Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: A Home Away From Home

From arrival to departure, everything at this hotel exceeded our expectations. The front reception was courteous and efficient. Our room wasn't ready but they checked us in and gave us directions to buffet for lunch. We were in building 3 on the ground floor steps from the beach. We dined at every restaurant except the Japanese and the food was delicious. We even had hot, cooked to order room service on our deck. The beach was clean and there were plenty of loungers. The drinks were delicious  [... read more]and beach service was outstanding. Make sure you snorkel off the beach in front of Secrets and swim with the turtles. I can't wait to go back!

Selection Riviera Cancun: Great family experience

We are a family of five: 2 adults and 3 kids (1-5-8 y/o). The resort is very kid friendly. Lots of activities for all. Kids club was friendly, fun, clean and active. Kids loved the programming and nightly activities. Supervised care starts at 4 y/o. Babies and small kids can go to activities in the morning with their caregivers. They can also use the kid space and play with toys. The water park/splash pad for children is good for hours of fun. Convenient to have a pizza restaurant right next to  [... read more]it so kids can have a quick lunch or snack after playing. The rooms are ok. Adult bed was not so comfortable and the older kids slept on a pull out couch which was ok for kids but wouldn't have worked for adults. Very uncomfortable. The baby had a crib and they supplied a bottle warmer and bottle sterilizer which was great. The balcony had a nice bench with pillow to lounge outside. our hot tub did not fill all the way due to a dysfunctional drain. The pools and beaches are amazing. Some Beach toys are kept in the little cabanas so no need to bring them. The food was great. Restaurants never too full to get a seat. Some places get a bit busy for breakfast. We loved the Mexican restaurant for breakfast. The staff is amazing. All very friendly, helpful, smiling and abundant in numbers. The grounds are kept impeccably and are perfect for strolling around barefoot after a pool or beach visit. I highly recommend this resort to families with children. If you have back issues, you might want to ask for a seperate mattress to put on the floor. The beds were the only negative in my opinion . Great experience!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great Place

Food was great. Service terrific. Very peaceful & relaxing resort. Pleasant very Quiet rooms . Nice beach area. Pools go on forever. Many choices for dining, all good. Staff is very friendly. If you did have a problem, someone was there within 5 minutes to take care of it.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: Loved every minute!

This is our second time at the Iberostar Pariso Lindo. We will only stay at an Iberostar. They have amazing service, great selection of food and the rooms and the grounds ammaculate. We have 4 kids (2 teens and 2 younger ones). The teens kept busy at the beach, pool, lazy river, activity and quiet pool. My little ones loved the kids club and I cannot say enough good things about all the staff. The beach was amazing with great waves, and white sand. Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Amazing

Everything was top notch from the grounds to the pools to the bars and restaurants. The food was so delicious everywhere I gained 10 lbs . I would not hesitate to return to the Royalton a third time .

Catalonia Playa Maroma: Lush tropical resort!

This is an amazing resort for a 4*. Beautiful gardens, always kept the grounds immaculous, people working hard each day to ensure all areas are cleanm, tidy, dry, etc. Were given a priviledged room for the same price, but without the inclusions for this type of room. We were OK with their proposal. Room was modern, very clean, always well kept (bathroom, bedding, ...). The rooms facing inside court has beautiful gardens and water fountains. The A la carte restaurants w [... read more]ere very good - One of these restaurants converted into a small buffet for lunch but did not offer a wide variety of foods, but it was ok. The Creperie restaurant, which also served various ice cream deserts, was good. The pool area was ok, the pool itself, however, was small compared to the ones I've seen in other resorts. And it needs to be freshen up with a coat of paint. The pool also has a shallow end for the ones with little kids. The beach! Wow! This is the best beach I've ever been at in Riviera Maya, the water is so clear and warm, a few waves, and always very clean. The sand is floury, also like icing sugar. There are a few palapas on one side which are reserved for Priviledge Rooms, but on the other side, plenty of chairs, no need to wake up early to reserve one. Many palm trees on the beach, so you can relax in the shade all day if you want. Amazing! On the grounds, there is a long main pathway, all covered with magnificent trees to provide shade (which is great on very hot sunny days), and runs from pool area to lobby and connects to all villas. There are also a few boutiques on the site but be aware that they don't accept american money. All your purchases are added to your bill to be paid on check-out. We had an amazing, restful vacation and would recommend this hotel.

