Paradisus Rio De Oro: Wonderful Atmosphere, Staff and Entertainment

The Paradisus is a lovely hotel but it is truly the staff that make this hotel a 5 Star in Cuba. Everyone from the gardeners, security, servers, bar staff, entertaiment and chefs make this resort a 5 Star. We travel to Cuba for its beautiful beaches, its people and the music. The entertainment staff: Jennifer, Livan, Lorenzo, Annabelle, Osorio, Alejandro went out of their way to keep the guests entertained without being pushy. The bartenders: Yander, Lorenzo and Damisel were always smiling  [... read more]and accommodating. The chefs at the buffet restaurant: Yolando and Carlos were always happy and ready to serve your meal to your preference. The live music from the Cuban musicians/bands, on a regular basis during lunch time and in the evening, were exceptional. The rooms were always cleaned very well and the maintenance crew attended to any issues immediately. The hotel rooms could benefit from being renovated. Overall there was always a good selection of restaurants and food to eat. We liked that most of the facilities were centrally located around the lobby which meant that guests did not have far to walk to get to any of the restaurants or entertainment.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Average resort

The resort was fairly well maintained and the staff was very good. The beach was amazing and everyone very helpful. Always fresh beach towels and chairs available. Buffet was repetitive and by the end of the week we were very tired of it. The grill food was good however the same thing each day. The alacarts were ok but we did not like the Asian night. We were definitely not happy with the huge cockroach my daughter found in her shower towel and the ones on the walls of the buffet. They do not sp [... read more]ray for mosquitos and even spraying yourself will not stop these beasts from biting. Although an adequate resort I will not return.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Good resort, with some areas to improve

Overall, hotel Club Amigo Guardalavaca is good for 3 stars, they improving, I noticed more freshly squeezed juices, very nice, or wholewheat bread, which is also very good. As more people in Canada now try to eat healthy, nice to see that healthy attitude at the resort. Ocean is amazing, water is crystal clear, when no big waves. I love this long open walkway along the ocean and 2 hotels CA and Breezas. Even used a gym this time (cycling machine). By some reason scooters disappeared, very few [... read more] of them, and was presented a new rule – offer them with almost empty tank. Take scooter and then go search for a fuel? How crooked it is! This is a possibility for a staff to steal a gas leftovers from the scooters. Please do the effort, offer the scooters with a full tank of gas! Negative point is July and August is vacation time for Cubans. There were just too many of them. Have an impression that they allow more Cubans in a room than foreigners. When foreigners occupy 1-2 per room, Cubans come as 5-6 in a room, and that is not right. Thats why it feels overcrowded. To be honest, what is every tourist don’t like – is how some Cuban guests behave – noisy, trying to cut you off in a line everywhere. It is unpleasant and annoying. Staff should be trained to keep the line and to not support the Cubans cutting you off. Teach staff to do it. I support restricting people bringing their bags in cafeteria. People should not take the food out. Good move. Variety of the food is not big, but its Ok with me, as long as it is cooked well, and mostly it is. I would suggest to add more spices, sauces to the buffet, would be nice to see some jerk, masala (in liquid form). Thumbs up to animation team, they trying hard, they do good job. Also the concern is with new hotel building beside the Club Amigo - the beach is small, it will be crammed, they need to expand the beach, which can lead to very little space to the local public.

Sol Turquesa Beach: The best resort ever

First I just wanna thank monika for recommending this resort it was amazing the best the rooms where clean the drinks the water was fresh. I didn’t even have any problem with the flight every thing went smooth. It. Am planning on on booking a new one with tripcentral because they always give the best customer service

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Resort was nice

Beautiful beach the pool was nice the staff was nice the grounds were clean. Not enough restaurants opened at night(off season I guess) but the ones that were opened were edible for Cuba standards. Buffet did not like at all. Only morning for breakfast was good.

Playa Pesquero: Great resort!!!

Everything was amazing. Well except the few cockroaches in my room. But that is normal for such a climate. Just so you know... the bus ride is an hour now from the airport. They closed off the shortcut.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Lush & tropical

The grounds are beautiful, lush & tropical. We stayed in a ground level villa, with a patio looking out to the ocean. This section is much better than the hotel section. Its more quiet, spacious & closer to the beach by Brisas. We preferred this area of the beach, less busy than Amigos side. You can't use the chairs on this side though because they belong to Brisas. Its quite a large resort with several pools too. The rooms were ok, AC worked great. Staff was friendly & most spoke some English. [... read more] We tipped wait staff & house cleaning. They really appreciate it & deserve it. The Russians & Cubans don't tip unfortunately, thats what i observed. The buffet had plenty of food. Typical Cuban style, not a big variety. Cuba is not for foodies that expect amazing food. You can also dine in the restaurants. Dinner time needed a reservation. We mixed it up. El Benny was the restaurant we went to often. The water from the bar & restaurants are safe to drink. There are also 2 water fountains to refill your water bottles. 1 is in Jessica's patio in lobby area & 1 in the gym. Good idea to bring water bottles & mugs for refills. So much wasted plastic cups. I enjoyed my time at the resort, loved the beach. Great value for what i paid. I would definitely return for the right price.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Great Resort !

