The hotel was clean and comfortable. Rooms need some updating and any issues we encountered which were minor were taken care of quickly. Food was delicious overall. Having dinner reservations at the al la carte restaurants would have been helpful. Pools are clean and beautiful. Beach is quite large but water is weedy but still great to swim in. All employees at the hotel were wonderful and so helpful. Good job Riu Hotels!!

Riu Negril: Great resort
It's more for family. Must say they look after the sanitizing and cleaning resort very clean. It must definitely is Not 5* if that's what you want. Some staff very friendly others not so if you don't tip ever single time you go to bar you may get mean looks (Beach Bar) just found the moral low and I understand the stress of last 2 yrs. Oh don't expect coffee in room everyday not gonna happen unless you keep asking for it

Riu Palace Pacifico: Best Resort Yet
As a seasoned resort guest and frequent traveler to Mexico I can honestly say this was by far the best resort we have ever stayed in. I didn't think there would be much difference between a 4.5 star and a 5 but there was.
First off the food was amazing. Absolutely amazing. Don't bother with the A La Carts and stick to the buffet which changes themes every night. You could live on seafood alone there is so much of it. Fruits were so fresh and all the other dishes were great. Our only dis[... read more]appointment was the Steak house where the cut of steak was horrible but that is to be expected in Mexico.
Service in the buffet was to the highest standards with Janet in the morning/lunch and Lucerra at dinner. I wish we had servers like this in Canada. Most of the bar service was very quick and even with the hotel at full capacity you could easily get to a bar to order a drink and there were plenty of chairs around the pool. Only top shelf alcohol served, even in the fruity slush drinks. Ventured down to the Vallarta and they had to go behind a door to pour my Jim Beam.
As per usual towel hogs were out early reserving chairs with the irony of the fact that they don't show up till after noon. Really sad. Wish one hotel would stop this and I would be a committed patron for life.
Trips to Bucerias were quick and cost 100 pesos. We rode the horses on the beach down there once and that was 500 pesos each. Great trip. Le Negra in Bucerias was really nice for dinner. Expensive but nice. Recommend reservations
Can't go wrong with the Palace.

Riu Republica: Stunning!
Riu Republica was hands down the cleanest, most accommodating and fun resort we’ve ever been to! The resort was spotless, even the communal toilet facilities were sparkling clean. The staff was incredibly friendly and always wearing masks. Lots of activities available with the smiling staff leading the way. Food was great and not a single person in our group got the tropical food sickness! The room was clean and comfortable, and the cleaning staff was prompt and did an amazing job! The pools w[... read more]ere clean and warm. No negative things to say about this resort!

Riu Flamingos: One of our favorites
This was our 3rd time at the Riu Jalisco. It is time for a refresh but still a grand hotel. We had some specific requests, like a room facing the courtyard, and they were well met. The hotel was clean and the staff was always friendly. The grounds are well kept and the pools and beach areas are well maintained. Our 4th floor room overlooked the nightly entertainment. The entertainment was popular and well attended. The poolside activities included daily exercise and water volleyball. The foam pa[... read more]rty was big hit. Lots of lounges were available and as usual, early birds get prime locations. More seating at the beach. Easter week was busy so there were lines for drinks, but no huge problems.
The food in the buffet was well presented, with many choices for picky eaters. The a-la-carte restaurants were popular with 15 minute line ups most nights. We preferred the Italian for selection and portion control.
Over all it feels like his hotel is recovering from Covid restrictions. Masks were optional and rarely seen on guests. Every staff member continues to wear a mask.
Our over all review is that this is a great place to enjoy the Mexican sunshine.

Riu Palace Bavaro: Should be 3 star
I would not recommend this resort.
It should be 3 star at best.
Very outdated. Beds are terrible. I didn't sleep for a week.
Needs an entire update.
If you can book the Riu Punta Cana would be a better resort for the same price. We were supposed to be in the Riu Punta Cana but our terrible agents at Tripcentral stuck us in the Bavaro and then would not answer or return phone calls!!!!!! Never deal with trip central again. I travel every year and they were the worst customer service I have ev[... read more]er experienced!! Good thing I didn't have to get ahold of them for anything really important. They only take your money then never take your calls.
Although the hotel is dated and the booking company sucks there were lots of good things.
Staff at hotel was amazing.
Food was amazing.
Beach was amazing.
Very clean.

