Playa Vista Azul: Disappointment for First Tima Cuba Experience
This hotel was nothing like I expected. Terrible food, rude staff, dirty bed sheets and towels. Food and alcohol were limited. Pay per use wifi. A bit of a walk to the beach from our room. Would not stay here again.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Fabulous resort!
We spent a week at this resort the end of October/2018. It was my wife's first experience in Mexico and at an all-inclusive. We had a fabulous time!
Shortly after getting off the plane, we were on our way to the Ocean Riviera. The resort is about 40 minutes from the airport. Upon arrival, check-in was quick and easy. After check-in we were approached by a host who wanted to tell us about the hotel chain's "loyalty program". We told her that we were not interested in time-share, and she a[... read more]ssured us that this was not time-share. We agreed to go to a presentation the next day. Well, it turned out that it was in fact, time share. We wasted a few hours at the presentation, but it was the only 'negative' the entire week.
Our room was spacious with a large bathroom featuring a rainhead shower with ample room for two. It had dual sinks and a jacuzzi tub. The room faced out onto the courtyard and a pool. The balcony was spacious and had a comfy hanging chair, along with a small table and 2 more chairs. The bed was super comfortable, with lots of pillows. The room had A/C, a ceiling fan, and a dehumidifier. The room had a small fridge with beverages that were restocked every day, a safe, and lots of storage room. We stayed in an adults only building, and next door was an adults only pool. 5/5
The food was FABULOUS!! There was the buffet, barbeque, Japanese, steakhouse, and Mexican and Italian restaurants. There was a restaurant on the beach which served breakfast in the morning, and lunch until 5 PM. A number of the pools also had snack bars with delicious finger foods. We mostly ate at the buffet because the selection and quality of food was AMAZING! There also was a coffee shop with specialty coffees and teas and baked goodies that was open from early morning until 11:00 PM. Next door was an ice cream shop that was also open until 11. We can't say enough good things about the food and the choices!! 5+/5
The drinks were what you always get at an all-inclusive in Mexico. The better you tipped, the stronger the drinks were, lol. The only down side of the drinks were that it seemed that the resort used only sugar-free drink mixes which left an after taste that we didn't enjoy. Neither my wife nor I are heavy drinkers so it didn't affect our vacation much. 3\5
The grounds are immaculate! The resort is laid out like a small village. There is a main walkway from the front lobby to the beach, about a 10 minute walk. There was a shuttle running all day long if one didn't want to walk. The buildings with the rooms were set back from both sides of the walkway, with swimming pools on either side. Two of the pools had swim-up bars. There was a mangrove on the property, and one day we saw a monkey swinging thru the trees! We also saw other wildlife on the property, as well as some beautiful, colorful birds. The beach did have quite a bit of seaweed on it, but staff worked hard every day to keep the beach as clean as possible. We can't say enough about how clean the whole resort was. 5/5
The staff was friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to make our vacation a pleasant one. From our first day to the last, we never had anything but a great experience with the staff. 5/5
There was a show every night in the theater which we enjoyed immensely! The MC was entertaining, and the participants very talented! After the show, we would go to the piano bar in the lobby. The music was good, and we enjoyed ourselves every night. There is a small bowling alley, tennis courts, basketball court, and batting cage but we didn't make use of any of them. I proudly told my wife that I walked by the gym every day! Lol. On Thursday nights they have a market on the grounds with a large variety of artists and natives peddling their wares. We bought a few souvenirs and supported the locals. 2 thumbs up!!
To conclude, we would highly recommend this resort and would definitely return in the future. Thank you Ocean Rivieria Paradise for a wonderful vacation...we can't wait to go back!!

Ocean Riviera Paradise: 4 star resort - needs fine tuning
Stayed October 24 to October 31
Beach was good with a few rocks here and there - no seaweed at the time. water shoes would be a good idea
Food. 4 star. Main Buffet was ok. Nothing special. Beach buffet definitely needs better selection of food.
Drinks. 5 star. Top shelf liquor
Pools. 5 star for there size and numbers but way to loud at the party pool - music constantly pounding which carried through to other pool areas.
Rooms 3.5 star. Size and decor was good. But They all sme[... read more]ll musty. Had to relocate from initial room - second room was better - talked to other guests. Same complaint - other than that they were ok.
Restaurants - if they were open they were ok. Mexican restaurant worth skipping. Italian and blue moon was the best.
Most common areas are air conditioned. 5 star.
Massage would you like a massage. Heard this question at least 20 times a day. Lol.
Would I go back. Yes. Would I spend more than $1000 out of Toronto. No.
Things to do. Out the front doors of resort. Nothing close by. Take taxi to 5th avenue for shopping. 240 pesos or 15 US dollars.
Kids and families will love this place. Adults looking for quite time will not.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Loved Cuba, disappointed in our room.
I was very excited to finally get to go to Ocean Casa del Mar after having to cancel the first planned visit due to Hurricanes. The beach was beautiful, the resort was clean and well appointed. Unfortunately, we had issues with our room. When we turned on the ceiling fan we lost all the power to our room. My husband had to go to the front desk, they sent a technician who came to our room he checked out the issue. He went to the utility room and switched something and we had power again. However[... read more], we were not comfortable using the ceiling fan. Also, because our room was next to the utility room, there was a constant beeping at night which made it very difficult if not impossible to sleep. Two nights later we lost our power again. This time the technician they sent focussed on one of the bedside lamps, He dismantled it and removed the bulb. He got our power going again, but the constant beeping was still coming from the next room. I believe the resort should have offered to move us to a different room, but they did not.

