Great again

We have travelled to kawama twice now both times we have no complaints.You get what u pay for the hotel is close to everything I mean everything,including a great tattoo place which is crazy kids did besides that the friends u meet are so amazing staff always happy it is what is is and u make the best of your trip.we r already booking for jan 2020 again with friends but have now added 12 more woot hoot great time thanks trip central

Fabulous, comfortable and relaxing vacation

Kawama is in a great location on a beautiful stretch of beach (almost a kilometre!) - the beach is kept very clean and there are security staff and life guards on duty. The rooms are comfortable and clean, despite their age. Beds are pretty comfy from my experience of other places in Cuba and the linens are always fresh and pressed. Our room (204) had a nice shared balcony and high ceilings, our AC worked great and the bathroom had excellent pressure and we never ran out of hot water. We had  [... read more]a little bar fridge that was perfect for keeping a container of OJ and water chilled. The grounds are really lovely with lots of palm trees, shady areas, a playground for kids, a gym and sauna, as well as a large central pool and bar area. The main theatre/stage is under a large thatch roof building that is truly beautiful and the nightly entertainment is great. Yeny (entertainment crew) is fabulous at getting everyone involved in spanish lessons, dancing, bingo, volleyball and is also fluent in at least 4 languages - if you need anything translated!! Leida in Public relations is lovely and super helpful for booking a-la-carte meals during your stay (in the lobby 10-12). All the bar and restaurant staff are incredibly friendly and helpful - if you need something, they are more than happy to help figure out a solution for you. pro-tip - bring gifts and they will love you far more than if you leave them a peso! We've found that things like stuffed animals, perfume, makeup, clothing, toiletries and spices are all really excellent ways to say thanks for great service. Already dreaming and planning our next trip to Club Kawama, we had SUCH a great 14 days! Thank you to everyone who made our stay amazing. Fernando at the beach bar (makes the BEST mojito and Sangrias), Yeny in Animacion (please take her some sports balls or any other equipment you have room for!), Leida and Adela, Luis and so many other amazing folks at the restaurants, bars and lobby etc etc. fabulous fabulous fabulous.

My second time there

I like this resort, staff is friendly and the beach is amazing Some rooms are great while others not so great.. But I'm there for the beach. It's amazing! They do a great job at keeping it clean and that try their best to accommodate you if you have any issues. I travelled there by myself this time around and they made sure I had a room close to the main lobby so I didn't have to walk far at night for safety reasons I'll def be back again as note in getting very comfortable with the resort

Surprising Gem

We were prepared for no frills and were pleasantly surprised. We had stayed at a 4 star in March of this year and I’d have to say this resort was just as good as that one and even better in some ways. Firstly, the setup was great. The resort itself is very long and narrow, and the beach stretches the whole length. At the other resort we stayed in there were never enough chairs on the beach or beside the pool. Not the case at Kawama. We could always find chairs and even an umbrella for shade. Our room was at the opposite end of the resort from the main area which was quite a hike back and forth multiple times each day but just outside our room was our very own often private beach which was nicer than the main beach and made up for the walk. This resort had all the same basic amenities as the four star we stayed in previously, but just not as many. For example, there were multiple bars, but not as many open at any given time, Same with the snack bars, these had limited hours and food choices. This resort is in walking distance of the main marketplace in Varadero and the first stop (15 mins) from the airport. Hot water was hit or miss but the maids are very friendly. Security guards are posted at points along the long walk and are very friendly. Bring something to trade with them as they have a long and boring job. If I were to come again I would bring them some special gifts like decks of cards, T-shirt’s, gum, hats, etc. Everyone brings gifts for the maids but these guys are often forgotten and you see/talk to them everyday. You will need to tip well to get good service st the buffet, this would be our biggest complaint, we were always looking for silverware or water and often going without or having to find our own, so tip well.

Beach was great

The hotel to old and not maintained. I got locked in the bedroom and the guy enter from window to open the lock and made the door unsafe from inside. The tv table was broken. I called the reception three times and did not get any respond.

Christmas Paradise/ Club Kawama

This was approx our 15th time to Club Kawama and our only destination to the sun for our vacations. We just returned from 2 weeks during Christmas, it was AWESOME!! The food was amazing and the staff could not do enough. This Resort has so much to offer and the reason so many of us keep returning. We are already planning another trip in Feb 2019......can not wait to return.

Really fun vacation

My friend and I went here and we met the most amazing friends! Everyone was really nice. The beach was clean too. Our first room was shitty so they gave us a better one when we asked. We don’t eat meat or dairy so our food options were limited, but the food wasn’t any worse than what I’ve had before at other resorts. Really close restaurant called Kiki’s, and it’s safe to leave. Overall we had an amazing time!

