Great resort

clean,staff are fantastic, food is simple yet very good. the resort is spread over a large area with lots to see there is a public market located right beside also a medical clinic is located on the resort

Good resort, with some areas to improve

Overall, hotel Club Amigo Guardalavaca is good for 3 stars, they improving, I noticed more freshly squeezed juices, very nice, or wholewheat bread, which is also very good. As more people in Canada now try to eat healthy, nice to see that healthy attitude at the resort. Ocean is amazing, water is crystal clear, when no big waves. I love this long open walkway along the ocean and 2 hotels CA and Breezas. Even used a gym this time (cycling machine). By some reason scooters disappeared, very few [... read more] of them, and was presented a new rule – offer them with almost empty tank. Take scooter and then go search for a fuel? How crooked it is! This is a possibility for a staff to steal a gas leftovers from the scooters. Please do the effort, offer the scooters with a full tank of gas! Negative point is July and August is vacation time for Cubans. There were just too many of them. Have an impression that they allow more Cubans in a room than foreigners. When foreigners occupy 1-2 per room, Cubans come as 5-6 in a room, and that is not right. Thats why it feels overcrowded. To be honest, what is every tourist don’t like – is how some Cuban guests behave – noisy, trying to cut you off in a line everywhere. It is unpleasant and annoying. Staff should be trained to keep the line and to not support the Cubans cutting you off. Teach staff to do it. I support restricting people bringing their bags in cafeteria. People should not take the food out. Good move. Variety of the food is not big, but its Ok with me, as long as it is cooked well, and mostly it is. I would suggest to add more spices, sauces to the buffet, would be nice to see some jerk, masala (in liquid form). Thumbs up to animation team, they trying hard, they do good job. Also the concern is with new hotel building beside the Club Amigo - the beach is small, it will be crammed, they need to expand the beach, which can lead to very little space to the local public.

Lush & tropical

The grounds are beautiful, lush & tropical. We stayed in a ground level villa, with a patio looking out to the ocean. This section is much better than the hotel section. Its more quiet, spacious & closer to the beach by Brisas. We preferred this area of the beach, less busy than Amigos side. You can't use the chairs on this side though because they belong to Brisas. Its quite a large resort with several pools too. The rooms were ok, AC worked great. Staff was friendly & most spoke some English. [... read more] We tipped wait staff & house cleaning. They really appreciate it & deserve it. The Russians & Cubans don't tip unfortunately, thats what i observed. The buffet had plenty of food. Typical Cuban style, not a big variety. Cuba is not for foodies that expect amazing food. You can also dine in the restaurants. Dinner time needed a reservation. We mixed it up. El Benny was the restaurant we went to often. The water from the bar & restaurants are safe to drink. There are also 2 water fountains to refill your water bottles. 1 is in Jessica's patio in lobby area & 1 in the gym. Good idea to bring water bottles & mugs for refills. So much wasted plastic cups. I enjoyed my time at the resort, loved the beach. Great value for what i paid. I would definitely return for the right price.

Good as expected

The hotel in general was good just as expected. I felt special and especially enjoyed being invited to the lobster dinner as a returning guest. However, I was hoping if there are more benefits for returning guests. On the last day, I was planning on the late checkout. I thought the cost would depend on the number of rooms per hour as usual but people at the hotel counter said it was just changed last week to per person per hour. I wish I don't have to face this kind of situation next time. Overall, it was a good resort.

Home away from home

This was our 8th time to club amigo we love this resort it always makes us feel like we are coming back home the beaches are beautiful and the food is good this year I noticed they added a soft ice cream machine for the kids when the buffet is open. We stayed in the villa room these rooms seem to be a bit noisier than the bungalow rooms however they have a spectacular view of the ocean. There was not as many little things open as it is low season and some things are being fixed or freshened up [... read more] but there was always some place to eat and a lot to do. This resort is our favorite place to be when we are not at home. We always book through trip central with karol we look forward to our next trip to club amigo guardalavaca

Awesome reefs right on the beach

Had a great time on my 5th return visit to Club Amigo and I'll be back again next year. The food is on par for Cuba, rooms are nice the beach and the coral reef is spectacular. Spent 2-3 hours almost every day snorkeling with so many amazing fish!

