Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Excellent price for service you get.
Food is good as is room service. Spa excellent but expensive. They would get more people if they would decrease the price by 30%. Trolley service to the beach is awful!! 2 will come 5 mins apart and then none for 20 mins. During the afternoon beach rush around 4:30 they put a small 8 person trolley and at 7pm they put a 16 person trolley, it should be the other way around. Timing of the trolleys to the other hotels is the same. A La Carte at Sian Ka'an excellent as is the service. Kudos to Edgar[... read more] and Silverio. Maid service also excellent. Night shows are pretty well the same ones for the last 3-4 years, time to change? Rock and crooner good and women mariachi band excellent, circus ok and the rest hit and miss. Lobster night is a joke. Only the upper part of the lobster which is emptied, seasoned and refilled into the shell, no lobster tail available. Good choice of deserts, chesses, fruits, cold cuts, sushi, and bread. Front desk staff very professional, ready to help you with your problems if any. Penthouse was nice and clean upon our arrival. When it rained hard water would come through the window and go underneath the bed and the shower would have a hard time to drain properly, so your feet would be in dirty water. Told the floor manger Mr. Vasquez about this and I have no doubt be the time You read this review it will be fixed.

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Experience Real Mexico
I travelled solo during the second week of Oct/25 to Hyatt Vivid PDC. It was my first time in PDC - the drive from the airport is certainly worth it if you want to be steps away from 5th avenue and some really great food from what I've heard. I myself stayed on the resort, which was nice and gave very much Spanish vibes. Loved the hot tub in the room as well as the room service as it was nice to not have to go to dinner or to get breakfast. The food itself wasn't top tier, but it was alright - I[... read more] found things that I enjoyed and sticked with them (quesadillas and shrimp cocktail). This resort certainly isn't great for beach lovers as there's only about a couple feel of beach before the ocean. I wish there were more shade at the pool! All of the chairs had sun blockers attached and there were some umbrellas, but everyone struggled to find shade and the resort was no where near capacity. Jose at the pool was always prompt to come around every 15 mins or so to ask for drink orders. He was super appreciative of tips and recognized me, which was nice.
I always find it interesting to see how solo travellers are treated - this trip I felt a little ignored, no welcome drink, was told to find my room on my own and my bag would be brought to me, delay on being served at restaurants, but in all, service was good and there were no issues.
Private transportation was great. I felt 100% safe as a woman travelling alone and enjoyed my trip!

Riu Vallarta: Met my expectations
My daughter and I loved the easy and layout of the resort. The ocean view balcony room was not even am upgrade I chose but it was a lovely surprise. The beach was well maintained and felt safe in and around the hotel. I do prefer more fluid pools vs blocky choppy separated pools but this is my preference and the gym was a bit small to accommodate but I was happy it was functional. The staff were always warm and accommodating. Drinks were inconsistent I find but that is to be expected most places[... read more] in my experience. The food was great, no complaints really. the buffet was always fresh and restocked and had enough variety for us to enjoy and find some of our favorites. The Riu hotels are usually quite good, I would recommend.

