I will keep this short. We stayed in one of the villas. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff at the hotel were awesome. We only had positive interactions with them. The hotel was super clean and well kept. We were happy hanging around the pool or the beach. The ocean had large waves so with our kids we didn’t really spend a lot of time there. Not the resorts fault as they can’t control the weather. The food was pretty good except we struggled at times during sup[... read more]per to find something our kids would like. Overall I would return in a heart beat as we had a great time.

Golden Parnassus Resort & Spa: Amazing staff
It was our first time in Mexico so we have nothing to compare it to but we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were outstanding and the resort was clean and there was more than enough options for food of any kind. We would definitely return to this resort

Grand Oasis Sens: Wow
This was the first time that I ever came to Mexico I’m excited that the hotel made me feel safe rooms are clean and I had a beautiful oceanfront view. You definitely need to wake up early in order to experience all of the activities that are available especially if you really enjoy all inclusive. Although if you are vegetarian or vegan there aren’t many options on the resort to eat. I was expecting there to be a lot more seafood then there was available.

Paradisus Cancun: Good for family, bad for singles
Good for couples and families, not good for singles. Let me explain. We went there from Canada with my friend. The reason we picked Paradisus is that our close friend from Russia got married, we couldn't attend his wedding in Russia so we decided to pay respect and invade his honeymoon :) . Long story short, we were considered gay couple TWICE by different people just cuz we sat together. Grand Oasis Palm: Disappointing
I was disappointed by this hotel.
My wife, my 2 year old daughter and I were looking forward to this trip as a way to decompress, have a bit of fun and reconnect. First night there, we get woken up at 2 in the morning by drunk people shouting in the hallway, second night there we realize the bar outside close to our room plays loud music until 11:30 every night, and 2nd morning there, that they've begun renovation just outside our room with (jackhammer starting at 8 in the morning and going [... read more]on until 2 in the afternoon every weekday). In light of the lack of sleep, my daughter was throwing tantrums after tantrums, which meant, neither my wife nor I were really able to relax. We spoke with the hotel about relocating to a quieter room but it seems they were more interested in selling us an upgrade (at high price to a location just as noisy) rather than solving the issue.
The rooms themselves are also quite small, and no balcony or bigger bathroom unless you pay a premium. With two luggages, a stroller and a crib, pretty much the whole room is filled.
In addition to this, Hotel babysitting services only start at 3 years old. If you want access to the Kid's shallow pool area, your child has to be supervised by one parent; no two parents can be present at the same time and there is no chair for parents to sit in that area.
Foodwise, I have coeliac disease so my choices are limited to begin with, but they were more limited in that hotel than other hotels i have been to in Mexico. Furthermore, having only chosen the Oasis Palm (and not the Grand oasis Palm option) a lot of restaurants weren't accessible to us. It did not however make any sense to pay a premium to have the grand Oasis Palm option as most of these extra restaurants were 16years+. In any case, we felt we had tasted everything there was to be tasted after 2 days there.
Service was not consistent, nor always as friendly as you would expect. For one of the restaurants, we had ordered white wine. It took 15 minutes for the server to come with wine glasses, and he had poured red wine instead. Instead of fixing his mistake right away, he then went to clean another table and another, etc. The daughter was getting fussy (she was hungry) so we ended just leaving that restaurant after 25 minutes of sitting down, with no food for her nor wine for us.
We finally managed to get relocated to another hotel by speaking with Sunwing customer Service. We got transferred to another Oasis hotel (Grand Oasis Tullum). A much calmer resort where the service was much friendlier and my daughter was actually able to sleep.