Oh Cancun The Urban Oasis: OH!...NO!...bring ear plugs and ear muffs or go deaf

This is by far the noisiest hotel i have ever stayed at. i stayed from jan 26 to feb 2, 2017 Traffic: the hotel is situated near the busiest intersection of central cancun that connects three major arterial roads. there is a constant roar of mufferless heavy trucks, buses, taxis, motorcycles...etc. there are 8 lanes of traffic directly in front of the hotel and not just passing by, but the stop and go of accelerating and then squealing brakes. traffic starts early in the morning and continue [... read more]s on to 20:00hrs plus at night. if you have a street facing room...you're toast. The crazy hot coyote disco/sports bar/night club: loud thumping music starts early in the evening and goes on to 23:00hrs. the bar was mostly empty the week that i was there, so they must be losing money on that venue. if you have a room near the club, be prepared to be lifted out of bed by the trumping beat. this is a basic problem if you're staying at the OH section. avoid room 25 (just beside and above the bar and facing the street), because if you get that room...you're a goner...as in gone crazy without rest...i guess that's were the name "crazy" coyote comes from. The pool side Rave music. i was first placed in room 25 and spent the first night there and immediately asked for a change the next day. staff was attentive and moved me to the "quiet side" facing the pool...but not so quiet. I was at first relieved to be away from the traffic and the crazy bar when moved to room 47. the morning was like an oasis of tranquility because the building and trees act like a sound barrier and the traffic becomes an acceptable dull roar, but that afternoon it all changed due to the boom boom music of the pool stage. starting around 13:00 the racket didn't stop until 22:00...boom boom boom boom...all day long and all week long. not that there was anyone listening to the noise. the clientele was mostly older people and no one was dancing...except the two juniors who were making all the noise. it was so noisy that i would not eat at the pool side restaurants and i abandoned the hotel during the day to seek refuge at one of the sister hotels. requests to stop or lower the volume fell on deaf ears...maybe deaf because of the boom boom music. who ever hear of a disco tech/rave concert in the middle of an oasis? well you have now and if you want to experience that, book a week here...you're guaranteed to regret it. The rattling A/C unit: think you can lessen the boom boom music noise by closing the patio doors? no solution there. the room will heat up quickly because of the noon day sun facing the pool side of the building. the a/c unit's bearings are worn out. the racket coming from that unit will wake the dead. and if you don't turn it on you're going to cook. that's where the "hot" part of crazy hot coyote comes from. this was not just a issue with rooms 47 and 25 but there were workers changing/fixing the a/c units at other rooms as well. if you try to enjoy some fresh air by opening the balcony door...boom boom boom is in your room. another issue with the a/c unit is that the water exhaust makes the balcony wet the whole time. on room 47 the water was left to flow across the balcony to the drain on the other end of the balcony, while on room 25 they tried to do something about it and there is a plastic pipe across the middle of the balcony directing the water to the drain at the opposite end. be careful not to trip. Not all bad: If you can handle all of that. then by all means you'll have a good holiday because the rooms themselves are modern and tastefully done. the bedding was terrific. maid service was excellent, with a nightly turn down service and little chocolates left by the staff. the decor around the hotel is zen like and inviting. the pool area is beautiful and the night lighting is very romantic. the breakfast buffet was more than acceptable and service is great. (accept getting a good tea, which is a mexico problem, so bring your own tea bags) there's lots of security guards all over the hotel, so there no worries there. the staff is very helpful (as are all mexicans). the central location is marvelous, close to buses, shopping centers, food markets, hospitals...exploring cancun was a real adventure. i loved it. Restaurants: restaurants are everywhere, with all types of food, and lots close to the hotel. eating with the mexicians is almost free because of the low cost. i like mexican food, so eating at a cantina was normal. there are no skinny mexicans and i take from that the food is all good, so there's no reason for you to be hungry. if you wish to have a change in diet then there is every kind of american fast food type you can imagine. Transportation: public buses were 11 pesos and run late into the night. taxis will first give you gringo pricing, which mean you need to negotiate. walmart from the hotel was 30 peso, but the driver started out at 50...maybe 30 was too much. of course it's healthier to walk, but look out for the sidewalk and their broken pavement. this is caused mostly by tree roots up heaving the cement rather than age caused disrepair. the beach bus: the beach shuttle takes about 30 minutes and there are two choices to go to, both sister omni hotels. i found the oasis cancun the better of the two hotels. i've stayed there three times before so i knew my way around. leaving the downtown oasis at 10:30 and 12:00 and returning at 16:00, 17:30 and 18:00. the bottom line is: COME ON OASIS...you can do better than that! oasis has the right employee team, a good building, a central location but management has cancelled all the positives by creating the noise problems. instead of dealing with the road noise, management has added to the problem. close the crazy hot coyote, no one is coming there anyway. get rid of the pool DJ boom boom music and put on a nature music CD, you'll save money on the DJs. I spoke to numerous managers during my stay, all to no avail. i like the oasis hotel chain, but at the OH they have a hotel that gives them a bad name. if nothing is done this hotel is headed for bankruptcy and you'll all be out of a job. too bad for the hard working employees because it's not their fault. i would not return unless the noise issues were address and i can not recommend this hotel. Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: It was all well until departure day

