Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Good but not great!

Good food (avoid opa & italiam resto they are sub par), good entertainment, nice resort, nice beach, poor service, avoid the nexus tours desk at the beach especially. I wont be returning to any royalton hotels after finding out they are owned by the infamous sub par sunwing airlines.

Riu Flamingos: Awesome time

Great place. Great staff. Super helpful. Food was good, alacarts were great, except for the steakhouse it was not great. But if you want incredible steak go to alberta lol! Way more value than what I paid for. The resort was well cleaned and the staff worked hard to keep it that way It is an older place but well maintained

La Isla Huatulco: not a resort

Good day This hotel is simply a decent base for a visit to Huatulco not an resort ,we enjoyed what we tought to be a decent price and were suprised to find out many others went here the same period for way less . Hotel is remote but within walking distance of most bays and taxi's are to be found everywhere at a minimum of cost. Room was Spartan but clean , King bed was good , shower good , clean towels daily . breakfast was decent , lunch at beach club good , dinner at Hotel , well what can [... read more] i say about dinner lol , we should be angry about that particular segment but seven days of perfect weather made us forgive them the fact that there all inclusive dinner just did not do it for anyone and i mean all Canadians there went out for dinner , this you can do in town and the cost is minumum . service at the hotel is a laugh, some try but a decent manager could have this improved no issue within days , i know i have been in the hospitality service for over 40 years and this is an easy fix. again its a decent hotel not a resort. free shuttle to beach club worked fine and tipping 150 pesos daily [about 10 bucks] got them serving us with a smile. food there was good ocean great and thier pool did the trick ,in need of some upgrades they are as it is starting to look a bit run down . again we had a fantastic week knowing we needed a base to explore the area from and that worked out great all the best

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Absolutely amazing 💟💟

I cannot put into words how amazing this resort was. From the rooms to the food to the cleaness of the rooms and grounds and everything in between.It was all totally amazing. Definitely my first choice of our future vacation. Loves it !!!

Grand Sunset Princess: Great Resort

Would of liked a king or queen bed in the room. Ala cartes ok- Miso and La Hacienda being the best. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice to have 3 places you could go for breakfast and lunch and if you wanted to stay in your bathing suit they had food at most pools and at the beach which was great. Sunwing an hour late leaving and returning which needs to be improved on.

El Cid Granada: Great resort!

El Cid Granada was very good. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, Ana and Julian at the El Patio were very friendly and their service was outstanding. Our room was very clean and comfortable.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Highly recommended

Our group of eight family members recently stayed at the Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort for eight days. Overall, our experience was very positive. The rooms, staff, activities, food and evening entertainment were all very good to excellent - great value for the money. Our Trip Central agent, Jennifer Collard, who was fantastic, arranged for rooms for all of us in building 1, which was perfect for us. Collectively, we participated in the spin, yoga and aqua zumba classes, and did paddleboar [... read more]ding and a lot of snorkelling; it was wonderful to be able to snorkel right off the beach and see turtles, rays, squid and a wide variety of fish. We also did several side trips, and being able to catch the coletivo buses right outside the property was great - we were able to get to the Tulum ruins before it got crowded, and the bus fare ($3 per person each way) was very reasonable. I only have two minor complaints. The transfer from the airport to the hotel took about double the time that the staff on the bus told us - almost two hours. When there was a significant delay in entering one of the hotels where passengers were being dropped off, there was no explanation or apology. For the trip back to the airport, we booked a private transfer, which was well worth the money - we had an extra hour and a half at the hotel, so we were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and had a much more pleasant ride. The other concern was about the specialty restaurants. Our group came from three widely separated locations, so it is very rare that we are able to spend time together. We were told that it was not possible to reserve a table for our group, and that we could only come to one of the restaurants at 6:00 (the opening time) to see if we could be seated together. At the Mexican restaurant, we arrived before 6:00, only to find that two other large groups had been given an advance reservation, and despite having plenty of empty tables, the staff refused to put them together for us. Worse than that, the staff at the French restaurant told us to come back in ten minutes, so that they could put together tables for us. We came back less than ten minutes later to find that they had put another group of eight where they were going to seat us. When we expressed disappointment with what they had done, they just shrugged, and as with the other restaurant, refused to put together tables for us. In both cases, we said that we would be fine with using just two tables for our group (which would not have reduced the capacity of the restaurant). We did not let these experiences negatively impact what was an overall very good impression of the resort.

