Fantastic!

As this was our third time in the last 4 years we will be going back next year. Beech is great, staff is fantastic, plenty of food to eat with different types for all taste, the entertainment crew is great there is always something going on if you want to join in or you can just relax. Place is clean and staff is always ready to help with anything you may require.

Blue Bay Villas

I spent a week at this resort and the pluses: staff tried to be as helpful as they could be, lovely beach, spacious clean rooms, delicious buffet with lots of variety daily. Other restaurants were also very nice, great staff and food, nice break from buffet. I couldn't book the grill, and never did find out where that restaurant was situated, but the Chinese and seafood restaurants both a treat.(although if the staff is enforcing no shorts for men, it would be a plus to also enforce NO HATS!!) C [... read more]lose proximity to airport a plus. Things that need improvement: Wifi not available anywhere without paying. Other resorts along this area all had free wifi in lobbies and in rooms. In 2019 not acceptable to at least have free wifi in lobby. Periodic times with no hot water in shower, 2 mornings in a row. Phone in room didn't work. I reported it, and 4 days later still not fixed, when I needed it to report a violent, drunk patron banging on the next door, I could not contact front desk to dispatch security to area. Beach chairs had to be reserved by 7am to get 6 together, although sign said not to keep chairs when not on beach, you had to save a few before breakfast, as there were not enough for most mornings on the beach. A 3 star overall.

Would not book this hotel

Have been to a lot of hotels in Puerto Plata and reading the reviews on Blue Bay we were quite comfortable in booking this hotel. However we would not return to Blue Bay Villas Doradas. This hotel is worn out completely with having no hot water for four days (no water at all one day), safety deposit box not working, phone not working, bathroom door not opening all the way, tub wouldn't drain, broken tiles everywhere you see all around this resort. We did manage to get moved the second day of arrival but only to be put down next to a hotel being built next to the building where we were moved to. If you want peace and quiet this is not the place to go. Now the good things.... the food was very good with friendly staff in the dining buffet. We visited two other specialty restaurants onside and they were good also. Staff on the whole was friendly and they do try.

Horrible resort

Buffet food was under standard. Thankfully the à la carte nights were good. The Asian Fusian was fantastic and the steak house. The rest was not! Don't ever pay for a Superior Platinum package. There is absolutely no difference. You are treated the same for the exception of getting a cheap bottle of rum in your room. Beach was great! Pablo and Santiago were the only ones that understood customer service. They were great!

Nice Small Resort

This is a lovely resort if you are looking for a small resort with everything very close and easy to walk to. Beach and lobby both very close to all of the rooms. bathrooms and rooms kept clean and stocked. however, the entertainment is not so great at night- so if you enjoy that this is not the resort for you. Great Value!

We had a great time at Blue Bay. For a small resort, it's well-appointed with amenities. The beach is beautiful, the food was great, and the staff were terrific. It was more of a party resort than I had anticipated, so if you like an afternoon nap make sure you get a room away from the main pool. ;)

Great Vacation February 2019

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. The staff were excellent, food was great and the pools and beach were awesome. I have already decided that this is one resort I will be returning to in the future

Not worth the price

We travelled to Blue Bay for a week in February. Pros The beach bar staff were great, the VIP section of the beach meant we always had a chair and towels. The buffet staff were friendly and attentive and we could always find something we enjoyed. The staff at the a la cartes were wonderful and made you feel special. Cons The rooms were very dated. The dresser in the closet and table in the room were poorly made and in need of a fresh coat of paint or replacing. The coffee in the lobby  [... read more]was an extra charge as was the room safe. The food at the a la cartes was ok, but there were really no vegetables and no fruit, they were very heavy meals. For the price we paid for platinum all inclusive I was very disappointed. We went for the sand and sun and ocean and those are what made the trip worthwhile.

Beautiful Resort

Loved the fun vibe of this resort. Ages varied from 20z to 80z. Very interactive with games around the pool and the evening shows were hilarious. Appropriate for all age groups.Beautiful walk to the beach every day that was filled with lots of nature. Great staff and really appreciated the top 40 music that was played poolside.

Absolutely awesome!! Enjoyed every minute. This place has my best recommendations! Great people. Clean, fun and entertaining. Great place for a much needed holiday. You won’t be disappointed by the amenities or the excellent staff.

Great spot for a rest

This resort has a lot going for it with only a few negatives: Plus Side- Food is excellent, staff are wonderful and beach is beautiful. Negative Side-Rooms are a bit past their "best before date" but clean & tidy. -Only accessible pool for disabilities (steps in) is the spa pool as " Bar Pool" is only 3 ft deep and other one has ladders only. -The common thread in D.R. is NO real handicap washrooms, (with bars and high toilets) is also true here [... read more].

The staff makes the hotel.