Our 10 night stay at the Royal Decameron was great - the food was great, the staff was very helpful as well as courteous, and the entertainment was fun to watch and participate in. We would return to this complex. There was an issue: On the departure date, a Saturday- (is that a good day to depart?) - the shuttle was to arrive and pick us up at 0920, but never arrived until 1010, loaded with Vancouver departees, and traffic was slowed to a crawl. We were supposed to depart the airport prior [... read more] to those Vancouver bound, but they were given three check in lines, and we were left waiting with no Winnipeg check in line for over two hours. There was one line for Calgary. Finally, we got closer to the air transat check in, the computer crashed, and we waited again. It was nobody's fault, and the tech support got it up and running again. Our flight was to leave at 1300, and we waited.....and at departure time, still waited without a boarding pass Leaving the resort early wasn't early enough if that's the way we're treated. But had to rush through the secure side to get to our flight. Luckily, the plane waited for us and the remaining passengers before leaving. Plane door was closed at 1330. Airborne at 1345. Our suggestion: would you organize this departure better, including individual shuttles for each destination - a single shuttle each for Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, and enough time then to eat a lunch - or browse at the airport.... It can be done and be easier on the nerves if the destinations are kept separate instead of all on one bus.

Costa Club Punta Arena: Resort Okay, Construction Not

For your information I have sent the following letter to Air Canada Vacations, I have received an acknowledgement that they have received it but still waiting for an official response from them: This message is intended for Air Canada Vacations. Our trip was booked early in January to the Costa Club Punta Arena Puerto Vallarta. The hotel was only a 3 star so we did not expect more than we got for this, it was a clean and friendly place to stay and the staff were very good. My complaint i [... read more]s that there was construction of a new wing of rooms ongoing at the resort every single day we were there, and our booking company did not mention that this was ongoing. I have booked with them many times, and have always been informed if there were any issues to be expected so I can only assume they were not aware of it either. It was almost impossible to sit by the pool in the late morning, and late afternoon due to the jack hammering and pounding that was non stop. I am disappointed that as a tour operator, this type of information wasn't provided to us so we could have either expected it, or perhaps booked at an alternate location. I expect this type of information to be relayed to your package sellers so they can advise customers what to expect, especially when its that close to the amenities, literally right by all of the pools. I hope that if I book any Air Canada Vacations in the future that I am informed of this type of activity so I can decide if I want to make other arrangements. My NO Recommendation below is in regards to the construction.

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Incredible Resort

Just got back a few weeks ago from this resort and I can honestly say it is the nicest resort I have ever been to. We went with a group of friends and we all agreed we would go back! Very clean from the rooms to the grounds, excellent choice of foods from the buffets to the 8 (or more?) a la cartes. Beautiful beaches and pools including a salt water pool off the ocean in which you can swim with the fish! The place is massive so be prepared to do some walking, but it was great in helping work [... read more] off a few extra pounds. The booze was all premium name brands at all the bars (no cheap knock off brands). The one pool at Kantenah is about 5'6 deep which was odd...I had to piggyback my wife to the swimup bar all the time lol. Occidental Costa Cancun: Great week at Occidental Costa Cancun! January 30-February 6, 2017.

