Our first trip to Cuba in 2 years ,what a beautiful way to kick Covid out!
We can’t say enough about this resort.
We arrived to tropical surroundings with well manicured grounds and flowers ,clean resort, efficient check in and friendly staff. Our room was fantastic! Clean , spacious and updated washroom. We met our housekeeper soon after we arrived. She introduced herself and was very welcoming and friendly. She was great at her job.
Paradisus is gorgeous! Beautiful pools, and beach. Ple[... read more]nty of chairs on the beach and around the pools. The resort was about 50% occupancy when we arrived but by the end of the week things had ramped up to considerably.
The food in all restaurants was great. We had no issues with anything. Service was efficient, well served, and friendly. The set up for Covid safety is well organized and sanitary. A change I would like to see continue . Most guests were more respectful to one another in the buffet than I have seen in the past.
Overall this was the nicest resort I have been to in Cuba!
For my 15th trip there I was very pleased. Everyone at the resort was great.
If your looking for a vacation to relax in a beautiful tropical setting this is it!

Melia Varadero: Wow, just 😲
We stay at the Melia Varadaro all inclusive resort from March 12-19, 2022. Wow.
The staff were very welcoming, helpful and very accommodating. The resorts grounds were clean, floors shiney, and the food was superb all around. The pork was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife and the steak was thin yet tender. Oh did I say how good the sweet potato soup was and the chicken soup, reminded me of my mom's homemade chicken soup. Did I say how awesome the staff were? The staff that should [... read more]receive a raise or at least the employees of the month award are
The resort was perfectly located, not to far away from the airport, a short 2 minute walk to a shopping center with an open market out back. We did two excursions, the Jeep tour and the all day Havana trip. Wow! An amazing time was had. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who is visiting and wants to experience Cuba. If I had to give this amazing resort some constructive criticism it would be the meat in the La'cart restaurant was a little bit salty but very tender and the buffets pasta was a bit strachy, all The other food was amazing.

Melia Internacional: A resort that has great potential
Physical aspects including buildings, rooms, grounds, and other facilities are both clean , well maintained and well designed.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable
Frontline staff in food areas, restaurants, bars, pool as well as cleaning staff were very pleasant and happy to please. However staff in customer relations were not helpful and abrupt .
Some attention to food variety as well as preparation is recommended to qualify this place as a five star resort

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful resort
Lovely resort, grounds and rooms. Very well maintained inside and out and their covid policies were very impressive and well regulated.
The food was average at best, but we could always find something we enjoyed. Entertainment was low key and slightly repetitive for the week we were there but there was some great live music artists.
The beach area was our FAVORITE. We snorkeled every day, although the shoreline was rough and rocky there was always somewhere to walk in and enjoy some active f[... read more]ish.
Staff was great, definitely bring tip money and keep in mind that alcohol stock is weak right now during Covid.
Our only serious complaint was the very blatent escorting happening between very old arrogant men and very young local girls. Gross and sad.

Melia Las Americas: Excellent resort
The hotel is old but very well kept with nice groomed grounds and the beach is best in class.
The food was excellent for Cuba standard at all the a la carte restaurants and at the buffet. Not as many selections like in the past years but considering Covid times we were very pleased and we always found something good to eat. The food at the BBQ restaurant by the pool was up our alley!
People were very nice and worked hard to please us. Thank you!
The room was cleaned daily
The only thing I d[... read more]id not like was that at the lobby bar there were certain drinks that were displayed but not served except if you were part of the Level. I did not see this anywhere else. Usually The Level or Diamond Club, etc at other resorts have separate bars with more expensive drinks.
One special thank you for Julio the entertainer who worked tirelessly to make sure people had fun around the lobby bar and outside patio. When Julio had a day off was a boring night! Thank you!

