Nice clean rooms. Great food selection at buffets. A la cart food was good but small portions. Lots of great beach area. Getting to and from rooms can be a bit confusing. Overall very happy with resort.

Great Resort
Akumal was a great resort, Stayed Nov 22-29, 2021. Food was good, drinks were good, lots of lounge chairs available. Beach was very clean no seaweed a bit rocky in places for swimming. Pools were always clean swim up bar was not open. Very long line ups for COVID test but we paid an extra 10.00 and had the lab techs come directly to our room worth the extra cost. Would return to this resort again. Only downside is the 2 hr bus ride from airport.

Awesome resort!
Great resort and lots of options. Love that Akumal let us visit all the other sister resorts nearby. Rooms were clean and the team even joined our double beds together and added a mattress so it felt like a king size bed in the end. Coffee shop was a favorite daily visit. Activities and staff were super fun. Shuttle service to room could be a wee bit better. We felt like we always missed the shuttle or never had luck getting it to our room, but the walk wasn't too far and we enjoyed walking so n[... read more]ot a big deal. Food was top notch and again great options. I like that it let you book online. PCR was the only item that could be better. Hotel booked us at 11am and seems like they booked everyone around that time and so the line up and process took 3+ hours altogether. If organized better, it could be a 15 min process. Definitely suggest a review to improve coordination as a fight broke out at the PCR station between travelers, probably because they were frustrated and wanted to go to the beach! All in all a great experience for us.

We Had a Great Time
I came here with my partner for a week and we had a fantastic time. All of the staff were incredibly friendly. Our room was clean and well air-conditioned, which was important because there were some really hot days during our stay. The buffets were awesome, as well as the a la carte restaurants. The buffet to the left of the adult pool had all our favouite foods. The shuttle service around the other parts of the resort was efficient and frequent. A couple of the restaurants and areas may still [... read more]be unavailable due to the recent hurricane, however that didn't really affect our enjoyment as there was plenty available. The beaches were very nice and well maintained. Seaweed wasn't an issue either. Overall, we had an awesome time and met some great people. We thank the staff for facilitating and participating in that!

Suffered Resort
Only Tulum and Akumal sites were stayed open with about less than 50% of occupancy. All levels of hotel staffs felt this difficulty time and provide extremely friendly services. The A La Carte restaurants are improved greatly comparing with many past visits in recent years. The Buffer is not consistent as usual with less choice (due the less visits?). A lot more natives stayed in resort for a short stay and Christmas dinner seems opened to public with many locals to fill in. However, the local [... read more]language speakers had advantages with the services in the food court as the servers in the kitchen area speaks little English. Much more drunks talked loud and played the music in the public areas through the mid of the night 1:30am to 5pm almost every night except the strong windy night. It was the biggest suffer for us despite we requested a quiet room. More young people played loud music with their own portable speaker in the quiet all adult area. There were no staffs ever interference with these activities. All COVID preventions were understandable and reasonable. The Akumal is remains as four-star resort.

A trip to remember!
We had an incredible time at this resort. The rooms were clean and the resort was beautiful. The resort was huge with breath taking beaches and many pools to chose from. We decided to golf a few days as well, which made it easy with the course only a short ride away. I would highly recommend this resort looking for a family/ couple getaway.

Amazing resort
The people were awesome, the beach was great and no complaints on the food. I would recommend this resort to anyoneâ¤ï¸ We were in The adults only section and was great. Anytime there was something needed it was looked after right away and you received a call within a short period of time the same day making sure things were satisfactory .

Wonderful Vacation!
We booked last minute and travelled as a couple Mar 4-11. This is a great resort! The food and service were great! Loved the tropical feel of this resort! Unfortunately the main lobby closed for renovations the day before we arrived so we used the Premier Lobby which was a great place to hangout in the evenings and dance to live music. The beach was long with some rocky areas good for relaxing by the ocean. There were numerous sandy protected beach areas great for swimming. The shuttles r[... read more]an constantly between sections and throughout the resorts to the rooms, so you never had to walk if you didn’t want to. There were plenty of warm pools with chairs and shade. We also had access to the Tulum, Coba and Sian Kaan sections. The Akumal section was quieter and had mostly adults. The Sian Kaan is adults only. The Tulum section seemed to have more families and younger adults and the Coba section had more families with a big separate water park area for kids. The buffet had lots of choice everyday. We ate at the a la cartes every night. Great food and drinks all round! Lots to see and do. The staff were all wonderful! We would definitely recommend this resort and will be returning!

