Paradisus Rio De Oro: Quiet and relaxing

We have been here many times before, and booked again because there was a great deal available. It felt as if we had the whole resort to ourselves- there were much fewer guests because of the Thomas Cook travel issues from the UK, so it was truly quiet. The weather was good, hot and humid, but the ocean and pools were warm. The beach was very clean, and waves were minimal. There were a few issues with our initial room, but these were satisfactorily resolved. We spent a few days at the main resort and the balance at Royal Service. We found the food quality was improved overall, and there was always something fresh that one could choose from. The live musicians still perform at the beach restaurant, and are as great as ever. Snorkelers were happy with the clear ocean and wealth of fish and coral to see on the reef directly accessible from the resort. In general, the resort needs some updates and reno work, but for the price, beautiful scenery and good service from the personnel, it was well worth coming here. In comparison with other places in Cuba, and even with some of the new resorts, we still prefer this one. There is a large area for walking, no high-rise buildings, scenery and landscaping, ocean and pool, spa services (incidentally, prices are now more reasonable! And the salt water pool and private beach are lovely), with an excellent staff rresort-wide. These are our main requirements, and thus, we look forward to our next visit!

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Beautiful beach and great swimming.

Lovely property and very comfortable rooms. Staff are generally kind and helpful. The food is disappointing if you are one who is health conscious. Almost all offerings have either added butter, oil, excess salt, sugar or gravy or sauce. Very difficult to find wholesome unadorned choices. Some of the food is really really "tired" after the third or fourth presentation, no matter how much sauce or gravy to compensate. Best to stick with daily fish or meat cooked to order. There is very limited bottled water at the restaurants and bars. The "fries" are now deep fried tortilla chips. The "hamburgers" are indescribable. What are they? Nothing like you have ever had or would ever want to have. That said, ice cream is always great! Entertainment is world class. Wonderful music. Would I recommend this hotel? Yes, if you don't mind just so so food at best. Fantastic beach with crystal clear water.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Wonderful Resort

this hotel is well looked after, the grounds are beautiful, some of the furniture is uncomfortable / too large and low / some things are in need of repair the food is good - you'll always find something to eat the service is good - sometimes it's inconsistent - one day a server came by very regularly the next day was very sporadic we know that it's hard to get all foods all the time but if you don't have something just let us know - we ordered a caesar salad and didn't get anything t [... read more]hat resembled one - we could have ordered something else if we were told that they didn't have Caesar salad overall - it is a great resort with wonderful staff - I would go back

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: only thing good was the beach

Same menu for lunch & supper every day. There were not enough fruits & vegetables, not even pineapples or mangos, mostly rice. Not all items on the menu were available at the Snack Bar. A la carte restaurants were ordinary. We went in mid-October, is this the reason why there was a limited variety of food? Brisas Guardalavaca: 10 day stay at the Brisas...great resort

We love this resort. Was our 2nd time visiting. Grounds are well kept and our maid was outstanding and took care of our daily needs. Minor food shortage but still plenty of food to eat. Will return.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Horrible

This was the worst experience I have had in cuba to date. We were treated like 2nd rate people as the resort was full of Cubans and we did not speak Spanish. The food at this resort was absolutely horrible I don't eat canned anything at home so I would not accept that when I have paid good.money to be fed . Paradisus Rio De Oro: Excellent

This was our fourth time in Cuba, first time in Holguin. It was the best spot in Cuba, thus far, and the best hotel in Cuba we have been to. It is a mountainous region, lush, with lots of great things to do very close to the hotel. The beach is beautiful, slightly rocky right in front but sandy spot a few seconds down to get in. Of course the drinks are plentiful, and the staff are mature, professional and very polite. The resort itself feels magical, with lots of trees and vegetation. The nature park is very close with hiking, horseback riding and reef fishing, ask for Orlando to take you out. Great morning out on the reef. We are not normally travellers that return to the same place, but we definitely will be back to this resort. Hot water in the shower, every. Time. !!!

Sol Turquesa Beach: Ended up at playa costa verde because momories was closed down

Good week away but that was about it, dead crabs in the pools. Food was the same thing every day no change at all and no variety. Booze selection isnt the greatest everything was just meh other than the rooms and the people which were pretty good.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Horrible experience

We actually didn’t get to stay here due to occupancy. We were offered to stay at Playa Costa Verde, which really disappointing. The selection of food was poor , bugs and birds in the buffet area. The beach area was small and lots of rocks to walk over before u reach a sandy area. The rooms were average and a/c didn’t work well. Complained 3 times nothing happened. Alcart was from buffet. If we had known this would happen we would have canceled. But with a group of 14 people was hard to rearrange. Airport was totally disorganized going both ways.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Good resort

The resort is good . Beach is just beautiful. Good snorkeling. We are going back again in April soon. Just because of the embargo from the US these wonderful people are suffering every day Not enough fuel and other supplies to make the resort run 100% but that is their fault . They do everything in their power to make your holiday a success. Love the people of Cuba.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: great staff and besch