Secrets Huatulco: What a trip

We could not have had a better time anywhere. The resort was everything that our agent (Carol) at trip central told us about. The food was excellent, our room was so comfortable, then view was exceptional, the staff at Secrets were extremely friendly and just great . I would recommend this resort to anyone that is considering travel to a sun destination. Huatulco Mexico is a wonderful getaway and so clean. Las Hadas by Brisas: Beautiful Resort

We absolutely loved the resort and especially our room with the ocean/marina view. We only had 3 negatives which would not deter us from referring this resort to friends or family but should be aware. The food was a hit or miss but overall the experience was good, the service was not always there but we were advised the hotel was short staffed (just meant we got our own drinks at the beach and lounge) and the main buffet is open air which allows for the birds to poop all over the chairs/floor [... read more]. The resort is quite large with a "plantation" feel which we loved and quite a few stairs that we didn't mind but you could call for a golf cart to get you where you needed. The beach area was nice with clear water where you could see the fish but no lounge chairs on the beach, just beach style chairs but you could ask for loungers to be brought down. You have limited access as you are in a bay but there is a nice walking path to the Barcello and a nice short walk along the marina. There was a new Manager just starting when we arrived and could already see improvement in the food and selections. I would expect the new Manager to continue improving the service but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Wonderful resort and agent!

Our agent Tina scibetta-Moore recommended the Akumel Bay Beach and Wellness resort and it was amazing on every level! Perfect location, gorgeous surroundings and wonderful ammenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My only complaint was the inability to make reservations at the restaurants as the wait times tended to be long.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Great time

Stayed at BP Coba Jan 21-28 2017,we had a great time.The resort is massive but quite easy to get around with the trolley system.The grounds are very well kept,rooms were excellent,selection of drinks were fantastic ,buffet food average(turn up the warmers,some food cold,replemish the food quicker)Ala cartes were awesome.Staff, amazing.Some parts of the beach were very nice some not so nice.Entertainment was good with a good variety,lobby shuts down at 11pm,we didn't mind but my sure some people  [... read more]did.BP priviledge club sales people are way to agressive.Long travel day to get to the resort with a 2 hour bus ride from the airport,but soon forgotten next day when you are poolside with a drink.

Occidental Cozumel: Great Holiday!!

We thought the place was wonderful, people were so friendly and helpful and always had a smile on their faces, they worked so very hard and everything was so clean. Would recommend more help in the bar areas or even a waitress/waiter to come around taking orders in the evenings to relieve the line up at the bar and maybe more of a selection of food in the evenings, I never went hungry, but there was two evenings where I only had bread and deserts for dinner, the food was always good, though the [... read more] selection only was hard to detect what it was, I was never left hungry!! Allegro Cozumel: Fun resort

Hotel was very very nice and beach is just great. Breakfast was great lunch was too dinners were hit or miss. Ala carts were great. beach was great clear water and service was very good. Music was playing all time happy place

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: We love it!

This is the 3rd or 4th time we have stayed at Sian Ka'an and we look forward to returning in the future. The resort is smaller than some of the larger resorts and much more quaint. The staff is excellent and responsive. Because you have access to the other 3 sister resorts, you have tremendous variety for restaurants, pools and beach areas.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Exceptional experience

We can't say enough about this hotel. This was our second visit and nothing had deteriorated but improved! The new Essence suites are modern and we had the pleasure of spending our holiday in a swim up suite. The showers had a 16" x 16" rain shower head surrounded by a light! The grounds are really well kept. Some pools get busy but you can always find a quiet area in one of the other pools. Staff are more than accommodating and very personable. Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Spa and Hotel – The Bad, the Good, and the Ugly

