Best Resort Yet

This was our 3rd time to Cuba we had already fell in love with Cuban people and culture now we have found the resort we would love to return to. The staff could not be more accommodating we had a wonderful room was clean and had a great view the food was so good the a la cartes were all amazing, pool was large there was never big line ups for drinks or food never ran out of anything. Awesome Beach, Great Staff

The grounds were clean, the staff was super friendly, and the beach was gorgeous & very close to the rooms. There were some AC and toilet issues in the rooms, but if you're doing it right you're not spending too much time in there anyway Plan your trip to hit up Lobster Night on Friday.

Very Pretty Resort

We were booked to stay at this resort but as it was over booked we were moved to another nearby resort. We were disappointed to not be staying here but were given the opportunity to use the resort for everything except for sleeping there. It is a very pretty resort to walk around. There are so many trees, shrubs and bushes and we really enjoyed the relaxed feel of this resort. The main buffet is close to the beach and was very open and very comfortable. They work so hard and stay so pleasant which must not always be easy as some guest can be very demanding and impatient. The waiters would go out of their way to be helpful and make sure our needs were met. The beach is beautiful and clean. As we were spending time at this resort and also the one we were moved to we did not get to see everything this resort has to offer but we really liked what we did see of it and look forward to staying here in the future.

Another Great Holiday

This was our eighth visit to Los Cactus ( formerly Breezes Varadero) We love it here, friendly staff,beautiful grounds, quiet, and an amazing beach, are only some of the reasons we keep returning to this resort.

Emotional rollercoaster..

Well, by far a vacation. Took a week away from my child to get food poisoning, got treated like crap by front desk, couldn’t have a normal shower, cockroachs on the buffet plates, husband was killing giant centipedes in our room, AC in room barely worked, had to ask 3 times for a new fridge ours was broken, toilet wouldn’t flush which was terrible since I had explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting, eye raped by 2 male severs constantly, our SHOES were stolen off our beach chair, room sme [... read more]lt like a funeral home, music and loud loud noises along with Maids yelling in hallways all morning.... NO sleep, cried 2 days of the trip. Should have stayed in my crappy home town for the week instead.

Good resort.

The grounds were beautiful. The people at the resort were very friendly workers and the visitors. The buffet dining facilities was so comfortable and spacious. The best i’ve seen. My suite was very comfortable and big I was upgrade to a block E. The resort never felt coward. My husband and I were both very sick withDiarrhea.

Tired Looking

Public areas were clean, food was not great but service very good. Beach amazing however no shade areas, lots of lounging. Jacuzzi x 7 but not all working, nice pool. Bedrooms need fresh linens, beds and pillows very uncomfortable. Lots of bars, lobby bar 24 hour with deli snack dinner time and later at night. Late check in, 4pm, so going early room won't be ready until 2pm or later. Maids late every day getting to our room. Not likely to go back! Disco in our building made it noisy and [... read more] chances of upgrading when you get there was not possible, let us change rooms to get a king bed at $10/person/night.

Return visit

We stayed here in 2013 when it was a breezes hotel. I book a super select room . I email the resort a couple of times with a room request but never heard back. When we arrived at the resort at 10pm we checked into our room . It was on the top floor of the disco building, not were we requested but since we were only there a week we didn't ask to be moved. we had a view of the ocean on one side and the other side a view of the canal. The only things opened for food was someone making sandwiches ,burgers and hotdogs. So we ordered 2 sandwiches, one was a veggies sandwich and the other chicken salad. The veggies sandwich only had lettuce and the chicken sandwich had a lots of onions. The next morning we went for breakfast . we found not as much variety as when we stayed there before. Love the fact you could get coffee any time and had a coffee maker in our room. We saw Brussel sprout and peas, hamburger & meatballs at breakfast time. We loved the coffee bar with Mabel making wonderful ,different variety of coffee. Opened at 3pm everyday. We had lunch sometimes by the beach and sometimes in the buffet. Carlos was great. Last 2 days we were there they had French fries. We like the Cuban a la carte the best of all the a la carte. Drink were good. The beach is beautiful and my husband loved the golf that was included. I would return because of the wonderful staff, beautiful beach and golf being included. 3 round per person per week . You had to pay 33 cuc for the cart,

