We stayed at this resort for a week at the end of March 2017. If you have small children I would suggest early check in if they offer it. Check in is 3pm or when they get to you. The hotel itself is nice. Close to the airport. Our room was near to the pool, entertainment area and front entrance.
The town of Sosua is right outside and about a 10min walk to the public beach. Vendors are all along this stretch and it's an incredible sight.
Our room was adequate and we got water and pop daily.[... read more] You cannot drink the tap water what so ever there. Also a small bottle of rum.
Housekeeping was very slow. Towels were removed early in the day and not restocked until around dinner time when the rooms were made up. Not once did we have a surprise animal made from towels on our beds. (grand daughter was very sad about this)
Food was more flavorful than Cuba. But at times over done. I would not suggest ordering cannelloni at the Italian a la carte. It was the frozen kind and not hot all the way through. There is 2 buffet restaurants. 3 a la carte choices. We were told the seafood one wasn't great but the Mexican was very good. There is no swim up bar at all which we kind of missed.
Entertainment staff was good and very active. People no where near as friendly as in Cuba or Jamaica. Front desk girl Hilary was pleasant to deal with as well as Transat rep Felix. AC died out to a very low setting and had maintenance in 2x but the issue wasn't fixed properly.
The Medical Center was awesome. (Grand daughter needed doctors care) The insurance we took was billed directly and we were not out of pocket for medications needed.
Grounds were kept nicely. 2 beach areas available. We had red flag most of the time due to the storm the week before. People hoard the pool loungers so it's hard to get one.
Price wise it was an OK amount. We would return to Cuba most likely before staying here again. Similar pricing. We found it to be quite Americanized and prices reflect this. Expensive to purchase items to bring home.
If you're not picky on when your room gets cleaned, having towels and good AC, then I would recommend this resort to you ...
It definitely isn't above a 3 star rating in our opinions..
Thanks

Amazing resort! Great value!
Food was good, resort was beautiful, and there was a lot of activities. Resort is steps away from a Canadian owned bar in town with very friendly staff. Watching the waves crash against reef was entertaining all week. The servers don't smile, but I wouldn't either if I made $20 a week. Would recommend this resort to couples, families, or anyone that is looking for great value. Front desk staff are rude, but your not there to speak to them, your there to enjoy yourself, so don't let them get to [... read more]you. **4.5stars**

Good for a 3 Star resort!
The room we were originally in, not good... no view, facing a wall. The manager
was nice enough to quickly fix the situation... which was a better room.
Thank You again! I would suggest if anyone gets this room that they get
a discount or a notice ahead of time what you are getting as not to be disappointed.
Very Busy hotel, was very pleased with the grounds which
was one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Casa Marina Reef Resort.
the ocean view of this place and the beach is def[... read more]initely worth it. To get a chair
pool side reviews were true got to hustle to get one of those
babies. lol, we made it work. Umbrellas have to pay $3 dollars to rent that's true.
The Staff at the resort were professional :) and friendly. The Animation staff were
a fun bunch, very pleasant and professional. The club on the resort
is abit small and they should play more Spanish music or Dominican beats as that's
why I was there to enjoy Dominican Republic to the fullest. To get a drink at the bars was pretty fast... which was impressive. washrooms where okay.
Beds where so comfortable. Food was good. I didn't want to come back home. I wanted
to stay in the Dominican.
Overall a Nice Vacation Spot!

You get what you pay for... in this case not a whole lot
The grounds are beautiful but this resort is quite run down. It lives up to the standard philosophy of the Caribbean where "if it's broken, don't fix it". Right across the resort there are things broken that should be fixed. For example, 4 of 6 water features of the main pool are broken. Not a big deal but shows how much the company actually cares.
Food: while good, it's the exact same daily with only very small amounts of authentic dominican food such as tostones, empanadas etc.
Entertai[... read more]nment: There are a few pool games and nightly shows. The nightly shows are not even a production crew but simply the animation staff attempting to dance around. They did a good job but overall the show is poor. Every other resort pays for entertainment. There is also not a single live band the entire week ANYWHERE on the resort. Very strange. The disco makes every effort to play music like we have back home. NEWS FLASH, no one pays to go to a latin country to hear music back home. The one night we badgered the dj into playing reggaeton and other latin music was the first night the club was packed and not empty at midnight.
Rooms: The first room we had had a view of exactly the back of the wall of another building. The entire view we could see was the very back of the wall, less than 10 feet outside our window. The tub also didn't drain. We finally were able to change rooms and got a beautiful room that over looked the pool. SAME PRICE what the hell!
Beach: due to weather there were only 2 days we could swim in the ocean. Not the fault of the resort at all. The jacuzzis are gorgeous. The beaches are the brown sand, not the nice white sand of the north or east side of the island. Nothing special here.
Long story short, while this resort is ok if you're paying maybe $750 but if you're paying $850 plus, I highly recommend going somewhere else. Punta cana is far nicer and staff FAR friendlier. Cuba is another amazing alternative and despite was people say, way better food and spectacular entertainment.
Overall the resort feels run down, half baked, and poor attempts to make it feel "like home" No one wants like home. We want real dominican republic and real people, real food.
This resort I want to like and has potential but unfortunately is a total waste of money and I wish I had my life back to just sit at home in my pajamas. :(

