk customer servive (Lisbehy for assisting us in our room room to room moving) Excellent service to all staff restaurant staff, housekeeping , pool and beach, and bar staff. Keep up your excelent service . Food at the resort need improvement. We were there 1st of June 2022, storm season. Only one day of sunshine the rest of the week were cloudy and raining. Bring $1 US paper bills or Lonies and Tonies if you wish to give tips. Limit exchanging Cuban money because they donnot accept Cuban currency outside resort. Sol Palmeras: Another wonderful vacation at Sol Palmeras
I stayed at Sol Palmeras with family in December 2020 and returned again recently (May 27 - June 10). I was not disappointed - had a wonderful time!
Highlights:
- The resort is very clean and staff continue to be extremely attentive to ensure that guests are comfortable and well cared for.
- I stayed in a bungalow steps from the beach. Although the decor is not modern, it was super comfortable, spacious, and spotless. Everything worked perfectly, I never ran out of hot water, and my maid[... read more] left a fresh bottle of drinking water each day. I loved my little casita.
- That beach. Varadero Beach is just stunning. Every time I waded into the calm turquoise ocean, my zen level went up at least 100%.
- The food at the resort was plentiful with enough variety that I never got bored during my two weeks at the hotel. Omelettes, fresh fruit and yogurt for breakfast. Lunch at the beach bar or the snack bar in the bungalow section. Dinner at the a la carte or buffet. Lots of fresh grilled fish. I went home feeling healthier and happier. Knowing how much food prices have gone up for the Cuban people, and the hardship that they are experiencing (now more than ever), I felt incredibly grateful and appreciative for everything that was available to us.
- Entertainment: The animation team at Sol Palmeras is outstanding in terms of their non-stop energy and creativity in keeping guests entertained and feeling welcomed and included. Special thanks to Carlos and Marcelo, and DJ Roberto. The nighttime shows were as impressive as any I've seen in Cuba, with talented dancers, singers, and acrobats working their butts off to keep us happy. Would have loved to see even more traditional Cuban music and dance in the performances to highlight the beautiful arts and culture in Cuba.
In short, I feel hugely appreciative to all of the people who went out of their way to make my trips memorable, both in December 2020 and now. I will always hold these memories in my heart. Gracias a todos para el regalo de unas vacaciones maravillosas. Ojala que un dia muy pronto puedo regresar a Sol Palmeras!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Awesome resort!
This Resort is one l would like to return to for many reasons. A few are the welcoming and polite staff. The staff have as a whole highly impressed me. The food was good. Enough variety that you could eat something different each day. The beach was as all Cuban beaches are, just amazing. They are very aware of what they need to do to keep the Covid standards. And they willingly comply for our safety. I would recommend this resort to everyone. We had one of the best holidays.

