Riu Guanacaste: A Great Getaway
This is my second stay in seven years at this resort. Both times were great. The property is secluded with a gorgeous stretch of beach nestled between mountains and jungle. The staff are so helpful and never let your glass run low of wine. The restaurants offer a good variety. The main entertainment gets a bit mundane after a few nights, however the musicians prior to the main show are great. More variety is needed. The resort is well maintained and clean. Zip lining and nature outings are fanta[... read more]stic.

Riu Reggae: Good Place for a Party
We were to the Riu Reggae in December 2021. This is a great place to go if you want to have a fun vacation. Always lots of music, the entertainment crew is lovely and want to engage you.
If you are looking for any peace, this is not the place for you. There is no escaping *constant* noise. From 10am onwards, music plays constantly at the pools and the entertainment crew is hosting games. Even constant noise in the hallways with doors slamming and voices carried in the hallways.
The b[... read more]each was pretty disappointing - it is small and lots of seaweed. The only guaranteed shade on the beach is in the smoking section as it gets shade from trees and the building. The rest is covered with palm trees only so not reliable for shade.
The hotel is very clean - they are constantly cleaning. COVID protocols were followed - hand sanitizer, masks, etc. The hotel tries to do a good job with it but the patrons need to respect the protocols to really make it work.
The team working there is amazing. Incredibly nice and hardworking people. The food was excellent. We only went to the Italian a la carte - again, so noisy that it was hard to enjoy the atmosphere. The food at the buffet was so good that we didn't feel the need to go to the other a la cartes.
If you want activity and vibrancy, I think you would enjoy this. If you want to escape noise and have some peace, this is not the place for you.

Riu Palace Riviera Maya: Paradise in the Mayan Riviera
My wife and I visited the Riu Palace Riviera Maya from December 4-18. The staff were extremely accommodating, the rooms were spotless thank you Silvia. Eddy at the front door was so welcoming upon arrival and courteous upon departure. Our beach server Enrique was so unbelievable, he was absolutely fantastic, he worked 6 days a week and he made sure that my wife and I had cold drinks every day all day. The beach was beautiful, the location was ideal and the entertainment staff at the pool and sho[... read more]ws worked tirelessly to keep the guests smiling! The food was good. Some Americans travellers rude trying to trip little kid running around,in a kid friendly resort .
I can tolerate rude, but this was too much to witness
Told the rude table it was a bad idea to trip another mother kid.
So watch your kids around rude Americans that feel entitled.

Riu Tequila: 5 STAR RESORT
Hotel was refreshed recently. New beds and furniture including washroom and shower. It was very nice. Even tho beach was a short walk it was well worth it, I would stay at it again. Food and bars were amazing as so was the service. Only thing that grossed me out was the swim up bar at the pool as it had a different tint to it as I suspect most guests would not use the washroom.

Riu Palace Jamaica: Great resort
Food was exceptional, breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet are excellent, presentation and taste was top notch. Smaller restaurants were also very good. The best thing about this resort is definitely friendly and super efficient staff, at the Aqua bar Renaldo, Winston and Gregory and bartender Ren were amazing. At the buffet our server Audley was so attentive and always , and pleasant to talk to. Not to forget the life guard David who was always in the good mood and ready to have conversati[... read more]ons. Rooms are clean and serviced twice a day. Lots of hand sanitizers all around and clean surroundings everywhere. Beach was clean however would need some improvement.

Riu Montego Bay: The Grand Dilema
Posting a review about the RIU Montego Bay resort for me seems to swing to both sides of the table. To explain the review I will review each part seperately.
Arrival and check in:
After a small hiccup of being directed to the wrong counter by a hotel check in staff member, the experience went well. Friendly, informative and quick. Waited almost three hours for the bellman to bring mybags to the room, and eventually got them ourselves, as I wanted to change and head to the beach or pool.
R[... read more]oom:
The room was ok. Small but clean. They seem to ha e a shortage of towels a d floor mats as I only had the full compliment on arrival. Each subsequent, after the room was serviced I had to ask for the towels which had either been forgotten or were not available. The bathroom floor mat/towel for exiting the shower was only avail on the first day. Was never available after that. The "fully" stocked mini bar was one bottle of dark rum, and one bottle of vodka(Not a recognized brand), Coca-Cola, sprite and water. Small easy to use safe I the room to keep valuables. Room.was generally good... towel issue not a major thing at all.
Food / dining:
The attempt at fine dining at the Asian and Italian, and Steakhouse needs work. The food quality at the buffet was actually better. Made three attempts to eat the steak in different restaurants at the resort. The advertised rib eye is not actually rib eye, but some not very well cooked mystery part of the cow. The breakfast options were good. Mix or local and American style food. The staff at dining rooms were great. Very friendly very help full. The jerk at the buffet was slightly better tasting than the jerk on the beach setup.
Pool:
The pool areas are all great. The pools are clean and tested multiple times daily. Lots of space at the 5 pools.
Beach:
Doing this separately from the pool as it was my only area of dissapointment. I did not know this before, but the hotel is built on reclaimed swampland and the beach photos are a bit misleading. The first 4ft or so when entering the water is white sand and clear water, but after that, the floor is all silly mud, dark grey in color which your feet will sink into about 2-3 inches when you stand. Not a great feeling at all. Going swimming was the reason I went on this trip but only did that at the beach on the first day. Only swam in the pool after that. Or stuck to the first 4 feet of entry to the water which was only 2ft deep. I'm probably not he only one who noticed this, because of the hundreds of people on the beach, I only ever saw about 10 people in the water.
Bar:
The bar has a set menu which does not co soft of any premium alcohol, but the pina coladas were amazing with the dark rum. I asked if the had Prosecco once and was told yes.. then watched him mix regular white wine with club soda.
Hotel:
Recently renovated, the decor is much better than that of what I had a glimpse of the RIU Reggae.
Covid 19:
Masks required for any service including the bar etc. Sanitizer is everywhere.
Return...?
Hard to say... I was content at the pool but being an islander myself, a d wanting the beach for swimming, I probably would not go back, although everything g else was ok... everything is not perfect, but does not really.need to be. Difficult to say I won't return due to the muddy beach when the staff was so great. If the beach swimming is not important to you, then I highly recommend this resort.

