We had a couple of complaints. The registration and a la carte booking process doesn't work. We were unable to pre registration so therefore could not make a la carte reservations. We do not eat dinner after 8pm and the only reservation anyone in our group of 9 got were after 8. We therefore ate from the buffet for 10 days and it was getting very hard by day 7. Not enough gets changed up from day to day. The dishes were not properly labeled which made it more difficult.
The 2nd negative but [... read more]not a deal breaker was, we were in 7824 and it had a very musty smell. I could see you were updating the rooms, this building really needs it. Lastly, your booze seems to be watered down or just really cheap. You did not have to worry about getting tipsy on the alcohol. The wine or beer was the only way you felt like you had had some drinks.
The positive side is the staff are amazing!! Your customer service is excellent. We were treated very well.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Old Resort and not good service
The hotel is old, the rooms were disappointing, very old, moldie and not very clean. Especially for the price we paid. The service was poor, and staff were actually rude, like they didnt really care about the people. We witness several medical incidents where none of the staff intervened and the tourists had to provide assistance or support. The beach is nice but very crowded, the food was okay, nothing special. Some of us got sick. For the price, I would not go back to this resort. Or even to [... read more]Dominican.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Not a five-star resort. Two at most
I usually don't do the reviews especially when my review is not going to be a positive one but I do feel a little inclined to share a few words and they're not all positive.
On the good note the beach, the sunshine, and the water were amazing. On the negative note I feel that the hotel, by far, is not a five-star hotel so if anyone is looking at the five-star hotel, stay away. I wouldn't give this hotel more than three stars and that's a stretch.
From the shower the water temperature would[... read more] not change to cold; it was running burning hot. Just FYI we booked two rooms, one for us and one for our kids. Both rooms were the same, with two bathroom fixtures that were not just outdated but outright broken. Both rooms were very humid even with AC running and our kids' room smelled moldy. Sorry, three stars is a stretch.
The other item that I was not at all impressed with and this is going to be a big one is the level of safety and care. Unfortunately we have witnessed a person die at the neighboring resort that is also being sold by air transit. This is where we bought our package and the staff of that resort did nothing to try and rescue the individual. Ironically the following day as I was going at 6:00 in the morning to book a chair, it was impossible to get a chair at the beach. The resort is overbooked and oversold. I saw a lady falling down and when trying to reach the staff of the hotel they cared very little. I literally had to shout at them asking to help an individual in need so I would be very very cautious about going to this chain of hotels. Just for the sake of if anything happens, you are not going to be taken care of by any form of medical system.
Ironically I'm thinking that maybe I will put up a short video. I filmed a lot of footage while at the resort and after witnessing such a traumatic event with the person on the sand being resuscitated, his heart being pumped by visitors and the staff of the hotel standing on the side observing yet another gringo dying on the beach. I do feel inclined to share this with the world so I might just post a video on their YouTube on that as well

This was a wonderful hotel. The grounds were very clean. The service very helpful. More choice of different hotels on the same ground.
The food was also good, lots of choices with the option of other restaurants on site.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Needs Some Updating
I have stayed at this resort a number of years ago and it was fantastic. Sadly over the years there hasn't been alot of updating done. There are holes in the roof so of course when it rained the floor was wet. The buffet was good the first few days but the menu never changes so it gets harder and harder to eat there every day. They also dont have theme nights or anything special at the buffet. The room we had was excellent!! We had a 2 bedroom suite which included two bathrooms, two sundec[... read more]ks, two TV's etc. Very nice for a family that needed more room. The fridge did not work in the room nor did one of the TV's. When i let the staff know about it both things were fixed in a very short time. Staff were also very friendly and the pools were nice and clean. Entertainment was wonderful as well. Very poor directions of different activities going on at the resort. We missed a few things going on around the resort because we didn't know where to look to find them. The a la cartes were OK. Nothing special that we found which was also quite sad. I myself would not return to this resort in the near future. It is an hour and a half south of the airport which makes for a very long day once you get off the airplane. All in all a good time because we were in Mexico and the weather was fantastic!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great resort
I liked almost everything about the resort except the booking system for reserving restaurants. I think people shouldn’t be allowed to book more than 3 restaurants per week before they arrive at the resort. This system would be more equitable.
As it is now people who arrive to the resort for the first time aren’t aware of the booking system before they arrive and then have a difficult time getting any reservations for dinner. They might get a chance for a reservation if someone cancels at 5pm.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Fabulous Resort
Beautiful hotel, grounds, and service. Staff was amazing, friendly and very attentive. Overall, very clean and great beach area. Most staff were awesome but a few went above and beyond. Antonio and Orlando guest experience, Santiago and his team at the steakhouse, Joel in the main dining and beach restaurant and Gregorio pool bar. The pool activity staff were the best. They did everything to help our son-in-law who has mobility issues. They ensured a very positive experience for him as a new tr[... read more]aveller. The Japanese restaurant staff at the Punta Cana were great but we were disappointed we weren't sitting at the big table to watch the Chef. Overall, most restaurants had tasty food but was usually cold, especially the buffets. The Fish Market and Brazilian at the Esmeralda were the most disappointing for both food and service. Overall, a wonderful travel experience.