The check-in was very smooth, and they allowed us to check in two hours early when we arrived from the airport. The porters were very knowledgeable and friendly, always remembering to say hello when we saw them. We wanted to reserve a spot at one of the al la carte restaurants for the following day but the spots are reserved quickly. If you want one, then make sure that you do not wait until the day before. At the seafood restaurant, I asked whether they could do something special for her and they went above and beyond. At dessert, they gave her a cake and ice cream with a birthday message and candle. They came to sing happy birthday to her and many of the guests joined in. The rooms were very clean and there were always fresh towels available. The only complaint that we had was that it was really cold at night in our room and there was only a sheet on each bed. I'm sure that we could have asked for another blanket if we were inclined, but we decided to use our jackets instead. The grounds were beautiful and well-kept. The buffets provided a great selection, and we looked forward to sitting for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The servers tried to remember what our drink orders were and always ensured that we had plenty of water. We loved the Blue Bay Special drink that they have. The excursions were very expensive and if you booked one, you would be looking from anywhere between 50 to 200 dollars per person. We opted to use the facilities at the resort. It is near a mall and a flea market, which is a bit of a trek. There were other guests who were very rowdy and took over the swim up bar during the day. It took a long time to get drinks because of it. It was uncomfortable at times in the pool because other guests were playing football and had no regard for anyone else. The cost to use the internet for one week is sixty dollars. It was a service that we paid for because we did not want to risk buying a device from a vendor on the beach. We liked that there was a safe provided in the room. If you want a spot on the beach, then you should get up very early in the morning to reserve a spot as other guests frequently leave their belongings there until they plan to use it. The vendors on the beach can be a little pushy. All the staff that we encountered were very friendly. The animation team was incredible, but especially Waldo, Alfredo, Julio and Ema. They go above and beyond their call of duty. They always remembered to say hello to ask as well as tried to get us involved in the activities which included volleyball, dance lessons, ping pong, bingo, blackjack, karaoke, drinking competitions, amongst many others. Prior to the show each evening, the animation team tries to get guests to dance with them. Alfredo tries to choose people who are a bit introverted like myself, and while I tried not to go up, I had a lot of fun dancing with him. We tried to go bike riding but the bikes were too tall for us and it was too difficult to get on and off, so we could not end up going. This was not their fault. Waldo tried to adjust the bikes to suit our height, but it did not work out. The reviews say that the resort is a bit outdated, but frankly the photographs look exactly like we expected so I'm not sure that this is a fair assertion. It was a very beautiful resort and the beach did not have much seaweed in comparison to the other nearby resorts. There were some guests that made us uncomfortable. For instance, there was a man that was very belligerent and said sexually suggestive things to use in his language, knowing that we did not understand him. There was another occurrence when the same individual put his foot on the beach bar and exposed himself out his swim trunks. The bartender laughed, not sure if he thought that it was funny or because he did not know how to respond to the situation. We were not the only people that the man harassed, and I wish that there was an easier way to complain about guests as he is not the only person that we've heard about. In spite of that, I understand how difficult it can be for a hotel or resort to deal with unruly guests. The staff is multilingual and know a variety of languages. It was rare that a guest did not understand what we have said. We had a problem when the curtains fell off the rail and the water did not go down the drain in the shower, but we notified the front desk and they sent someone immediately to fix it. We asked our Air Canada representative first, as we did not know who to ask, and he stated that we should come to him if the front desk did not send someone at their earliest convenience. The shows were always magnificent. I think that the staff make the experience great.

Great small resort

Good was Great!! Smaller resort so everything was close together. Staff was fantastic. Entertainment could be a little better but the other guests made it fun. Would recommend this adults only resort.

Great resort!!

My husband and I stayed at Blue Bay Feb 5 to 12 and we had an amazing time.The staff were amazing and very accomadating.I have RA and was originally put on the third floor we spoke to the front desk and the next morning I was given a room on the ground floor.The resort was very clean ,great food at the buffet we didnt care for the a la carte so we stuck with the buffet. Blue Bay 2019

There is not one bad word to say. This is an Amazing resort. There are always things to do. The staff is extremely interactive. Games are played everyday. The foam party is quite the experience. We didn't take advantage of the a la carte, the buffet was too good, plentiful and had a variety well over expectations. I would recommend this to anyone. Even the gift shop was very well priced.

Good value resort for relaxation

even though the resort needs updating, the beach was extremely clean, staff was very friendly and curteous, and the food was also very good ,the activities staff was excellent on engaging the vacationers on a variety of activities. I would recommend this resort .

Three Star Resort

Buffet was good. Many choices. The grounds were very well maintained. We ate at two restaurants on the resort and not impressed by either We got very ill after eating at the fish restaurant. My friend was sick for three days and I was sick for nine days. Wipe out vacation. Staff were fantastic. Very friendly and aimed to please. Dancers were amazing

Great week in the sun!

My husband and I stayed at BB Villas for a week. It was a smaller resort which we liked! The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. Food was tasty and always had lots of options. The beach was beautiful. Loved the beach beds. So nice to lie on and relax. Most of all we were most impressed with the staff. They were lovely. Always had smiles on their faces and made our vacation that much better. We would definitely go back.

Blue Bay Puerto Plata

A small safe resort with a 20 min drive to airport. 2 swimming pools quite adult only resort. This was good value but can’t be compared to the large resorts say in Mexico. Our group of 10 enjoyed ourselves- if a quite time is what your looking for then you will be at home. Rooms are basic but adequate.

Friendly resort

The Hotel was very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice variety of food but food was barely warm. The beach was close by. The excursions were fun. Shop around for pricing on excursions. Average age of vacationers were 40- 65 years.
