Barcelo Maya Palace: Great resort!

Grounds , restaurants and room are very well kept. Food was excellent! Staff are constantly working hard to ensure guests are kept happy! Lots of options for food and dining can be inside or outside along the waters edge if preferred. I would return and recommend this resort to friends. I should mention that you do need to pay to have wifi throughout the resort which we didn’t find necessary but always good to know so there are no surprises for those guests requiring the service.

Occidental Tamarindo: Nice resort

The resort is very clean, we had a great room, with a beautiful balcony that faces the ocean, although hard to see the ocean with all the trees, but I’d rather they were there than being cut down for a view. Food was good, can get a bit of the same though. Great natural beach, fun to watch the surfers. Only down side is a little far out for a lot of the excursions, but still had plenty to offer.

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Barcelo Maya - Beach resort - nice

The resort was very pretty and we had a great beach. I think it was one of the best beaches. However there were a lot of screaming kids, so maybe its the wrong time to go. We went from Jan 8 - 10, 2020. There were 3 connecting pools and kids were at all of them. I think one of pools should be designated as adult only The adult pool was great but a small area. Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: Fantastic Place

This was one of the best resorts that i have visited, The food was great,staff very friendly,rooms always clean. Great entertainment,lots of shops on site.Thanks to Karol for recommending this resort.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Magnificent Resort

The resort is absolutely stunning. The entire property is breathtaking. The food in the buffet is the best! Cook to order lobster/seafood station OMG! No dinner buffet is a let down. A la carte for dinner is the only option. Didn’t like that. Language barrier with a lot of the staff. Always ci madame, even when they didn’t understand what I was asking. There is NO free wifi anywhere on the property unl [... read more]ess you’re staying in ocean view room or upgrade to prestige privileges. Otherwise wifi is $12 US per day for 2 devices. For free wifi you have to take hotel bus to specified mall location to access wifi from 10am-5:30pm. There is no dancing option on property. Dj in lobby lounge plays only techno/house music as conversation background music for lounging. We asked for dance music and to turn up music so we could dance and security advised DJ to turn music down. Dj advised he can only play what and how upper management dictates.

Occidental Cozumel: Amazing vacation at Occidental Jan 2020

We would definitely return to the Occidental. The grounds, the beach, the room and the food was fabulous. This resort has such a great Mexican atmosphere and was exactly what we wanted. Everyone goes above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. Would highly recommend this resort.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Amazing resort

The amenities were amazing. They had a ton of activities for my very busy boys, we loved the beach. It was wavy enough to be fun, but not dangerous. They had basketball, water and beach volleyball, shuffleboard, lawn bowling, a lane pool and a small water park. Great fun. The beach volleyball court was often being used and perhaps they could add a second court for a resort of its size. Food was good with many options and we could find food any time of the day, The rooms were nice but could use  [... read more]more storage, as we only had 3 drawers for 4 people. It would have been nice to have more space to settle in. The couch was made up as a bed which was great for my son to sleep on.

Occidental Tucancun: Excellent resort

The resort was great! I loved that the beach was so close and right in front of you. The staff are amazing and the food was good. The night shows were great and enjoyed them very much. The bartenders worked so hard to please everyone and did it smiling. Antonio and Lorenzo were great!!! The check in is very very slow and the check out is also slow. That's my only complaint. Everything else was excellent! Very clean and happy place.

Allegro Cozumel: Good value

First of all: I do recommend this resort It's not a deluxe resort, but offers beautiful grounds, it's very clean, the beach is great. The rooms are small and walls are thin ,but they have all amenities. Food has reasonable variety.They really need to work at keeping the food warmer though. Lots of great fish, and fresh salad makings. Fruit available every meal. They don't water down drinks, but they do "fill" their own premium liquor bottles. Still pretty good though. If you're looking for top notch exciting entertainment, probably not for you BUT it's good family entertainment. WIFI: You can get it free if you book Premium. However, it's still only available in certain areas. It seemed to work within the Premium room units area. If you are not Premium, you will have to pay up to $45 US for the week. Premium status: Includes a premium lounge where you can serve your own mixed drinks, wine and beer. It also has continental breakfast and simple lunches. If you HATE CROWDS this is a good thing for you as it's more secluded and quiet. You also have your own pool and beach area which is generally quieter One of the Managers Rodrigo was very helpful in dealing with some minor issues when the original manager/rep at the Premium lounge was barely ever seen and didn't show up when several Premium guests needed him. The best restaurant was the Oriental. We also enjoyed the Mexican. Adorable little Mexican version of raccoons running around. They don't bother anyone and are good little cleaners for dropped food.

