Resort is excellent we love it

our hotel was excellent,it has everything that we need the cleaners came every day to tidy up supply us with water every one is so friendly. the ground is nice and clean with palm and coconut trees and lots of beautiful flowers, the buffay food is great we enjoy it every night there is different shows, the wagon takes us all around the resort we took two excursions one to mayan ruins and one to chichin itza we went to matis jewel store, tequila testing, cigar rolling and 5th ave we did lots of s [... read more]hopping. tripcentral send me a gift card of a 100 dollars i was so busy i cound not use it at the air port. Overall we had a great time in mexico and we will go back again when the right time comes.

Great Family Vacation!

We just got back this week from our 10 nights stay at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum. It was a fantastic trip for my wife, my two daughters (ages 4 and 7) and myself! We would definitely go back to this resort again. Checking in We arrived at the resort around 3pm via a Best Day tours shuttle after a 1hr15min drive from the airport. We were lucky because there was only one couple in front of us checking in. Checking in takes a bit of time because the staff make sure to explain some highlight [... read more]s of the resort on a map that they provide you with. If you are thirsty they will happily give you a cocktail, beer or whatever you fancy. A trolley will then take you and your luggage to your room. The Rooms We had a basic Junior Suite, I believe they call it. In villa 27 on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the nicely maintained grounds. The room was very clean and was a decent size. Nice bathroom and plenty of room for storage. Room included a stocked bar fridge. There is a safe in the room that requires you to take a key with you. We found it easiest to keep the key in our camera case when leaving the room. $40 charge if you lose it! The A/C worked great. The room was very very quiet at night! We didn’t have any bugs in the room or any issues with the room. There were two queen size beds pushed together so my wife and I slept on each end with the kids between us. The Lobby The lobby has recently undergone a renovation so it is nice and fresh! There are a number of things going on in the lobby. Things that we found to be important to note was the room to book you’re a la carte dinners, which can also be done via the Bahia app. The app and the wifi were not the most reliable. There is a desk with staff who may approach you. They are calling it a privilege club, but it is a timeshare sell. We were roped into it not knowing until we got to the presentation that it was a timeshare sell. We got a hat, couple of t-shirts, a few tickets to the Thursday night Mexican fiesta and a bottle of tequila so it wasn’t a total waste. Not a deal we were looking for; especially because they said we had to decide that day only. General Grounds This resort is huge! There are trollies running along the walking paths. It is worth spending the few minutes to figure out the trolley routes. We found there weren’t many trollies that serviced getting to and from the rooms to Tulum lobby. But there were many trollies going to and from Tulum and Coba lobbies. You need to take a trolley to get from Tulum to Coba, etc. Again, it is a huge resort and we found it beneficial to familiarize ourselves from the map how to get to the beach, pools, bars and restaurants. Especially with our four year old in the heat, we wanted to make sure we knew where we were going and if we could take a trollies to get there. The grounds are very well maintained and we enjoyed walking around and enjoying the palm trees and wild life. Like any resort, if you want a good spot you’ll have to get towels and bring your stuff down before breakfast. Please, if you are not going to use the spot don’t reserve it! Some mosquitoes flying around at night so bring bug spray. Note also there are bees flying around. My wife got stung. Might be a good idea to bring kids allergy medicine and an after bite/sting ointment. You’ll notice bats and dragonflies flying around in the evenings eating up all the mosquitoes! Restaurants There is one dinner buffet in the Tulum area. Such a great presentation of food and a great variety. We found the food to be very good quality too, not just good quantity. We discovered that the main buffet restaurant has an eating area that is air conditioned. We found this useful especially for breakfasts. Keeping the children happy during meals made it easier for us! The Brazilian restaurant near the small pool also has breakfast buffet, not air conditioned and smaller variety but it was nice because it was closer to our room. We tried the Mediterranean, Brazilian, Gourmet and Tequila restaurants. The food and the service at the Brazilian one was best. Tequila was the best venue. Bring your reservation slip with you. We found the snack bar by the beach was the best for lunch. Make yourself some tacos, grab a beer and enjoy lunch by the beach! Kids can serve themselves ice cream cones! The only negative thing about the restaurant experience is the service in the buffet restaurants. The staff were working very hard but it seems they were understaffed. Probably a cost cutting measure by management. Bars My favourite was the beach bar on the beach between the smaller pool and the main pool in Tulum area. Samuel was bartending while we were there. Really nice guy who took extra care in making the drinks. Swim up bars in the main pools are always fun. Lobby bars got busy at night but if a line formed it made it easier for the bartenders to serve everyone in fair order. Self-serve tequila bar! It was in the Tulum lobby bar area. What a great idea! Pools The smaller pool was a bit quieter and quite smaller than the main pool at Tulum. We didn’t go to this pool very much even though it was close to our room. The main pool was nicer, larger and more fun. Music playing, a swim-up bar, some fun pool games and more places to pull up a chair to sit and relax. The main pool at Coba was probably the nicest one because of the trees and bushes all around the area. There is a kid’s water park in this area too. Great place for the kids to play! Beach We knew ahead of time that the beach would be a bit rocky so we brought water shoes after reading other reviews. You will need water shoes! Because it is rocky it makes for some decent snorkeling. The swimming area of the beach is shallow so very beginner level, but fun, snorkeling. When we were there, around three half days the beach was not swimmable. A tonne of seaweed washed in. We were amazed how quick it washed in. But, we were also amazed at the great effort by the staff working for the company cleared it all away! They were there the entire time clearing out the seaweed. They also have a temporary barrier in the water to control the amount of seaweed coming to the beach. My wife spoke to one of the workers in the water and he said the seaweed has been especially bad since around February this year; hence the temporary barrier. It is a bit of an eyesore, but it really didn’t negatively affect out vacation. We still hung out on the beach pretty much every day! Our daughters swam in the ocean together without any issues with the rocks or seaweed. The bad seaweed days we just swam in the pool more! If you are after a place with a pristine beach you may want to look elsewhere to be honest. Not the resorts fault, it is what it is. Night Entertainment The shows at night were very well done. My wife and I enjoyed them just as much as our kids did! Great job to all of the performers! To summarize my highlighted points are: Resort is nicely maintained and very clean. It is a huge resort. Family friendly resort. Beach is so-so due to the rocks and seaweed. Snorkeling is good right at the beach. Fish and crabs to see. Bring water shoes, bug spray, children’s allergy medicine and after bite/sting ointment. Bring one more sunblock than you think you’ll need. Waterproof case for safe key, camera, etc would be handy. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the resort and the trolley routes. If you are not interested in timeshare, don’t waste your time with the ‘Privilege Club’ staff in the main lobby, even if they offer to give you free stuff. Go see the night shows after dinner! If you don't want to go off the resort or waste your time shopping, go to the shopping area near the entrance of the resort. Great little shops there, fun Mexican stuff for sale at reasonable prices!