Ocean Maya Royale: Fabulous Resort
Hotel was just the right size (not too large). Very well kept, rooms very clean and food was good. We also liked the Adults only atmosphere. We were a group of 4 ladies and loved everything. The animation team and shows were great. Everyone working at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach - could be the time of year. This wasn't an issue for us as we like staying at the pool most of the time.
Suggestions for Improvement - Put more signs up to[... read more] educate and deter people from feeding the wild animals. We had an issue with a racoon staying on our balcony all night He made a huge mess. We couldn't go outside. Fortunately we were able to move to the 1st floor. So many visitors think they're being kind feeding these critters but don't realize what a nuisance they can be.
Also, an extra mirror in the bedroom area would be helpful.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Ocean Riviera Paradise
Resort is clean, grounds beautiful, service not as good as can be expected for a 5 star resort. For example, we had to walk for 10 minutes to the reception area in pouring rain carrying all our luggage at 0600 hours in the morning in darkness all alone to check out. No one available to pick up luggage. We booked a tour with the Air Canada agent. On the morning of the tour we left at 630 am. Nothing open to get breakfast. We went hungry. There is a problem with excessive moisture in the r[... read more]ooms. There is a smell of mold/mildew in the rooms. We asked to switch room because the smell was unbearable and the next room had the same smell. The food was good. Too much targeting and sales tactics to get you to buy time share or tours or other things. Unable to walk off resort and go anywhere. Beach was filled with moss. Resort should clean it daily like other resorts do.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Nice and quiet!
The hotel its self is very nice...older but still kept it very clean. We went in October which is great because it's not packed and service is everywhere. Only cons... beach is short, and an upgrade to privilege isn't worth the costs. We were brought to a VIP breakfast on our first morning to which turned into "time share" type chat...60mins turned into 2.5hours. To which H10 wants you to get out a loan with them and travel within there resorts...ahhh no. Aside from that we'll more than lik[... read more]ely return to this resort. You can dine at all le carte restaurants without reservations if you'd like which is nice if you tired of buffet.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Great hotel experience!
I don't often write a review but I have been to Cuba a few times and if you are looking for a higher end experience this would be it. The food was really good and that is not something I have said about any of my Cuba vacation destinations. I stay away from beef but the kids ordered the fresh steak and we also ate a lot of fresh omelettes, seafood and pasta. The staff were very accommodating and the service was A+. I would highly recommend this resort especially if travelling with kids. The beac[... read more]hes in Santa Maria are all gorgeous. Lots of seashells for the kids. Lots of pools and a kid area for the parents if they wish to check in young ones. I didn't use this service but I would assume excellent as well. Staff were super friendly and hospitable. Overall I would give this resort a 4+ review and would not hesitate to go back or recommend. I did tip well so that likely helped and I did bring goodies to hand out to the maids each day. The staff will ask you for stuff but I only left the extra snacks I brought for the kids and my travel toiletries. I did visit the dollar store and brought some hair bands, nail polish, makeup etc. They do appreciate whatever you can leave behind.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Best beach in Cuba
Stayed Oct 2-9 and loved hurricane season! Weather was perfect so please ignore all the reports of rain.We may have had 5 minutes of rain during the day and some rain during the night. This resort is fairly new with beautiful rooms and very well laid out. There are 2 pool locations. The activities pool for games and music but also a section for quiet. On the other side of the resort is all quieter pools with a kids pool a reflection and a swim up bar.I saw workers in the pool scrubbing down the side[... read more]s and cleaning the bar area.
Food at the beach bar was great.BBQ wings ribs paella and hamburgers. The buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner had everything. The staff remembers you each day and has your table ready. Even the chef at the grills will ask you what you liked and then tells you he will make you a special meal and brings it to your table.Fabulous service!!
There was no restrictions on booking the al a cart.At 5:30ish you can make reservations for dinner that night.
Lobby bar had amazing entertainers before dinner and full shows at 9.
Overall this resort is the best in Cuba and we have been to cuba over 15 times and 7 different locations.
One thing you have to realize is that this location is for R&R and not for sightseeing. Santa Maria resorts are 90 minutes from the closest towns and the causeway is 49km long.Only tourists and workers are allowed here so please if you go meet the wonderful staff and have fun with all the other vacationers!

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Best Cuba experience.
Wife and really enjoyed our time in Santa Maira/Ocean del Mar. Best section of the beach, staffs were so friendly, and the weather was sunny and warm. The only part of the trip we didn’t care for was the 3 hours+ bus ride without WC stop.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Wish I would have known
Got to the hotel around noon but they won’t give you a room until after four. To make things worse they won’t give you a towel for swimming because the towels are strictly assigned to the rooms. So bring a towel for the first day. Plus, the theatre and 24 hour bar will fill the air with noise till the wee hours, so try to get a room far from “the actionâ€, if you like your sleep. Cassandra Brown at Tripcentral was great to work with !