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: There is a chance that it will meet your expectations
The resort itself is beautiful and clean and our room was really nice and spacious.
It is only advertised as all-inclusive resort but the number of things you need to pay extra for is ridiculous.
If you want to have some shade, you need to pay for cabana ($200 per day). If no, there are no even umbrellas. Not what you expect from a high end resort (at least, that's how they are positioning themselves).
It is advertised that this resort has 7 restaurants. The reality is disappointing. To eat[... read more] in one of them (Chef's plate) you will have to pay extra. The buffet is not open for dinner at all. Pelicanos was closed due to renovations. So, basically all of the time you have two restaurant open. The best one is Asiana, all others are mediocre. Food is greasy and smells burnt oil. During lunch time food is warm at best. All the time restaurant's manager tries to sell you something like themed dinner. I need to admit that Aromas (coffee shop) is amazing and ladies there are very friendly and nice. Loved this place! They tell that Dolma is a top choice restaurant but they serve they street food pretending it is something special.
Right during checking in we were suggested to pay for room upgrade ($60 USD per night) to have ocean view. Not the room that facing directly to the ocean but the building a little bit closer to the ocean and to see it you will have still to go to the balcony and look to the right (or left depending on the room location) to see it. Not worth it. After that we made one and only offer to book day at the spa for $250 (including massage) for two people. I do not know if they fully understand how marketing works but for me to buy it, it should be cheaper than at home. Otherwise, I will go to the place and the therapist I am 100% sure in.
No small toiletries (like Q-tips or cotton rounds) in the bathroom.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Absolutely love this resort!
This is my fourth or fifth time coming to this resort, and I have nothing but amazing things to say about it. From the rooms to the actual hotel itself, is amazing. All of the staff were super friendly and very helpful, Including staff in the background. such as groundskeepers and maids, Every morning they’d say good morning or hello, even if they were in the middle of something. The rooms and hotel area were always kept in immaculate condition, Never dirty always clean! If it rained waiters and[... read more] waitresses were out wiping down all the chairs and tables so that you could sit down outside. Tables in the buffet were always clean and staff were very attentive. Both check-in and checkout were super easy, no fuss no muss and we were able to get settled in our room within half an hour of being at the resort. The pool area was always clean and well supervised, the entertainment Staff were amazing. This resort has so many things for you to do with your family or as a solo person. Whether it be around the pool or in the theater, if you have kids, they will never get bored. I have nothing but amazing things to say and I recommend this resort 100%.

this resort is amazing with lush gardens, best food ever and service to match. most a-la-carts require no reservations. The arrival at cancun was event full as we were stopped at customs with having half a pack of cig over our combined limit and it cost us $99 can . BEWARE. The staff was amazing, the food was amazing, the room upgrade we received was amazing. Ocean Riviera Paradise: Overall would love to return.
Pros:
- Pool on the beach with the beach bar, smoothie bar, and restaurant.
- Kids area with a waterpark, so most of the other pools are child-free and relaxing.
- Large pools / multiple pools for lots of options.
- Easily walkable resort, taking 10-15 mins to get to each end.
- Security takes their job seriously and cross-references pick-ups with room numbers and reservations.
- Booking dinners and other activities through the app / on your phone was easy.
- Lots of dining options, but [... read more]be warned, the portions are small, so you still may want to hit up the buffet before or after.
- There were lots of seats at both the buffet and pools; I never had to fight for a spot or reserve seating at the pool.
- The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Cons:
- Too many people are trying to sell you things on the beach; every 5-10 minutes, you can expect to be interrupted to be sold a day trip, massage, etc.
- Mosquitoes! Bring bug spray, I'm not sure if it was from the season or our room location, but the mosquitoes were not friendly.
- The beach itself is small, with lots of rocks and seaweed. Bring water shoes if you want to go in the ocean.
- The main lobby bar closes at midnight, and if you want drinks, you need to go to the disco.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: All you need at Barcelo Maya Riviera
The hotel is very well designed. One of the best features is how they lay out the infinity pools. All of them nudge right up to the beach giving you nice views of the beach and ocean while relaxing in the pool. The beach is large with many areas to sit in the sun or shade. The entrance to the water was rocky but with some water shoes it was no big deal. These things don't personally bother me - its nature - like going up north or anything else you will have to deal with some environmental factor[... read more]s.
The food was great - The buffet breakfast was all you could ask for and the lunch and dinner was on the mid - higher end of the scale when comparing buffets. The restaurants were all very good, our favorite being Agave (Mexican cuisine) specifically the taco bar where you sit around a bar table and watch them prepare you all the tacos you want. Sapporo (Japanese) was also great - the teppanyaki grill is like every other - a fun show and great food. The other one we tried was the Italian which was good- the pasta was decent but i enjoyed the pizza more.
One fun perk is the ability to go to all the other resorts, we walked around the first couple of days and you can grab a drink anywhere and explore. We did have dinner at the steak and pasta restaurant at the palace and it was one of our favorite meals and we found even the service amazing that evening. The other resorts have some small water parks (kid friendly resorts) we used the mini golf once for a little adventure (free) they also have bowling and other things in the mall at your own cost.
Overall all the staff was amazing and friendly and worked very hard. However the resort as a whole doesn't seem to accommodate or give you that feeling of being "treated like royalty". Don't get me wrong they do a lot for you and are great but I found the premium level did not have many perks besides 24 hour room service. We never used the premium lounge as the lobby bar was significantly better in the evenings and nights. I never got premium drinks, even when i asked for cans or corona i was told no. We were celebrating a honeymoon and asked if they did anything for that. We were told yes they would have something in our room or set up something nice but all they gave us was a dessert at dinner. Nice of the recognition but a little ironic at and all inclusive. Again this is me finding issues to complain about, in no way did this ruin my trip at all. The resort is beautiful the staff is great and i had an amazing time. I enjoyed it more then the Hideaway at Royalton i previously stayed at.

Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: Just ok, average
I watched and read many reviews ahead of going on this trip, but I always take them with a grain of salt. I have spent time at 5 star resorts and 3 star resorts, and some of the complaints can be off from my experience.
1. Check in process- we arrived at around 11 and check in was 3 pm. It was a long day and had I realized I may have opted for a later flight. We got bracelets and could enjoy the resort while we waited for the room to be ready. It was our first time there and there wasn't anyo[... read more]ne to show us a basic tour around, so we wandered until one of the concierge helped us about. Went back at 3 to find that the room was still not ready. It was closer to 4 before we got to the room.
2. Room - The room was clean and spacious. I didn't find it any more humid or musty in comparison to any other resorts 0that I have been to in the Caribbean at this time of year. (I always travel the first week of October) We didn't bother with a dehumidifier. We were in building 16 on the 4th floor. For a resort that is a 5 star rating, I was surprised that the closet and cupboards were looking shambles, doors were not closing properly etc. One big note is the shower had no hot water in the afternoons, with the exception of one day. Although, one sink would only put out boiling water at all times of day (so it wasn't an issue of no hot water at all, just none in the shower).
The mirror lights were cool, but one didn't work. Loved that there were 2 sink stations!
3. Room service- what service?? We ordered room service the second day as it was rainy and didn't feel like leaving the room. I have never used room service before so was excited to try it. I was around 1:30 pm and after we ordered it said it would be about 1 hour, which I kind of expected as it was rainy and many may have had the same thought! After a few mins, the app said it would be an additional 40 minutes. After 2 hours and nothing showing up, I messaged the room service to see what was happening and heard nothing back. 3 hours later, we canceled it as our reservation for dinner was almost ready. Disappointing for a 5 star place.
4. The food/drinks - buffet was just ok. The need a better system for keeping food hot, as most things that were pre-made were barely warm. The fish station for fresh fish, calamari, prawns and scallops was delicious, but was always a long wait (very popular), same for the stir fry station. The other foods offered were ok, nothing to write home about, and fairly flavorless. I was surprised at the size of the buffet considering the size of the resort, seemed small to me.
We ate at The Catch (seafood), Brazil (Brazilian), Satra (Indian), Gusta (Italian) and the Steakhouse. The Indian had the best flavor, fairly spicy if you have a delicate palate. The Brazilian was my favorite overall. Again with the temperature of the food, most was just barely warm. Guy's Burger joint was good, burgers were enjoyable, fries were cold unless the were right out if the fryer. Gusta had a pizza window and that fresh pizza was amazing!
I found the service quality a hit and miss at all restaurants. Food and service left me feeling disappointed overall. No, I didn't starve by any means, it just was lacking for a 5 star resort. I didn't experience any unusual gastric issues while there (I have some IBS issues on the regular back home, so anything I experienced here was my normal).
The drinks were fine, not a huge drinker anyway, but I didn't find them watered down much in my opinion.
5. Chair game- we didn't have a single issue with this the whole week. There were chairs with umbrellas at the pool and beach all week, some days we were down there around 9 and a few closer to noon. They may not have been right at the front of things, but I was not rising at 6 am for anything this week to get front row.
6. Pools/lazy river- The pools were clean and I didn't find it too crowded, although we are more beach people. The Lazy river was a fun addition to the day. Sometimes it was busier than others, but there seemed to be floats available (we brought our own though).
7. The beach- this is one of my big things when traveling. I want a beautiful beach! The beach itself is absolutely beautiful.
Which was quickly disappointing after being in the water and seeing actual chunks of POOP ? floating all around us. Let me preemptively state that I know this is NOT the hotels fault. This happened all but the last 2 days we spent at the beach. There were several stories as to what kind of poo it was (turtles, manatees, human waste from tour boats dumping at sea), but the fact that I had to dodge literal chunks of feces at all was absolutely disgusting. Many of the return guests and have had this same experience along this stretch of beach. I have never had this experience anywhere else in Mexico or other Caribbean destinations.
This alone is a reason that I would never be back to that particular area of Mexico. It is a shame as that particular beach itself is stunning. It makes me wonder if the reports of people being sick at the resort and for weeks after leaving are related ?
I can say I would not be back to this resort. Nothing of the above ruined my whole vacation, by any means, but the hotel overall was lacking any sort of "it factor" for me, and the logs of poo in the ocean was the thing that cinched that decision.

