Viva Dominicus Palace by Wyndham: Second time back - great place

We liked this resort so much that we decided to visit again for New Year's week of Dec 26 to Jan 2. The plane landed in La Romana airport which is a small seasonal airport that operates few months in the winter season. It was very speedy passport control as Air Transat was the only plane there at the time. From airport to hotel it only took 20 min. Food was very good - lots of vegetarian choices, fish and amazing desserts. We tried 4 a la carte restaurants and enjoyed the atmosphere Also, beach is amazing with calm waters. Unlike Punta Canada, La Romana ocean is very calm and not too windy. The only negative aspect are front desk staff they are a bit rude but they get everything done. Overall, this is a good chain and we plan to visit their Freeport Bahamas location soon.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: NEVER AGAIN!

Over four decades and after visiting the Dominican Republic for at least 15 times, this particular "vacation" was the absolute worst my wife and I can remember. As elderly people with moderate habits, I was taken ill on our third day on site with severe diarrhea, had to consult the resort's resident doctor and spent -- besides US$330 -- the balance of our "vacation" taking anti-biotics, pills for fever and chills and pro-biotics. On the final night in the resort, my wife was taken ill by way o [... read more]f vomiting and diarrhea and travelled severely ill all the way back to Canada on an empty stomach since all she could consume without vomiting was water and pretzels. There is no question in our minds that the level of hygiene security in the kitchen and in the bars were lacking. NEVER AGAIN will we be staying at this or any other Bahia Principe resort. For that matter, I think we shall write off the DR as a destination.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Amazing Resort

We just returned from 10days in Paradise. The resort is amazing from The grounds , the food etc but The staff make the resort the best ever. The entertainment staff is #1 along with the bar staff, waiters, waitress, front desk etc etc We can't say enough words on how awesome everyone was... One of our Group has already booked to come back in Feb. We will all be back ?❤️

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Picture Perfect Place

Beautiful hotel with a layout that made everything so easy to navigate. Gardens were stunning and pools were pretty too. Beach was the best for hanging out and relaxing but also for a few fun beach activities. The resort made major efforts to ensure everyone was having a nice time including a team of entertainment youth who made the stay that much nicer with their easy going get involved with some fun approach.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: A Beautiful Resort

This resort exceeded our expectations in all respects. The grounds are perfectly kept and everything is very clean. The main areas for guests such as the lobby, buffet restaurants, bars and pools are very beautiful. It feels very luxurious and traditionally Caribbean with the use of high open ceilings, exposed rafters, metal grillwork, and exceptional marble flooring. The beach area is wonderful with adequate loungers, many mature palm trees for shade and waiter service. The water is cloudy and there are jellyfish. The pools make up for the poorer quality ocean swimming with their size, and easy availability. The animation team is the best I have encountered. The clientele were a variety of ages and all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would return.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: 4 hours check-in

After an hour drive from airport to the hotel they made us wait to check-in our room for 4 hours! it was awful! Whenever we asked the reception desk they would asked me if I need help as I was the client has jsut arrived and they telling over and over again “wait” and they go hiding into the reception rooms.. Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: OK RESORT

Overall was an ok vacation but pricey for what you get in my opinion. The food was only ok. Buffet was packed, line ups etc. Same food everyday. The low end liquor was horrible. Pop was flat, juice wasn’t juice was tang. Massive cockroaches in the room. And not sure if this was weather related but the beach water was brown. Couldn’t see the bottom of the ocean and I got stung by jellyfish ?. Very crowded at the resort. Over an hour drive from airport.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Horrible!