Been to Varedero 4-5 times, Holguin and Pardisisus De Oro is far better ! Great beach, white dusty sand, require beach shoes as some areas are rocky but lots of areas of no rocks, snorkeling ok , scuba diving nearby . Majority of the staff at the resort speak excellant English and go out of their way to accomodate you and provide excellant service. First time in Cuba. Would go again. So very hot so in pool all day !! So many places to visit on this vast planet of ours - choose wisely , always a reason to go somewhere different - Cuba was a great choice .

Huge resort multi level lots of stairs but accessible to everyone Many pathways and shortcuts to get around shuttle service to beach or room Beautiful lobby but in need for some tlc especially for those couches! bar service is great but hard to get the diamand shelf liquors they will offer you Mulata brand telling you that it’s the same !!Orlando makes good drinks ! Beach is lovely no need to stress for lounches or palapa there are many of them,diamant beach section was a little boring so we spend more time in the other side we’re it was lively with music people and food burger shak do something about it please! Snack bar always no food maybe if we were lucky a hotdog with no bun or French fries no ketchup but mustard only ! Still it was like you were asking too much ! Animation team I dint get to meet them in this vacation they spended more time at the pool during the day at night there was no sign of them ! Verry dull nights my goodness we need some music a band in courtyard we’re people can dance and mingle! Only 3showes a week a caraokee night and carnival which was out from the resort transportation provided still after 11 resort was already asleep beside younger crowd who got the disco untill 2 am! Overall we enjoyed the beach and made the best of it .

Brisas Guardalavaca: Disappointed

Based on my good memories of the Brisas when I first visited 10 years ago, I returned this past June. Wow, what a disappointment. I had a nice vacation because I pushed past the irritations and enjoyed what I came for: the beach. But even that was reedy; there are beaches in Cuba far nicer, and resorts far better, than this. Something happened in these 10 years. The Brisas of my memory was a beautiful, peaceful, gracious international resort. This was a noisy, crowded local hotel - pe [... read more]rhaps because it is on the edge of town. Families came in groups of three or four up to a dozen or more, filling the pools with inflatable unicorns the size of tugboats; emptying entire trays of food in the buffet; packing the elevators to capacity; playing duelling boomboxes along the beach. Lineups were deceiving. That one person ahead of you in line for churros would walk away with six or eight plates-full. Otherwise: Food: Pretty ok. You shouldn't go hungry, but you can do better. Room: The initial room was right over the kitchen, which emitted a constant, high-pitched hum. Separated from the adjoining room by a thin door, there was no sound barrier, no privacy. It was at the end of a long hallway where the lights were out so that it was pitch dark at night. The TV offered just a few blurry channels. After complaining, was moved to a self-contained room (not adjoining) with full TV reception (why would service vary between rooms?) Service: OK; a bit grumpy. A/C: Working well enough, though you cannot control. Value: Things that used to be free are now sold. It costs $20 CAN for a room safe. Bottled water is sold, not stocked (except for an initial bottle.) Watch every business transaction carefully, particularly with hotel charges. They'll quote you a fee and then, when you count your change and find it short, they'll tell you the fee they quoted was an approximation; the actual fee was higher. This happened a few times. Be diligent when exchanging your $$ too. Upkeep: Wow, is this place dirty. Lounge chairs are covered in bird droppings - check before you sit down. Garbage is everywhere. The beach is littered with plastic cups, straws and beer cans - in the sand, floating in the water, even in the pools. This place has security guards posted every few yards throughout the property (which begs the question: is there a security problem, or would there be without them?) I can't help but think they might better allocate some of those resources to scrubbing the chairs. It pains me to have to write a negative review. But, since I first visited Cuba 10 years ago, I have been to resorts far superior to this. In Holguin alone there are some spectacular places in the same price range.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Will NOT be returning

I’ll try to keep it concise for you. The room had cockroaches 3 nights in a row. A/C broke down and it took a lot of complaining to get someone to fix. The hose for the shower broke twice. Small bathroom would be challenging for larger people and it was still tight for regular sized folks. Did not receive a la carte dinners until enough people complained (3 were advertised and received only 2). Food was bland and every day the same food was offered. The pool was un-swimmable for the first 3 da [... read more]ys (green with algae). Service was great from the staff if only you tip them each and every time. Mosquitos every night felt like we were on the menu. The resort overall was dated and starting to look run down. The one good thing was the beach but the ocean tide was bringing in a lot of seaweed. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO MEMORIES HOLGUÍN.

