We have been to Cuba 11 times. As usual the weather and the people were very welcoming. The rooms are clean and bright.
One thing we did notice was that a lot of choices of food were in short supply and not as many choices in the buffet. We do realize that there is a new director general but didn't know that the head chef has also changed. The food was so so but we never went hungry.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Amazing for the overall price
We arrived January 25, spent 10 days at this resort. On a late night flight from Montreal.
It was our first time at a Valentin resort .
The bus ride was approximately 1.5 hours with one stop on the way at another resort.
We were able to purchase a couple of beers in the parking lot of the airport / or on the bus which made it very pleasant.
The tour guide was friendly.
My only complaint was that all commentary was in French.
It seems that it is assumed you are Francophone if you come f[... read more]rom Quebec.
Check in at the resort was quick.
Unfortunately, we did not get the room we requested when we made the booking. We had specifically asked for an upper floor and a king size bed with the agent when booking the flight. The receptionist at the desk said they had no note of our request.
The next two days were very unpleasant. Not only because of the Separate beds and location of the room on the bottom floor. Also because the room had not been prepared for guests. The smell of mildew and moisture was so strong it was intolerable. I literally slept with a piece of my clothing over my face.
We went back to the desk the morning after our arrival and were told there were no other rooms available for two days.
This definitely put a damper on our stay .
However, on the third day they did move us from building 26 to 33. We finally got a king size bed on the 2nd floor.
Building 33 also happened to be on the quieter side of the resort and close the best part of the beach.
The beach itself was great at one end because it was much wider and quieter.
There was little to no seaweed or rocks on that end of the beach .
I would recommend asking for any of the buildings in the 30’s .
The service people were very pleasant and accommodating throughout the resort .
The food was as expected, tolerable. If you go to Cuba with low expectations regarding food then you will be ok.
However, the beach barbecue sandwiches were great .
If you are picky about food then you can find something to eat. Fresh fish, omelettes, salads, chicken.. Fruits were only papaya and pineapple.
I searched for a banana but never saw one .
I was told however the markets are full of a variety
Of fruits .
It was difficult at times to exchange $ as there was only one person to do this at one counter . The line ups were pretty long at times .
The currency was peso used specifically for the resort .,
We were there during the Super Bowl . The staff of course had not heard of this . However, we created our own party with some fellow Canadians in the “sports bar†!
The drinks and alcohol was plentiful!
The general manager of the resort was there daily and very accessible.
Overall, for the price point it was worth the 1225$ for ten days that we spent .
We spent 200usd ( Cuban peso is 1/1 usd) in tips and souvenirs.
The grounds were well maintained and pretty.
I recommend bringing bug spray as the noseeums are pretty bad at times.
Departure was well organized and for a small fee late departure is available 11 pesos per hour.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Bad Resort with a beautiful sea
Yes Cuba is poor and we keep coming back for the beautiful sea but unfortunately the resort got match worse since last year, no food NO FRUITS how can a tropical country have no fruits?! they run out of plastic cups everywhere! we had to keep our cups for the whole day, i was even offered by 1 of the bartender to make me a cup from a plastic bottle. we had to keep our blue towels for the pool for 7 days! they would run out of fresh towels by 9am and wouldn't restock. our bathroom was always dirt[... read more]y and smelled like mould, i had to call the cleaning lady and beg her to clean the bathroom properly and made sure she saw that i was leaving her tips!
public bathrooms NEVER had soap.
its a good resort needs MUCH better budget $$$ and management, its is not a 4 start resort anymore and its to bad, will be trying other resorts in santa clara now.

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Absolutely Loved this resort-
Our first time away, just us two, since our honeymoon 25 years ago, and it was spectacular!
Clean comfortable Air conditioned rooms. We had nothing but friendly resort staff - always smiling and helpful -from the Chamber maids, shuttle drivers, front desk staff , waiters, bartenders, and grounds keepers ! These hard working folks made a point of getting to know you during the short 7 days and always made you feel as if they had known you forever!
My one piece of constructive criticism wa[... read more]s that our Sunwing representative was not as informative , nor friendly- he usually was scowling and didn't not communicate well - our questions when we tried to approach him 1:1 were met with silence, and then a few words, but certainly not friendly. As our orientation meeting was not until the next day, a hand out on arrival ( which was after 5 pm for us) with basic map, and info on where to find food, and from what time to what time, bank hours , and where, and even as simple as how to reach front lobby by phone ( which would have been helpful when we were at the farthest bungalow from the Lobby) . We managed tho and mainly it was due to very Friendly , helpful staff.

Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: One of the Best!
We have just returned from Angsana Resort, Cayo las Brujas, Cuba. It’s a quite new resort, smallish, adult only. To an employee, the staff is dedicated to friendly, professional service. Our Concierge, Yailet, made the difference - what a resource they have in her - professional, empathic, helpful. The gardening staff has created some of the most lush and harmonious grounds. The resort is beautiful.
Our room, a Junior Suite Ocean View, was over-large, calmly decorated, a firm, comfy king be[... read more]d, large entry/closet area, spacious sitting area and very well cleaned each day. The bath was enormous, with soaker tub, separate large rain shower and separate toilet closet. Hot water was never a problem. I’d bring an adapter, extension cord with USBs.
A long large beach was to the west, separated by coral bluffs from Angsana’s smaller eastern hidden beach. Both beaches were always groomed and each had a bar hut, with beach lounge drink service and grill hut serving great burgers and marinated chicken, fish and shrimp skewers.
Never any lounge wars, at either of the 2 pools or the 2 beaches.
Snorkelling was pretty good - lobsters, starfish, conch, small barracuda, fish. A long walk to neighbouring Dahwa Resort will get rides on catamarans, paddle boats and kayaks.
Food was not bad - egg stations at brekkie, very tasty burgers at the pool resto, good lasagna and spag bol at night. The coffee wasn’t good / ASIDE: why is Cuban coffee in resorts always bad and then they try to sell it in bags? You should be giving resort guests the good stuff if you want them to love it then buy it / The 3 al a cartes are located in the same uninspiring room, rotating between Oriental, Italian and Seafood. All are completely bland and forgettable.. not bad, just not tasty. From what I saw out front, I don’t think that the kitchen has a bad larder, it’s just no inspiration or expertise at the chef level. But Angsana is otherwise lovely enough and the food is not bad enough that the level of cuisine would put us off returning.
There was a noticeable lack of entertainment. I’ve never been to a resort in Cuba, big or small, that didn’t have a Cuban night with a trova or small grupo. There was only an hour of either piano, horn or guitar with recorded background each night in the main bar.
Most of the negative comments were centred on the lack of different a la cartes and lack of entertainment. The positive comments greatly outweighed the negative... the excellent facilities, the quiet atmosphere, the top notch staff and the gorgeous beaches keep many people coming back. Angsana has a devoted following. It definitely is a cut above other inexplicably rated 4.5 star resorts.

Melia Las Dunas: Very Good Resort
The resort has a good layout with easy access in walking distance to everything. Golf carts available for transportation as well. Grounds and public areas nicely kept. Vegetation is amazing and very well maintained. Some cleaning practices in the public areas need improvement as cleaning ladies have to squeeze the mops by hand, which is unaesthetic and unhygienic.
Rooms are good size and furniture still holds up even thou it starts to show its age and wear and tear. Very good bed mattresses, [... read more]a lack of blankets that was resolved upon request. Key cards not always working even after replacement. One key was always working, the second not.
Buffet selection was very good, with fresh food and vegetables every day, a large selection of meats to make on order. The Beer Garden was the favorite for lunch, the buffet for breakfast and dinner. Tried the Pizzeria and while the food was good, some menu items were not available and we ended up at the buffet thereafter.
Wi-fi was extended throughout the entire resort, with signal sometimes stronger on the beach than in the lobby. This was a very nice surprise.
People awesome as ever, very good service, very attentive and personable. From serves, to bar tenders, entertainment crew, room keepers, reception and public services, it was always a pleasure dealing and interacting with them.
Overall a very good resort, highly recommendable.

