Amazing Resort

This Resort is great, the grounds are kept immaculate and the rooms are clean. The food is excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive. The bars are close by everywhere and the pool is huge and kept clean.

Loved this trip

Extended family trip. Did not want to leave and ready to return. Took the premium package - vintage bar was great and the separate beach was wonderful. A la carte restaurants were a chance to try other foods than the buffet - which was amazing and the staff are great. Initially put in a room on the third floor - not great for someone with mobility issues - but changed as quickly as the front desk was able to find an appropriate room. It was good

it was a little old, but very clean and well kept staff were nice , house keeping was good no complaints really except there was money missing from our safe we complained about that but it went nowhere naturally

Amazing resort!

This resort was awesome. The nightlife could have been better but it was okay. The food was absolutely amazing. We got the royal package which we probably would not do again as the perks are not that rewarding ..We want to go back next year if we can get a good price.

Room clean daily Pool always clean Food quite good Staff excellent 90% Quebecers Smoking Arrogant Loud & Lots of Cruise day visitors Won’t go back Prefer to have local Dominicans but none could book as it was full of French ☹️ I know they book to fill the resort to stay functional but when there are people problems it ruins it for others. Would not recommend to Ontarians

Nice Resort

This was our third visit and we were very disappointed where our room was. We faced a construction site with noise starting at 6:30 am. Also the hotel didn’t recognize us as return guests. I guess return guests get a welcome fruit basket in their room upon arrival, a special dinner and a banner on their door which we didn’t receive any of that! Overall amazing time!

Overall I had an amazing time at this resort and I would go back to this resort! PROS -the resort was safe! As females, we had no problem wandering the resort and beach solo. Even going into the town on a city tour, it didn’t feel dangerous for us. This was the main factor I was looking at when booking this resort. -the demographic was mostly older adults and families. Never got sick or felt ill with the food. The a la carte options were delicious. Great service there. Book early though! They fill up fast. -there are a lot of excursions nearby! I ended up going on 4 during my 7 day visit. Two of which I did solo. Highly recommend zip lining at Country World Adventure Park, a city tour with the cable car, and Monkey land. -you can book offsite excursions at the resort as well. We booked a snorkeling tour in Sosúa for half a day. It was only $40 US. Speedy, the worker at the booth, is super nice! Afterwards he asked how I liked the excursion with a smile on his face. -the mall is a 2 minute walk away with many souvenirs options. It’s full of other tourists too exploring the resort plaza. -the resort has a variety of activities throughout the day, such as morning yoga, aqua Zumba, Zumba, bingo, bike rides, and more. -nightly entertainment had a different theme daily such as a silent disco, karaoke, couples games, boys vs girls challenge, live music, hula hoop contest, magician, a white attire party. The shows are not high quality but still entertaining -lastly, the resort is a very quick ride to and from the airport. CONS -some of the staff were rude to us. At one point I was yelled at aggressively for trying to help to move a chair as I was leaving the quiet pool. It was very strange. When the entertainment staff were trying to get females up to do the hula hoop contest, one guy (not in uniform but I think worked there) aggressively grabbed my wrist to go up. I firmly pulled back. Out of the 7 days we were there, we were only offered a drink once at the buffet. I flagged someone down near the end of our stay for a glass of wine (she was serving others wine), she served me white wine and said she’d return with red wine for my friend but never did. The housekeeping service took away our towels and never returned them. I asked the front desk twice for towels. They told me housekeeping eventually comes back with the towels but they never did for us. We ended up just keeping the do not disturb sign on the door. Front desk seemed irritated anytime we had questions. It was our first resort trip so we didn’t fully know what to expect or where things were. Half the bartenders were not friendly (mostly at the main bar. The quiet pool typically had nice bartenders, especially one guy was always smiling). We did tip all the service well and were friendly. Other resort guests I chatted with (who were retired) had such positive things to say on their experience with the staff so I’m not sure why our experience unfortunately was this way. -the beach is full of salespeople! My last morning there, I laid by the beach for 10 minutes. During this time, 6 people came up to me trying to sell stuff. A few were pushy. I left out of annoyance. When I went to the beach in the afternoon earlier in the week to read, salespeople weren’t pushy. However, the wind is very strong and blew sand in my face a lot. -we noticed some locals do stay there Saturday to Sunday. Two guys were hitting on us using Google translate and not taking no as an answer. This of course could happen anywhere though and thankfully they left us alone eventually.

Great resort!

Pros: -Beach was beautiful -Food was great -Grounds were immaculate -Drinks were wonderful (Jackie Special and Dirty Monkey were my faves!) -A la cartes were great -Rooms were cleaned and fridge was stocked each day -staff are friendly Cons: -Rooms were extremely dated -evening entertainment was not great

Relaxing trip

The hotel and rooms were very clean. Front desk was very helpful in arranging a appointment with a dentist and transportation to get there and back. Restaurants were nice and the food was good. The guests at this hotel seemed like a older crowd and the staff were very attentive. The only thing it lacked, was entertainment. But would definately recommend.