Brisas Guardalavaca: The good and the bad

We were satisfied with the room , but not with the food and with the buffet restaurant. The resort had more Cuban tourists than usual , and some of them made this place worse: they were not waiting in line, they were littering the place and the beach, they were very noisy

Sol Turquesa Beach: Good value for the price...very green, huge property

Beach: clear water, white sand, some weed spots in the water, sufficient shade area Pools: 4 pools for all ages Service: kitchen servers are very friendly, bar servers only a few are friendly. Food: in June the hotel was more than half empty, food quality good, variety medium Room: large nice room, new mattresses, few times had issues with cold or hot water, later it got fixed Value: good value, reflects 4 stars correctly Location: one-hour bus drive from the airpor [... read more]t Lots of stairs or climbs, not suggested with mobility problems, beautiful green garden, bring mosquito repellents for nights, lots of walks. Not worthy to buy the diamond club package, not much difference. Clean, open dining places, but cats and birds are coming into the dining area.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Established resort

This hotel (adults only) is run really well, and all staff work as a clockwork. Food is always fresh with a good selection of fresh vegetables and fruits. At lunchtime, in buffet restaurant they offer a variety of fish, seafood, chicken and meat cooked by your order. There are also several a-la-cart restaurants. The grounds are vast and very well maintained. Night entertainment is first class starting with a professional piano player and then continued with another two artists or bands. Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Cuban authentic in Holguin

We have been on a 7 day visit to this resort in Holguin; there has been many plus points and of course some minus points as well, like most Cuban 4* resorts. We can easily say the beach of this resort, which was at the Playa Pasquero area, was one of the best in Cuba, and we have been to most of the beaches. In the water the aquarium kind of colorful fish, above the water all the yellow butterflies flying from the end of the beach forest area to the back of the beach and circling within the reso [... read more]rt continuously. The landscape and the flowers on the grounds were truly more impressive than any other resort we have been, which include some Melia and Memories resorts. The rooms, at least the one we stayed in, was very clean, specious and free of bugs. We have noted that the bugs, even the 'noseethem' were almost non existent at this resort during our stay, which eliminated the discomfort of the itching e.t.c. The air-condition and hot water in the room were also without any issues. The most disappointment was with the availability of food choices; it must have been related to the limitations imposed on this country, and this resort may have been one of the hardest hit with the limitations. Not being picky about food in Cuba, usually our 'go to' food there would be, Pizza, quality cheese selection, very good bread selection and 'french fries'. However, this time even these items were very scarce to the point when we arrived the hamburger/hot dog were served without the bun, and forget about french fries. Pizza was also a rare option. The rest was pasta, which you can choose your ingredients, and some selection of 'lamb stew', or pork chops, which were quite good, but only one day for each. No Paella, no grilled fish at the beach snack bar. There could be some improvements with the choice of food offered perhaps, even with the limitations, it would be a good idea to switch the menu at the beach snack area a few times during the week. The Beach Buffet was closed, which has a lovely view of the beach. The Mexican A La Carte never existed during our week. Also the beach snack bar closes at 2pm. However, the loveliest of beaches, the clean room, lack of bugs, and the wonderful landscaped grounds made up for the food choices. Lobby area quite run down, in need of new cusions for the seating and better lighting to improve. The lovely water fountain scultpture at the Lobby bar is dry. Only one night lobby bar live music, which we missed all week. Overall we had a very relaxing time, and love the wonderful Cuban people and their very positive attitudes under their circumstances. We Canadians are privileged to be able to visit and enjoy this unspoiled piece of Paradise.

Don Lino Hotel: Would reccomend!

I was very happy with my stay at Don Lino. There was not a large selection of food but it was good quality because i have a sensitive stomach that often gets upset at food at other cuban resorts but at this one i did not have any stomach issues the whole week. It was a quiet resort with friendly staff. I would reccomend this place for people who would rather have a relaxing vacation rather than a party-type vacation as they didn't have a nightly show. I didn't mind that as that is the type of va [... read more]cation i like. Overall, this resort is a very relaxing and nice place that i plan to come back to again in the future.

Brisas Guardalavaca: My second home

Brisas Was my second time there i am in love all over again. The people are amazing. The grounds are perfectly manicured. I sat on my balcony and watched the gardeners trimming the bushes. That was the first time seeing that and the tools they use. Nothing like here in Canada. I loved the beach omg was beautiful. Laid on the beach chair and listen to the ocean was so peaceful. The room i was in was 407 was comfotable but i dont spend much time on it. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend  [... read more]brisas . I go the food was awesome. There will always be people to complain about everything but i do say if your going with high expectations stay home.