Bahia Principe Escape Tequila: Review feb2026
At this time, only two weak areas at this resort.
1) The beaches: due to weeds, the east beaches are marginal. Have to take a trolley to west end, but then no bars
2) cafeteria at Tequila: very inconsistent. Other restaurants are great

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Very good resort,
3rd time for us. Grounds are well kept, Staff is very friendly and mix well with guests.
Front desk are very good and helpful, but some could be better in the English language. Room was fine and our maid did a good job each day. Found out that there was a layoff of staff on March 1st which really affected the service in a negative way. Most guests attributed this to the takeover by Hyatt, later this month.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Very Misleading
We booked this resort because our dear friends have been to it 4 times and loved it!!!
Wow, where to begin! We spent the first day of our stay trying to get there. Between long layovers and connecting flights and very rude people butting in line, we didn't get our room until 5:00 am the following morning.(we were the last ones to get checked in out of two bus-loads of guests) there were only two people on the front desk out of 5 or 6 stations. After the majority of the guests were done with c[... read more]heck-in they would stay at the front desk and exchange money and hold up the line even longer with absolutely no consideration for the rest of us still in line, instead of getting their money the next day when there wasn't a long line-up.
The food was quite disappointing. we were under the impression the food here in Mexico and especially this resort was phenomenal from reading other reviews. Most of the food at the buffet was COLD and tasteless. Most of the signs for what type of food dish it was were very seldom changed so you never really knew what was in that container. And again the rudeness of people butting in an already formed line was disgusting. The only food item we found that was actually good was the homemade pizzas which you had to stand there and hover until the cook put them on the counter before the vultures would again butt in line and take sometimes 5 or 6 slices of each pizza. My wife has shellfish allergies and was very worried of cross-contamination of the food because guests would go from one station to another using the same utensil to dish up their food. On a couple of occasions I took some sliced processed meat to make a sandwich and when I took one slice off the pile, what was underneath it was green.
The beach for our resort was very short and rocky, not that it was the resorts fault. the water inside the roped-off area was only about thigh high and you weren't allowed to go outside the ropes.
The pool was ok but again not very deep anywhere. I could stand on my knees and still had my head and neck out of water. The resort had postings all around the pool and even made announcements not to reserve lounge chairs at the pool but if you went to the pool after 9 am forget getting a chair. Towels on every single chair. After the first couple of days, we would skip breakfast and go to the pool just to get a couple of chairs in the shade. The swim-up bar a lot of missing tiles on the front face of the bar which made that area very sharp and rough. The worst part was the same people every day would line the bar and stay there for most of the day, so getting a drink was a challenge. There was two pools side by side, the pool without the swim-up bar was for recreation(tossing a ball or frisbee) The other pool was supposed to be a relaxing area to have a drink and relax. Several times I had to go to bar and get a new drink because a football or frisbee would knock the drink out of my hand or hit me in the head causing me to lose my drink. TO PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN RAN RAMPANT: Your children are your reasonability, not the resorts.
Our room was nice and comfortable, but seemed that unless we tipped the room maid more money than we normally tip, our room wouldn't get cleaned until around 4:00 pm. once we started tipping a lot more, our room was cleaned before 11:00 am. ???????? (hint: learn how to make art with the towels on the bed once in a while. It goes a long way with the guests)
From my perspective this resort is grossly under-staffed and in need of some minor repairs. Also try to live up to your reputation for great food.
I informed the resort that we were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary and didn't even get a chocolate on our pillow. OH WELL.
We will not return to this resort. Sorry!

