Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Thumbs up, thumbs down...

Overall stay pleasant and relaxing especially because of spa area. Great service! Missed the clear turquoise water of other areas because the ocean is agitated. Beautiful sand on wide beach absolutely wonderful for long walks. The rooms need a little love and refresher... Entertainment/stage area quite pitiful...

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Decent but problematic

The food was decent and accommodations adequate. The beach is quite amazing! This is a family resort but things are pretty close, so wherever you were near the pool, there were smokers. A bit off putting. The "animación" team was engaging but they also don't seem to be treated very well by hotel management. Hiding to eat food, begging for 5 star reviews, clearly unhappy - they deserve better.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: I would cautiously recommend

We can clearly see that the hotel is being renovated. The grounds are pretty and well kept. ROOMS: The only decent thing about the rooms are the new mattresses. That's where it ends. The AC is very poor. The bathrooms are dark and in need of serious repairs. We had requested an accessible room at time of booking and our agent sent a message a couple days before our arrival regarding the accessible room. They still said they didn't have any. Excellent planning on their part. We finally did get an accessible room....walk in shower was there, no safety bars anywhere. Having to pick your stuff up off the floor because there wasn't a shelf anywhere is also not considered accessible. FOOD: the buffet is fine. The A la cartes are impossible to book. Yes we can book 3 st a time but nothing was available till 9PM. We did manage to get into the steak house and it was good. BEACH: nice walking beach. A nice heavy currant, we enjoyed that. Just lay there and float. The beach chairs are in absolutely terrible shape. They are all broken in one way or another. POOL: Pools are fine. Seriously lacking chairs and umbrellas. If you're not up early to "reserve" chairs you're out of luck. And really, how much would it cost for a dozen or two umbrellas? The shopping street has a bakery...its the same bakery items you get at the buffet. You can also get ice coffees which were great and "fancy" coffee. Theres an ice cream place and pizza place, again the same as you would get in the buffet. EXCURSION: We did a private excursion with RV Tours. It was the best part of our trip. It was a private trip....just our group of 10. They did an amazing job. It was the Blue Lagoon trip. We truly were the only ones on this massive private beach, at the waterfall, at the blue Lagoon. There was absolutely nothing they could have done to make it better.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Friendly staff, great maintenance and hot food

Go to the buffet when it opens to get hot food and to get first pick of the food. Throw a towel on the beach chairs to reserve them. Rooms are dated and it’s generally a smaller resort but everything always frequently maintained: staff trimming bushes, testing pool levels, cleaning, refreshing snacks and water. Really impressed! Loved the water filling stations. Lovely deep tissue massage - make sure you emphasize you purchased a deep one to the therapist if you did buy that service just to be [... read more] sure they don’t give you a regular massage.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Decent vacation

Pros: Beautiful grounds and common areas, plenty of loungers at the beach and pool Cons: The room was in dire need of overhaul, it is dated and dilapidating. Very old noisy AC, hot water was intermittent, non functioning TV for several days. Water leaking from random places in the bathroom. The safe in the room opened and reset itself one day leaving all valuables for display. Nothing was gone but this did cause a fright and distrust. The buffet was redundant but acceptable. Not much luxury  [... read more]here. The restaurants served repurposed buffet food unfortunately. Fun fact: Pangasius fish seemed to have several names at this resort. My wife found this funny, me less so. The beach had quite a bit of seaweed in the sand and water but at tolerable levels.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Great staff

We had a good stay at this resort. However I don't think I would go back. Its like they put together 5 resorts and made it one. Very large, lots of stairs. The room we stayed at was very basic, you would have to upgrade to get a nice one, but it was central and very close to a pool and bar. There was lots of food choice and lots of bars on the resort. To watch the entertainment, you had to take a shuttle to another place. Overall it was good, but I've been to better places for the same price.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Both Relaxing and Fun

small well maintained resort. Adults only was great. Entertainment was great for a smaller resort. Food was very good and and was always easy to find lounge chairs at a resort that was fully booked. We had a great time and would considering returning to this resort. The price was just right. we had no complaints . Staff was friendly and was always someone available for service. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: amazing food, friendly staff, rooms are mediocre

I went to this hotel with my best friend in feb 2020. The food was amazing, the restaurant and bar staff were so friendly and on the ball. There were so many pools to choose from and lots of seating around them. The beach was nice too. The only thing was we had an older room and it had a couple leaks and the AC was really loud and on the verge of breaking and our safe didn’t work, and it was near impossible to get the room issues resolved. We had to track down maintenance people ourselves. The [... read more] other thing to mention that wasn’t an issue for us but it would be helpful to know beforehand is that there are A LOT of stairs. Our room was 7 flights to the lobby. 6 to the restaurant. It wouldn’t be good for someone with accessibility needs.

Playabachata Hotel: Good times

Our group of 18 had a great time! Our room was cleaned daily and beverages are refreshed every other day. There were very few complaints about food even from the fussier eaters. The air conditioning will only work with the patio doors closed! When it rains the little critters and insects will head Inside. We took a can of raid with us and sprayed the floors. The pools close at 6;00 in the evening, earlier than we would have liked. All in all a great time had by all.