Amazing family vacation
From start to finish everything was amazing! It was our 7th trip to this resort and they really brought it home this time. Ocean view room with great entertainment and games to play pool side. Every day there was food set up pool side, games for the kids and volleyball for my teenager. Restaurants were easy to book with Butler Darwin. He basically made our trip easy and care free to enjoy.
Excited for next year when we can return

Large resort......too large
The hotel in itself was very nice, the food was great, rooms were decent, however a bit older looking. We stayed in adult section bldg. 8300 in Akumal resort part. The adult portion was very quiet in the most part and the restaurant for the section was very nice.
Overall, the good/bad are as follows:
1. Staff are extremely friendly; maids, butlers, waiters etc. The front desk and customer service staff are TERRIBLE. They are rude, inflexible and do not know how to come across as friendly[... read more] or accommodating. They need customer service training badly.
2. As mentioned, the resort overall is beautiful; food was good , grounds kept well. Biggest issue we found was it was too big. Bahia resort in Akumal is made up of 4 large resorts plus private condo developments and golf course. There is no synergy at all between the resorts as you are allowed access everywhere and cannot tell which resort you are in at any time. Shuttles are required everywhere to be taken. It is confusing and difficult to get your bearings. Staff is confused as well.
3. Resort does not do a good job of putting out daily activities. We were looking at evening shows with a Mexican flavor; our resort Akumal had none, but found out on the last day that Coba resort had lovely courtyard entertainment every night. This was very poorly put forward to the guests and they are in dire need of a communications strategy for their guests.
4. Beaches on property were underwhelming. The pictures show them as beautiful, but when you arrive, you have large black balloons filled with sand in the water keeping crashing waves from coming ashore. Mostly rocky beach. This is not a natural sand beach. This part was very disappointing and feel cheated by website and trip central for recommending this property.
5. Lastly, we have travelled to many properties over the years and we felt Bahia was not amongst the best we have visited.

No better vacation than any other average 3.5 - 4 star resort
I would start out by saying that I have traveled extensively and have visited numerous all inclusive resorts, almost 50. The Grand Bahia Principe Akumal is part of 3 other resorts on the property, therefore it is huge, so be prepared to walk a lot or wait for the trolley. The staff who operate the trolley are good but they cannot be everywhere all the time.
Staff - Good and very prompt and polite as most Mexican people are. They are extremely hard working and legitimately kind. No servers ar[... read more]ound the pools which I found odd.
Grounds - large, beautiful, and well maintained. Akumal patrons were allowed access to all the other resorts, but it seemed so were the Tulum patrons. Regardless of this, the pool at the Akumal is designed to be quiet with no music and it is small and has very little seating. The Tulum has the best pool as I went to both Sian Kaan and the Coba. The buildings are a bit dated now as parts of the resort were closed for renovation. During my entire stay the Akumal Lobby was closed. Imagine the hub of the resort closed and I only found out a day prior to my departure. No, I would not have booked it knowing that. Be aware that many parts of this resort will be closed at different times over the next few months to a year. A little deceiving on their part.
Beach - is not very good for walking or swimming. It is rocky and there was hardly anyone in the water. One spot was okay to snorkel and fish watch, but overall not a great piece of the beach.
Rooms - what you would expect. large enough and nice enough but showing signs of age as is the balcony. I requested a specific building but of course I ended up with one of the worse buildings and rooms as I could not see anything from my balcony. I traveled alone and was not treated very well considering I paid $500 more as a single traveler. I should also mention that I was a repeat guest which meant nothing.
Restaurants - Buffet was ok and the a la cartes were a bit better. Not bad, not great, average I would say. Solo travelers get stuck in the corner every time unless you speak up. Second class citizens so to speak. Remember I paid more, but in there eyes they got less out of me and my room as dbl occupancy is preferred.Customer is always right remember. I know it is the management who tell the staff where to sit singles, but I did not like it as most wouldn't. I was not checked on as much either and I am a huge tipper to the point of ridiculous.
Bars - Well they did have some better liquor but I noticed that the drinks were light when you asked for them, so I had to ask for a double. Keep your eye on them they are obviously being told to be careful with the premium liquor. The sports bar was one of the best I have seen and it was a good environment especially with no lobby bar. All that is on however is soccer and I do not watch that game.
Transportation - on the way there, it was a large bus with a washroom which makes sense. On the way back they packed 12 adults into a van with no washroom for a 1.5 shuttle to the airport. Remember some drank too much the night before, others had too much heat, and others had food issues. You understand what I am saying I think.
Air transat flight was acceptable but is bare bones. Same overpriced food and of cafeteria quality. Check accuracy of baggage weights fyi. I have a serious airborne allergy that was to be reported to air transat via trip central, but for the second time in a row it wasn't so I had to do it myself and have people stare at me and groan. Not sure if it was Air Transat who screwed up or Trip Central but it is a serious matter. It should be the first announcement as well.
SO OVERALL JUST OK WITH MANY DISAPPOINTMENTS. MAYBE VISIT THIS RESORT IN A YEAR OR TWO WHEN RENOS ARE COMPLETE. OTHER ISSUES HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED BY AIR TRANSAT, TRIP CENTRAL AND GRAND BAHIA RESORT.