I really hate being negative but this was the most horrible all inclusive experience I’ve ever had. The buffet is not enclosed so the food goes bad really quick. But even made fresh it was the WORST food I’ve ever had. The only fruit to be seen is watermelon, pineapple and cantaloupe. The meat was more often than not raw. The rooms are poorly maintained. AC is lacking. Toilets don’t flush right. Door locks don’t work. Lights flicker everywhere. The walkways are all broken up. Impressi [... read more]ons of the staff are mixed. My Spanish is decent however most of the staff can’t speak any English. However the big problem is that they don’t appear to have been trained on how to do their job. Politely ask for anything and it’s a crapshoot if they get around to it. Sometime you get towels when they take the dirty ones and other times you don’t. Then there’s the general customer base. If you’re European then you may fit in. North Americans, not so much. My guess is 90%+ people are from Europe. Nobody said please or thank you. Treat the staff like garbage. Smoke everywhere including buffets the theatre. Urinate in the bushes. Not the crowd I’m used to.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Bad resort. I don't recommend!

We stayed at the BahiaPrincipe Grand la Romana resort in Dominican from June 7 to June 14 and it was a bad experience. Initially, we were upset that it was impossible to swim in the sea. There are a lot of wasps on the beach. There is almost no entertainment for children, only one small pool and a playground that was often closed. The staff barely speaks English. Our air conditioner broke on the first night, but it was fixed the next day. When my four-year-old son stepped on a snake, we wer [... read more]e shocked. It was a miracle she didn't bite him. My son somehow jumped back very quickly and we were lucky. When I tried to find out what kind of snake it was, whether it was poisonous or not, and whether there were many of them here, they ignored me with smiles. Near the pool, someone took one of our towels, and when I came to the reception desk about this, the woman standing there in a rude and dissatisfied manner said that it was our responsibility to take care of the towel and wanted us to pay for it. But in the end, she was very dissatisfied and gave us a new card. In the bars, the bartenders also spoke almost no English and always had dissatisfied faces. We often had to wait a long time for our drink or sometimes were simply ignored. The day before departure, we went to the reception to find out when they would come for us, but there they told us that they didn’t know anything and it was our concern and they told us to find out for ourselves. As a result, on the day of departure, in a panic, we began to look for someone to take us to the airport and were ready to take a taxi, but thanks to Belboy, thank you very much, we found our driver. We spent a lot of nerves. And the worst thing is that our children, 4 and 2 years old, contracted scabies there. We had to immediately rush to the hospital upon arriving home. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone and will not go there again.

We had a good experience in this hotel, great food and amazing staff. Everything about the hotel was exceptional. It was clean and excellent service. Food was good and great value for money and service was attentive and efficient. Negative: jellyfish in the beach

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Amazing adult resort

We spend a week at the Bahia Principe luxury Bougainville resort. Very nice well kept resort. Buffet food was 3 times a day unbelievable. Even my favourite bagels, cream cheese and lox. The a La carte restaurants are very good and the French restaurant is a big 10. We had lamb chops there, unbelievable. The room with a fully stock and refilled fridge was great. Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Blown away

This experience was unlike anything we have ever done together and we couldn't be happier about the experience we had. Food, entertainment, staff, rooms all amazing. 7 days was the perfect amount of time to settle into the resort and find everything we were looking for

The grounds are perfectly manicured and tended too. The architecture is beautiful and the buildings very well maintained. The pools are well divided and divided as quiet and party pool, which works really well according to your mood that day! Beware of losing your towel card as they will charge you 10$USD if you lose it, and if you would like to replace your towel... even if you forgot it at the pool the day before. The entertainment crew is fun and very active; kudos to them for being present  [... read more]from 10am to midnight! The beach is well maintained but not frequented by many people. The water is very calm as the resort is located within a bay and not directly on the ocean. The water appears to be somewhat "brackish" and not like the typical Punta Cana beachfront/ocean waters. The food is very good, we were pleased with the selection and variety.

HM Alma De Bayahibe Hotel: Relax resort

Good pkace to relax. No beach área. Buffet a lot of fry food. No too fresh. No to clean and rstaurant need fresh paint. No a/c in restaurants. Entertaiment was okay. Beach activities never on time. Drinks okay. No too friendky atmósfera.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Nice Resort but The Sea is dark

Nice resort, clean, good rooms, nice people’s but the BIG PROBLEM was the sea... very dirty, dark and jellyfish Because the river flows into the sea I can’t believe that ! We want enjoy the sea but we can’t!