Riu Guanacaste: Great vacation
Having read the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect, the hotel is dated but the rooms are clean, the food was good, the beer was cold, and our group had a great time. We did hear they are going to start renovations on this resort and it will be better than the palace next door, they have room to put another pool in which is needed. I did know going the beach/ocean was not going to be a spot I would normally go into and hang out at so no disappointment there. If you want a beach and a blue ocean[... read more] this is not your spot, if you want a party atmosphere this is not your place. Costa Rica is beautiful and we were lucky enough to feed the monkeys and see many sloths on our day trip. We booked our day trip with Jose on the beach it was fantastic, I had read in a review to book with him Jose in the pink shirt, great advice!

Riu Guanacaste: Great Resort!
The Resort was absolutely beautiful. Easy walking and easy to navigate for its size.
The rooms were clean and the fridge was restocked every other day. (bathtubs are very tricky to get out of)
We had no problems what so ever finding food to our liking and there was plenty of it.
The only negatives on the food was the a la cartes...only open from 6-8 and you can't make reservations which made it almost impossible to get into. If you are at the pool until it closes at 6...up to shower and cha[... read more]nge and by the time you come down, you can't get in. Other resorts are usually open until 9and have 2-3 set seating times.
The beach was beautiful but it was way to hot to be down there as there were no trees for shade or straw huts ...usually they are all up and down the beach for you to put your chairs under. Any trees that were down there were snatched up by the vendors selling their wares...they should be reserved for the guests.
The pools were beautiful and clean and the staff at the swim up bar were stellar...in and out very quickly.
Would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat.

Riu Playa Blanca: Nice Resort
The Riu Playa Blanca is a nice resort for the price. The food served in the buffet as well as the a la cart restaurants was pretty good with lots of variety. The resort was very clean and tidy. The pool washrooms had attendant's stationed there all day so they were always clean.
Panama is a non smoking country so you can only smoke in designated areas.
The beach was nice and clean but we could not swim in the ocean because of jellyfish.
Would not rush back but overall not bad.

Riu Dunamar: Could have been good....
The resort was Fully booked and from pool chairs to food services the hotel was not able to handle the amount of people in the resort. We have been to many RIU's and this is not what we were expecting. School breaks in the US and Britain had the resort crowded with families. Set our alarm at 630am to get a beach chair otherwise you were out of luck, as they literally could not find another chair for you! Empty serving dishes everywhere at the buffet for both breakfast and lunch every day for[... read more] 5 days until the crowds diminished. Waiting 2 hours in line for a la cartes then another 2 hours to be served - terrible. Employees are amazing, they worked hard in every aspect of service but just not enough of them for the amount of people in the resort. Clean, followed COVID precautions, great facility. Just wished we had picked a different week, for the money we spent it was a great disappointment!! Based on our experience the week of 2-9 April, 2022 I would not recommend as you are not getting full services you paid good money for...We are very seasoned travellers, at least twice a year to Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Caribbean every year for 20 years........

Riu Santa Fe: Zero stars
I would like to let you know about the experience my husband and I had at your hotel this past week. I realize in life things happen; however, a few things are a definite deal breaker when it comes to vacationing.
Right from the start of our check in things did not go well. We were literally given the wrong room-the names on the envelope were not ours. I had even downloaded the app and checked in prior. We went back and questioned it and were immediately dismissed being told it was a sup[... read more]erior room and they couldn't down grade us, my sister in law had found out we were in building 7 (she was already there ) and this was building 8. We were also told there was no Kingsize beds in building 7 so we had to stay in building 8. (Obviously a total lie ) We stayed that night and went back the next day as we knew it wasn't what we booked. After a very long wait and total confusion from the front desk as she couldn't find us under that room number it was confirmed it wasn't our room and handed us the right envelope with our name on it wasting more of our precious vacationing time as again your lines are long . Went to the next room (3 rooms in total we had to change- the only positive thing was that in the 3rd room there was hot water- none in the previous rooms ) nothing worked, safe, telephone nothing stocked in our fridge/alcohol we were told the room was ready and there was literally a maintenance man in the ceiling upon arrival.
Waited 2 hours for someone to come, which they never did and once again, we went back and put in a formal complaint. Manuel Romero addressed our concerns and really did a fantastic job listening to our concerns. His professionalism and follow through was impressive. He even came and found us a few times poolside. He upgraded us to a ocean view room and sent us a bottle of champagne. Unfortunately, this was not the end of the issues. There is a terrible breakdown in communication at your resort. Every time we asked a question the answer was different or staff was just in general rude. I went to ask a question the night before we left about what time the bus was picking us up. I did not realize we were to go to a Sunwing rep and I spoke with Lupida at the front desk she was not only rude but very disrespectful to my sister in law and I. I understand that we as travelers have some responsibilities to find information, however we weren't told to go find them. At most hotels they have a departure book with times in it. My mistake for thinking that was how It worked at your resort as this is my first experience at a Riu.
The lineups for everything on your resort is unacceptable, drinks, taco stand, front desk etc. My biggest area of concern is the food . At the pasta restaurant I literally found moldy pizza buns (I took a picture) I pointed it out to the staff and they did remove only two of the buns-I asked him to throw all of them out - mold when airborne spreads like dandelion lion seeds , he refused, not sure if your aware but mold on food can cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems in the right conditions just for starters , look up mycotoxins . A lot of food was over cooked, sausages so discusting they looked like they had been left out for days- we took a picture , bacon , Burnt hot dogs and hamburgers -why would you even put this out? Also, undercooked potatoes , very spoiled fruit, lettuce etc. The fish and seafood did not smell right or taste right I tried it upon arrival and immediately spit it out. I avoided most of the meat presented and ate rice and vegetables for the week or we ate off resort. My question to your establishment is do you have food safety regulations? Someone is going to get very sick if this continues. The food was consistently cold no matter where you ate, or stale. There is hot/cold holding regulations. Meat Should be constantly temped. Honestly you can do better! This is not a place I would ever come back to or visit a different Riu.
Also what's up with the WiFi? Always down or went in and out. Just a really bad experience I will not recommend. Zero stars. Absolutely discusted and disappointed. I'm wondering if this should go to social media. M&L Dunn

