Great Vacation

I notice a great change in meals offered at the buffet. The service at all the bars was excellent. I requested they change my room on arrival (Wednesday) because of no water pressure and the smell of fuel and they changed us on Friday noon. From then on was excellent and our made a sweetheart. This was the 3rd time for me.

Very Nice resort

We really enjoyed our stay at the Roc Barlovento. Had a few issues on the first day such as no hot water, but we reported it and it was fixed. Trying to get pesos for tipping at the front desk was a challenge. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to return to this resort. Very happy with our vacation.

Nice resort

This resort is clean and friendly , good location. The choice of food good but cold. The homemade bread very good and icecream. Water pressure in room very low and cold. Service in buffet is good. Chambermaid is also good

Roc Barlovento

Hi. The three of us had a great time at Barlovento and would go back there again. The staff could not have been any more friendly or accommodating. The first night when we got there we had asked for a second floor room but were on the first floor in the morning we went to the front desk and asked to be moved to the second floor no problem within a hour we had our new room. The second room the water was cold so we asked to have some hot water for our shower and that was corrected right away.  [... read more]No problems after that. Every one talks about the bland food we had no problems with the food only they should keep boiling water in the buffet tables where they place the hot food to keep it warmer. There was always the pasta bar which was very good. We had on different occasions roasted turkey, roasted chickens, half a pig roasted and the portion were great. we had roast beef (we are used to Alberta beef and there was n o comparison). The lunch hour there was bar-b-que bar close to the ocean that was really great. We went there every day. There is entertainment every day at lunch time, music every night in the lobby and a nighty show every night ranging from dancing , singing, water ballet, something different every night. Talked to couples that have been there 11 times and love it the best of all hotels on the Varedaro beaches. It is the most central to all things, only 2 city blocks from the markets. There was all age groups there from older teens to middle age all having a wonderful time.

Nice Resort but needs alot of upgrades

The hotel was probably beautiful when it was new.Your accommodations were nothing fancy, just adequate. This was our 6th time to Cuba and one of the friendliest resorts we have been to. The animation staff were fun and interacted with all the people in the resort. They put on some great shows every night. The three pools looked clean although we preferred to swim in the ocean everyday. You had to be there early to get seats for the day. The buffet was always set up nicely and clean. They did not seem to want you to drink too much wine as your glass was only half filled at all times. The resort is right in town so you could walk around for the day if you wanted. We went to Havana for the day and had lunch in a really nice restaurant. The city still looks the same, needs a lot of building repairs. I think they only show you what they want you to see. Really poor people but look happy and friendly. We had a great holiday. We knew what to expect in Cuba.The weather and the beaches are just beautiful.

Good resort

The Roc Barlevento was certainly better than I was expecting based on photos, but it still needs a lot of work! The one pools liner was ripped and uneven where as the other pools were tile and in excellent condition. The staff was great for the most part and most of them spoke English well enough. The worst part for me was the food, it was tasteless or if you found something you liked and went for it the next day it could change different. But I know I had one of the lower end rooms and my friend who was staying in a different room at other side of the resort had a beautiful room!! The beach was beautiful no negative comments!

Will definitely return!

Stayed Jan 9 to 20th, enjoyed the resort, staff and entertainment. Great location, walking distance to several markets. The buffet was pretty much the same every day but always found enough to eat. The sushi restaurant was my favorite a-la carte, with Fusion second and the Mexican was just ok.

Highly recommended

This was our second visit to Barlevento. Many changes in the 5 years between trips, all improvements. The small prearranged al la carte reservations and beach towels at check-in were a welcome surprise. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Well worth the money!

Although we read many positive and negative reviews on this hotel we were pleasantly suprised. The food was plentiful and good. The beach was beautiful and it was a five minute walk to the main market in Varadero. We would definitely consider returning to this resort.

Awesome resort

We had an amazing time at Rock Barlovento we took two teenagers and they had something for every age group. Food was more then what I thought we would be eating, always somewhere to eat even at 4am :) right beside the town so close to night clubs, restaurants and shopping. Maids and all other employees were great to us. Everything was confined so didn't have to walk distances to go anywhere in the resort. Very clean resort inside and out. Amazing Property

This was our second time at this property. We enjoyed our stay as it is perfect location for walking in evening watching the fishermen & families fishing or shrimping under the bridge. Not a large property which we prefer. Meals have a large enough variety to chose from and dining room is clean. Maid service was great and rooms were clean no children allowed so allows for more quiet vacation. Although we did have to put up with noisy late night partiers but that will be at all resorts regardless [... read more] of size or price. They aim to please with whatever they have.