Average resort very busy with cubans..

very busy resort,,beach area,,where cubans are allowed on beachs,,,you need to stay close to your chairs,,for if you leave they will take over,,,,lots of time we left beach for that reason,,,same food everyday,,,,nice beach,,water,,,,

Nice 3 star

We stayed in tropical sea view room in the main hotel. Our room was clean and everything worked well. The food at buffet was ok. We always found something we liked. Breakfast at El Benny restaurant every morning with bacon and eggs cooked to order. The public beach beside hotel was awesome with some great food for sale, about 5$ a plate. On the weekend the resort became very busy with local clientele which resulted in longer line ups and some running out of some food. Pools, mattresses and A la Cartes need improvement

1.The pools are nice, but require better cleaning and more often. 2.The foam party should be in a pool, not on the beach, it's not comfortable to dance in, especially on cool evenings, muddy and ruins your clothes. 3.It is almost impossible to get A la Cartes, every times I've been (4X) it's the same thing "we have nothing available", so you either take nothing or go to one you don't want and see that half the tables are empty. Great resort, that gets better with each year

Had one of best vacation here in April. Check in was a bit rough at first, as lots of Cuban families were checking in for weekend. But was worth the wait. Resort is HUGE, So you do have option of staying in the middle of action, or away from it. I Stayed in villas, and it was quiet & relaxing, far from all the noise, If you want action - stay at bungalow or hotel itself, as it is also close to beach party and Carnaval, where lot of locals (extremely friendly nice people) are. Mind you  [... read more]- this hotel is favoured by Russians from Russia, but they are mostly very nice families/couples. Stuff is very friendly, not hustler like in Varadero, drinks - as strong as you ask them to be. Bring little present to five out (especially to cleaning ladies) - and they will show their utmost appreciation. Food for me was ok (I'm not very picky, so always had something to eat. Just in case - bring your own bottle of ketchup ;) PLEASE, bring your own plastic/metal mug, as drinks are served in plastic cups, and there are too many of them being thrown out, polluting the ocean. There are 2 beaches - really small one with bar (in form of ship), with lots of shade (but need to take places early in the morning), and public, where lots of locals come to relax. Entertainment was very nice. Thought i missed most of it, but the Foam beach party and singing bands were EXTRA WONDERFUL. Right next to resort is Carnaval Guardalavaca - a little bar/shop open air plaza, that turns into huge disco on Fri and Sat. Had lots of fun. I really hope to return to resort if not in August, then at least in November!

Very comfortable, friendly resort

Overall a great stay. We were in a villa which is comfortable. Next time we’ll ask for an ocean view. Cuban food includes a lot of meat and fish although we were able to have salads too. The best meal is breakfasts which include personally made omelettes. The staff were friendly and attentive and the beach gorgeous. Would stay there again.

Hotel needs some work

We have been going here for years. We go in April because it's cheap and you get what you pay for then.The hotel itself is older and they are doing lots of repairs on certain parts of it. The dining areas are what you can expect in most of Cuba at a 3.5 star hotel. The food is same as anywhere else. The rooms are fairly nice and usually quite clean. Sometimes you may see an ant infestation but not too bad. Things that need to be done , or should be done are - They need bathroom at the Columbus b [... read more]each. I think it should be built in a way that you need a room key to access it, so it is only for hotel guests and then they should build a public bathroom somewhere close also. The hotel keeps changing managers for some reason and it seems they get rid of the good ones and keep the crappy ones.They are building two new bars this year. One in main lobby which they tore out and have done a bit to get it open again.I think they made it too big and lost a lot of seating. Then they are building a cocktail bar on fourth floor outside. Not sure if they are tearing out a wall and enlarging the space or if they are only having it big enough for a dozen people which would be foolish.This year we saw a lot of the locals at hotel (young kids) urinating in the fish pond near main lobby or on a rock just outside of the 24 hr bar. No one said anything to them. Parents just let them do it. I think the bartenders that saw them should speak up and tell the parents that it is not appropriate nor hygienic to do so.I like to go out on the deep sea boats fishing but after not being able to have a piece of my catch I don't think I will be booking anymore tours with them. Transat said they would look into it so will see if we go again next year . All in all for the price it is not so bad. We really like some of the people that work there and it is central to the families we help out so we go back.

Over all a great resort

We have been all over Cuba, this was our 7th trip to this beautiful island. So far this was our favorite resort. Food was better than expected, many pools to choose from and friendly staff. A very clean resort. I would say my only issue was all though the room we stayed in was nice, the beds were very uncomfortable with flat pillows. We were in the Tropical section overlooking the "party pool" and the ocean, there's a small section of beach and boulevard next to the resort that is public space,  [... read more]cool to visit and get pizza from for 5 pesos but I could have done without the loud bass booming every other night till 3am. Just wish I had noticed that info in another trip advisor report I would have booked accordingly. But hey! Live and learn. We would definitely return and maybe stay in the bungalow section since that's where we chose to hang out mostly anyways.