Riu Guanacaste: It was a beautiful resory
We stayed there from April 2 -9
Staff were very accommodating and very friendly. We would like to give a special thank you to Bryan and Kevin for their assistance in making our stay great. Our only issue was with Sunwing we will never fly with them again. They took 26 pieces of luggage off the inbound flight. My wife was without clothes for 2 days.

Riu Palace Punta Cana: Amazing Resort
This resort exceeded our expectations. Although large, the layout is well thought out and all the restaurants, stages and live music were in the same area which made it more social. The beach was wide with ample chairs and numerous palm trees for shade. We’ve been to a lot of beaches and this was the best! The water is a bit rough along this stretch but still turquoise and easy to swim in with no coral. They cleaned up the seaweed every morning. You could walk for miles in both direction[... read more]s. Entertainment was ok, some very good. Would have liked to have more music and dancing at night and not so much ‘dead’ time after dinner when people are waiting for live music or even a DJ. Would definitely go back again.

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Good Hotel for Families
There are some things that didn't suit us at this resort perhaps largely due to the huge surge in occupancy. It is on a windy stretch and the ocean water is very turbulent most of the time. And contrary to what most people have reported ...there is sargassum in the water and on shore. Not as bad as further down the coast but there none the less. The breeze off shore by the water is either something you like or not. Because most people would not use the beach, the pools were jammed from 10:00 til [... read more]6:00 pm. No peace and quiet at all. The boom boom music from the pool bars is non stop accompanied by lots of screaming partiers. There was no quiet area that we could find. The resort is a beautiful property and extremely well maintained. All areas were clean. The staff is amazing and service was great in all venues. That's quite an achievement given the place was at max capacity. Top shelf booze is available and drinks are good. Maid service is spot on and the mini bar was always replenished. The coffee bar was a favourite in the morning and mid afternoon. The piano bar's acoustics are terrible. So when occupied in the evening it's impossible to converse and is like being in an echo chamber. The same applies to the halls at night ... sound bounces and gets amplified. You will hear the theatre show in your room until it ends. The food was good. Lots of choice. A lot of people appear to never have seen food before LOL. Can't say it was exceptional but it was all fresh and plentiful. Good for an AI. If you enjoy fish and seafood you will find it quite satisfying. They have Indio beer and it was a treat with meals. Overall we think your experience will improve when capacity isn't at peak anymore. BTW the airport experience is actually worse than it's ever been , especially on return to Canada.

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Riu in March 2022
This is a lovely hotel with excellent service. The staff are friendly and wore masks at all times. Sanitizer was available every time you went to buffet. Check in was easy but we did find it difficult to find our rooms. When we saw a Riu employee, he was kind enough to take us right to our room.
The room itself was very musty smelling, especially the drawers. However, the following day after the maids were in, it no longer smelled musty - had a very fresh smell like the main lobby.
Ou[... read more]r only disappointment was the beach - so much seaweed. It was very, very windy with strong waves so we were unable to go in the water as we normally would. This of course is not the fault of the hotel. The drink staff on the beach were really good.

Riu Palace Macao: Lovely resort
The resort is up and running again. The staff are working diligently to impress their guests with amazing meals and impeccably kept rooms and gardens.
Service was great except for the daily bar cart room service which was very hit and miss.