Nice location

Good location, close to center of Varadero. Clean grounds and pools, very nice beach. Clean room. Bath needs to be renovated. Food is fair but acceptable. Most staff are smiling and courtious. Had 2 a la carte suppers ok.

Solid average mid-range AI

23rd trip to Cuba as tourist, tour leader, working with/for Cuban govt. Have travelled from Baracoa to Vinales and in-between, at AIs, friends homes and Casas. 3rd time at Barlevento. Best location: at the south end of town, everything in the core right outside resort. No kids, mostly older crowd. If you can get this place for a good price, take it. Ask for room away from main pool/stage.... noise goes from about 3 to 10:30 pm.Staff awesome, esp. if you have some Spanish. Awesome Resort

The hotel staff is always friendly, and helpful. The rooms and grounds are always clean, and the food is good. Always found something to eat. The resort is located close to downtown Varadero, and a short walk will take you to the market. Always a pleasure to return to this resort, to see friends.

Great location, great value

This hotel is very quaint The grounds are lush & simple...no need for a golf cart to get around. The beach is spectacular & just minutes from basically anywhere by foot. The buffet was plentiful for the non fussy. The fusion à la carte was quite delicious & better than the Mexican Our room was very clean although the mattress has lived it's life & should retire. Location, location, location & simplicity

A small intimate resort

This was our 6th time to Cuba & had stayed at Roc Barlovento last year for a month. we enjoyed ourselves a great deal last year & again went for a month this year . It was even better than last year. The new manager Angel could be seen every day ,walking the resort to ensure all was in order for the resort guests. The food was very good & the entertainment so very enjoyable. All of the bar staff are very pleasant & like to interact with the guests. The beach is just beautiful & the pool is well looked after by the two young men & is at all times kept very clean. If any problem arise just go to the Customer service ( Katina ) & you will be helped.The Customer service at this resort is exceptional. We are already planning our trip back next year. Fair value for your money

We new before we left that the Hotel Roc Belovento was not a five star resort. It was exactly what we expected. It is an old resort and it shows it. The grounds were clean. The staff were grumpy. We guessed became of it being the end of the season. Two ladies Hilda and one in the buffet were very friendly. So was the entaintertamint staff. The pool needs a good cleaning. The second pool has a liner and its discolored and in need of repair. The beaches are beautiful. The food was better than I  [... read more]expected. Same thing most nights but we all ate fine. When we found our room after asking for a newly renovated room we got a old room. It was musty until we got the air conditioning on and aired out the room. We were supposed to get each a bottle of water we got one for three people. When we wanted to sit on are balcony we found a huge dead mouse/rat. The next day it was gone. Theresa are fantastic cleaning staff either got rid of it or one of the many resorts cats found it. Unfortunately there are many around the resort along with lots of dogs which I love and was saddened by the lack of any kind of vet care. Some were in such bad shape. We attempted to arrange to rescue one of them but couldn't get enough information on how to do so. We got an amazing deal for the price of this adult only resort. So we didn’t complain.

Good Vacation

I stayed in this hotel for several times. This was the best one. They renovated the restaurant and the bedding had a better quality. The staff are friendly. The only problem was the flies. There is a lot...

Very Nice Resort

This resort was very simple and beautiful. The beach was amazing and I had a lovely experience here with my fiancé.The service was great, everybody extremely nice, attentive and friendly.The site is very clean and well maintained. My only real complaint about the hotel is about the stains on the bedding and the towels, they need to replace these items sooner rather than later and that would make such a difference to the whole place. The beach is very beautiful and cleaned every morning.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION & FOOD WAS GREAT

RIGHT ON THE OCEAN. LOVELY POOLS. EASY WALK TO THE TOWN FOR SHOPPING, SIGHTSEEING & OTHER RESTAURANTS. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT IN THE MEXICAN, MEDITERRANEAN AND THE SHUSI RESTAURANTS. THERE WERE BBQ'S AT THE OUTSIDE PATIO EACH LUNCH HOUR WHICH HAD DELICIOUS MEATS.