Unwelcome surprises

The grounds were spacious and a beautiful beach. We arrived 9pm from our flight and not informed of available food beside bar in lobby. Buffet closing, little left and cold. Staff looked held back from leaving. We asked for a different room as disco below loud. Was told by desk no other rooms available and that disco in front of building and ended at 11pm. Disco behind and below our room and ended at 1:30 am Crash from our bathroom at 5:30 am and bathroom ceiling collapsed, 2 inches of water a [... read more]ll over our bathroom floor, water dripping from ceiling. Phoned 24 hr desk at lobby, no answer until 3rd try,took 20 min. A maid and maintenance worker came and attempted to mop the water into the floor drain. Unable to use most of bathroom, ceiling still dripping. Office then notified us we would have another room by 1 pm. Porter waited in hall while we carried luggage to cart. Our room was 1 floor up on opposite side, quiet from disco. Shower broke on 1st attempt to use it. When fixed intermittent hot water only( mostly cold). Air conditioner stopped working and asked office 3 days in a row to fix it. Finally our maid fixed it, she was great. Loud screeching noise from air conditioner the next day. Our maid called maintenance to fix. Rooms need major plumbing and electrical updating. Buffet breakfast was acceptable. Buffet bland and repetitive. A la carte restaurants both excellent but difficult to book.Evening dinner shows very good. Pool colder than the ocean and ladders needing adjustment. Not interested in a return visit. Our friends had problems with linen needing changing on entering room. Another friend had great difficulty opening balcony door which was never repaired and given a safe key that did not fit.

Los Cactos Varadaro

I am writing this review for people to have a better understanding of what to expect or not to expect when traveling to Cuba!! If you have traveled to Cuba before then most likely you will know what to except, Cuba is a very poor country, they do not have or live like what many people who go on vacation are used to, these people work 6 days a week very long hours & don’t get breaks, they don’t understand what you expect & do their very best to make every one happy, the grounds are not clean, [... read more] the food is not exceptional & they are not always clean, toilet paper, seats are scarce or you pay to use them when not on your resort etc, however this resort is rated by transit as a 4* and I would not rate it at that, this is because of the food selection only being 1 buffet available (yes there is always food somewhere) but it is the same food constantly, as someone with celiac disease and not being able to eat bread & pastry which are the only foods available 24/7 it does make it difficult when a substitute isn’t available (I guess my fault for not bringing my own food to an all inclusive, but not fair also) Salads were not available unless u wanted tart greenery’s almost inedible, so you deal with beans & rice for the week, when the buffet is open, fresh eggs at the omelette bar every morning is perfect as well as the fresh fruit & juices, that is wonderful, fresh pasta cooked at dinner is great if you can eat it of course, also the grill each evening when they are cooking whatever is available, it is my opinion with the large amount of people in this resort that they could do a better more variety of selection or even another restaurant or buffet including drinks as they ran out of slushy drinks often & also they are only available at 2 bars, so you have to walk to get what you want and farther if one bar runs out, I have been to 3* resorts in Cuba that offer more food & drink services than here, this was a disappointment for sure!! So...our experience at this resort started with check in, we arrived at 11:30am, now we understand that check in at most places is usually 3pm, with that in mind, of course we were hoping to get in a bit earlier as only 4 couples got dropped off the bus that morning, so we locked our luggage in the lobby room, changed & went about our vacation, as others came in we noticed they were being taken to rooms, so we would ask, we waited patiently and still kept getting put off, we were not taken to our room until just before 5, they told us that due to the delay we have upgraded you to a sea view (which please take note,I think they do this because of your age, being slightly younger than other I suppose (40’) not that old or young but) we originally booked a gardenview room, so this sounded fantastic...so we thought!! Once we arrived, the room was very dated,not to mention 2 single beds not the booked “king..lol I believe it was “J” building to the far right with the disco on the bottom floor as well as an ãla cãrte and the Tuxpan disco resort right beside the building you get put in, so beautiful view I must say, u can get over the musty smell for the view, c’mon it’s the ocean, I’ll take it...until u then notice the smell of mold, then see it growing on the doors in the hallway, so not healthy. (Just clean it) but having cockroaches in your bathroom, sink & beday is just unacceptable, I understand bugs are everywhere but shouldn’t be where one sleeps is all....or tries to sleep, after a long/early day of travel we headed to bed at 9:30 due to being up @ 4am for flight times, however loud music starting blaring at 10pm, I called the desk to ask what was happening outside so loud, I was then informed not to worry it would end at 1:30am each night, it was just the disco next door...yikes We had to move rooms unfortunately, thanks for the upgrade/downgrade but we will stick with our garden view & walk to the beach, so I recommend you not stay on that side unless you are in the party each night is all, some do that & that’s great, it’s just not for everyone is all, so it’s a must know, you should be informed of these things And walking is huge, this resort we noticed is not very accessible, there was a gentleman in a wheelchair who had a hard time getting around & even using bathroom facilities, very sad for this day & age. So take notice of that if you should have any mobility issues!! Not very much to do at this resort, the pics online are outdated, the palapas have been washed away by Irma :( however on nice hot days they do bring out beach umbrellas, which is nice of course. The resort is seeming dated & could of course be freshened up, they don’t seem concerned with the state of it, lots of things in rough shape which to me is alarming as I love Cuba & have been several times so overall it is just not a full 4* and the staff could use some improvements, the front desk for sure has a few unfriendly unsmiling faces which leaves a mark to many, in fact so many stand out as unfriendly however the happy ones of course take over, it’s really too bad with the negatives as 1 can ruin anyone’s day!! Coffee is excellent, you will find the perfect person to make your cup just right for you, it’s amazing & you will for sure bring some home with you!! Take the double decker bus it’s $5CUC per person, u can ride it all day on & off anywhere u just have to wait to get on, they are packed sometimes but so worth it to see everything!! Tania & Nari and of course Carlos at the grill are excellent & stand out for sure... All in all it’s a small resort with a beautiful beach, not much to do, little selection of meals to choose from, careful on the room selection as lower rooms are very musty but top floors seem fine, I can’t recommend this resort but won’t tell you not to go just don’t expect 4* treatment or amenities We couldn’t even get a massage the week we were there and it’s not available on beach as pictured show, just another upset!!