Very nice resort
Our trip started off a sour note, we had a single female friend travelling with us and had requested adjoining or rooms side by side.
They had my wife and I and our single female friend in different buildings. We complained to our check in person named Gala,
She got us in the same building but different floors( as good as it was going to be)
As for the resort, the restaurants and food was very good, the restaurant staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, butler service wa[... read more]s excellent. The pools and beach were very clean and not too crowded

Resort was excellent. Rooms were spacious and the maids did a great job keeping them clean. Grounds crew did an amazing job keeping everything looking beautiful. Staff were great, friendly and very attentive. Food at the buffets and a la carte restaurants was great, we were there for 10 days and never got tired of the food! I would definitely go back

Sprawling resort needs a better restaurant reservation system
My husband and I spent our Anniversary week at Luxury Bahia Akumal from February 23 to March 1, 2020. We booked this location because it offered adults only facilities, was expansive and it was right on the water. The beach and grounds were lovely and well kept. We stayed in an ocean front room in building 66 which the closest to the beach and the perfect location. The rooms had basic furnishings and amenities. Some aspects of the room showed wear (eg - there was rust in the bath around some of[... read more] the fixtures and the tie backs on the bed curtains were dirty). While I’d consider the grounds and common areas 4 stars, the rooms could only be considered 3. They have many restaurants from which to choose, which was another selling feature, but it’s almost impossible to get a reservation! It seems that you have to book prior to arrival in order to get seating. This was very disappointing. When we could get a reservation it was at 5:30 or 9:30 for dinner. Thankfully the buffets were very good with a lot of variety. The resort was full of Canadians and although they have a lovely sports bar, they couldn’t play the Leafs or Raptors games. I’ve been to other resorts in Mexico that had access to all the games. This was also disappointing. The alcohol was not top shelf and some options like Grand Marnier was an extra charge. I couldn’t recommend this resort to people who are accustomed to 4.5 to 5 star resorts as the rooms are basic and in poor repair and lack of restaurant choice. The beach and grounds are truly beautiful, but I would only book this resort again if it was a deep discount.

Akumal did not disappoint !!
Everything was perfect starting with our booking with Carole Williams from trip central who made it flawless for us , check in was less then 15 min. greeted with sparkling wine. This being our second time to Akumal we really enjoyed upgrading to the adults section where the rooms come with a huge whirlpool tub ,adults only infinity pool overseeing the ocean.
Beaches are absolutely amazing , the man made barriers made for calm waters no matter what the conditions were , snorkeling was an every d[... read more]ay excursion we didn't half to pay for as the fish are everywhere ( keep a piece of bread from the buffet the fish eat out of your hands )
They host shows every night which are top notch . We played tennis every morning and beach volley ball throughout the day.
Food from the buffet was good with a great variety , the A la cartes are second to none and plentiful as you have access to there 3 sister resorts . We were able to book 9 different A la cartes on our 10 day vacation ( Don Pablo restaurant at Tullum was buy fare the best )
We even spent a couple hours cooling off and had a couple drink at there casino while playing 3 card poker ( won $ 200 bucks lol )
There are to many perks to list but here are our top ones . 24 hour room service , free shuttles to anywhere of the 4 resorts every 10 min , 3 beach bars , beach alcohol servers ( no waiting in line ) adults only infinity pool with a private bar , adults only restaurants and Ala cartes .
The one thing i would change if i could would be the room temperature is not cool enough at night ( temps. are preset at 22 degrees )

Fantastic Resort
Very beautiful and clean resort. Having access to the 3 other resorts on the Bahia Principe grounds is a bonus. The only negative is that the resort does not allow the rooms to go lower that 22 degrees which was uncomfortable to sleep in.