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Great resort
The hotel is huge, grounds are very well kept, well manacured. Our room and bathroom were spotless.
There were no shortage of pools to swim in or sit by, the beach was fantastic. You will not go hungry there are plenty of places to eat our favorite was the Thai restaurant, great food and very attentive staff.
The only fly in the ointment for us was the line up for breakfast in the mornings, as I said it's a big place and there are lots of people.
You won't be disappointed.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Beautiful resort but ‘superior’ rooms need bathroom doors
The resort was beautiful and the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming.
However we booked what we thought was a superior room and sadly the bathroom didn’t have a door that closed. This is not ideal with 3 adults sharing the space, one of which has a disability.
Needless to say we were disappointed by this.

Bahia Principe Escape Tequila: Had a great time!
The lobby was beautiful and had a bar, coffee and water station. The room was spacious with a good sized bathroom, lots of towels. A couch, two chairs and coffee table, big tv, and minibar fridge. You have to sign on to the app to request water, and dial zero for beer. Everything stocked when you first get there. Buffet was good, changed it up a little. Breakfast was the best. Coffee machine was great! Be aware there is no food on tequila resort after 10 pm. An outdoor bar with dj outsi[... read more]de lobby as well, open till 11 or sometimes 1230. Trolleys take you anywhere. Great pool with swim up bar. Lots of activities, and sometimes loud with parties and day activities. Trolley can take you to the hacienda with dj, bar, casino, convenience store (24hrs), and a large market. Also a few beaches available including private beach with infinity pool and buffet. Snack bar beside lobby of tequila. Lots of fun. Most people between 40 and 70 yrs. Adult only. Staff great

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: very disappointed
I went with my daughter, son-in-law and their 12 year old twins. One of the twins is disabled and unable to walk or stand without a walker. We asked for an accessible room and were given one farthest away from everything, and the only thing that was accessible was that it was on the ground floor. We had to take the trolley everywhere, too far for my grandson to walk anywhere, it was very difficult to transport him and his walker onto the trolley. After much complaining, they finally moved u[... read more]s (after 3 nights) to an accessible room that was wonderful, walk in shower and close to everything. BUT at a very additional charge. This is completely unfair, and unacceptable, especially when we did ask for an accessible room. but unfortunately they told us that there was nothing we could do. I will not recommend this resort to anyone, they were not helpfully at all. We were unable to eat in any of the restaurants, unable to get any reservations. Maybe if we had given more money that might of got us in??

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: We would never book here again.
****PLEASE NOTE: We stayed at the Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana, not the Fantasia as is listed here.**** This was my 3rd trip to Punta Cana in less than 2 years, and the 2 previous trips had been absolutely wonderful. This time was a completely different experience. I have been through breast cancer in the last year, and this was to be our "celebration of good health" trip. Our check in, which was well after midnight, took over an hour. The room was small, dated and uncomfortable. The beds wer[... read more]e hard as rocks. Our room flooded on the 3rd day while we were at the beach, with dark, brackish water. We came into our room to see 5 people with mops frantically trying to clear out the water, with our door wide open allowing free access to anyone going by. We went to the front desk to request a new room and were outright refused. I explained that I cannot risk infection due to potential health complications, but this was not considered and we were brought back to the room that had flooded. My partner and I then had severe food poisoning from the buffet, which was most unpleasant. We were sick flying back home and have not felt well since. What was supposed to be a relaxing, rejuvenating experience to celebrate health and healing was actually harmful to us both.