It’s our second time to this resort Love it ! It’s a beautiful area with clear beaches , palm trees, sun and warmth Staff are incredible Food is delicious No complaints at all The mall inside the hotel has some very nice vendors

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Wonderful Vacation in Riviere Maya !

Booking through Tripcentral was great. Flying with Sunwing was terrible. We will try to avoid flying with them for future trips. Old jets, always late and you have to pay for everything onboard (not even a free soft drink). Resort is beautiful, well maintained, great staff and good food. Great place to take children. There is plenty of beach to walk on nice sand as Barcelo has 6 resorts in a row. Staying at the Maya Caribe, we had access to 4 of the 6 resorts. This was nice since we were staying 2 weeks. The problem is if you want to go in the water. Waves stir up the sand making it impossible to see where you step. One step could be on sand while the next could be a rock. For this reason, WATER SHOES ARE A MUST. That being said, don't let this deter you from going. Because there are rocky areas, this brings sea life and birds making our walks fun and exciting. Furthermore, we discovered that at the Maya Palace, there are wild sea turtles that come swim with you looking for treats. They are so use to tourists that we could actually pet them. A real treat for us to see these beautiful animals up close. Never had trouble getting a lounge chair at the beach no matter what time we got there. You do have to reserve for a la carte restaurants and they get booked fast therefore you have to go on your first day to make your reservations for your entire vacation. We found this to be inconvenient. A short 10 minute walk from the lobby, cross the highway and you will find many cenotes that you can visit and swim in. We paid $10 US per person. It's worth the experience if you've never seen this. It's like swimming in an aquarium. Bring snorkeling gear if you have some. They provide life jackets if you need one. If the winds are not too strong, there is decent snorkeling near the resorts (mostly at the Palace). I did see a huge sting ray swim by me 10 feet away. There are some corals in some areas if you go out far enough. You need to get away from sandy areas if you want better visibility. Bring your snorkeling gear. Some people consider this resort to be too big. We did not feel this way. Unless you have mobility issues or small children, you can walk everywhere. They do have busses that run from one hotel to the other if you want. Walking from the room to lobby or room to beach is not an issue. Walking from the most southerly hotel to the most northerly of the 6 hotels would probably take 20 minutes for an average person. We had a great vacation.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: The resort, staff and meal options were amazing

Adult only resort is great. -Very clean throughout. -Rooms only have coffee available, we like tea. Had room service bring tea to the room but hot water craft still had a coffee taste to them. -should have no smoking sections for rooms and pool area. - Buffet availability for dinner was a huge disappointment as it was closed most of the time. For breakfast there was only 2 stations cooking eggs / omelettes resulting in long lineups. Should have boiled & pouched eggs available. - Premium level was value added with a wonderful view of the ocean. - Staff very friendly with mist having a good understanding of English.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Big Hotel with small hotel feel

Air Transat’s Xcaret Occidental Great hotel...quite large hotel with a small hotel feel! The planning and attention to detail everywhere is excellent. The strongest point in Xcaret Occidental is their fabulous staff and the resorts commitment to keeping the place clean everywhere!! Bonus points for both those. You c [... read more]an enjoy breakfast and lunch right at the beach or at a the larger buffet. The beach the pools and the resort are both set up perfectly for families and there are lots of both! However, you never felt inundated with kids/families. This small resort feel comes at the expense of a lot of walking to get around. My 10,000 steps was easily completed by 1pm each day. There is a tram to save walking but I never seemed to find it when I wanted a ride. Good fun to see the wildlife just hanging out although the monkeys can get quite brazen. Rooms large and comfortable and as everywhere...clean. Another strong point is the easy of on site access to the famous park Xcaret Experience. Well worth participating in. Would li recommend Xcaret Occidental...absolutely !!!..as long as you can accept a lot of walking and families having fun!!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Barcelo Review