Tulum excitement

Hotel was great lots of restaurants and pool activities, food was great and service was ok. The only thing i really didn't like was the beach area which was full of seaweed I'm guessing it was the time of year but it should have been cleaned up as best as they can. I really loved the markets which was walking distance from our vila. Overall i would give it a 8 out of 10.

Great Time!

We stayed in the Tulum resort for a bachelor party and had a great time. Despite some bad weather for the first couple of days, the resort itself was awesome! The resort is quite large so you will be doing lots of walking unless you catch a shuttle at the lobby. The rooms were nice and equipped with AC , the food was pretty much the same in the buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner, unless you book an a la carte which were pretty good. Great resort!!

Hotel rooms were great! Very clean and well organized. Food was incredible and very well made. Loved the entertainment at night, in the pool and around the resort! Only issue we had was the seaweed that covered the beach but definitely not any fault of the resort! The entire place was incredible I will definitely be booking this again!

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

We stayed at Bahia Principe Tulum May 7th to the 14th. All in all we had a great vacation, however it wasn’t to our expectations. I’ll break it down into sections for you. Beach: The beach was beautiful, the maintenance guys works extremely hard all hour of day and night to try and maintaine the seaweed issue, however no fault to the resort but the beach was un-swimable. The unfortunate problem wa [... read more]s where they were housing the seaweed caused an amazing disgusting smell around the pool area where the dolphins are. Dolphins on resort: I have to say I had/have a huge issue with the environment these dolphins are living in, its an old small pool which isn’t enough space for them to naturally be happy. The resort really pushes the dolphin swim which seemed to be more of a show an tell. I couldn’t in my right mind support the exhibit, however the kids wanted to watch the show and I reluctantly agreed. To my surprise, the dolphins appeared to be very healthy (in my non professional opinion) their colour was beautiful, temperment was happy and over all treatment from trainers was extremely gentle. Food: Well I am not a picky eater by any means, and I enjoy trying new things. I have to admit the food at this resort was particularly disappointing. I feel they needed to offer more fresh fish/meat/poultry gril stations instead of everything being precooked and placed in warmers. The selection in the buffet was less then appealing, and always empty treys. A la carts: Good luck booking them, we were really hoping to secure 3 reservations and unfortunately we were unable to get any. I’m not sure what the process is to reserving prior to arriving at the resort, but if you wait until you arrive be prepared to eat at the buffets. Very disappointed with this factor Drinks: Never had any consistency, you could order the same drink from the same server or multiple servers and it was never the same. The over poor alcohol way too much (I’m sure its okay for some) however, they should over upon consumer request. Tulum/Coba/Akumal: The resort us huge, having three resort linked together. Tulum is definitely the PARTY resort, if your travelling with children I would recommend Coba as it is definitely more family oriented but still offering plenty of entertainment for all ages. (The buffet was also much better at Coba then Tulum) To my understanding Tulum is the oldest resort out of the three and is definitely noticeable. Akumal is privat club and absolutely stunning, if you have the $$$ I would go here. Coba, is more updated then Tulum and the staff seem friendlier. Entertainment: All entertainment guys were awesome, however you can tell they are over worked. By the evening entertainement you had to wonder if they had slept. They are amazing talented members of the team, I felt bad for them more then anything as they must be doing 15 - 16 hour days easily. Pools: All good, well maintained. Nothing really to review here, all was good. Rooms: We stayed in Tulum the rooms where small, smelt very muggy which I’m sure is to do with the environment. There is a dresser in each room with 3 drawers, so I wouldn’t over