Melody Maker Cancun: Resort with Identity Crisis
We stayed at this resort the first week of March 2019 for one week prior to the spring break kick off. I'll start by saying that this hotel advertises itself as "the biggest party hotel in the world". We didn't know this when booking and started to see the advertisements in the airport to our amazement. With such a statement we were expecting something kinda awesome and started to mentally prepare. Although revamped and under new management, the building is a little old and tired. Its best f[... read more]eatures are the amazing pools which get covered up for some of the special events. Bottom line up-front is this resort is having a bit of an identity crisis. Following are a few aspects that were noteworthy of our stay:
ATMOSPHERE
The reason why I titled this review "Not what you expect" is because I feel like this will ring true for all those who come to Melody Maker regardless of why you are coming meaning that its not really delivering for any target market - party'ers or relax'ers. I've been to a few other resorts in the same area and there is always a bit of a "formula" for how these resorts do business. This one doesn't really follow the formula. Firstly, for "the biggest party hotel in the world", things sure did wind down early. The pool music, and bars all close by 6:30pm and you are left with the 2 restaurant bars and 1 small lobby bar inside the hotel. Two of these bars close by 11pm and the other stays open until about 1am. I say "about" because staff are pretty eager to shut down, so at around the 45 min mark, the priority becomes closing up shop vs getting guests their final call. Further to the bars, there is no night time entertainment aside from a small sing-song band in the buffet one night (of 7) who was quite good. Now; that being said, I think a lot of people come to this resort for the concerts. During our stay we had one featured DJ on the Thursday night but this wrapped up by 11:30pm. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty cool, great stage with light show and all, definitely a high-lite of the trip. The downside of the concert focus is you loose access to the primary pool area which has a negative impact on the remaining pool and beach areas. So my point here is if you are thinking of avoiding this hotel because you think it will be too crazy, I don't think it lives up to its claim so perhaps re-consider. If you are looking for the crazy party vibe, the lower pool area "Delirio" had DJ's playing during the day which you can hear on the beach and was a pretty bumping area. If you like people watching, this hotel is full of young "influencers" looking for their next insta-moment, so lots of tiny bikinis and buff lads strutting their stuff, which makes for decent enough entertainment if you're into that. There were almost no young children even though its not an adult only resort, yet perhaps it should be. Age-wise there was the full range of people but with a definite majority in the 21-35 age range, most of them Canadian, at least when we were there. Overall this hotel is in a weird in-between market struggling to define itself.
OTHER ATMOSPHERE NOTES
-There seemed to be a sewer problem while we were there. Lots of strange and passing smells of sewage that would come and go throughout the resort.
-Line ups at the lobby were constant. We got lucky and only waited about 20 min when we arrived late at night.
-Getting drinks can be slow in some areas. The lower pool, and beach you wait about 30 min on average, even when you go to the bar yourself. TIP: Once you find a good bartender, just keep going to him. Treat him well and he will treat you well. They all tend to work the same bars so you will know where to find the ones you like.
-On our last day our check out was at 12pm and our “all-inclusive pass†expired at 3pm, even though our shuttle didn’t pick us up until 6pm. This is a terrible policy, we didn’t arrive until 11pm. What are they really trying to save here? Felt like - "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!"
FOOD/ROOMS
Moving on to the amenities, the food was typical for a resort. Nothing really stood out as fantastic, or particularly memorable, although some stuff was terrible (again, typical). There are three restaurants (Mexican, Asian, Mediterranean) and the buffet. We ended up getting bored and eating off the resort at the near-by mall a couple nights. We recommend La Parilla overlooking the lagoon, staff is great and literally you can’t walk by without them grabbing your attention 😉 … all joking aside, the food is great and reasonably priced (you should definitely buy the picture). To note, the resort’s beach side restaurant attached to the hotel is extra to the all inclusive, which we found very strange and never partook.
We traveled with my Dad who bought the VIP package, so we got to see the range of what this resort has to offer. They had a big ocean facing room with a Jacuzzi patio. Ours was Lagoon facing with no patio. Overall the rooms were nice and clean, our bed was "okay", kinda lumpy with a topper thrown on as an attempt to make the mattress go a little longer but fine overall. My biggest disappointment of the entire trip was the lack of hot water in the shower (again March 2019). We only managed to get a hot shower a couple times throughout the week. We spoke to other guests, and some were in the same boat, while others had no issues. TIP: If you get in your room on the first day, and notice the water isn’t hot, just ask to be moved right away because it didn’t improve. They refill the mini-fridges in the rooms everyday, which is great. Buffet was good with lots of variety. There is a “nice side†of the buffet room which we preferred to sit at, but there seemed to be random rules to getting a seat… “sorry closed†even though the place was half full. It was very strange. Even my Dad who had the VIP bracelet couldn’t get seating most of the time. Since this hotel only just opened in December 2018, I think they suffer from general procedural inconsistencies that they are trying to work out.
STAFF/SERVICE:
The staff and the service are good. People are trying hard to ensure you are having a great trip but areas like the lobby you can see that the staff are getting berated with frustrated customers so they seem tired and/or frustrated when you speak with them.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, we enjoyed our trip and found it to be an interesting experience that I've never had at other resorts. I think they will keep improving if they are able to survive their first couple years. If you are ok to go with the flow, party or relax, you will probably come away feeling the way we did. If you're someone who is looking to experience "the biggest party hotel in the world" I don't know, maybe its what you make of it. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing resort, perhaps this one is not for you. If you want a bit of both than we recommend!

The Riu Caribe was an absolutely beautiful resort. We stayed there from March 2-9/19. The Riu Cancun is our favourite Riu property. The entire resort is spotlessly clean and modern. The grounds, plants, and beach are looked after with the utmost care and all staff go out of their way to smile and help in any way they can. Emporio Cancun: Great resort.
If you want to have a quiet time and a great beach, this is the place to go. There is only a couple of down sides to this resort.
1. There isn't a place to sit and socialize after dinner.
2. There is only one restaurant that you can book. However it is a great restaurant. (Italian).
3. There isn't any nighttime entertainment.
The positives:
1. The beach is amazing
2. The service is also amazing.
3. The food is excellent.