Melia Internacional: The Honest Truth... Amazing Stay
Everyone's expectations of a vacation is very different, not to mention what there experience has been. You must first have to understand that a 5 Star in Cuba is not the same as a 5 Star in Toronto, nor a 5 Star in New York not to mention a 5 Star in Honk Kong. If that was the case, NY and Toronto would rate a 1 or less to Hong Kong. That being said, the Hotel is situated in a great location. Walking distance to Varadero for shopping, restaurants, bars and night clubs. The beach was fantas[... read more]tic, very large and tons of space to relax and enjoy the sun. The water was crystal clear, soft sand and shallow for a good 40 - 50 feet in. Large Pools with entertainment, swim up bar and ample seating. I will say that probably due to Covid restrictions and the Hotel being at 50% capacity is why there was availability of chairs at the pool and beach. Red bar was great to sit out and enjoy coffee and drinks and smoke a cigar and closed around 1am. Blue bar on the other side of the lobby was open 24hrs. There were also the rooftop or 10th floor patio bars that were open but quiet due to the hotels guest limits, and there was a enclosed bar between the 2 bars on the 10th floor too. There is a gym and other amenities, but I didn't go there for those.
Now to the what everyone is always wanting to hear...FOOD. I personally was too busy having fun in Varadero and around the pools with other guests to book a time at the restaurants. I never knew where we would be at any given time, to book a time slot at the restaurants. Though I did hear from other guests that there meals in the a-la carte restaurants were very good. Maybe not to our standards in Toronto, but never the less enjoyable. Having gone to the buffet for the entire 7 day stay and gain 5 LBs coming home. They had great BBQ/Grilled chicken that was amazing, think I went twice for that. Fish is always an abundance and good. The grill meat selection was pork chops, chicken breast, sausages, pork strips and beef burgers. Pasta is pasta, no alfredo sauce but still good. Bread was fresh and somedays lacking butter. Salad, not that guy, so passed on that. Ice cream and deserts were the same. Never went wrong with breakfast, took care of my guy and he took care of me. 5 egg whites with cheese and bacon, or anything else you wanted to put in your omelet or eggs. They had breads, pastries, donuts, pancakes or more like thicker crapes, but none the less enough to get you going for the morning. There's other stuff that is pre-prepared that you can get but I stayed away from that, like my food fresh of the grill. Lunch, well I ,missed most of it as I was at the beach or pool so I made use of the 24hr restaurant which was burgers, ham and cheese, hot dogs and pulled pork somedays. Wish they had fries there, would of been great at 5am in the morning. Keep in mind that 2 of the restaurants were closed due to limits on the resorts occupancy and Covid distancing. Buffet there were no restrictions to seating just had to wait to be served by someone to put the food on your plate which took sometime. Probably would have had huge lineups if there were more people on the resort too.
The staff, everywhere on the resort were fantastic. Always accommodating and willing to help. You will find the odd few that speak very good English and make you feel at home and are pleasant to talk to in English.
Overall, we had a great time, no one got sick and looking forward to come back there again and make more use of the beach. LOL

Tryp Cayo Coco: Nice Resort
We enjoyed our stay for the most part at this resort. The grounds were clean and maintenance was being done. We spent most of our time at the beach which was beautiful. When we arrived, all the ala carte’s were picked for us for the week which we were happy for. We were told that the local Cubans would be coming and that it would be busy. She wasn’t kidding. The buffet was unmanageable, I have never seen anything like it. I practically got trampled in line at one point. People reaching over [... read more]my head and hollering to the poor soul serving the food. One women stepped right in front of me. I put my plate down and left because at that point I had already been in the line for 1/2 hr. The gentleman who was making toast on the grill had around 24 slices on it. One person wanted 12 slices and the other person wanted the other twelve and the server gave it to them. Again I put my plate down and left. Next day I went to get in line for an omelette. The person ahead of me ordered 6 omelettes, I couldn’t believe he wasn’t told that that is not acceptable. It took 1 hr for me to get one omelette. The Ala Carte was great and the service was phenomenal. Osmony was top notch as were the ladies who served drinks in the evening. It was just overwhelming and exceptionally loud. even in the ala Carte. We felt we should have been told in advance that this was going to happen, we would have never have booked at this time. We won’t be going back.

Melia Las Americas: Good resort
Overall I was pleased with this resort, at this time time there were a lot of shortages mostly due because of covid. However the staff did the best . The only complaint I would have is with the baroque area by the swimming pool, the first try I had to wait 2.5 hours to eat a meal the second try and they served me raw pork and the wait staff were very upset when I sent it back so avoid this restaurant and your time at this hotel will very good.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Cuba Reopening
Excellent service, friendly staff, lovely pools and beach and food selection adequate with wonderful pastries. Showers were cool but gradually got warmer, also. Last resort on the strip so first for pick up to airport and any excursions and last to be dropped off. You could see everything improving each day. Doing well with shortages throughout Cuba.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Amazing!!!!
We stayed March 2nd-9th,2022. We had a wonderful time on this beautiful resort! Only 354 rooms so very intimate and easy to get around! The grounds are lush and well maintained and the rooms are big and clean! King size bed was a nice surprise and comfortable! The shower was awesome as well! All staff were friendly and attentive and the entertainment was lovely! The beach is rather rocky in front but a short walk leads you to beautiful swimming where the turquoise water meets the sand! Great fo[... read more]r snorkelling right out front if not too windy. The food was impressive! Presentation was great too! Be sure to book at the Japanese Restaurant! Request the Teppanyaki table when booking for a fun, inclusive experience! There was no Vodka on the resort for our stay. Luckily someone had mentioned this prior to our arrival so we bought our own at duty free on the plane! There is a cute little beach and a salt water pool at the Spa where you can spend the day if you book. No food or bar fyi. There is a separate from the spa Massage Hut right on the ocean edge! Be sure to book a one hour full body massage and reflexology during your stay! We had Shelley and she was INCREDIBLE!!!! We met some really great people during our stay and rocked the Disco! So much fun!! Also would be a great spot for couples seeking some romance as there are many little spots to call your own! Great little Gem and we will definately be back!!

