Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: home for us is at club amigo!!much improved!

cudos to new manager george! he has renovated and improved lobby bar and also the santa maria snack bar! there seems to be much more maintenance work in progress than in previous years. overall a much needed face lift seems to be taking place! rooms e xcellent maid service and all staff very helpful. reception could perhaps be the one area lacking. it would be nice to be greeted with a friendly smile as opposed to a frown.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Good vacation

The resort is old and didn't have amenities like a 5 star. But if you like sun and beach then it's great. The villa side is definitely the way to go. The people who work there are very nice. Bring your own ketchup, and jams . The beer, wine and coffee are great, way better than Jamaica or Mexico. I would definitely go back if the price is right. Just don't have high expectations. The late night grill bar was terrible and the 24 hr bar ran out of beer. Just go with the Cuban flow....

Playa Costa Verde: Amazing Resort

Had the best time at this resort. Food was good and the staff were also friendly. Beach was amazing too. Can't wait to go back and visit my Cuban friends. The weather wasn't the best but we can only blame Mother Nature for that. Highly recommend taking some local tours and see the Cuban culture.

Don Lino Hotel: small good resor don lino holgin

everything is close buy food Is very good accommodation look good with small bungalow but we didn't have we got small wood building ground floor not good it was smell from sure we have not been lacky to get beter one weather was warm and 2 days raining we enjoyed weather we saw some small dogs and we feed them every day poor little dogy no owners and made picture with them beach was o kay but couldn't go in water of rocky stones.

Playa Pesquero: It's a hit ... and a miss.

This is the largest hotel in Holguin province and it shows all the possibilities of that. The pools are beautiful and well kept, the beach is groomed and well attended. There are many bars, restaurants and club areas. Mostly, you are served by friendly staff in a fairly timely manner. We were there when the hotel was less than half full so there were areas that were not open or only half open. If this was high season I could imagine the difference, the place would be swarming with people and con [... read more]stantly busy. If that is what you like, then by all means you should try it out. Personally, I would have my doubts, and here is my reasoning: There were misses that would multiply along with the hits, and those would be annoying. You can always find something to eat at the buffet, but what would be missing that was there yesterday? The orange juice? The potatoes? How long is that line at the grill this morning? How long to get a coffee? Are they going to overcook my lobster again - the last three times was enough! Where am I going to find a spot on the beach if I get there a little later today? Bigger is not always better. So ask yourself, if you like all the amenities, and you like larger crowds, can you take the misses along with the hits? It's a beautiful resort, but it's not for everyone.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Paradisus Rio De Oro

Very well maintained property, friendly staff, spacious and clean rooms, although somewhat dated. The hotel is situated on a large property, a lot of trees between the two storey buildings, numerous shaded areas to get away from the noise and relax with a book in hand. We would highly recommend the a la carte restaurants, the food is well prepared and exquisitely presented. Excellent experience!

Brisas Guardalavaca: Wonderful people!

The resort is celebrating 25 years in business. That being said, the resort and rooms are kept clean and tidy. It's showing its age though. The lawns could use cutting more and the beaches cleaned up but it is Cuba. The staff were generally friendly and housekeeping staff I can't say enough good about them. Great time there.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great resort!!

The food was good, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Easy access to a beautiful beach. The pools are nice as well, with the exception a few missing tiles in one of the pools. I would assume the repairs will be done in the slow season. Anything that wasn't working was very quickly addressed and repaired. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!!

Playa Costa Verde: Consistantly Good!

Consistantly doing its best no matter what Cuba throws at it!. Always maintaining , improving this resort sets the standard . Friendly efficient service always. I am a many time returnee because of this!

Iberostar Selection Holguin: Very nice resort

Iberostar resort was very nice and well kept. The staff goes out of your way to make your stay exceptional. We had a good time with our friends and had some great à la carte meals. We would definitely consider going back next year.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Good resort, may be better when fully open

Being mid November, not everything was open, so there was a LOT of walking; this resort really sprawls across a large area and everything seemed to feel like it was uphill for some reason. The staff were amazing, as always, and do their best. There were some shortages but we made do. The beach is absolutely beautiful and the food was quite good. Brisas Guardalavaca: Nice Resort

We were able to upgrade to a Vila at Brisas. We enjoyed a large suite with a ocean view. The weather was nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Everyone from the grounds keepers, servers, house keeping to the front desk were very pleasant. I spent almost everyday playing tennis with Alex, the Tennis pro. I am a Pickleball player so the bigger area and racket were a challenge. Good coaching Alex! We went with several family members. We enjoyed the entertainment and the a la carte  [... read more]restaurants. I would recommend a vacation at Brisas to anyone that likes to have a restful trouble free holiday. Many of the staff gave us farewell kisses on the way out of the hotel. We felt welcome and cherished.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Nice place to vacation for families with kids

I had some problems with TV signal but Jorge from Public Relations was able to resolve the problem quickly. Room was very clean except a bit far from the cafeteria especially for a senior citizen to walk. Cafeteria had a good selection of food and bars well stocked.

