Another enjoyable experience

A great value resort. Our fourth time. It is relatively small, therefore intimate. Staff very friendly. You get to know and interact most of your fellow guests (many were also repeat guests) Food is good for a 3 star resort. Grounds are clean and well kept. Site is a haven for kite surfers as the beach is shallow. The resort, as with all of Cayo Coco resorts, is isolated so excursions are limited.

Like a cottage experience with everything included

I have returned to this resort 6 times, and each time the services get better. it is a 3 (3.5) star. don't expect a 5 star. It is like going to a cottage with all the amenities of a resort, rooms were spotless, food was acceptable and drinks, well wine is wine and beer is beer. The people are friendly and remember what you like to drink and eat after a day of being there. You can walk on the beach for hours. Will return for a 7th time!

Cuba is always amazing

Gran Caribe Cayo Guillermo was quite pretty.. The concierge was fantastic There is even a blow up slide for the kids(I am the biggest kid) the water is VERY shallow and the beach is "narrow" (great for kids) kind of lake erie Kite surfers are dangerous but were having a lot of fun Snorkel excursion to the reef was nice BUT the nolitours representative was inattentive/lazy and NOT helpful. She cancelled our trip to Moron city then left a message with a different room(or so she claims) ...luckily  [... read more]we bumped into her the day before(as we were trying to get on the snorkel tour that she forgot to tell the operator we were going on) We got a refund but now we will never enjoy the sights and people of Moron city because she didn't offer a "different" idea.. Most servers were unhelpful(try to get a spoon) and front desk was dismissive Two of ALL the staff actually made up for all the rest

Amazing resort! Fulfilled all of my needs

I love everything about this hotel. I booked a week here since its beach paradise for kitesurfers. Although hotel said 3 star, I slept in this beautiful rustic cabanas near the beach, the food was delish..I even had blue cheeze in my omelette and the best crêpes, the wine was good, the beach was incredible, sunny everyday I was there. 24 Hours there was TOO Long!!!

Cabanas worse than a tent. Holes in walls and not soundproof. Mosquitoes a problem, many bites and we live in N Ontario, and are aware of bugs. Not much food at buffet, trays empty and staff was not refilling them. Main desk staff un-courteous, aignored you. When we were ready to move to Sol Cayo Guillermo they would not send the electric cart to get our luggage. Had to carry them ourselves from the furthest Cabanas worse than a tent. SCG lovely resort, Good food, Nice rooms, Pool, Beach, & Staff. we have never moved or complained before on our many vacations, but had to this time. Actually wasted our 1st 2 days there. Gran Carribe wanted to upgrade our room for $350C but the food would have been the same. Our vacation did turn out great at SCG.

Good resort, Great staff

Hotels rooms are clean and spacious. Beach is beautiful. Nice, large cold pool. Hotel grounds are well kept. Multiple options for food. Wifi access. Great staff. Dock could be fixed on beach for safety.

Great Resort

This is a nice little resort. The staff are wonderful. The cabins are cozy. The food is Cuban. The rum flows generously. The pool is nice, my daughter enjoyed the inflatable slides. The entertainment is ok. The beach is small and the best part of the beach is for kite surfing.

Vacation in Cayo Guillermo.

My name is Hans and I visited the resort with my spouse Dana. My overall impression was that I was satisfied. There are three things that I am looking for in my vacation; sun, beach and comfort. I did not get much sun but what can you do? The beach in Cayo Guillermo is not what I was looking for because I like to swim but it was not possible unless you walked 300 meters in the ocean. Having said that, the Cuban personnel was amazing, friendly, very nice and that everywhere. That is why I always go to Cuba. I was very disappointed with the exchange between Canadian dollars and Cuban convertible pesos, 100$ equaled 71$ pesos, absolutely ridiculous. My stay was very nice after we changed from the cabana to the bungalow, which was absolutely gorgeous (the cabana wasn't). I enjoyed the food very much, I am a fish and fruit lover so it was excellent as was the entertainment. I wish I had better weather, it was three and a half days sunshine and the rest was a washout. If you have good weather it's a very relaxing resort.