Good services

Facilities not that good but services are very good provided by friendly staff. Good shows and beautiful beaches. Traffic to downtown Varadero is not very convenient but OK. Internet cost $1.5 per hour and only available in the lobby and buffet areas.

Los Cactus: Good enough for me!

The room was fantastic. It had a south facing balcony that trapped in the heat from the sun on the cooler days. I could still build up a sweat and run to the pool for swim. They let some of the food sit for up to two hours before opening the evening buffet. But, the buffet is still not too bad. Staff are great. Just remember to tip a CUC or two once in a while. Good times

It’s a nice friendly resort, not too much to do but the beach is awesome and you are only a short ride into town, stayed for 10 days and would deffenantly do it again. The Italian restaurant is really good the Cuban is good and the buffet works if you missed your a la carte.

Hotel Los Cactus

It was a fabulous, amazing resort! The people were amazing, super nice and absolutely super helpful!!! Food was great!!!!! Just bring your own hot sauce or anything you like to spice it up if that's what you like!!!!! Would go back again!!!! Would recommend to family and friends!!!!

Great for the price

The resort itself was nice, needs better plummimg(toilets don’t flush well) The beds where sleepable ,the food plenty but, always the same.The Staff could use a refresher coarse on customer service.Ihad to ask 3 different staff members to be nice.Big Shout out to Alex he was always there to help.We have been to Cuba roughly a dozen times our last time in Varadaro was 2005 and had the same complaint of the rudeness once we met Megdinna at the lobby bar we were set ! Good time

The hotel was cozy. Needs more entertainment though. Most of the workers were friendly, drinks were good. And the food was okay. Didnt go hungry. 30-40 min walk to down town veradero. Favourite part was down town

Awesome Resort

I really enjoyed this adult only (13 +) resort. I would stay there again however I would stay in the block units (bungalows) not the main junior suites. The main reason for this was not due to the hotel but some of the guests with no lack of respect for others late at night noise in the hallway. However the rooms were excellent. Super resort

Beautiful hotel, service amazing, loved the food, hotel grounds excelente, personnel nothing but the best. You receive mor than what you pay for. Hotel guess become a family because is what the hotel makes you feel. Thank you for recommending me this hotel. Muchas gracias

Amazing resort

the resort was beautiful, the staff was wonderful ,they always had a smile on their face ,rooms were clean and the food was not bad been to cuba 6 times and it was one of the best ,coffee bar could have been opened in the morning ,I would recommend this hotel

Not a good holiday !

Too many things wrong with Los Cactus Hot water for showers would have been good , staff that actually help would be nice also. I know it's Cuba and they do the best they can but it was not a good holiday !