When we arrived at the Colonial we were upgraded to the Palace. This review is about the Palace. Grounds: Large ( Shuttle comes every 15 mins to take you around). Rooms: Nice and big. AC isn't as cold as other resorts, the coldest it got was 19 degrees. Food: Really good we stayed at the palace and the buffet was really good and the Coral for lunch was good also. I spent most of my time in the large pool with the swim up bar. Big enough you don't realize others are in it. Beach: Not really sandy, hard rock under some sand. Ocean: Was very wavy and rocky, with lots of fish and sea turtles. Chairs: Lots of chairs near the pool and beach. Bonus hammocks too! Nightly entertainment: We did 3 out of 7. If you have a chance see The Magic Show and Micheal Jackson. So well done! Wifi: Don't waste your money, It works great for day one then it was very choppy after that. Maya Mall: Sports bar has great munchies and large TV to watch sports and a bowling ally. Maya Mall also had shops and a skating rink ($5 USD for 30 mins). Car Rental (Alamo): Miriam was GREAT! So helpful and full of information. Car rental was easy and great price, make sure you pay extra for them to gas up your car. Don't get scammed at the pumps. Air Transit Rep: Wasn't super helpful, I asked where I can rent a car and she did the sign of the cross over me and said don't do it. Its not safe. I rented the car with zero help from her, was so easy and very easy to drive in in Mexico. Download an offline map on your phone and go. SO EASY! Over all a great stay. If you like large resorts this is the place for you. Enjoy!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Top shelf resort

I can’t say enough about this resort. The resturaunts were all very good and staff was more than friendly. The grounds were extremely large and very well kept I never saw a piece of trash on the ground anywhere and they were constantly cleaning up the seaweed on the beach. They room was kept up well all week and everything in the room worked properly. I recommend upgrading to the premier package the unlimited al a carte and upgraded room make it well worth it.

Barcelo Solymar: Needs lots of maintenance and resources

We'd been at Barceló Solymar a few times along the past ten years but decided this was the last. Even with a renovated buffet restaurant and reception desk, the rest of the hotel is screaming for repairs. So many things don't work. The hotel has five elevators but only two work. Some days the maid couldn't leave clean towels and toilet paper! At many times during the day you can't have a hot water shower. In our room the shower glass door was broken so it was hard to take a shower without soaki [... read more]ng the entire bathroom. With regards to the food, I noticed a decrease in quality from previous trips. The hotel staff are usually polite but they talk to each other loudly from one corner to the other as if they're alone.The beaches are beautiful, but I'd say if you want to enjoy them, try a better hotel.

Allegro Cozumel: Great resort

This resort is amazing for the price. Has all the essentials. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean and well kept up. Smaller resort so not a lot of walking involved. Would recommend water shoes for the beach.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Family Resort

First impressions of this resort are jaw dropping and over the top. It is stunningly maintained and very structured with lots of concrete, bridges, pools and buildings. The beach is immaculately kept with soft white sand. This is a family oriented resort with kids everywhere. We thought we'd be going when kids were in school. Wrong. The quality of the food in the Brasserie a la carte restaurant was excellent. The rest of the food on the resort was very disappointing. Cafe style buffets are where you eat and the food is cold, undercooked and prepared too far in advance. The waste of food is incredible. Kids and families might like the variety of choices but the quality isn't there. When clearing away plates of wasted food I wish they would ask people if there was anything wrong with the food resulting in such waste. Maybe something might change. We tried about 6 different a la carte restaurants and other than the Brasserie, they were horrible. There are some good things about this resort that might make it a perfect destination for families with kids. It is huge with lots of pools and beach areas for swimming. You can walk for a long time along the beach as well as the adjoining resorts so there are lots of places to move about throughout the day. The dolphin area is within walking distance and even if you don't swim with them, you can watch the daily shows. The malls allow for shopping, bowling and internet access during certain hours. If you want nonstop internet access all day and night you will need to purchase it for about $10 US per day. In my opinion, internet access should be free. Even though people are told not to feed the wildlife, they still do. Fish come into the shallow waters as do the sea turtles and pelicans. This resort is perfectly located for anyone wanting to go into Playa Del Carmen, Tulum and Coba. Lots of tours are available. The public bus (Collectivo) comes right to the entrance of the resort on the main road. You can save a lot by taking this bus (van) service to and from the resort.