Relaxation at its finest

My wife and I visited this resort from Feb 01 to Feb 08 2015. We left the kids at home with Grandma so we could have some quiet time away from our family and home based restaurant we run in Ontario's cottage country. This resort is exactly what we needed, smaller, great service and all the amenities you would need. The food was average for Cuba, however there was always something to eat. It was a very shallow part of the ocean so if you are big swimmer this is not the place for you. If you like long walks on the beach and walking out onto sandbars in crystal clear water than try this resort. We met a lot of lovely people and the staff was exceptional.

Fabulous staff and resort!

I can't find enough words to describe the staff at the resort. They were amazing, especially when my brother in law became sick. The pools were clean and the food was super. The crazy games were a blast and my family would definitely return again!

Fabulous time!

This was our first time at Allegro Club and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The resort is small, but very spread out so you never felt crowded even when the resort was full. It was windy for the first couple of days which allowed the kite surfers to do their thing and they were amazing to watch! Our room was clean, bug free, the a/c worked very well as did the hot water which came with lots of water pressure. Beds were very comfy. Food was plentiful with a lot of variety daily, we never went [... read more] hungry. As it goes in Cuba, the bread is to die for and of course, the bananas are the best in the world! The staff was very friendly, within the first day you're on a first name basis with all of them. The Hemingway Bar in the lobby serves the best coffee I've ever tasted, bar none. We only encountered two negatives during our time there. One, a minor inconvenience was that our TV didn't work and after asking for a remote control for three days I finally gave up. (Wasn't there to watch TV anyway, but some noise in the room at nighttime would have been nice.) Another was our room safe. The night we arrived, our porter showed us the safe which should have opened with our room key. The safe wouldn't open so he assumed it was the batteries to the lock with the mechanism being locked inside the safe. He reported it to front desk that night and by early afternoon the next day with no one coming by, I also reported it. Again, no one came by to fix it so I reported it again the third day. Again, nothing. Then I spoke to my Hola Sun rep who also took me to the front desk to report the problem. Four requests in four days to have it fixed got us nowhere. This in turn caused me to carry our money and passports everywhere we went. Aside from that though, it was a great trip and a great time!

Resort had many issues

We traveled here with 4 other couples between Christmas an New Years 2014. Many issues with the resort. 1. No running water for hours at a time. This has a direct impact to showers and toilets. We were told the water issue was affecting other resorts on the area as well. Restaurants couldn't open on time due to no water. 2. Clean beach towels only available every 4 days. We got beach towels the day we arrived, then after that a 4 day wait. Some people were there for days before they got a towel. [... read more] BTW - the resort will charge you $20 for a lost towel. Once again we were told this issue was not isolated to our resort. 3. Bugs more specifically sand fleas. Came home with over 200 bug bites. Not sure why we didn't pack bug spray. I realize the items above are out of the control of the resort. Here is a list of items the resort can and should correct: 1. Always running out of plates in the buffet restaurant. Plus layout needs tweaking, always waiting for food. BTW - don't even bother with the Cuban a la carte restaurant, it was terrible. The Italian a la carte was good. 2. Air conditioners, phones, fridges and showers do not work in all rooms. You would be lucky if you got something fixed. 3. Be careful not to lock yourself out on the balcony. It happened to us more than once. 4. Furniture in need of repair, missing handles, etc. Our friends bed was actually missing a leg. Overall the food was good, beach was nice (very shallow), and the people were friendly. Definitely a two star resort based on so many things broken or not working. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the food was good.