Nice Resort
We just came back from Casa Marina Reef. The property is beautiful and well kept. Walk ways are slat stone and uneven, so not great for wheel chairs or strollers. Towels are limited, and no wash clothes. Staff very friendly, but not a lot of staff in buffet restaurants. Food was good and plenty to choose from. In Buffets it was usually luke warm, but the Italian restaurant was really good and service was great. Pools and beach area are great but not a lot of pool chairs. Would go back, b[... read more]ut definitely a 31/2 plus.

Nice resort
This resort was a nice resort with beautiful grounds and very nice pools. The rooms need a major reno but are very clean. Entertainment very cheesy. Now the food, HORRIBLE, if the food was good this would be a great resort.

Beautiful setting for this resort
This resort is kept very clean and the grounds are absolutely beautiful.the whirlpools that are built into the lava rock overlooking the ocean are amazing.the rooms need some updates peeling paint and loose tiles in bathrooms.no drawers so no where to store your clothes except on the few hangers in the closet.there is no coffee makers in the room which is a drag but overall it is a good value for the price.beach is beautiful and the pools are nice too.one drawback is there is no where covered to[... read more] sit in the evenings with comfy chairs.only plastic pool chairs.the lobby area is very small so you cant sit there in the evenings.

Great Resort
While our stay at the Casa Marina Reef Resort, we had a very wonderful time. The resort took good care of us and our room was very clean and staff was always there to help if there was an issue. During our stay we were hoping for more activities and entertainment, the disco/club was nice but during the day there was really nothing to do. The shows during the night weren't the greatest. The food was very similar every night and not the greatest. Not the greatest location but the beach was nic[... read more]e and overall not that bad of a resort to stay at.

Great vacation regardless
The famous line "you get what you pay for" comes to mind when reviewing Casa Marina. We loved the property, the views especially as well as the overall cleanliness. The food is fairly good with a good variety. Wine with dinner is hard to find and has to be completely watered down! The staff can't compete with the genuine friendliness of Cuba and really should smile abit, not sure they like their tourists in Sosua. Unfortunately, they have a very small reception area so their are always lineups a[... read more]nd checking in is a long wait before you get to your rooms(in our case, 3 hours) The rooms are tired and many have broken tiles, tubs, locks and A/C. It really needs a complete overhaul and with such a gorgeous property overlooking the ocean, it would be worth it.
We are so over the whole issue of people saving beach chairs in the early morning and even stacking them on the decks of their rooms and holding chairs all day with their beach towels even when they leave for most of the day...Frustrating!!!! Also very noisy all night long!! but it was spring break so our mistake!

Third time at this resort and it doesn't disappoint
This resort gives you a bang for your buck. Beautiful grounds and pools. Food was quite good.
We were there from Feb 23rd - March 9th (late and into 10th). We are already planning on going
back again next year. It is a 3.5 star resort and I think that's mainly because the rooms are just a
little dated, but who stays in their rooms anyways. Beds were comfortable and showers had warm
to hot water.
I will post a review on Trip Advisor as well, just so management can see a few little thi[... read more]ngs, like putting
some WD-40 into the tracks of their sliding doors - they are so hard to pull open.
We went to Luigi's a la carte 3 times and really enjoyed it as well.
I rate this a 4.
Oh, and another good thing is that this hotel complex is only 15 mins from the airport and you can
also leave the resort and hit sort of downtown Sosua in 5 mins. to get wine, etc. (sorry, but the wine
down here is just so awful)

Casa Marina Delight
Casa Marina Resort is a pleasure to stay at! This was my fourth trip to this resort with family and friends (9) and we are planning a fifth. The room was always clean when we came back from our day out, water and pop was replenished daily. There is a different show nightly, some of which are quite entertaining! The staff is very friendly, buffets are plentiful, you will not go hungry. There are a few people I would especially like to mention---Luisa Beard who works the breakfast buffet near the[... read more] reception area, she always has a smile that just made my day even better. Luisa always provides exceptional service! Harold Vargas, luggage handler---he gets you to your room quickly so you can begin enjoying the resort almost from the minute you check in.
Outside of the lobby of the resort there are tour guides you can hire if you want a private or different tour from what the resort offers. For the last four years we have had the pleasure of having Pablo Luciano as our tour guide. Great experience every time!
I have recommended this resort to many people and will continue to do so. We are hoping to have a group of twenty for our next visit!
I almost forgot, pools and beach and cold pools are awesome!