Aye Kawama

Welcome to your private little village. Two little gift shops, two bars, coffee shop, two pools, massage, gym and winding paths to two storey quaint accommodations. Oh and miles and miles of beach. Remember you are in the oldest hotel in Varedero and in a tropical climate. It is dated and a tad worn down but who needs more than clean sheets? An easy walk into the main area of town and the market or great access to the hop-on-hop-off bus service.

Great Resort

This resort is an older resort and it has it's challenges, but you cannot beat the staff for their kindness and helpfulness. It was our 9th time and they treat us like family. Try it with an open mind and you will be surprised and probably fall in love with it.

Average 3 Star Resort

I have travelled to many 3 star resorts in Cuba so I went to Club Kawama with reasonable expectations. The standard rooms are pretty rough, even by 3 star Cuban standards. The beach is beautiful though it could use a good clean up (plastic litter everywhere). The main pool is quite nice. There is a major flooding issue every night in front of the hotel. You will find it hard to leave the resort in the evening. The reception is another low point. They are quite rude and I am not sure that they ar [... read more]e to be trusted with exchanging money (they were giving 61 cents on the Canadian dollar even though the sign posted stated the exchange rate was .72. They also refuse to issue a receipt). I would be sure to count your change and make sure you ask prices all over Varadero. You gotta watch out for your hard earned money. Food was ok. Plates were hard to come by at the buffet. My 10 year old son spent 24 hours vomiting from a hamburger from the pool snack bar. Would I go back? No. You can do better for around the same price. I hate to give a poor review but in this case I am just being honest.

Satisfactory

Had a good room. Many guests we spoke to said otherwise. I would however spend the extra 100 or so for a better place. The servers were not as eager to please as other resorts I’ve been to. The food was the same in buffet , day to day. Beach was fine, but service was so lousy at all bars, that we went and bought our own booze to have..... Maid was most pleasant person working there.

Okay just ok.

Older hotel that needs work in all areas. Nice staff, ok food not great. Lousy drinks except beer and wine alright. Worn mattress and room could use a deep clean. Many faults but ok at the right place. Location is good and quite walkable.

Amazing resort

I have been to kawama many times but it seems to be losing its luster. The main pool was out.of.order.my whole trip ...food.wasn't.it's finest...room was flooded for.2.days because not.enough help to.clear water. But I still.will.return to kawama as.they try their hardest

Exceeded our expectations!

On our fifth visit to Cuba, we stayed at the Hotel Club Kawama. It was the best visit. From the front desk to the beach, the amenities and service exceeded our expectations. The daily buffet meals were especially good.

Kawama enjoyed times eight!

Kawama has become a home away from home for me! The staff are fantastic, the food has lots of variety so it is never boring. The restaurants within the hotel are varied, from pizza to steak, and then there is the lobster!! Pork, chicken and the omelettes for breakfast! I enjoy Kawama each time I go, also the entertainment in the evening! Wonderful variety again. The bubble parties in the pool, there is always something to do. Awesome Resort !!

My first time at this hotel in Varadero !! What's not to love about Kawama from the scenery to all the lovely people working at the resort !! I will definitely be returning in November! Can't wait to see everyone again. Much love to all !

Good resort if you’re on a budget !

The resort it self was aged, but it was close to the airport and the city which was nice. The beach was gorgeous, but the pool area definitely needs upgrading and more shade!! This resort is no more than a 2 star in my opinion, for people looking for a cheap relaxing stay with minimal night life this is your kind of place! The Italian restaurant was awesome, the staff is fairly accommodating.. make sure you ask front desk to be close to the main area because if not they may place you in the old [... read more]er rooms that are a 10-15 minute walk away from everything!! Would only go back to this resort if it was on for a super cheap deal for an easy get away.

Ok but wouldn't return

Garden property was nice and upkept. Buildings are ok but so old. Rooms were pretty bad. No bedding and not enough pillows and never was provided when asked multiple times. Tips were left with no result. Toilets leaking and ceiling flooded. Staff put bucket under leak :( Ended up leaving room. Staff was all super accomodating then. Rude coffee bar staff and lack of service permeates all service areas. One incredible buffet staff however!! Food so-so but not great. Definitely our whole group of 1 [... read more]0 no one would recommend returning. For same cost there are much better places. Beach is shining light of resort. Beautiful Cuban beach, clean with lots of seating and umbrellas. Lifeguards were careful with severe undertoe however and much appreciated for safety.

Club Kawama

A beautiful place in Cuba to stay. Thier al carts could be better the Cuban one was the best international was out of everything and what we did get served tasted bad we walked out without eating more then a few bites and one of our group ended up sick the next day

Still the best!

Seems that they are upgrading the grounds and rooms. No shortage of hot water,all services were working the two weeks I spent there. The staff was most pleasant at all times,of course tipping helped. No complaints at all,a most pleasant holiday,weather helped as well,no rain. Thank you for the effort to be able get the time I wanted. So I would say a perfect holiday.