We have nothing but goods things to say about Occidental Costa Cancun. We booked a last minute trip, so it was a super saver room which was a little scary, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and they restocked the mini fridge daily with Corona, Corona light, assorted soft drinks and bottled water. The cleaned the room daily and replaced the linens in the bathroom daily. There was plenty of hot water. The grounds were well kept as were the public washro [... read more]oms( cleaned several times daily). The food at the buffet was good and plentiful. The Oriental, Italian, and Mexican A La Carte restaurants were good as well ( you have to make reservations at the A La Carte restaurants so you have to been at the front desk by 7:00 am to get an early seating for dinner). We would not hesitate to recommend Occidental Costa Cancun to our family and friends.

Occidental Tucancun: 4 star resort with 5 star service!

Very clean, great location in the heart of the hotel zone. Located right by the mall which would certainly appeal to some travelers especially on a rainy day. The service was top notch and we were always attentively looked after by restaurant, bar and room staff. The lobby bar was always a nice way to end the evening with Marcos and Jose taking wonderful care of us every night! hotel was beautiful, tram rides were no big deal and the drivers were great. the a la carte restaurants were the best I've seen at any resort, the staff were excellent and very helpful. first room we had was near the stage and was loud ,asked to move and was not a problem. only complaint would be food at the buffets tended to be not very hot

Food was amazing, entertainment was outstanding, trolly to beach and other resorts was very reliable and frequent. Beach was beautiful and most service met our expectations. Rooms were average, nothing special, check-in was slow, didn't get our room until 330 pm. Service at pool restaurant was very slow.

Grand Oasis Cancun: Everything I expected - Awesome place!

Where should I start. After reading the reviews online, I was hesitant to stay at the Grand Oasis. I would like to say do not read or believe the negative reviews because they are probably written by miserable people. This place does not disasspoint. It caters to everyone - young and old. This hotel is a compound and it has so much stuff to do all the time. The beach, entertainment, drinks, food, room, and staff we're phenomenal. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Great resort!

Overall, my husband and I loved this resort. We were in need of a relaxing get away and this resort was the perfect choice. We got the room with the whirlpool tub off the patio. It was great. We used it at least once and often twice a day. We were there the first week of February so there were a couple of cooler days so the whirlpool was nice. The food and service were great as well. We ordered room service one night and were pleasantly surprised. For the most part, it was a quiet resort as  [... read more]most people there were over the age of 40. I would not recommend this if you are looking for a party resort. This would not be for you. The trolley system is great too. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the beach area but we did not find that in inconvenience as the ride there was interesting. The was usually various wildlife you could see along the way suchas lizards, birds, turtles, alligators etc. We would go back to this hotel but only during the cooler months their since it is away from the water and would expect it to be much hotter during their summer time.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Amazing resort !!!

Great hotel all around not much bad to say about it !!! Very large resort, lots to do, great food selection, drinks, pools are cold but very easy to look past, great service, good walking beach some seaweed but not unbearable !! Would highly recommend adults section. Great entertainment, nightly and daily. Well laid out and far away from family section if that's the type of trip your on. Would also be great with families as well. Swim ups are very nice if you get one facing sun side.

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Beautiful resort

The El Dorado Seaside Suites resort is a beautiful, well-maintained resort with very friendly staff. The food was delicious and the pool bar served great drinks. The resort is about 90 minutes from the airport.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Great Vacation

Last year we stayed at the resort next door....The Grand Palladium. Although we had a great time last year, we found The Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya to be better. Our rooms were within a 5 minute walk of beaches, pool, restaurants, lazy river, coffee shop, bar, etc. The staff were excellent. Attentive and remembered our standard orders. Although tipping wasn't required at this inclusive we wanted to as they were so wonderful. The coffee shop was great and for us coffee drinkers offered supe [... read more]rior coffee to the restaurants. Our only complaint would be that it didn't open until 8am. The snorkeling right off the beach was great. We saw turtles, parrot fish, blue angel fish, just to name a few. The resort was well kept from landscaping to beach front to rooms...well done. They had a lovely bar on top of the a la carte restaurants that offered live music before and after entertainment. We had no problem getting into a la carte restuarants even with requesting a table for 12. The only things we did not enjoy was the nightly entertainment, last years resort was much better and the buffet. There was not alot of variety and after 10 days we were ready to go home to our own food. Overall though we enjoyed The Grand Sirenis better.

Tropicana Hotel: Great value resort with the best location in Old Town Puerto Vallarta!

The Tropicana resort is very good value for money. Great pool, great beach, excellent location, and very good prices on food and drink. It is basic accommodation, but clean and well maintained. If you want a good hotel in the perfect location, I recommend it!