Dreams Dominicus La Romana: Very good stay

Dreams Dominicus is very good vacation spot with crustal clear warm water and very nice amenities, buildings, and rooms. I have to say, the service was 5 stars. I have requested additional towels, I got them within 10 minutes (!) Gym is new, sparkly clean with nice equipment. Yoga teacher Casie made my days! But i [... read more]f you like to walk, it is not for you. The sea is shallow, but you can swim. An the water is so warm! The pools are nice and clean. The only thing I did not like very much becide of food was the crowded beach. The beach chairs in the Preffered section were placed so close to each other, you could not pass in between. So, people were lying too close to each other. Because of that I gave 4 stars to beach. It did not have very bad impact to our stay. We had very good vacation, thank you tripcantral!

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: More than expected

April 2024 for 10 days. We booked with Air Transat through tripcentral.ca (excellent service). 1h10 minutes from Punta Cana airport; sleepy driver, had to talk to him to wake him up. Upon arrival, we were immediately transferred to Bouganville. Great service, quick. We went to the buffet while waiting for our room to be ready (we were there at 1pm). We waited 50 minutes for our luggage once our room was ready. Room: spacious, clean, beds were very comfortable. Excellent service from all [... read more] maids. We couldn't have used the jacuzzi in the bathroom even if we wanted to as the drain plug was deficient. Notice that you may not discard the toilet paper in the toilet; you have to toss it in the bin. AC was a problem: you can't turn it off without turning the lights off. You have to pull out your card at the door to turn the power off. But we were reading and charging our phones during the night so AC was working all night long. We both ended up with a cold. Our room was close to the beach pool in building 53 but still very quiet. Buildings 52 and 53 are closer to the beach and beach pool. Buildings 50 and 51 are the closest but more expensive (view of the beach). Building 57 is closer to the quiet pool. Buffet: Jasmin restaurant (in the lobby) had all three meals, Las Dalias (at the quiet pool) had breakfast and Los Corrales (at the beach) had lunch. Food was excellent. They had themes on some nights (maybe every night?) like italian, mexican, mediterranean, etc. Most desserts were mediocre while ice cream was very good. Very good service. We tried the buffet at La Romana one morning (Bouganville clients have access to the whole resort) and it wasn't as fresh. Plus the employees weren't smiling much. Restaurants à la carte: we tried four of them, reserved through Bahia Principe app around 7 days in advance. 1. Don Pablo: most definitely the best of them all. Gourmet, gastronomic cuisine, very nice environment with quiet music. We went twice. The beef was not very tender but everthing else was excellent. 2. Rodizio: brazil-style restaurant at the beach (Los Corrales for lunch becomes Rodizio at night). Excellent service, especially from Omar who was singing and had a good sense of humor. Food was pretty good. We had a table by the beach, beautiful view. 3. Takara: asian cuisine. The environment was quite disappointing, nothing related to Asia. Banquettes were too low and too deep. Sushis were mediocre at best, everything else was easily forgettable. 4. El Pescador: mediterranean cuisine. This restaurant was on the other side next to La Romana lobby. They shared their entrance with Le Gourmet. Dimming lights would have improved the atmosphere; a little too bright. Food wasn't bad but the seafood casserole was the same broth as the fish soup. A béchamel would have been a better idea. We ended up eating the same meal twice as entrée and main dish. We might try Rodizio again, definitely Don Pablo, but we'd stick with the buffet the rest of the time. Bars. There are two bars in the lobby along with a coffe station. By the way, that coffee was very tasty: from dominican to italian cappuccino to mochaccino, all excellent beverages. A pool bar in each pool, one bar by the jacuzzis and another one on the beach. The pool bars had some issues with their mixers and couldn't make some of the drinks at time (like Coco Loco). Service was fast at all bars. Activities: Pools. There are two pools: one quiet and one more active where you will find the animation team. Plenty of room in both pools to swim or to relax and a pool bar. We spent more time with the animation, playing games, doing aquarobics or just watching the shows. Spa. We didn't go. They don't actually have a thermal circuit so it's mainly massages. Games. Two billiard tables in the lobby and one ping pong table at the beach. No charge. There is a new escape room: small but still fun. Night shows. We were pleasantly surprised with the evening activities in the lobby. Some good shows, silent disco, karaoke, game shows. We didn't expect much of anything. We did go to the theater at La Romana a couple nights, including the night of the dominican show. Well worth it. Animation team. They're really fun. Some of them can barely speak english but they're all charming, enthusiastic and funny. Big shutout to Mireisy (spelling?), Carlos, Smith, Mickey Mouse (aka Wellinton), Juan and the lovely Roxana ( y su hermana gemela Anaxor). Chairs: there are still some people who put their towels on sunbeds/chairs at 6am and go back to their room despite the rules but we would always find good chairs whether at the beach or either pool. Beach. Yup, the water is murky. We had no intention of swimming in it before buying some anti-jellyfish lotion. As it turned out, we spent quite some time in there. No jellyfish, no seaweed, cool salty water. Small waves, nothing like the ocean. It really looks like a lake. But the view, especially of sunsets, is beautiful. The beach itself is really nice; very inviting, lots of palm trees and sunshades, a volleyball court along with a space for petanque/bocce/horseshoes. By the way, no more access to the Beach Club (used to be that Bouganville clients could go to the Beach Club a little further on the beach and use their pools). Weather. It rained often. Would last 15 minutes and the sun would return. It was sunny and cloudy everyday, rainy at times 6-7 days out of ten. But it was so hot, we welcomed the clouds now and then. In conclusion, this is an outstanding resort. We paid a few hundreds more for the adult side (Bouganville) and it was worth every penny. Staff is very friendly, helpful, attentive, always smiling. Note that nobody harassed us to buy anything. Tours people walk on the beach with a sign, spa ladies asked us on the beach if we wanted a massage, and that's it. For a fraction of the price of some of the luxury resorts in DR, we have had an awesome time and intend to return soon. P.S.: We went to Saona with Dominican Attitude: best of times!