Great place for rest and relaxation!

What a wonderful place to stay! The resort is very well taken care of, the food plentiful and the drinks keep flowing. The resort is small and everything is in walking distance. Truly an enjoyable place to be!

Thanks to Monique Kwirant for recommending the resort! We wouldn’t have booked it without her! The food was great with lots of options.t, The people were friendly and the beach was perfect. In addition to lots of sand for swimming there was large patches of rocks and coral, perfect for snorkeling with tones of reef fish.

Fantastic….had a wonderful time

The lobby,the beach,the pool,our room,the restaurant,everything was top notch.We were here here last year and had a great time so we decided to come back and have no regrets.Hopefully we will visit next year.

VH Gran Ventana

The hotel had a nice entrance when arriving. The staff at the lobby were nice and polite to me. Now the room we’re in were cleaned when we arrived. But the 2 days we were there had no hot water in the bathroom. After having the hot water, cannot control it properly and sometimes it can get really scalding at times. We really enjoyed it very much. The staffs were great. The Sapore di Mare and the main buffet where everyone else eats, the staffs were no joy at all. Totally lacking in service. The food at the main buffet was good though. Different dishes every day but they tend to bring back some dishes after 2 days. The amenities of the resort was good. There was 1 day that had power outage for few hours. The wifi only works best if we’re in the lobby. Some areas were spotty and some no wifi at all. The main pool was nice. We could get drinks without leaving the pool. But I enjoyed the quiet pool near our building. The beach was great! Enjoyed walking around. The water was amazing too love every day that we were there. I personally enjoyed the city tour. All in all I had a positive experience compared to the negative experience we had.

Good resort

Hotel was good food was great very enjoyable grounds were nice pool was good but needs more music around it staff was very nice Service in the morning for coffee could use improvement Overall we had a great time and trip.

Average place

The hotel is in the good stretch of the beach. The room was spacious and AC worked really well. The internet was non existent and only working sporadically in the lobby. The bathrooms are old and need major overhaul. Our bathtub cracked while my son was showering. I had informed them on day two but nobody showed up until the day we were checking out.

Gran Ventana

We went as a group of 6 and were very pleased. Staff were great, grounds were great, food was great, easy access to the beach, it was all good. Would happily go again. My only criticism is the outdoor evening shows that were much too loud and went late. I think they should finish at 10 p.m. out of respect for babies and seniors.

Great stay

Hotel was wonderful. Small easy to get around. Food was good, need more staff at buffet serving drinks. The rooms were dated but clean. The beach was absolutely beautiful. Not crowded, lots of trees and very peaceful. Waves were not too big even on windy days. Entertainment was minimal, shows in the evening were not too great. But we’re early risers so that was fine. Staff were friendlier the longer we were there. Our only complaints would be the smoking. So many people smoke and we’re not cons [... read more]iderate of others. My other complaint was with trip central. They were not organized at all with sending me trip information ect. I had made room requests which were not relayed to the hotel so they were not able to honour any of them because they were full. I had asked 3X for the room requests to be made but our agent did not follow through. It took multiple emails and calls to get all our travel information. I’ve never had this experience before booking with an agent. I would not book through them again.

Great staff

Staff are all very happy. Great resort snd food was very good. I would suggest changing your a la crate booking system. Have people book online before they arrive to the resort. Automation as opposed to having people stand in line would be more progressive and convenient. Rooms need some updating particularly in Building 3 but rooms were clean and spacious. MIXED FEELINGS

Just returned from our week at the Gran Ventana. The PRO's: property is beautiful and well maintained. Food in buffet is good, nice variety. Lunch at the Ocean Grill is a must - chicken wings are delicious! Rooms are dated, but clean and comfortable. Octopus al la carte is great. Was not able to book a second al la carte as resort was at capacity and very busy. The CON's: customer service at front desk - staff are miserable! We had requested ground floor room but were given a room on the third  [... read more]floor! After 2 visits to the front desk to request a room change, we gave up. They clearly couldn't have cared less. No smiles, nothing. We left feeling we were bothering them. Dress code for buffet: there is a sign posted at the entrance (no bathing suits, shoes required). My husband was turned away on day one as he was wearing a tank top. Yet during the week we saw several guests allowed in wearing bathing suits. Which is it? Vendors on beach are relentless - they don't give up! Several are all offering the same service. One lady approached me, started rubbing my shoulder, and told me I needed a massage. They get right in your face. Not enjoyable. Finally, the lobby is underwhelming. There is nowhere to sit. While we had a great time with our friends, not sure I would return to this property.