Occidental Costa Cancun: Splendid week away
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the week we spent at this hotel. The grounds are very well kept and beautiful. The beach is small but perks are: It is flowing water from nearby lagoon, kept clean of seaweed, and calm to swim despite the current from the lagoon. Sand is like powdered sugar!
The staff are warm and friendly.
The hotel is located steps away from Xcaret, the Jolly Roger and Captain Hook dinner cruises, and the ferry to Isla Mujeres.
The nightly entertainment was top notch. [... read more]
The activities during the day kept people involved. Loved the dance lessons, Zumba, etc.
Easy access to the transit with only 12 pesos pp. easy to get around hotel district or into Cancun.
The food at the buffet was average.
The a la carte food and service at the Mexican, and Italian were top notch!
Rooms very clean and convenient. a few minor repairs needed but not worth making a big deal about.
The internet provider that the hotel uses was the only disappointing part of our vacation. I don't like paying for something I am unable to use. I was offered 15% back and really should have asked for a full refund. Not a big deal though as the resort was wonderful!

Sunscape Cancun Resort and Spa: Great getaway, nice place!
My husband and I traveled with our 2 boys (age 10 & 7) for 10 days in February 2019. Panama Jack's is approx. a 30 minute drive from the airport. Upon arrival the check in was fairly quick and our room was an ocean view which definitely met our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised that we had 1 king and 1 double bed. The beach is that of gorgeous white sand, a bit of seaweed (not a big deal) - but there is always wind and fairly turbulent waters (undertow). In fact our entire 10 days [... read more]there it was red flags on the beach, although we still waded out a bit to enjoy the waves. There are 2 pools - the main pool is not huge and this is where most of the action is, so be prepared for loud music and constant activity. The second pool is quite small, it's quieter due to being away from the entertainment crew, but had more younger children around - probably due to the fact that the kids club is right in proximity. There are a couple bigger water slides my boys enjoyed - although my husband was concerned with the speed in which he exited the slides - lol! Lounge chairs can be hard to come by both around the pools and on the beach - but we always seemed to be able to find something eventually - it's just most people seem to place a towel on them to 'reserve' them (boo!). They do offer some classes, such as yoga and Zumba, first thing in the morning (8am) if you like participating in that sort of thing. One of my favourite things was the Panama Jacks Coffee Company in the lobby where we could pop in to grab our specialty coffees all day long, including treats which the kids enjoyed - such as cookies and pastries. There seemed to be lots of eating options. We dined at both the a la carte restaurants - the Italian one was our favourite. They had excellent service and even when having a hard time deciding on our order, they brought us out a sample of the item we didn't order so we could try it! The buffets have different theme nights and there was always decent selection - although some things like guacamole seemed hard to find, and desserts weren't overly impressive. There is a 24 hour snack bar - but nothing special so we didn't use it during our time there except to grab a few tortilla chips one day. The drinks were good, although I found them quite sweet with syrupy mixes - such as daiquiri's or pina colada's. Mojito's were one of my fav's and you can't go wrong with the cerveza's! The evening entertainment didn't blow us away so we didn't make a huge effort to watch it. Seems our boys enjoyed the foosball table so we tended to sway toward that most nights. The only issue we had was a couple times we went back to our room and our door was not completely latched - meaning we just had to push it open without our key card. We soon realized it was the maid service that was not properly closing our door after cleaning. Nothing went missing, it was just a little alarming! All in all, we had a great getaway, enjoyed every minute of escaping winter - but will likely look for another destination/resort for our next trip.

Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres: Tennis heaven
My wife and I enjoy playing tennis on a regular basis and the Rafa Nadal tennis center located in the resort was our main reason for booking it. We were not disappointed by the quality of their adult tennis programs. Food selection was the same during our 7 night stay. Staff service was great and the Beach is nice and powdery sand. This hotel has three categories TRS, GP and Family. If you stay at the GP section, be prepared to get rejected a few times during your stay. For example: GP guest will wait 30 minutes or more at a la carte restaurants because the GP section cannot make reservations for a la carte restaurants. On the other hand TRS and Family section can make reservation and get a table without waiting. Transportation within the resort is also divided. There are TRS golf carts and GP golf cart. Grand Oasis Sens: Mom and Daughter Trip!
My daughter and I recently spent a week at the Grand Oasis Sens for a mother/daughter trip. We were there to unwind and relax. We purchased the all-inclusive vacation and were quite happy with what we received. The resort is renovated and fairly updated. We travelled with Air Transat and the local rep was great! She gave u[... read more]s lots of valuable info and tips for excursions and day trips. The buffet was great, always something good to eat and the a la carte's were good as well. Our favorite was the Mexican resto with the live music!
Agnacio was the on the omelet/eggs station and he was amazing and super friendly! We looked forward to seeing him every morning! Entertainment was good, although I wish there was something by the pool every night as we really enjoyed the live music there. The weather was great, except for the high winds which prevented us from actually swimming in the ocean which was very disappointing for me but not the resort's fault! The beach chairs are solid plastic and really hard, I wish there had been better chairs there but the pool chairs were good.We never had a problem getting towels or chairs and the bar staff were all friendly. The sushi bar was great!! We weren't impressed with Sakura though and waited all week for that reservation. Never saw one bug inside the resort, and only few flies outside as it was so windy by the beach. The Spa was way overpriced so we never went there but the Coffee and Me shop was excellent and we went there a couple times a day!
Would definitely return and we enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The only complaint was the mini fridge only had water, Coke and bad beer. I asked for soda water as we don't drink pop, and I requested Sol or Corona but they said they didn't have anything different.