I would never personally stay at Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Spa and Hotel again because, for the cost, it was a poor value. But, I have mixed feelings when it comes to whether it should be recommended or not. THE GOOD AND THE BAD It is an upscale resort with beautifully maintained gardens and lawns; well-paved roadways and walkways of stone, cement, and brick; three welcoming pools; a long beach, eight à la carte restaurants; a large main buffet and two restaurants that serve as buffets p [... read more]art of the day; lots of activities for the guest; a big outdoor covered amphitheatre, a spa, gym, and a disco. However, it is an unwieldy 20 resident buildings resort packed with people. Even at a moderate to fast pace, it takes 20+ minutes to walk to some venues, notably the spa, gym, and disco. It took me three days to find my way around. There is supposed to be a golf-cart shuttle service, but there is no schedule and no route map. Some shuttles are for “members” only. Other shuttles are full or just do not stop. Actually, in my seven-day stay, I was able only once to catch a shuttle. For the size of the resort and the numbers there, there are not enough bathrooms, and they are small. In fact, six of the à la carte restaurants and the main buffet do not have bathrooms. If a bathroom is closed for cleaning or maintenance, you have quite a trek to the next bathroom. Finally, you need a smart phone, GPS, or walkie talkie to locate or find your family and friends. In addition, just like the anonymity of a large city or cruise ship, there was no regular meeting place to make new friends by bumping into people more than once. The food is excellent and the à la carte restaurants each provide a different cuisine; French, Italian, Mediterranean, Japanese, Thai, and Brazilian. The large buffet offers a variety of cuisines except for Mexican Night, once a week. However, the main buffet is closed for 3 hours between meals and is only opened from 7 am to 10 am for breakfast. Our first morning at the resort, we nearly missed the buffet breakfast because the day before, our travel day, we had been up since 2 am and wanted to sleep in, but still have breakfast. Also, the reservation-required à la carte restaurants are small; thus, it is difficult to get a reservation, especially if you are staying for only a week. The three pools are well laid out. Two of them are activity pools and have swim-up bars. However the activity pools are noisy with either activities or music most of the day, not a great place to get an afternoon nap or just relax, nor is your room as I will explain later. There is a large crescent-shaped quiet pool, but the space for lounges is pathetically small, with lots of places along the pool too narrow for lounges. I was never able to find a vacant lounge at the quiet pool. To compound the problem at the quiet pool, almost all of the wider lounge area was reserved for “members only.” In addition, the lounges at the pools and beach, although comfortable, are difficult to adjust. You have to get out of the lounge and fool around with the support bar to move it to change the height of the back of the chair. There was no easy way to adjust the back support. Also, the lounges could not be adjusted to lie totally flat, nor could the back support be angled up to a reasonable height for reading. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. The beds are comfortable. The roomy bathrooms include a bathtub with Jacuzzi water jets and the shower has a rainwater shower head available. The floors of the unit are an attractive marble or granite, and there is an ample balcony with a table, chair, and retractable clothesline. The maid did a superior job of keeping the room clean. We were in a VIP junior suite. However, our safe did not work; the Jacuzzi water jets were non-functional; the cracked toilet seat pinched our skin every time we sat on it; and the faucet dripped. After a few calls and discussions with our concierge, our safe was repaired, and the Jacuzzi was made to work. On the other hand, the facet continued to drip throughout our stay, and the toilet seat continued to pinch us. We set the air conditioning as warm as we could 25C (77F). Nevertheless, the room was freezing. Other guests were complaining about the same thing. We had to figure a way to turn the A/C off, but then the room tended to feel and smell humid. Finally, all resident buildings were close to one or the other loud activity pools. If you wanted some quiet time away from the hordes of guests, your room was not the answer either. Even the balcony door being closed, the sound of the ceiling fan and freezing A/C could not drown out the racket coming from the pool, especially the voice of the specific activity leader who, despite having a grand amplified speaker system, found it necessary to scream. So, there was no peace from noise at the activity pools or our room; plus, the quiet pool was always full. The resort had a coffee shop which served delicious specialty coffees, such as café latte, Irish coffee, Monte Cristo, cappuccino, etc. However, for this enormous resort, there was only one coffee shop. No other venues served specialty coffees. The resort also had an ice cream parlour which served premium ice cream of a