I have stayed at this resort numerous times. The resort is clean and the staff are good. Some issues recently with being able to get certain items in due to gas shortages. One concern this time was the shortage of bottled water. There is a water filtration system on site, but no bottled water causes issues for those wanting to venture off the resort or go on excursions. My wife and I have been to Cuba numerous times we have visited Habana, Varadero, Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Holguin so it's not our first trip to the rodeo and I'm in the Hospitality Industry for over 35 years and normally don't complain about little things but I will here this is the first place where "ALL INCLUSIVE" is not all inclusive false advertising or buyer beware I was charged $1.00 per bottled water, between my wife and I we drank 2 to 3 bottles per day. $15 pesos here The safe in t [... read more]he room was also not included $2.00 per day $14 pesos there The chairs on the beach $1.00 per chair total $2 pesos Drinks at the beach bar total$4 pesos and this beach is on the resort It felt like every where we turned we were being nickle and dime (GOUGED) The food was very poor always the same items, they would only change the positions on the buffet table not very many options either unless you went to their other restaurants run by another company called "Palmares" where you have to pay for everything but they share the same grounds as the resort really weird but a good strategy on their part they have a captive audience We arrived on a Tuesday by Friday they ran out of money and if we wanted to exchange money we had to go to town and we left on the Tuesday and still had no money At the front desk they weren't very friendly it looked and seemed like we were bothering them when we wanted anything like the phone cards or information on activities By the third day we were ready to transfer to another hotel if it were not for the exceptional service we received from an apprentice waitress at the lobby bar by the name of Tania Lopez she would always greet us with a genuine smile and made us feel special and brought us those special Spanish coffee THANK YOU Tania Will we be back to Cuba ? yes, but not at Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca Sorry

I have stayed at this hotel 5 times in the last three years. While the hotel staff are excellent I have the hotel management very short sited in try charging extra for safe and refrigerator in their top accommodations. I partially understand as the drop in rating has caused a major portion of it European and Canadian clients to be replaced by Cuban locals and a large influx of Russians who are more cost conscious. On my last trip I was upgrade to a fantastic room with a fridge and a compliment [... read more] 10 year old bottle of rum. The next day I was invited for lunch at Bennys an on site restaurant that is you could easily class as four star I was not aware but it was also open for breakfast and lunch on some days. As for the bars the quality of acholic drinks remained the same but there were no shortages like the last two times. I also had supper at benny on night and again the service and food was excellent. On the las night of my stay I was invited to an open air dinner by the beach that was steak or lobster, a great red wine, a flamed desert and champagne. There was a great party a the pirate ship on the beach with entertainment for the young and old and a very wet bar. The food at the main dinning room was adequate but could be upgraded to include more fresh fruit and vegetables. Late arrivals to breakfast found the orange juice all gone but replaced by other types. The travel rate to this hotel is lowest and a small rate increase could assist their ratting in the food area. In all I would say that the hotel was vastly improved since my previous visit and deserves a second look when hunting for a vacation spot. I will go back and hope more people will note that the vast improvement and their service and am sure it will move the satisfaction to a higher star level. Keep up the good work

Sol Turquesa Beach: Memories Closed

Memories Holguin beach resort closed . Was switched to Coste Verde last minute. The good : people ,beach ,reef was nice surprise if you u swim out far enough , food was pretty good for Cuba, lots of choices. The bad: pool dated cracked Broken tiles, lots of bugs ( fleas in pool). Diamond club means nothing . Didn't get the rum , the robe or EXTRA perks .. but for the time we went and the price we paid it was a great deal !

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful resort

Upon arrival we were greeted with cold drinks warm wash cloths and lots of smiles. Front desk got us checked in and to our rooms in 15 minutes. The resort was very clean. All staff members were beyond friendly. They went out of their way to do things for you. It was one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever done. I will definitely be going back

We visited this hotel in September.Regardless of end of season,service were exellent. We stayed in a old style,but really clean room ,king size bed and a nice view. (Air conditioning worked well and quietly.) Food was ok. Lots of variety, especially fish( and cheese. ) As I mentioned earlier,service were great. Workers always smiling and beeing really friendly and helpful. The rooms were wonderful. The steps going up to the room though needed more light at night. Staff was wonderful even though they are going through rough schedules due to what’s happening in Cuba right now

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Closed

We were re routed to the sol and mar. That was a good hotel. Rooms had ants..not only mine. Food was decent but lunch and dinner had same items. No line ups for food which was a plus. Beach was good..and pool was clean.

Playa Pesquero: Playa pesquero Sep27-Oct 04

We have been in Playa Pesquero from Sep-27 to Oct 04. The Hotel is Huge so if you don't like to walk do not use this hotel. We have been i Pavilion 54 which is closer to beach and further away from the restaurant The room was Ok Clean and stuffed regularly with drinks. The food in Hotel was good , only problem was they have been constantly changing restaurant for breakfast ,lunch or dinner so you never know but that is ok we walk a little more. Beach is really nice but we were force from beach every day at 3 Pm it was like Swiss clock everyday rain started at 3 Hotel was basically empty because of British tourist problem with Thomas Cook. Literally there was like 10-20 people on the beach. It was same for all the other hotels they share same beach. Now the negative Service in this hotel is terrible. You are expecting when the place is empty that they will take better care of you but no . You need to wait for waiter for good knows how long to bring you coffee for breakfast or drink and I leave a lot of money for tip.But they don't care. Before they been flying around you But service in Cuba is going down the drain. It was not just me who notice these all the other people that I spoke with said that service was way better in their previous visit and then you cant compare how was before.