Melia Las Antillas: Cuba and Cubanos are wonderful BUT
The Melia Las Antillas is a very nice property and resort! I think the four star rating is an accurate reflection for the most part. I will provide more detail.
To qualify this review I will advise my wife and I have been travelling to Caribbean, Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras and other Central America for 40 plus years and approximately 50 trips. I will ensure that I compare apples to apples. This was our first trip to Cuba.
The Melia Las Antillas in Varadero Cuba is a nice 4* resort with go[... read more]od facilities and a beautiful beach. The resort is starting to show some sign of age but is very clean and well kept. Entrance and lobby area are welcoming and present well. The staff at check in and check out were excellent and efficient. Most spoke English quite well so communication not an issue.. We stayed in a junior suite ocean view on fifth floor for a very reasonable price and this included a concierge service. Elizabeth was our concierge and did a remarkable job. She worked long hours and always went out of her way to assist us and offer her expertise and services. I know I am speaking for many who received Elizabeth's special service..
The room was clean with excellent maid service from Nuceris. Room nothing special but compares well with similar 4 * resort. Very clean, no bugs, comfortable bed with OK sitting area. Adequate washroom and shower. Small patio to sit out for two people only.
The pool is quite large clean and well set up for some sports and activities. Music around the pool was reasonable with some variety and common sense.
Night time entertainment shows were typical. Couple good with a couple not so much....only my opinion.....LOL
Travelled in to Varadero and we felt safe and welcomed. taking a ride around in one of the old convertibles is a nice diversion.
Currency issues have to be rectified. The official rate for C$ to CUP is 18.5 to 1. On the bus to resort "guide" is offering 30 to 1. In town 50 to 1 and I even heard 70 to 1 was being offered. American $ widely accepted and some stores only have their prices in Us $??? Most Cuban stores in Varadero do not accept CUP.
CUP is Cuban peso official currency. This is frustrating and a pain when you are on vacation. Fix this!
The beaches of Cuba are spectacular and even nice/ safe to swim in with soft white sand. The beach we were on Tainos Beach and Vardero beach are both spectacular with beautiful aquamarine colours.
Cubanos (Cuban people) are very, very, very nice and I must admit comparatively the most genuinely friendly and accommodating of all the places I have visited. I don't like to generalize but I did feel the warmness.
The food issue is real. Lack of variety and some quality issues ....again comparatively to other similar resorts in sunny south. Lack of fruit and salads for sure. Now we could always find something good to eat but a lot of chicken and pork every day. Seafood and fish not as good as I had hoped. When evaluating you have to keep in mind they are preparing food for Canadians, Cubans, Poland, Russia, Argentine, Greeks that we met and undoubtedly many other nationalities we did not meet. So many pallets to satisfy! Positive notes I ate lobster twice.
They also hosted a wonderful outdoor lunch pig roast...and chicken of course at an outside area with live band entertainment that was greatly enjoyed by most.
Received excellent dining and bar service from Robert, Elio, Dayli, Yordan at pool bar restaurant, omelet cooks and fresh grill cooks.
The price comparing apples to apples is approximately $200. C$ per person less expensive in Cuba with the shorter flight time being a positive as well.
Soooooo I hope this helps. We will probably not return ....only because the food is not to standard.

We had a great holiday this resort is well taken care of a beautiful pool and beach area. We went on Feb 26th for 1 week the hotel was at 20% capacity so you had your pick of beds on the beach and the pool. If you like shade there are not too many shady options at the pool. We liked the food at the a la cartes we did the Japanese, International and the Italian twice. The buffet is good and the staff at this resort are all amazingly helpful and always smile. Our room was comfortable with lots o[... read more]f hot water and the air conditioning worked well. There were some shortages due to Covid from what we were told no ketchup, chicken the last few days of the trip, no Gin or Vodka only Cuban liquor. It did not ruin our holiday depending on what you drink.

Sol Varadero Beach: Great resort!
The rooms were clean and modern with AC! I did think the buffet was better then any a la carte, the food was not the best. Beach view is beautiful! Not a party resort but great for relaxing and enjoying a drink! Not a lot of young age group population (19-25) still had a great time though.