Playabachata Hotel: Not Bad,I would go there again.

clean room but terribly mouldy.Good staff.Beach was great but no washroom facilities.Food was good for island food,the salads were always fresh and the buffets were very well displayed.Staff couldn’t speak or understand much english,sometimes hard to get service

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: GIRLS VACATION

We stayed at this resort for 1 week. Upon arrival our room in the adult building was ready. The regular room for the other 2 girls was not ready and they had to wait. Once it was ready they checked into the room and found that the safe was broken, toilet didn't flush and the sink was cracked and leaking. They complained to sunwing and finally were given another room on the 1st floor and were happy with the change. The staff at this resort were very friendly. Resort was very clean. Hung out at the main pool everyday and the only complaint about this was that there were never enough lounge chairs, you had to get their by 8 am to get a lounge chair. The buffet was always good, a great variety and service was good. Booked a steak and lobster dinner at the beach was very good. Tried to book at the Italian restaurant and reservations are not taken so you had to get there by 5:45 in order to get in. Food was very good, as the 4 of us did not know about the wine or drinks we ended up having to pay for a bottle of wine so that we could have wine with our dinner which was very disappointing so needless to say we did not go to the Mexican or Dominican restaurants. For the entertainment there really wasn't much at night to do just sit around the tiki bar and make your own fun. The resort needs more entertainment at night for all and not just a disco for the young crowd.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: I heard it was great!!!!

Well i had the unfortunate experience of having my passport stolen the day before my trip and only realized at the airport trying to book ...wow what a nightmare !! But my friends went without me and they all loved it and would all return ....so i guess i would return also ....but hopefully with more luck .... Thanks

Playabachata Hotel: Excellent time

From the time my two brothers and I set foot on the plane we had an amazing time. Travel went well, the resort was amazing (excellent staff, facilities, and location). One of the top resorts I have been. Bravo Zulu to all staff who made this a wonderful vacation. I can not wait to return to this resort next year.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Average resort

Rooms clean. Needed an update. Bed too hard. Buffet okay but a la carte could be better. No table service for drinks. Needed to get up early for good spots at beach and pool. Too many venders at beach. Even bus driver asking for tips.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Cofresi Palm

We enjoyed our stay at Cofresi. The food was excellent, yet our friends who we vacationed with went home with diarrhea. The resort is great for families and young people, but would be a challenge for the elderly, due to many stairs and uneven surfaces. The water in our room was quite unusual, we had hot water in the toilet, but only cold water in the shower. The water situation differed by the day - too hot one day, no heat the next. But sitting on a hot toiled was a bit of a nice surprise Two  [... read more]of our nights were cut short due to loud, drunk, hotel patrons. There doesn't seem to be any security to manage unruly guests, so the yelling went on for over an hour. It did ruin our sleep, and it is a key reason that we are not keen on returning. We loved Puerto Plata, the trip there was excellent. The beach at Cofresi was not very inviting, steep, and not very accessible.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: This was a superb place .

I have been traveling to the Dominican for over 15 years and did about every resort . The Be live Hotel in Puerto Plata was the first one that I can say live up to there standards . You are welcome with great service , the food is great the servers are polite and very friendly. They have on site like all other resorts people trying to sell you time shares , BUT I CAN SAY this one they do not harrasse you for the service . The pool is very large and not over crowded like other resorts. I would recommend for adults or family to go to this one. 5 star in my books.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Beautiful resort!

Just got back from a one week vacation at Be Live Collection Marien, Puerto Plata. Had a wonderful time. I was so impressed with the well-kept grounds. Cheers to the grounds keepers who worked hard at raking up leaves, washing the floors and walks around the pools, keeping the beach free of any seaweed/garbage. It was a beautiful resort. Serving staff and what appeared to be all locals working at the resort were friendly, full of smiles and quick to greet with "Hola". Two bars included a pool bar and one that overlooked the beach. Endless supply of loungers. For being reading week, I never had to stand in long line ups, towels and loungers were always available. After taking a stroll along the endless beach, past many other resorts, hands down, this resort had the best beach. The ocean floor was sandy and able to walk quite a ways out without fear of it dropping off. I was very surprised that there weren't any peddlers on the beach so had no fear of being pestered. There were some time share personnel that stood close to the buffet but with a very simple No Thank you, they left you alone. If there was one thing I thought could have been improved upon was the cleanliness of the rooms. Bathrooms could provide conditioner, a better swept floor, and perhaps one more towel. Overall I would love to return.

Playabachata Hotel: Good Resort for Price

Playabachata hotel is a good resort for the price! The beach is definitely the best part- the sand and water were beautiful, and the scenery with the palm trees and the mountains was gorgeous! The staff were generally very friendly.The entertainment during the day was not too exciting, but the nighttime entertainment was pretty enjoyable! Drinks were good, but food was not the best. The buffet generally had the same food daily, and was poorly labelled (i.e. all type of fish was labelled just  [... read more]“fish”). so overall not very happy with the food. Was also not happy with the al-l.a.-carte dinner options. A great thing about the hotel was that staying at one resort (Playabachata 1, 2 or Senator) allowed you access to the beach of all 3 and some amenities for each. The shops were also great, with a coffee shop, gift stores, pizza bar and more. The hotel as a whole was enjoyable for a relaxing vacation with a nice beach. while we didn’t have any specific problems, the property itself was average/fair for the price for the most part.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Lacking!

Weather was great but there wasn’t enough chairs, staff, dishes, pool umbrellas for the amount of people. Pool had big chunks coming off of it. Whether you tipped or not it didn’t matter. Food was ok but the same buffet every day.