pack unless you want to live out of your suitcase for the week. There was a closet there from most clothes to be hanged however travelling as a family space was very limited. Staff: I have to say I was shocked with the staff, apart from a selected few (Luis serving staff at buffet, Romario mini bar) everyone came across miserable. They didn’t care to talk to you, especially omlet station it wouldn’t hurt to crack a smile on occasion, I felt giving her my order was a huge inconvenience. We normally tip very well, and I have to say I wasn’t encourage to do it because of their attitude Excursion: We did the Tulum ruins / Xel-Ha I would highly recommend both these excursions, we did them both on the same day and booked them thru West Jet. Absolutely amazing expierence, and a must do!

Great stay

Excellent clean grounds, great food in a la carte restaurants and buffets, good entertainment program. Large pools. The beach is average, some days lots of seaweed. Overall great stay in this huge resort complex.

Disappointed

My husband and I have been travelling south for 15 years. This is the first time we have been so disappointed in the resort. We called our travel agent before going, as we had been told the beach was a mess with large piles of seaweed. He assured us that it was cleaned up. Apparently it has been a problem for some time as they had large man made barriers to try and keep the seaweed out. We could only swim in very shallow water. The resort itself was very clean and beautiful, the main lobby was a [... read more]lso closed for renovation, making it difficult to get around. The staff was kind and the food good. The drinks were poor quality, very difficult to find a good drink. I would never go back to this resort or recommend it to my friends.

Beach of seaweed

The grounds were well kept the food was excellent, the beach was poor, there really was no swimming just wading up to your waist in warm water and there was so much seaweed, they raked and hauled seaweed all day long. They actually had loaders and backhoes on the beach hauling it away. The beach was short and really difficult to walk along.

Amazing resort

The staff were fabulous. They made the biggest difference. The waitors knew how to put a smile on ur face. Super clean place. A five star grounds and rooms were better than most. The entertainment was a awesome. Lots of different things going on and excursions for you to book.

This resort was ....okay.

The restaurants and buffet were quite nice, and the swim up bar is perfect for these hot days. It was my own neglect for not reading more about the resort before going, but the things that were a bit of a bummer were: 1) No room service, you cant even pay for it. 2) There are no waiters/waitresses at the pool or on the beach, so you do need to go to the bar to get beverages yourself. Not the worst problem to have, I know it sounds a bit spoiled, but every resort I have ever stayed at has h [... read more]ad this as an option so I was a bit disappointed. 3) The resort is massive, so be prepared to have a hotel room 5-10 minutes walk from the lobby/lobby bar/buffet/spa. They do however have shuttles running, so you can catch a ride quite frequently. 4) There is free Wi-Fi in the lobby only. I personally don't need to have internet at my fingertips constantly, but my travel partner has kids at home and wanted to be reachable. They have paid options for Wi-Fi, but they were listed as quite expensive. A tip for anyone going there - when you select the free Wi-Fi (while you are in the lobby), they give you an option for $10 for a full week. But if you don't originally select free Wi-Fi and you go directly to the Wi-Fi package options, there is no $10 option for your full stay, only the $10 per day option or more expensive for a full week. A bit sneaky if you ask me. The staff were lovely, and the room was good enough and clean. I would suggest staying at the Akumal resort if you want more of the luxuries, and their beach is better (WAY less seaweed). If you are a spa user - the one at Coba had a better circuit than the Tulum. I wouldn't stay here again personally, but we still had an amazing time, especially with the daily entertainment at the party pool. I am usually a backpacker that stays in hostels, so I am not typically a super fussy traveler. But when I go to a resort, I prefer all of the luxuries of being a lazy beach bum :)