variety of marvellous flavours. However, again, there was only one ice cream parlour. No other venue served ice cream during the day. The parlour closed at 6 pm. Ice cream was available from 6:30 to 10 pm at the main buffet as part of your meal. There was a large coastal area along the resort. Many spots had beautiful look-outs and one isolated point had two somewhat shaded hammocks, a miniscule oasis of quiet. However, 75% of the beach was too rocky to sun bath or even to access the water from. The sandy beach area, with large “members only” sections, was overrun with sunbathers and swimmers. Available lounge chairs were impossible to find. The scene is reminiscent of photos of the crowds along and in the Ganges River. THE UGLY Bar Service was a disappointment. At the quiet pool, there was no alcoholic bar. At the activity pools, one server came around about every 90 minutes or so during the day. It took him/her 30+ minutes to bring a drink. It was better to go to the bar. However, the pool bars ran out of pina colada mix almost everyday. The beach bar service was worse. At the beach bar, there was only one bartender to serve the mass of beach goers. He gave priority to the one waiter’s massive orders from the beach. If a guest went to the beach bar, there was a minimum 20 minute wait. However, if you ordered from the waiter on the beach, the wait would be minimally 30 minutes. At the main buffet, cocktails were never available even during dinner. The staff at the resort is absolutely excellent, superior in every way. They work hard and are extremely friendly and accommodating. However, they are overworked at every venue. The resort should either increase the number of staff or cut down on the number of guests in order to improve all service. Grand Sirenis’s Final Farewell Service to Us. There are people like us without smart phones or lap tops. Our last full day at the resort, I asked the concierge to help us book our next day flight on line. Despite explaining to him our situation, he said he could not help us. I have been to three other Mexican resorts in the past 14 months. Grand Sirenis has been the only resort which refused to help us. Thank God, Air Transit hostesses, using their own personal phones, helped us and other couples book on-line. Maybe Air Transit should co-ordinate customer service at the resort. Our shuttle left for the Cancun airport at 7:20 am. No food venue was open early enough for us to have breakfast or even pick up food, not does the resort make any attempt to have even coffee and continental breakfast in the main lobby for guests who depart before food venues are available. I have never been to any other resort, hotel or on any cruise ship that did not have food available for early departing guests. Finally, our departure on our shuttle was delayed because when we checked out, the resort forgot to give us proof of check out for the shuttle service. We had to go back to check out to get the proof. This was our final disappointment that we had experienced at the “upscale” resort. RECOMMENDATIONS I guess if you want a large expensive upscale resort with lots of duplicate amenities and venues; a big area to hike through and explore; a host of activities; many guests; somewhat impersonal and with a high degree of potential anonymity; then this resort is for you. However, if you want a small, cosier resort, where it is easier to make new friends and get to know staff, but with more limited venues and activities, then go to an upscale resort like Sun Palace in Cancun, or a more economical resort such as Allegro Playacar in Playa del Carmen, or Cameron Los Cocos in Rincon de Guyabitos near Puerto Valharta.

Crown Paradise Club: Great vacation

We found the crown paradise club in puerto Vallarta To be a good choice for a family vacation. It's a good value and is in a convenient location. The food is okay. The drinks are great. My 7 year old son loved it.

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Beautiful location

Loved our stay at the Grande Paladium. Good food with good service most of the time. Lots of activities to participate in. Great place to take kids, with the Kids Club and the kids pool. Our room left a little more to be desired. From a dirty tub and sink, to a floor that was never swept or washed the whole week. The room smelt musty, that got worse when the air conditioner was turned on. We asked to be moved closer to our daughters family and were told to return the next morning. Upon returning [... read more] the next morning we were told to return the following morning. Then we were told that we could not be moved due to Booking thru tripcentral. They didn't want tripcentral to think we had been unhappy with our room, lol.

Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol: Outdated

The resort was old and needs an upgrade. Surprized that 80% of the guests were seniors. I guess this is what a 3 rating provides. Glad the restaurants were at Canto Del Sol. We needed an upgrade just to get a fridge for water. Two small bottles of water provided every 3 days is a waste. We had to purchase our own at Mega. The bed was on four large wheels and would roll back and forth when ever you moved. They were doing a major renovation in the room next door and was noisy all day.