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Beautiful vacation!
My family and I went to the Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas on January 11-January 21 and we did do VIP. I highly suggest it. In word word I would describe the vacation as fantastic. The resort staff have gone above and beyond our expectations, to accomadate all our needs and wishes. Some highlights of our trip include:
The room: very beautiful, nicely cleaned and always well maintained. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was fantastic!!
The grounds: very well maintained, there we[... read more]re beautiful gardens. The lobby was gorgeous, very spacious and beautifully decorated.
VIP pool: fantastic pool, well maintained, staff working at the bar/snack bar were very friendly and accommodating.
Food: food was quite tasteful, you’re always able to find something you like. Very good for people who enjoy fish. The snack bar had really good pizzas.
Entertainment: staff did a great job with always providing good music and getting people dancing. There was also amazing shows and live bands/singers.
Beach: the beach was beautiful, however my only issues were that there was not a separate section for VIP CLUB. There was a sign with “adults only†however there was no staff to control the amount of kids that did go in the section. Also advertised online it states there is a separate bar for the VIP Club, however. It was empty with no staff.
Overall it was a fantastic vacation and I wouldn’t change it for the world. There are certain staff that made the experience worth wild. This included our lovely house keeper Hislajdi Grivas. Our waiter Rosmay Aranzola (he looks exactly like drake). The bartenders at the VIP pool Reidel, Rodriguez and Martinez. Lastly the lobby bar staff Miskely, Magdiel and Dianelys. They always had a smile on their faces and treated us like family. It was extremely special experience. I would definitely come back to this resort I have already recommended to all my friends. Thank you staff at Grand Aston hope to see you again in near future!!