Bad resort
This resort is definitely not a 4* by any means
My husband and I travel allot and like to explore different resorts. It was the same activities and music everyday!!! It was very boring
No swimup bar--you had to walk a ways to get to bar. My niece got out of the pool to go and get us a drink and got in trouble because she was wet walking into the snack bar area to get a drink?????
Rooms were very old. We had no lights except for the bathroom fir 3 days. I ask for help on 3 different occasio[... read more]ns but still no lights. I thought I'd look into myself and moved out the table the lamp was on and I went to take out the plug to change it to another plug in our room. I got an electric shock that knocked me on my butt. I walked down to the front desk and demanded this be fixed immediately. Oh they came alright and fixed it with scotch tape !!!!
Same desserts and food pretty much everyday. Our patio doors lock was broken. We paid for superior oceanview-//all we could see us trees not the ocean!!
At every bar you went there was one bartender. Huge lineups all the time. Totally sucked
The list goes on and on
We never complain about any of the other resorts we've been to but I had to complain about this one. Sorry

Average Resort
This hotel is dated however the rooms were clean. The bathrooms in the room were good there was water pressure and toilets worked well. The fridge was stocked daily. The pool was good the food was good there could have been more lounge chairs you just had to get them early. The downfall is the bars....they are too far away from everything, so if you wanted to get a drink you had a fair hike to get to the bar. The beach is crowed because its a very small beach. Overall it was great weather [... read more]and a very relaxing vacation.

Beautiful grounds
Loved the pools on the reef, hated that the beach was red flagged until the day before we left. The food was not very good (I had better in Cuba!) The room was basic, but the bed was comfy. Great location!

Very enjoyable stay
I found this hotel to be located adequately close to the airport approximately 15 minutes the grounds are quite well kept the pools are stellar the view of the ocean is quite breathtaking from many locations on the grounds the buffets are quite well done the staff on the morning Buffet up near the main desk still make me smile they had to be the most friendly people I met that I found all the stuff quite welcoming I was in one of the more recently renovated rooms, the air conditioner work well ,[... read more]the water worked good ,safe available, the bed was quite comfortable the pillows had a little bit to be desired they were big and there was no assortment of Sighs or densities I was on the ground floor I had a patio door walking right out to the pool area the locking mechanisms on most of the patio doors in the Dominican I have found to having not very good locking mechanisms either not locking or still being able to be opened from the outside when locked this hotel was no different now with that said they have Security the grounds 24 hours so the security of your patio door may not be as critical as at some other hotels. As in quite a few locations in the Dominican their pathways are rock with cement it looks very pretty it's not so much fun to walk on if you have any walking difficulties I imagine it would be difficult for a wheelchair to get around as well when it rains you must be very careful walking from one surface to another especially some of the tile that is used on the floors wickedly slippery extremely dangerous and how they can leave it like that I do not understand my suggestion would be simply 3M non-slip tape. I am not holding them to very high standards but I am holding them to Common Sense there is a stairwell that you must go under at the end of the hall outside of I believe 1117 the stairs would be very hard to move the path not as hard. I do not believe I would recommend this hotel for young children or for elderly however I am neither and I will probably go back because I did enjoy myself

Beautiful resort
The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The food was not so great but oh well. The pools on the reef were so much fun! Watching waves on the beach was great. It is not a place to go if you want beach time in the water. We were red flagged 5 out of 7 days.

Nice resort.
The hotel was very nice. Room was ok, could use updating but was kept clean. I went this past week of Feb 14th and it was very very busy. People were saving lounge chairs and not using them. Had to lay on the ground a few times. The beach was also very wavy and red flags up all week. A little dangerous to swim. The entertainment was also very late we thought. Started at 9:45 at night and went until 11pm most nights. Food was good, a good selection. Mostly all staff members were very nice and fri[... read more]endly. A la carte restaurants were amazing. Only real issue was the late entertainment times and not having enough chairs at any pools or the beach.

A VERY GOOD RESORT FOR THE MONEY
Stayed there Feb 3 -10, 2017. Had a very good time there, weather was perfect nice affordable resort.
Pro's - Transportation from the Airport was not a problem, Transat had a representative to direct you to the buses going to your resort. Check in was easy, they have an envelope with your name containing your entry card to the room, TV controller, and map of the resort, Beautiful sandy beach, wonderful water temperature, lots of room on the beach, sandy bottom in the ocean. Food was very [... read more]good at the buffet not large but plenty of food to choose from, a la carte Restaurants offered nice variety of food, the Italian Restaurant was excellent. Rooms were cleaned everyday with special attention to washing the floors. The pool and the area around were cleaned everyday. The landscaping was beautiful and well maintained. Plenty of alcoholic beverages to choose from. Staff were very friendly and accommodating when you needed any assistance.
Con's - Only 16 umbrellas at the Beach, considering the size of the Beach could have plenty more. Cost is $3.00 US a day, never ever paid for the use of umbrella's at any resort before. The bathrooms in the rooms need to be totally updated especially the taps have seen better days. The Gardenview Room is a view of a small strip of grass and the next building, suggestion is get a room facing the pool. The area around the pool could use more chairs by 9:30 am not a chair to be found ,all reserved by patrons.
In general the resort was a very pleasant experience would go back.