The Hotel and room are modern and kept very clean. the staff were amazing and helpful. I had forgotten an expensive pair of sunglasses in the buffet and Ariel (the server) chased me dow on the resort to return them. The food and resturants were exceptional. Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Family vacation
We decided to go on a last minute vacation with the family. We chose this resort based off of reviews online. We have never been to Mexico and didn’t know what to expect. What a fantastic resort! There is a lot of walking as the resort is large but worth it and when needed they have golf carts to take you where you need to go! The staff was absolutely friendly and a ton of activities to do on the resort alone! We opted for the family eco penthouse and was so worth it! We had 5 of us 2 kids and 3[... read more] adults. The room was massive and came with a king bed, double bunk bed with a trundle under it and 2 bathrooms. We had monkeys on our balcony every morning the kids loved it! Lots of wild life through the resort including a rescue spot with donkeys, pigs, bunnies and sheep and you can even feed them each day! The food was great and each a la cart was fantastic! They have a store on site in case you need anything. The beach was beautiful and protected with what looks like a man made wall to help with seaweed on the beach. We did a day excursion with the hotels booking company and honestly it was worth it and the staff was fantastic! I honestly have nothing bad to say about this resort and will definitely be visiting again! Pleasantly surprised!

Riu Latino: Very good resort
Likes:
Resort was clean, grounds well taken of, staff excellent, room was excellent and beach was fantastic.
Plenty of entertainment day and evening.
An abundance of party atmosphere: jungle party, pink party, silent party, foam pool party and of course white evening party.
Changes I would like to see:
Would like to see a bar closer to, or on the beach.
Would also like to see the lobby bar and sports bar have small designated lane where guests can order their own drinks and step away. The[... read more] present system with guests sitting on bar stools all around especially at peak times makes it inconvenient and unsafe because one would have to find 'an opening' and get the bartender attention. In light of COVID, measles and flu, unnecessary close contact should be avoidable.
There is a residential black cat near the Moctezuma restaurant. I have witnessed cat lovers petting and holding this cat. Nothing wrong with that. However, plenty is wrong when these same guests go into the buffet restaurant and hold shared utensils without washing their hands.
Time taken to travel between the airport and resort, going and coming is well over an hour. I was told about 40 minutes.
