This Iberostar resort was outstanding in every way during our Feb19-Mar4/20 vacation. The facility was terrific, very clean and well maintained, staff were all fantastic and very friendly and the food was plentiful, diverse and excellent. Well done Iberostar!!

Hotel Bella Costa: Great staff, amazing weather, resort in need of upgrades though !!!
This is our 8th time in Cuba so we are very accustomed to travelling there. This is a nice size resort. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The ocean view and beach are amazing. Pool is also nice size but cool. Jacuzzi's were only filled later on our vacation but water was cold and no jets.
We were in a balcony room facing the ocean on the second floor. The entire room is in serious need of upgrades and repairs. Toilet tipsy, missing ceramic on tiles, furniture heavily scuffed, beddi[... read more]ng and towels greyed out. Cushions filthy and smelly, yet our chamber person did everything she could to make it welcoming, clean and beautiful towel art. Fridge was not restocked, except for water, thankfully !!! Elevators did not always work, when they did, they often did not stop level so this was a trip hazard.
Entertainment (interior) area was not designed for entertainers so you could barely see the shows if you were anywhere further than the second or third row. These people try really hard to entertain and not always under the best conditions. Exterior entertainers (one of which we participated in) crossed boundaries in this period of hypersensitivity on Coronavirus and STIs. They were mimicking an aboriginal ritual and at one point, sprayed participants by putting liquids in their mouth and spraying us. That is totally unacceptable. So many diseases/infections transmitted through bodily fluids. I was shocked and officially complained !!!
The food (especially deserts) at the specialty restaurants was often similar or same as the buffet but tasty nonetheless. The beachfront restaurant was very nice as it had all the food in covered display cases. Loved eating there right by the ocean.
Booked an amazing private tour to Havana with our party of 6. Guide and driver were fun, knowledgeable, respectful and extremely proud to show us around. Very pleasant experience actually. Havana has had major restorations over the years since we had last been. Lots of opportunities to give to locals. Be sure to be clear on expectations because you can easily spend $20-30 pesos within 25 feet if you accept all offers of caricatures, musicians, etc...
Above and foremost, Cubans are such warm and caring individuals, THAT was key and it made our vacation worthwhile. Would I go back to that resort? Likely not !!!

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Great trip!
The resort was beautiful, amazing service, perfect beach. The food was decent for Cuba, lots of options. Everything was clean and well maintained. The entertainment staff worked hard to get everyone involved. The only complaint we had were the mosquitoes - never had so many bug bites in my life! Would highly recommend bringing bug spray and after bite. Would definitely go back to this resort!

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Will return to Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar
We will be returning to Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar
We really enjoyed our 9-day visit. We have been to several resorts in the Caribbean and this is our favorite.
High points:
-Rooms were spacious and sparkling clean
-Lots of towel art
-Rooms were quiet
-Service (both in room and elsewhere on resort) was good
-Decor and landscaping are well thought-out — wonderful!
-Hotel layout and signage are very good
-Wildlife is fun and adds life to the landscaping
-Buffet selections were ple[... read more]ntiful and good, except beef items
-Omelet station at beach buffet was excellent
-Lots of shuttles if needed, but the variety in the landscaping makes the walks very pleasant
-Variety of seating to enjoy, be it at beach (lounging chairs, beds, hammocks), at the various pools (lounging chairs, stationary and rocking beds, pool bar stools and “oasis†benches), or in lobby (comfy rattan lounge chairs and benches)
-Varied pool ambiance — quiet areas, music and entertainment/games area
-The resort was very well maintained and very clean
-Entertainment at pool was fun and varied
-Entertainment staff was courteous and very friendly (Hola Leslie, Katia and Enrique!)
-House wines were very nice
-Sugar-free mojitos at pool bars were great
-Both à -la-carte restaurants we patronized (El Colonial gourmet and Japanese) were very good
Room for improvement:
-Evening entertainment needs some work (especially the pre-show)
Food:
-Coffee (and lattes) in buffets could be much better
-Beef was super tough - hard to eat
Minor irritants:
-Insufficient garbage cans, especially on beach
-No recycling bin in room. The resort should have instructions about dealing with cans and bottles.
-Electric outlets that stop working when there is no movement were disconcerting — the resort should provide info about that on check-in.
-Fan in our bathroom was noisy.
-Occasional seats along jungle paths would be appreciated.
-Note that the concierge let us down a bit. When we asked about ordering wine to enjoy in our room (not available in mini- bar), we were told (quite insistently, almost rudely) by concierge that there was a room service card in the room (even though I had pointed out that there was not). (There was no room service card in the room)