Don Lino Hotel: Enjoyed our Stay.

Very rural location. A true Cuban experience, nice beach but rocky, rough seas our week, very remote, older lower 1-2 level hotel with some recent upgrades. A variety of building structures. A 24 hour Beach bar/coffee bar with large covered seating area and snack bar right on the beach, always a breeze, the best place to sit. Ok food at the snack bar (forCuba). The staff held a Halloween dinner for all the guests and made a expansive "over the top" effort with a variety of food and desserts  [... read more]next to the beach bar. Halloween decorations, staff wore costumes, live Cuban music and later a local Cuban rock bank that played classic rock (decent effort and we enjoyed them). Buffet was ok by me, large air conditioned wooden building, great serving staff. Beer, wine with lunch and dinner. Limited selection of fruits and vegetables. decent deserts, ice cream a couple of nights. Good breakfast with bacon most days. Lunch and dinner could be up to 3 meat choices chicken, beef (roasted, beef liver, beef tongue all good for Cuba), pork, fish. Pasta allways. Best squash/pumpkin, good typical beans and rice. Lots of choice in my opinion. A la carte was a bit disappointing but once again the staff made an extra effort to please with a outside BBQ and seating and attentive service. Front desk staff always there and willing to help. Very honest, left my wallet on the front desk and when I went back to ask if it was there it was returned to me untouched. Great alcohol/coffee bar (no beer) in the lobby. Another great place to sit. Money exchange at the front desk was a problem for the first couple of days with only 10's and 20 CUCs when it came making it tough to tip. Also there was no bottled water available but you could fill your container with filtered water at either the beach bar, lobby bar or the buffet so take a refillable bottle Grounds were a bit overgrown when we arrived but an effort was being make cutting grass, trimming bushes and borders. The grounds were in pretty good shape when we left. Pool was not the best some days but a constant effort as made to clean, vacuum and chorinate. Decent Pina Coladas at the small bar next to the pool. Cold draft beer there as well. Bicycles (5) with basket a bit tired and in need of replacement or repair. But of the three that we made use of on different days got us to where we wanted to go. Cleaning staff always out doing their best. Maids friendly and always a artistic towel sculpture left on the bed. Good ac and lots of hot water in our room, some rooms apparently did not. Took a horse and buggy ride in to Santa Lucia/Rafael Freyre 8km away, 15 cuc return with a city tour (Mechi, young guy, spoke english), train station, abandoned sugar factory, central square etc. etc. Viewed but did not eat at a couple of restaurants. Yeni's and El Tulipan looked nice inside. Yeni's was recommended. The local beach (Playa Blanca) and small fishing harbour for small local boats approx 2km away (20-30 minute walk) was worth a look. Had a excellent whole grilled fish (snapper?) dinner with rice and beans (best I have ever had), french fries, cucumbers and a side plate of a potato like vegetable (cassava maybe), more sliced cucumber and more french fries for 2 cuc, with a beer (canned ice cold Crystal) add1.25 cuc. This as very small shack with a covered sitting area very, very, very basic. Located right turn at the end of the main road towards the beach approx 200 yards to the right. Very local. In all a good vacation, good value and definitely not fancy in any way. If you want deluxe, luxury or fancy this place is not for you. If you want the real Cuba give it a try.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Some good some terrible