Beautiful Beahces

The beach and the view was spectacular- the food was ok once you found the right buffet to dine at, rooms were dated and the consistency of the hot water to cold water cold be better. The staff and service was great - it’s unfortunate that the pool bar and the snack bars close at 5pm - the only places to stay outside and receive that all inclusive is the lobby and the 24 place. I would pack a bit different dresser clothes are not needed.

Excellent resort

The hotel was clean. Staff and service was great. Food was good. Will definitely be going back. Great time just to short think 10 days or 14days would have been perfect. Beautiful ocean and views. One thing I do wish is that they made real pina coladas on resort

Atlantico: 3rd stay

Third time at this hotel. Awesome stay again. Return Guest Lobster dinner. 2 buffets, 4 pools, a la cartes and the beach is public which is awesome and beautiful. You can mingle with the locals and drink and eat (pay) at the beach bars. "flea market" beside the clinic and a couple of stores across the way. Different events every night The hotel is very big so, if you run into issues with anyone in your "party" you can easily find somewhere for some alone time.... haha there are standard ro [... read more]oms, tropical, bungalow and villas. It is best to book the standard room and then upgrade once you arrive, it is definitely cheaper to do it that way, unless you want to guarantee a specific room or want to be on the safe side The food at the buffet wasn't all that good but... it is buffet food and they can't please everyone. For the real Cuban food, step out of the hotel and as close as the beach you will find better food and not expensive at all. Excursions: i did the Catamaran and the Jeep tour. Catamaran was OK, the ride was good, snorkeling was great, beach was nice, food was pizza and spaghetti not what i expected... i expected Cuban food... the jeep through the "zoo" was ok, saw cows, a zebra and some antelope not so exciting. Probably wouldn't do that again unless i go with someone who wants to do it. Jeep Tour was fun! got to drive the Jeep and speed boat. We went to a farm, horse back riding, lunch (was good, had the fish & shrimp), and finally speed boating. this one i can do again for sure... I previously did the Dolphin tour I liked it, it was fun and is the best price you can get for swimming with the Dolphins... $79 ish CUC's and it includes lunch. Can't find a better price anywhere in the world. if this is something you are interested in then definitely do it in Cuba. I like this hotel very much, they are building a new one which should be ready in Nov 2019 but, we'll see. I am already making plans to go back with a friend. It seems every time i come back, someone wants to go with me. The thing i did not like at all was the single sup...it is unfair to charge singles more money for the same stay. it's almost like being charged a penalty b/c you are not "paired up" or "have no friends". I've been told that prices are based on room not occupancy however; that is not true b/c all prices are based on dbl occupancy, when you change to single it adds more money. So, you do pay more for being single which sucks b/c you could use that money to tip. But if you want to charge me $90-$200 extra, then don't expect any tips from me. Singles make less of a mess, use less electricity and water, tend to tip more b/c they are alone and b/c we are alone we would tend to do the excursions to meet people. Also, when singles come back from vacay, our friends are jealous so, we tend to come back with friends....which brings the hotel more business Groups (not all) tend to leave less or no tip b/c "it's not my turn", make more mess, drink more, cause a ruckus, use more electricity and water and are LOUD.... Not just this hotel but every hotel should re-think the single supp, the world is changing, not everyone has a family or a significant other or likes vacationing with anyone OR those who have significant others where they are travelling... something to consider hotel people....

No Frill Resort

Villas are nice but bars and cafeteria is less then acceptable. Most of my time there I was unable to get a simple dark rum also long lines to cafeteria on the weekend just to find there is no food available. On the weekend lots of local population vacations there and creates shortages on everything.

A Slice of Cuba

This was my 9th stay at Club Amigo. I return because of the Cuban friends I have made here and the general laid back atmosphere. I went a week later this time and it should be renamed Club Comrade due to the high number of Russian tourists. No real problems with them at all..they just looked glum all the time! The water and sand are another reason I return...the food and rooms are only 3 star but thats fine with me..I bring lots of my own food and a good pillow. Excellent resort

Grounds were kept very clean can see improvements in many places that needed up gradeing have been to this resort several times and will return food was good. Front desk needs to be more organized check out and in areas should be labeled.Arrivals and departures should be stagared .old reception area should also be used so there is less crouding

Fun place

The grounds are well kept. The staff are very friendly. Many rooms are in poor condition and smell moldy. Fantastic beach and nice ocean views. The entertainment could use an overhaul. See the same things on return visits. Food is edible but nothing fantastic. I come back because of the staff.