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Enjoyed the resort.
This was our first visit to the Iberostar Playa Alameda and we enjoyed the resort and all it's facilities. The employees were always friendly and the hotel was well looked after. The size of the resort was perfect with around 350 rooms situated in eleven - 3 story buildings. The layout of the resort made all the facilities such as the beach, pool, restaurants, courtyard and theater easy to find. Everyday there was a variety of entertainment from 7 to 8:30 pm in the outdoor part of the lobby bar[... read more] followed by the house band in the courtyard. We will return!

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Absolutely huge resort with a jungle feel
Loved how the grounds make you feel like you are in the jungle without all the bugs. A variety of animals and birds roam freely around the resort. Keep an eye on your food as the Coti (sp) are opportunistic and will snatch your food. The beach is nice and I had fun body surfing the waves. It was sometimes difficult to find beach chairs and if you want a bed by the pool or beach get up early as many people drop their towels and stuff and go for breakfast. Overall I enjoyed and would consider[... read more] going back if the price was right.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great getaway
Staff and personal were nothing but exceptional. Last couple days the weather was suspect and they went above and beyond to cater to everyone within the resort. Food was ok not great but above average for Cuba. Beach was clean and had an abundance of chairs and room to lounge around. Very large pool with swim up bar that never went unvisited lol. Highly recommend for the perfect getaway to relax and enjoy the Cuban culture.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful resort!
We had a lovely stay at the Iberostar Laguna Azul resort. The hotel rooms were very clean with fresh towels and water refreshed daily. Some rooms were dated however that added to the Cuban atmosphere which we thoroughly enjoyed. The resort staff were all friendly and helpful. The buffet wait staff was amazing - especially Elizabeth and Raoul. There were lots of variety for food - fruits, breads, pastas all delicious. The beach was beautiful - very clean and well maintained. This trip was the fir[... read more]st time for my mother and she loved it. The evening shows were all fantastic and worth a watch. The a la carte restaurants booked fast and the food there was very good. We would definitely go back!
February 19 to 26th, 2020. This was our 2nd visit to this resort on a last minute booking as our other choices, including the Melia, were fully booked or way beyond our budget. The hotel is descent enough for Cuba, clean and reasonably maintained. While the rooms do need a good make over the staff are quite friendly and eager to serve. Any problem with plumbing or AC is very quickly attended to. Our favorites among the staff were undeniably Chef Vincente and lobby lounge waitress Yadaisy who we[... read more]nt out of their way to accomodate us. Alcoholic beverages were grossly watered down unless you drank beer all day!! However the beautiful white sand beach and turquoise water made up for much of any disappointment we felt with this resort. Advisable to give Cuba a miss in January and February as the weather can be quite unsettled. We had 3 days of rough weather and choppy seas unfortunately. Even Scuba diving is off unless you make the 3-hr trek to the Bay of Pigs!!