The beach was fantastic. Main pool was closed and half the snack bar pool was closed as well. Main pool reopened the last day there. My room was good. Comfortable enough bed, lots of hot water and AC was great. I know you don't go to Cuba for the food but only had one buffet open and the food there was atrocious. Bacon was raw, ate from buffet twice and within half hour both times had to run to the bathroom. Because the buffet food was so bad snack bar had a huge line up almost all the ti [... read more]me. Ran out of Cola twice and had to pay $1.10CUC for Coca Cola. No bottled water in rooms and had to pay for it. Beach towel exchange would run out of clean towels within minutes every day. Told can't pay for extra time on check out day until that morning and that morning told "not possible" to stay in room because it was all ready booked and he just walked away from me. Very unprofessional. When I told them that was unacceptable staff person was quite rude about it and I informed them that my paperwork says I can and Sunwing rep told me it wouldn't be a problem it got shall we say heated. I informed them that this is their problem and not mine. You don't want to inconvenience the new people coming in but have no problem inconveniencing me and that is unacceptable. I told them I will be staying in the room until 4 o'clock like my paperwork says I can and if they want me to leave they had better send more than one security guard to remove me because I won't leaving easily. They finally gave in, I paid my $20CUC and at 4 o'clock I signed out. Never will I stay at this resort again. I would barely give my experience there 2 stars

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful setting

The hotel’s setting is secluded and natural with a good beach and coral reefs nearby. Just want we wanted. You need to remember this is Cuba and there are shortages on some items. However it does not make sense that calamari at the beach restaurant has a 90% chance of not being available. Also out of the three bars around the pool/ beach area you are lucky if only one has fresh mint to make a mojito. This should be easy local fixes. All you can do is have a chuckle, lay back, be patient and enjoy. If you like to spice up the menu bring your own hot sauce is a good idea and we came prepared.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Disappointment

Well where do I start? First off my daughter's luggage didn't arrive with us, no clothes or medications! Flight was delayed, got in about 11:45 at night, and they stuck us in a room on the second floor as far away as possible. When booking I told them I couldn't do stairs well, and needed to be close to amenities due to medical issues. They did however change our room the next afternoon, which was better and on ground floor. Still no luggage, spent the day walking beyond my capabilities trying [... read more] to find the pharmacy for my daughter's medications. 3 different staff sent us in wrong directions, in doing so this cripple me up for almost three days! Finally got to the pharmacy which is about a half mile from the main building, to be told they didn't have 35 dollars change for fifty pesos. Went back to main lobby, sunwing rep said the luggage would be there in a 1/2 an hour, so we thought to wait instead of finding change for they pharmacy. But no money exchange at hotel. 2 hrs later still no luggage, told should be soon, finally came at 6:30 pm. Whole day lost! Do next we find out the main swim up pool bar was closed, which I told the trip central person this was first priority, for my daughter had never flown or been to cuba before, and this was a requirement! I would think this information would be known before booking a resort! On top of that a good portion of the resort wasn't open, 8 of the 11 restaurants were closed and no nightly entertainment! Although they had a karioki night and a beach party night, that was it! Even the beach bar was closed except for beach party night. Now for the food! I know not to expect wonderful food in cuba, but...no fruit or vegetables except for canned peas and carrots, no sliced meats, or cheese to be found, not much of anything! 4th day in my daughter now got violently I'll from something, another day lost! For the grounds, they were very unkept 2 1/2 foot long grass, which they did start cutting on our second last day, not all of it was long, most main areas were cut. Some of the buildings and walls ; walkways were crumbling, really tired old lady! Could be beautiful but... The beach was on the other hand was nice, different areas to go to. I do understand there are shortages in cuba right now, and I'm by no means a prude , but... when talking with other people from other resorts, this crisis was not comparable! They were quite pleased! So all in all ,we tried to make the best of it, it was warm and sunny most of the time, which was good! But I would not return nor recommend this resort!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Great time

This was our 3rd time returning to this resort and it was as wonderful as always. The staff can’t do enough for you, the restaurants and buffet were very good, wide verity cuisine. Although our suite was nice and freshly renovated the resort didn’t meet our request for room location on the resort and bed type which was made when we booked at the travel agent. The wasn’t as nice as it has been in the past due to storms the past season.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: A place worth coming back to

A place worth coming back to. We have been to this resort many times and we have many great memories. Yes, one could compare it to very modern looking, multi story resorts sitting on top of beaches with picture perfect white sand. One has to look beyond the food we eat, the size of the rooms or the paint on the walls. One has to look at how we relax and if we were satisfied at the end of our stay. I have to admit that this hotel offers that perfect getaway nestled in nature, with many fine peop [... read more]le around you, both employees and guests. The food and service are great. Most of the people that we met this time around were repeat customers, and that says something very special about the resort. It’s worth the experience.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Horrible experience!

Gorgeous beach, creepy men working there who will sexually harass/assault you. Beautiful spacious pools with locals having sex in them. Horrible food which by our 5th day they ran out. Workers constantly served tap water when asked for bottled. Poor service. Prostitution all over the resort. Overall a horrible experience would not re visit or recommend.