Melia Cayo Coco: Nice resort, good food
Melia Cayo Coco June 2-9. Traveled as a couple, both in our early 60’s. Flew with Air Canada Rouge, flight was on time going, delayed in Montreal coming home, no free meals on flight but was able to purchase something on board. Customs in Cayo Coco was easy and smooth. While flying into Cayo Coco you receive a tourist card, once filled out this card is presented to the customs officer upon arrival. In years past they would keep one half of of the card and the other half you were responsible to[... read more] hold on to it for your return flight. This time around it was different, we received the card back in its entirety from customs. Keep this card with your passport for your return flight home, customs will then keep the card at the time of departure. The resort is probably a fifteen minute drive by car, but by bus with one stop along the way it was more like 30-35 minutes. As far as Covid is concerned we did not experience any problems or delays. We had to wear our masks on the plane. We had our ArriveCAN completed and ready for customs etc, at the airport it was glanced at quickly but never scanned. Check in at the Melia was easy but like at most hotels our room was not ready, (we arrived around 3:00pm). We went for a late lunch, had a couple of beers and checked back later, no big deal. We had what they called an updated room, building 64xx, all white painted furniture including a rocking chair. Our room was kept very clean, we believe the bed sheets were changed every day as were the towels if requested. Sheets and towels were super white which the Mrs really appreciated. We had a king sized bed which was super comfortable! The AC worked perfect, we had absolutely no musty odour in our room, the kind of odour you can sometime run into occasionally at some hotels down south. As indicated on here the staff are very friendly and want to ensure your stay is a pleasurable one. We appreciate this very much, however we never expect hotel / buffet / restaurant staff to cater to us so much that we get bent out of shape if every little detail is not carried out by them, we do have two feet and a heart beat and are capable of getting out of our own way to get or do somethings for ourselves instead of them waiting on us hand and foot. There were mosquitoes, however, we did not get bitten even though we did not use bug spray. We did notice some people had some nasty bites, so probably it’s a good idea to take bug spray with you especially if your prone to bites. During our one week stay we did see someone with a contraption on his back spray for the pesky insects every evening. On our last two days there was a low flying airplane that would circle the hotel grounds numerous times early in the morning spraying, not sure what chemical they were using but I honestly don’t think it was an overly powerful substance because there were mosquitoes around mostly every day anyway. We spent our days at the beach which is beautiful. The water was warm and that nice light teal colour because of the white sand. I wanted to ask but forgot as to why the sand is not one bit hot like on some other beaches where you have a hard time walking on it barefoot. We never had a problem getting chairs at the beach, sometime we had to walk a bit further because we arrived later which was no big deal. We have been traveling south for over 30 years, I would have to say the food at this hotel is definitely one of the best we’ve had. For the first time ever I hadn’t craved anything to eat from home. We ate at the three different a le carte restaurants (same dining area for all three) and enjoyed each one very much. On our last day we discovered the ice cream booth / stand which is open daily from 11-5 just off the lobby, nice treat to help cool off. Every thing was good and we had a great week at the Melia Cayo Coco with only a couple of minor things…….We knew this was a quiet resort geared more towards people who want to relax and have things low key, we enjoy this type of resort that’s why we chose the Melia. However, we did wish the entertainment in the evening was more varied and in some cased extended. We always enjoyed the singer in the evening but found it to be a very short show, usually only a hand full of songs. The nightly shows put on by the animation team were very good, lots of high energy and a brilliant display of talent, but too repetitive in our opinion. The Michael Jackson show was supposed to be held one night during our stay but got canceled for some reason, we were really looking forward to that show and it would have broken up the regular dance show. As mentioned WiFi is free and the speed is good for what we needed anyway. The one annoying thing about this is the LONG and unnecessary user name and password required EVERY time you want to get on your device. A SIMPLE password would surely suffice here in our opinion. These are minor things but I felt they needed to be mentioned again, I know many others have already mentioned some of these things, I just wanted to reiterate. To wrap up I’ll say “good job Melia Cayo Coco†keep up the GREAT quality and service. We would highly recommend this resort.

Melia Buenavista: The staff are the most friendly, warm and helpful that I have experienced!
We loved our room a great deal with a beautiful view of the ocean. It was so spacious and the bed was really comfortable. We were celebrating my milestone birthday and the hotel gave us an ocean view and did not charge extra for this. We really appreciated this.
The outdoor shower was a real treat. The maid kept our room very clean and the fridge was kept stocked with water and pop. It was so wonderful to have two butlers assigned to us while we vacationed at the resort and they took car[... read more]e of all of our needs. They booked our restaraunts for us each day at the hour that we requested and we never had to line up to book al la cartes. It we had questions or concerns, they were on top of it! Joan went above and beyond for us when it came to any or our requests and took really good care of us. He checked in on us frequently and made sure that our stay was enjoyable. Almando was very friendly and helpful as well.
The cappacinos were delicious and we enjoyed room service frequently. There is nothing lke sipping a monring cappacino on your balcony while looking at the ocean and hearing the bird songs of Cuba.
The resort is peaceful and quiet and my husband and I enjoyed our first adults only vacation.
Thank you to all of the staff for making our first stay in Cayo Santa Maria a very pleasant and enjoyable one!

Paradisus Varadero: Bad experience
I have been in Cuba 7 times prior to this vacation at paradisus varadero last week of May 2022.
By far the worst experience and service.
Watch out for the loggage guys they want Canadian money right from the second they dropped your bags. A thank you is not enough.
1 snack bar is not enough for a big resort, runs out of supplies daily so don't be surprised if you eat a burguer without ketchup and mustard for afew days. (No kidding)
Bring a book or download movies because unless you are under[... read more] 10 you will not enjoy any of the night shows in the entire week .
If you have kids GOOD LUCK! apple juice, orange are no where to be found. We saw cereal in the last 2 days and the cereal was not crunchy.
Food well well well. I been in Cuba 7 times I know food is never good but I never saw a shrimp on the buffet in 7 days not fresh fish only dark tuna steaks which were good surprisingly
Rooms were clean but that smelled of wet never goes away. Keep toilet seat close or you will get that bad Snell all over your clothes.
The gardeners and the cleaning ladies are the ones that will smile and welcome you the most without any interest.
The beach is 9 out of 10
That's why I go to Cuba because of the beach.
Overall I found in this trip that food supply and financial situation has changed what I love the most about the island.
That free loving welcoming spirit.
Now you better have money in your pocket for tips
To Cuba I might return but to paradisus varadero I will not go ever again not even if the trip is free and I get paid to go.