Made the best of it but won't be back

Traveled from Dec 28th through Jan 4 with a group total of 10. Grounds-keeping a noticeable tell-tale upon arrival - they should keep a goat on site. First day arrival saw rooms ready around 5pm and later than expected. As a group of 10 (8 arriving - 2 in earlier) an offer of "here's a temp room to store luggage and change into your beach wear/enjoy amenities while you wait for your rooms" would have been nice - I might say expected - but I recall no such offer. Intermittent water supply issues, [... read more] reportedly not a resort matter, meant a few days without running water (no shower/no flush - you decide what's more important) and a stretch of 4 days with no access to a simple beach towel until "once" prior to departure gave new meaning to the importance of evaporation. Our travel mates had to have a non-working AC unit replaced (after several days of "maintenance will get tuit today promises" - and a good thing really it finally was as both spent a day and a half inside thanking that the water Gods chose that time to be bountiful - a flush was possible during their period of recovery) and we had to do our own "repairs" to get a few showers working. Resort did fog for biting bugs on numerous occasions but bring repellent if you decide to go along with Benadryl and various other proven Western concoctions of anti-inflammatory / anti-itch medications - although the Doctor that personally gave me a shot in the rear to slow the oozing was very very pleasant! In terms of room quality, I might rank it one notch above sleeping in a lounger on the beach however personally; it offered protection and reprieve from those nasty little buggers you can't see. 2 twin beds we pushed together- one with a broken leg - made movement between my wife & I certainly more entertaining than usual - I think that might have been our collective trip highlight. I can say however; that the cleaning staff did do a good daily job. On the food front - no real complaints on selection, taste or quality - it was actually better than what I was prepared for although waiting for clean plates then lining up to fill them meant any additional calories one might expect to pack on while away on vacation were effectively burnt off during the anxiety of being "almost there". As a close to my review - we traveled with several couples who make Cuba a regular (and on more than one occasion annually) experience who report a hit and miss on the Cuban experience and summed up our adventure by saying "that's Cuba". We know many that have had great experiences. For us, a good groups of friends made the week. I'm only saddened by the fact that I will never again get the chance to say "ola" or "amigo" to the several very friendly resort staff I became acquainted with during my stay. Cuba - I might be back. Gran Caribe Club Cayo Guillermo - we've shared our only one life's precious moments together.

It was ok!

The hotel staff were fine. The rooms were good! We had no beach towels for four days! No running water thru out the whole stay! I wended up sick for 3 days and was in bed! The day trips were the best part of the trip

Good Value

The hotel is good but there is room for improvement. The food was excellent for a 3 stars hotel. The pool with a toboggan is excellent for children. The people is gentle and always trying to serve well. Nice happy hour with live music.

Great Vacation!

Traveled to Gran Caribe Club Cayo Guillermo Nov 22/14(14days) Will always Love Cuba! This is a very relaxing vacation, the most Beautiful Beaches in the world! The people are so happy to see you! You can not compare Cuba to other distinations, you go on holidays to enjoy the beach,sand,sun and most of all the culture. I go on vacation to do just that. All you need is a clean room to sleep in, your there to be outdoors! You can not starve in Cuba! But you will not get what your used to at home. Great place

Food pretty good. Decent variety for Cuba. Plenty of hot water. Room was clean and comfortable. It is a 3 star place so you have to have realistic expectations. But all in all it is great value. Service staff is great just not enough of them at key times.

Worst Vacation Yet

This was our Fourth trip to Cuba. The resort was small which we liked. However the beach was a mess of seaweed and was never cleaned. In our room the TV didn't work and it took four requests to get it fixed. The inside door handle came off every time we opened the door and it never got fixed. The sand fleas nearly destroyed my legs and I am still suffering after arriving home. The buffet was poorly organized and the service was horrific. The rum served at the bar was of the poorest quality we ha [... read more]ve ever had and when I tasted it straight it was watered down. The Sunquest rep was useless and appeared more interested in eating than providing help. Also it was too difficult to change money. Cuba needs to improve its quality or drop its prices.

Friendly Resort

This is not a fancy hotel. There is not a town nearby, or even many other hotels, so it feels a bit remote. However, it's a great spot to just hangout at the beach or pool, or to go snorkeling or sailing. The rooms are very clean, the staff are competent and very friendly. Many who visit become regulars. I've been 14 times and I'm far from the most frequent visitor. It can be a bit windy on the beach, especially in winter months.

Simple with no vegetarian option

Our experience was not good, despite rooms were clean! Our fridge didn't work for four days, no vegetarian food option except some salad and bread. The meat was not cooked. We had a group of six Canadian families during our stay and all lost weight! The last night performance was insulting to Canadian and my son suffered allergies due to entertainers pouring cream, flour and egg on his face as part of routine stage invitation to act !