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Overall good resort, will go again!
Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Good mid-level resort, some issues with room
This was a beautiful hotel, with a large, spread out arrangement of small 2 storey buildings w/ 8 rooms a piece. Breakfast and dinner are both served at the building closest to the entrance to the property, so if you are in a beach side room, as we were, just expect an ~ 500 m walk (each way) to your meal. We had 3 year old twins with us, who suddenly lost the ability to walk when required, and insisted on being carried each time, in the hot sun. Not bringing a stroller was my fault, but it de[... read more]finitely affected my feelings about this place.
The room was small, almost European in feel, but had everything we needed. That was, until the fridge broke, the ice bucket broke, the a/c stopped working (for whole resort) for a day, and the shower always toggled b/w cold and hot constantly, such that my children screamed in pain when i would try to wash the sand out of their nether regions. There is also a hammock directly outside of everyone’s room door, which ended up just being a nuisance b/c it was always in the way when we were coming and going.
The food was pretty decent, and almost always available. Maybe some things would get swept away quickly, ahem mango, and you’d have a better chance of getting toilet paper during a corona virus freak out, but there were plenty of options. Plates, however, were often in short supply.
The pools were not heated, and even though it was ~25-28 outside, everyone screamed upon entry. Cozumel is a very windy island, so you will be quite chilled if you try to sit half in and half out of the pool. The only kiddie pool options were very small and had two depth choices, 6 inches and 12 inches. I’m not kidding. Needless to say, almost no children wanted to play in these.... puddles? Babies less than 12 months seemed to like them. But we ended up renting a Jeep ($50/day) and driving to the windy side of the island where one reef breaks the waves and all the locals take their kids. Went there 4 days in a row, and LOVED it. There was a solar powered ice cream bike/cart who came in the afternoons and served the best lemon/lime ice cream i could imagine.
The beach at the resort was lovely. Don’t expect to be able to walk in, as there is a big rocky out cropping right at the water line, but there is a dock with stairs at the end to bypass this. If you have kids like mine, this might be an issue. My toddlers wanted to wade in, not walk 150 feet down a “scary†dock and then into 5 ft deep water. But for most people, this would be a non-issue.
There are two parrots named Pepe and Hugo who live in the lobby, loose, and they were the highlight of the trip for us.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Great Resort!!
We again visited our Cuban family at the Iberostar Daiquiri. We stayed February 22nd to March 7th. This was our 10th visit to this resort and most certainly will not be our last.
We had a Seaview Room with king bed. The rooms are very basic but clean. Food was very good this year with a wide variety. We ate at both the buffet and a la cartes and enjoyed both options.
The number one feature of this resort is the beach. You can walk for miles on the beautiful white sand.

JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar: Welcome Home Indeed
We all know what it feels like to come home, being pampered, and enjoying favourite dishes and activities; your family going out of their way to ensure your total comfort and enjoyment. Well that is the same feeling that Iberostar Grand Paraiso offers in greetings and delivery. It all starts with the bellman, saying “Welcome Homeâ€, as he takes your luggage from the airport shuttle, and continues throughout your stay. Every staff member you pass during your vacation always says “is everythi[... read more]ng to your liking, can I get you anything.
Octavian, one of the main chefs, acted like a big brother to both my wife and I, but especially to my wife with her gluten-free requirements. He created unbelievable, special dishes for her at breakfast, lunch and dinner. He would always find her, wherever we were, and make sure she was taken care of. It seemed like Octavian never slept, as he also conducted a “guacamole†class between lunch and dinner.
There were many other “brothers and sistersâ€, who pampered us throughout our holiday. America, a hostess, always greeted us each morning for breakfast and at lunch with the biggest smile and hug. Rodrigo not only took care of us by the pool but stopped at our cabana, almost daily to enquire if we needed anything. Adriana was incredible by the “tranquility pool†always ensuring we had what we needed. By the way, Adriana makes the best margaritas we have ever had. Mauricio, as our butler not only provided everything we required, but if something was not right, he would fix it very quickly. Cesar was outstanding on both of our visits to Valencia. Tsunami (affectionately known as “Big Waveâ€) always had time for us each day with her stories, various activities and beautiful smile. This incredible lady can speak 5 languages. You know you are truly home when old friends from previous years (this was our 3rd consecutive year), Mirna and Marcello, stop by to welcome you with a hug, and of course ask if you need anything.
It appears that each year the food keeps getting better. We ate at Toni’s and Valencia twice, off the a la carte menu (highly recommended) at the Japanese restaurant, and mixed in the outstanding international themed cuisine buffet dinners.
The matriarch to us, of this Iberostar Grand Paraiso family is Laura Favial, the assistant General Manager. Laura last year quickly and expertly dealt with an issue we had. This year she stopped by to see how we were doing, and also personally came out to wish us an enjoyable and safe trip home, but only after she enquired, if everything was to our liking. She appears to be the key link to a well oiled machine.
If you are at all interested in coming home, and being welcomed as such, Iberostar Grand Paraiso is your choice. We know that and will be back next year and hopefully for many more.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: The hotel as lost a star
Many downgrades since our last visit a year ago: no more included room service, no waiters on the beach, no tequila bottle in the room...
The room cleaning service has also gone down: many days the sheets are not changed, the floor is not cleaned and the mini fridge is not filled as expected...
One great improvement: the new water system, distributers instead of plastic bottles and the quality is better.
Same beautiful site, great employees and great food!