We enjoyed a week at the Melia Varadero. The Cuban employees at all level were beautiful and very accommodating however there were many extremely rude cuban guests at the resort. we did not let this ruin our vacation and maintained our manners . Food was as we expected but the beach at this resort is a real let down. Rocks everywhere. we would walk to other resort to enjoy the water the rooms can really use some attention

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Quiet and Attentive!
My third trip to Cuba and would absolutely stay at this resort again! The people were just lovely and friendly and really made the whole experience wonderful for us. Food for breakfast and lunch was fantastic - lots to choose from! Dinner was a but repetitive but not unexpected in Cuba and still good. The beach is just perfect for snorkeling and windsurfing or sailing. We will definitely be back!

Melia Cayo Coco: Great little resort
This resort was a great little resort for us, but I know it may not be for everyone.
My wife and I are in our 40s and traveled with 2 other couples at the end of April. This is a small resort (250 rooms) about 15 min. from the airport (bonus). We could always find one another if we were apart as this was the smallest resort we had been to. All restaurants and bars were all within a couple of min. walk from everything else. The beach has plenty of space and the sand is not hot to the touch. It[... read more] was always windy so no frisbee throwing. If you are into snorkelling for fish, this is not the beach for you. All sand no rocks.
This resort is older as we could see from the rooms inside the bungalows. There are no hotel style accommodations (another big plus for us). Water pressure was weak, but we made due (never complained about it). This was not the case with the rooms our friends stayed in.
This was not a party resort and the average age was probably in the 50's. We departed on May 1st and there were bus loads of young adults arriving that coincided with the end of universities in Canada. Coincidence?
The food was very good for Cuba and we enjoyed the a-la-carts, but not comparable to other resorts outside Cuba. I loved the lobby bar as it was spacious and over the high ceiling and open to the air. We could always find a seat or a cabana by the pool or beach as it was the off season. This place was not crowded.
While this is not a resort comment, we had perfect weather and no rain our entire week at the resort. 29 degrees C by day, 23 degrees by night.
We enjoyed our time at the resort.

Sol Varadero Beach: Wonderful week away!
We have travelled to Cuba many times, probably 18 in total. It's been a number of years since we were in the Varadero area. The beach is AMAZING!!!! You can't go wrong when it comes to Varadero beaches. The hotel itself has done an outstanding job fixing up and renovating the grounds, they are extremely clean and well maintained. Melia Cayo Coco: Lovely resort
This was our first time to this resort. It’s only 15 minutes from the airport. From leaving the aircraft to arriving in our room was very smooth. I had reserved our à la cartes ahead of time online, and, while I didn’t receive the promised email confirmation, our reservations had been made.
Small touches make a difference : staff was over the top friendly and attentive, the coffee was always piping hot, and all the public area washrooms were always immaculate.
We could usually find [... read more]a palapa on the beach, but folks do tend to do the early morning towel run to reserve a spot. Annoying but hard to avoid.
We tipped in Canadian currency, and were almost always able to get bills changed into loonies and toonies (one and two dollar Canadian coins) at the bar.
We had a renovated room, which seems to mean new shower instead of a tub, which was fine with us. Lots of hot water, pressure was ok. The only toiletries supplied were good sized bottles of shampoo and shower gel. I had been hoping for body lotion - so bring your own if you need it. But in fact, most of the day and night, we were slathered in sunscreen or bug repellant - the resort is on a lagoon, it will be buggy. Always. We were disappointed not to find coffee or a coffee maker in the room. Had I known, I would have brought my little one-cup filter and coffee - but the pool snack bar is open 24/7, so not really an issue.
We love to snorkel, and there really isn’t anywhere off the beach to do so. Our Air Canada rep arranged for us to join a group that left from the next door Pullman resort. For $25.00 CDN you are taken by boat to a reef not too far out for an hour. Absolutely well worth it.
There was always something tasty to eat, though this place had the same odd shortages as other resorts in Cuba. No jam at breakfast- bring your own if it’s important.
We went to the gym one morning. There are bikes, treadmills, the usual equipment, and, while there is a fan, it’s not very effective.
As for Covid, we were told on arrival that all staff were masked, and guests were requested to mask in public areas and when interfacing with staff. Guests who we saw were quite compliant, perhaps a bit on/off in the semi-open lobby area. I brought rapid test kits to the medical building, where I was told they were happy to have them to continue testing staff.
Overall, a satisfying visit. So happy be back in Cuba!

Not very clean at all! Flies everywhere in all restaurants but especially at the buffet!!
Food wasn’t great and not a lot of choices. We are not fussy eaters but we ate almost nothing! Not even at the a la carte restaurants. Everything looked like it was in a can and then dumped on our plates.
Washrooms near the restaurants and bars absolutely disgusting!!