Riu Palace Macao: Second time there and will be back again!
This resort is amazing! The grounds are well kept and the facility is constantly being cleaned by staff. The food quality and selection is great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beach is amazing, except when we were there it was windy and therefore there was more seaweed being swept on shore, but once you got through it the water was wonderful. These people who work in the resort work very long hours, something I'm sure most people wouldn't do and I'm very disappointed that some [... read more]guests don't leave a tip at the end of their meals. I understand that tips are included, but if you can't afford a dollar or two after you dinner you shouldn't be going there. We will definitely be coming back to this beautiful resort. Riu Caribe Cancun: Nice Mid Tier Resort Where the Staff is Great But the Food was Mediocre
My boyfriend and I were here the first week of December 2021. I think we got a much better room than we paid for because it was huge so that was a bonus.
Pros:
-Good COVID protocols (all staff masked at all times, mandatory masking for guests in public areas, high touch areas were wiped often)
-Clean property
-Not very noisy
-A+ staff who were all very friendly and helpful, especially the serving staff at the pool and beach
-Decent daytime and nighttime entertainment on the property (a[... read more]gain, their entertainment staff were great)
-no matter what time of day, we were able to find loungers both poolside and on the beach
-huge pool
Cons:
-food quality and selection, while serviceable, was disappointingly mediocre at best (avoid the Asian themed restaurant in particular)
-the built in liquor dispensers in room were never refilled during our week
-water in the mini bar was not refilled automatically each day. The tap water here is not potable so clean drinking water is very important and we had to ask for more water twice. Luckily they were generous when we asked and provided 4L at a time but it's not ideal to return to your room after a day in the sun and discover you have no drinking water.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Stay away - definitely not a 4-star resort. Especially if you’re not white.
The service at this resort was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced and I’ve been to many resorts. Most of the staff acted like they didn’t want to be there. There were some staff members that were lovely but enough of the rude ones that effectively ruined the entire experience for us. We were constantly met with an attitude as if they were doing us a favour and that we were annoying them with our presence.
The first interaction that left us scratching our heads was after we got to o[... read more]ur room. There was a hole near the lock so we decided to ask the front desk if we can switch rooms. The man we spoke to was extremely rude and acted as if we were a huge inconvenience to him. My friend and I were nothing but polite and friendly. When I reminded him that we needed a room with two beds, he acted exasperated and said “Ok…Only if there is something available. If there isn’t, then…†then had his arms out and just looked at me. I was so surprised because it felt like he expected us to leave. I had to ask “Ok, can you please check for us?†He sighed again and then went back to his computer. We were able to switch rooms but were so shocked with that encounter. I’ve never even been treated like that at a McDonald’s, let alone a so-called 4-star resort.
We were very confused as to why we were being treated this way. Regardless of the poor service and horrible attitude, we still tipped them. However, they would often take the tip without even looking at us. We were definitely not seeking a huge gesture of gratitude but a quick “thanks†or smile would have been common decency. No luck here.
My friend and I were the only two Asians there but we really didn’t want to jump to conclusions as to why we were being treated this way. However this following incident made it hard to ignore. My friend was waiting at the bar near the pool for quite some time but was ignored. It wasn’t busy but the lady behind the bar (Naztada?Maztada? I couldn’t see her name tag well) pretended she didn’t see him. Then a white man walked up and she immediately took his order with a smile. This was honestly so upsetting to experience.
Not everyone was rude, there were some lovely staff members (e.g the lady performing the PCR test and the a la carte waiters). But the majority of them were so awful to us that it left a terrible taste in our mouths. The food was mediocre and the resort was very small. The only good thing was the beautiful beach. Stay at the Warwick instead or splurge for Atlantis or Baha Mar. Anywhere but Riu. We will not be coming back ever.
Everything about this hotel is awesome. The rooms are very clean, the maids are on it everyday. The restaurants are really good especially the Bamboo. Our favorite waiter in the buffet is Pedro such a wonderful person and I’d like to call him our friend. Hesus would take care of us at lunch and he was very funny and personable. The front desk were always helpful. The elevators get a bit busy so you have to learn to work around the busy times (eg…checking out, breakfast and dinner.

Riu Tequila: A Beautiful Resort Geared for the young
First of all, with all Covid concerns, they did an excellent job. Masks worn, temperature taken, continuously mopping and wiping things down.
The resort is beautiful, almost like beings in a forest. The food was pretty good. Lots of vegetables and fruits. If you had dietary restrictions, I think you could find a good variety of food here. The pools were nice. Entertainment was pretty good, REALLY LOUD.
My only complaint would be. The ocean is far away. One shuttle that seats 7. Can't [... read more]understand why you don't have at least two shuttles taking you to the beach. Also why not offer a shuttle to take people from their unit to dinner. I have knee issues so found the walking painful many nights. I would not recommend this resort to someone with mobility issues, it is big and an effort if you like a beach, plus quite a step down when you go into the water. Tons of chairs and shade at the beach once you get there. Overall our vacation was relaxing and enjoyable despite the amount of rain. My Trip Central consultant was amazing.