Beautiful, Well Kept Resort

The resort is huge with lots of options for food, pools and activities. The resort, including the rooms, is clean and well kept. The pools were very nice, towel service was easy, and it was never a problem finding a chair (mid April). The food at the restaurants and buffets was very good with lots of selection. The Gran Tortuga-Rodizio Restaurant has a buffet for breakfast and lunch and is a wonderful place to eat overlooking the ocean. The shuttle service between the other sections of the resort is quick and efficient. The only downside was that the beach was full of seaweed, but they were working around the clock to try to clear it away.

Grand Bahia Principe Aazin Resort

I do give this resort a full 5 star. As the food is just amazing. The rooms were great and the maids and mini bar person took care of us everyday, but please remember tips and small gifts make a difference. They treat you like Royalty. The grounds of this place is immaculate well taken care of. Golf trolleys take you everywhere, to rooms or shopping-free of course. I recommend this resort and the other three sister resorts, Akumal, Coba and Sian Ka'an

Terrible vacation!

Out of a group of eleven (11), eight (8) of us got food poisoning! This spread out over a vacation package of 7 days. Needles to say that 3 days out each meant we didn't get to enjoy ourselves and our company the way we had intended to. Staff was very good in dealing with us and bringing meals and extra water to rooms, however, it doesn't excuse the fact we all got violently ill over the food. First time I've had to write such a review. Very unfortunate!

Fabulous Resort!

Absolutely beautiful resort.....beautifully landscaped, gorgeous beach, impeccable service, very, very clean. Quality entertainment provided nightly and the choice of a la carte restaurants is superb. Rooms are beautiful, spacious, clean. Staff is truly smazing, very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again! We would also highly recommend booking through Tripcentral.ca.......so easy and they took care of everything. We are very impressed!

Great relaxing vavation

Beautiful spot to relax and have fun. The Tulum section of the resort is very close to the beach - and the Tulum section of the beach is currently the best part of the Grand Bahia Príncipe Riviera Maya beach. Once the door to our room was fixed (you had to really push firmly to latch it), our room was lovely. He grounds wer beautiful. We preferred the smaller buffet restaurant, Tequila, over the larger buffet restaurant, Yucatan. Waiter Gabriel was lots of fun, and had some extra-special tequil [... read more]a to share. We also preferred the smaller pool near Tequila. The pool bar La Cangrejo, was our favourite, and bartender Antonio was excellent. We booked meals at three a la carte restaurants - Cozumel (Mexican), La Gran Tortuga (Brazilian),and Le Gourmet (French), which were all lovely. We also managed to get a fourth reservation, by popping into the reservation office in the afternoon, and pre-paying for two bottles of wine (not a problem for a group of 6) - we had a great meal at Don Pablo. If you want dancing and live music, there is a fun spot set up each night outside of the Coba lobby.

Was an ok resort

I was very disappointed by the beach. a lots of corals and tons of seaweeds. they are trying to keep up with it but the nature is stronger... to hear their little tractor all the time is not very relaxing. On my last day, Feb. 24 2018 room 1801. I left my Iphone charger on the table. The maid replace it with his old one,which was broken and left with mine. couldn't charge my phone for my trip back. Not too impressed

Grand Bahia Principe Greta Resort

This was our 4th visit to this resort, so we knew what to expect. The food is always good to very good in the buffet and even better in most (not all) ala carte restaurants. The house wine is sub par so if you want something good order a bottle off the wine list. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is friendly and helpful. We had very low shower pressure in our room and hit and miss hot water on a couple of days, but it wasnt too big a deal. My only disappointment this trip was the beach.  [... read more]It is all mother nature and out of the resorts control. The sea has eroded quite a bit of the sand in the Coba Akumel areas. We were in Tulum and there was a ton of seaweed. The resort works every day to remove it, but some times its a losing battle. All in all a great place to visit

Lovely resort

pros: lovely grounds, entertainment for everyone young and mature, cons: initial told of an upgrade to a sister hotel Sian Kaan, it turned out not to be, after asking for a quiet room we were put next to an equipment room that housed a air conditioner so we had to sleep with ear plugs, seaweed, i found the atmosphere/staff at Coba friendlier then Tulum

Good time at Grand Bahia.

Cleanliness - resort was very clean Food- good variety Pool - clean Hotel room - cleaned everyday. Friendly staff - very friendly, hard working, courteous and polite We didn't go to the beach so I can't comment.