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Better than expected!

My overall experience was better than expected based on the negative reviews I read prior to my stay. Service: I would say that majority of the staff were quite friendly and attentive except for when we checked out very early in the morning….the service we experienced was way below par. The man serving us had no smile, no acknowledgment, no thank you for staying with Sunscape or even have a safe trip…..nothing, just a sour face! Rooms: It was a bit dated but it was clean and had everything w [... read more]e needed. Hotel: overall the Hotel was very nice and quite big. No elevators. Pool: Many pools including the VIP pool. My only negative is with people reserving loungers/huts by the pool/beach early in the morning when they are not physically present and that remains an issue. It is unfair to other guests who do not get the opportunity to have one. Beach: a bit rocky with a bit of seaweed however if you walk further down by the Hyatt towards Iberostar Hotel the ocean is awesome with no rocks. Entertainment: was better than expected! Every night there was some form of entertainment whether it was in the Theatre and/or “live’ music by the bar near the lobby. One night a week is a “white party” by the beach and that was a ton of fun. Also one day a week there is a “pool party” which is also very entertaining.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: BAHIA LUXURY

Since our last trip, 5 years ago, we found that there were areas that needed more love. We had mold spots on our ceiling and around the shower. Something we would not have seen before. Arrived to very noisy AC and fan that was not functionning properly. Fan was replaced immediately and attempt to fix the AC was also handled. We also have worries with staff entering our room for 2nd time in a day to make bed or not at all (only once). Dreams La Romana: Hilton La Romana Family Resort

A beautiful resort with a wonderful staff. Need more spaces for smokers and benches to sit on. A very friendly, hard working staff. The grounds were beautiful and the pools were lovely. I would go back.