Valentin Perla Blanca: Amazing Beach!!! Resort a disappointment.
This resort is huge. Looks nice ..but so understaffed. 1st the Good: The beach is AMAZING!! Best beach is in Santa Maria. Water / weather was beautiful. Never went to pool since beach was the place to be. We stayed in building 20. Poolside room. Ice cold a/c great maids there. Privilege booking is worth skipping the line for booking a la carte with the concierge, a la carte breakfast, the premium alcohol in the privilege lounge, free 30 minute massage and a quite tasty Privilege lobster dinner n[... read more]ite. However that was it. Beach privilege section/service @ beach was a joke!! To list the disappointments: check in for priority to privilege non existent. NO WATER after 3am..no communication about this EVER!! Gosh forbid you're sick needing to washroom. 1st hotel to have scolding hot showers. Lack of cold water???? Don't leave your room without a flashlight. Walkway lighting non existent in some areas of resort, someone lost their footing and broke a walkway planter. Whole week we were there ..Never saw grounds keeper to fix/tidy that up. 1st 3 nights the stench of raw sewage overflowing down the walkway on each side of huge resort Not a place to walk barefoot watching carts splash through. 4th day garbage stench. Seeing garbage on the ground the whole week @ theater. Floors were always mopped.. But what about wiping the disgusting railways at theater. Of all resorts this was best theater for space and airflow. More attention to washroom fresh ups/supplies in evening Needed. No bacon all week.. There was always something unavailable. Disappointing to hear @ a la cartes.. Dish unavailable due to it not being ready. Really???? 1 buffet open for such a large resort. Communication about the "renos" seemed to only have been disclosed to certain guests. Had we known we would've NOT stayed. Valentin has great potential however.. Just not enough staff to keep this. Having said all the cons we still stayed the week and never complained. Pretty disappointed @ the resort. Wouldn't wish this experience on anybody.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Was not what I expected
Check-in was very long. Within 2 hours of arriving I fell on a poorly lit walkway and damaged my knee and hands, I fell over what seemed to be supposedly a water fall from the main lobby down to the resort level that was not filled with water or lighting to suggest the hole (trough) was there. They had planters 4 feet apart so it looked like a walk-through, it kind of put a damper on the whole week as I became quite immobile and had to spend the whole week with my feet up at the pool, and [... read more]after telling a few people, not one person had the decency to follow up with me at all to see how I was doing. I didn't really get a chance to explore the resort and had to stick around the one area closest to our building
We were privilege guests, but at the time we checked in after 11 p.m. we had to check in with every one, the line ups were horrendous. Apparently there were 100 rooms being checked in that evening and no line ups for Privilege. We finally got our room and were hungry and had to go to the other side of the resort to the 24 hour snack restaurant and that is when I fell going past the main building. The lighting is sooooo bad, bring flashlights people.
We did not get a chance to use any of our privilege perks as everything was on the other side. the A-la-cartes for Breakfast and lunch and the privilege lounge.
Besides that the food was tasty but very lacking on some items, We did not see any Bacon, Ham or Sausage the entire week we were there. No Toast! No White wine some nights, and many items on the menus. We were at this resort 4 years ago, and I do not remember it being so lacking. It has the potential to be a 5 star, but Management really has to get involved.
We asked for a coffee maker which we got, but could never get any coffee for it, the privilege lounge concierge gave us some ground coffee from the coffee restaurant in a plastic bag, which did last the week, but we never did get any cups which I asked for numerous times. Thank Goodness we brought our own coffee cups. Out of the 7 days we were there, the coffee machine was cleaned only once.
Only exchange money that you need, cause they will make you exchange it back before you leave Cuba
Would I recommend the resort as it sits now? No absolutely not, but maybe I am a little bitter because of my fall and how my vacation was ruined 2 hours in, but if you don't care about not having alot of stock then you should be fine. Hopefully things will resolve themselves.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Amazing resort
We went to Ocean Casa Del Mar as family of four ( 2 adults, 2 kids) and we had 2 separate rooms on 1st floor. We asked for 2 joint rooms and they give us next day on 2nd floor with ocean view, without paying extra money.Very nice of them.We stayed in building #12....very close to the beach, pool, snack bar.It was very convenient for us, specialy if you traveling with kids (5 and 11 years old).Room overly was good except for water around toilet ( they was trying to fix, but was bigger issue and th[... read more]ey need to order some parts), but it was not that big problem and we used towels exchanged daily to keep it dry. My suggestion is to wash decorative pillows and bed covers. Rooms were cleaned daily and also if needed towels were replaced.
Food was good, especially in buffet big variety of food.We eat a lot of fresh cooked fish, mussels, kids enjoyed pancakes and morning time we had omelets. We have eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, really a lot things to chose. Waitress are very friendly.Every one made feel us special. They have good manier.Very friendly stuff and very helpful, even some of them speak only Spanish, but still like to help. We went to two restaurants (Neptun and Origami), food was good, but my suggestion is that if you traveling with kids Buffet is better idea. We also get extra restaurant "Privilege " when I had birthday and we can enjoy cake and I had good stake. Sometimes we have eat on the beach and BBQ chicken was really good and tasty. I have try variety of drinks.Coffy is there very good, specially on lobby level.Every evening was entertainment, so amazing Michael Jackson show. One day we went to kids pool and there were entertainment guys.It was a lot of laughs.During our stay Jan.27-Feb.1st 2020 weather was so amazing and aloud us to enjoy our stay in Ocean Casa Del Mar. I have rented for 3 days scouter and was able to go outside for ride from resort. For additional price is possible to book everyday many excursions ( catamaran, jeap saffari, swim with delphines). Beach is not so far 100-150m, very clean and sand and ocean are amazing. Kids enjoyed beach the most and also pool. Near is also market where I have bought many stuff.
We made new friends and exchanged numbers. I definitely recomend this resort and will be happy to return there next time, this time for 2 weeks.
Day to day cleanliness was good, staff was very friendly. Food was passable, lots of pork, fish and french fries served. Resort needs a lot of structural work and general maintenance. Resort was 1h 45m away from the closest airport.

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Lovely resort
The resort was lovely and mostly the staff are friendly. The guys at the pool bar are fun and entertaining with their bottle and glass tricks. The food was up and down. As most people know when visiting Cuba the food might be iffy. I can usual find something I like. Our biggest complaint is with the advertising of the resort. It tells you there are this many pools and bars for your use. When we arrived we were told that the Jazz Bar was permanently closed. In the advertising it states t[... read more]here is a whirlpool. The whirlpool is in the adult section where you are not permitted to be unless you paid to be there. We are down one pool and two bars. Other then that we had a lovely time and would recommend the resort.

Memories Paraiso: Beautiful Beach!
We had a great time at this resort!
Not only was the beach magazine worthy, with crystal clear blue water and clean white sand, but the pools are spectacular as well. Everything is clean and the gardens are always being maintained by multiple gardeners. The grounds are beautiful! The room, while dated, provided lots of hot water, excellent water pressure and it was always clean.
There was a large variety of food at the buffet and other options if you needed them.
