Sonesta Maho Beach: Beautiful resort but disappointed with the service

The hotel is very beautiful property and clean and well kept. However, a couple of things could be improved. Speed of the elevator was extremely slow while checking in. My suggestion have bell boys that take the luggages to the rooms through the service elevator and avoid the massive line-ups that takes an hour to grab an elevator. As well, have more bartenders at the bars. More selections of food and be staffed properly to handle the amounts of guest you have at the hotel. As well the beach sit [... read more]uation is a pick pain for the week that I was there was impossible to get a free chair and umbrella. Have more or do something about people that reserve chairs and leaves for hours. There are a lot little things that management could do to improve everyone’s stay at the Sonesta.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing

Room was very nice, spacious&clean. The options for dining were good. The pool was very nice! Beach area beautiful! Lots of chairs and umbrellas for guests.Area was very clean.Latin night band playing at night was awesome!Staff was friendly! kidsfun room

Sonesta Maho Beach: Mixed Reviews Review

The Sonesta Maho Beach resort is beautiful and the beach, pool and of course the show with the planes landing just off the beach was pretty amazing. The only issues came from some of the work still being done to the resort as they come back from Hurricane Irma. We opted for a regular room without a view and that may have been a mistake. Outside of our room on the 6th floor were two extremely loud industrial air conditioners and a new sewage treatment plant. The balcony was rendered unusable  [... read more]by the loud noise and smell of sewage. I am not sure if this is a permanent situation for the hotel but it is something we were not warned about. The staff seemed over worked and were not very friendly, they do not have enough bar staff and it was not unusual for a 10 to 15 minute wait to get a beer. The food was delicious but it was almost impossible to get a booking at one of the two restaurants that take bookings which meant almost all of our meals were at the buffet which was good but pretty much the same night after night. We got what we thought was a really good deal on our trip so we were satisfied with there still being some inefficiencies, however, if these issues are not rectified it would not be worth what I would consider full price for this vacation.

The hotel grounds, the room and most of the staff were good. Need more food variety at the buffet, especially the fruits.The Chinese a 'la carte was terrible, long wait plus the food trays were left empty for a long time

very nice after first day we had to change rooms as our room was not so good we didnt have a balcony but kurt changed our room and after that we were fine the food was good but we had to eat outside a couple of times but other then that it was fine

Sonesta Maho Beach: Resort is good... understanding the circumstances

The grounds and maintenance staff were amazing. Cleaning staff were friendly and the rooms were spotless. Sonesta Maho was very clean. Resort still needs improvement with regards to the restaurants, still under construction. There were not many options available for food and limited coffee options. Overall great beach was great and clean. Resort was understaffed for the number of guests. I would not recommend until this resort is fully completed. Not worth it.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Not great.....

The hotel has done a good job of getting back up and running in such a short time. The grounds look nice and the public areas are kept clean and tidy. We found the food to be very good and we only ate at the buffet. They do a barbecue night on the beach on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Entertainment team did a great job putting on their shows at the casino. The free island bus tour was great. Tito is wonderfully entertaining and very knowledgeable about the island. Excursions were readily a [... read more]vailable, with a good selection of things to do. Unfortunately, Check in was the slowest we've ever experienced. Our flight arrived after in the afternoon and the rooms took another two hours to be ready. We had requested a king bed (we're both tall) and arrived to find that we were in a room with two doubles. Not the end of the world, but I went down to ask if we could change. I was told that they saw my request but since the hotel as full they weren't able to accommodate us. When we went to bed, we discovered that it was going to be very difficult to sleep as our room was outside of the sewage treatment, which has two large processing pumps with giant fans that were loud and our room smelled of sewage. After a bad first nights sleep, I again asked it we could be moved. At this point it's important to note that I wasn't looking for a free upgrade and would gladly have paid to move to a different room. Again, I was told the hotel was full. I believe hotels leave rooms free in case of emergencies (one of the other guests we spoke to were moved after a plumbing issue in their room) and feel that the hotel staff missed an opportunity to help us out which would have gone a long way to make our stay a better experience. We bought ear plugs at the pharmacy and made do. I wasn't willing to spend any more of my vacation time talking with people who clearly didn't want to help. Maid service kept taking our towels even though they were hung up with the intention of using them again and at one point we were left with only one towel and had to go find more. They didn't service our room on the Monday of our stay. The maid showed up at 8:30 pm very put out and asking if we requested service. We did not and I pointed out to her that it had not been done earlier. I've never posted a review before as we're pretty easy going when we travel and generally don't let much get to us but the room issue and their unwillingness to help were very off putting.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Beautifully Modernised.

The hotel renovation is still ongoing but does not affect the guests. Last time I visited this resort was in 2015 and the food was fantastic. The refit is amazing, however the food choice this time is the most restrictive I have ever come across. Salad choices were always a bowl of lettuce leaves, a plate of chopped tomatoes and a plate of sliced cucumber - the same every day. My other negative comment is lack of comfortable seating in the evening. There were sofas in the hotel lobby or two sofas at the rear of the resort by Ocean Point. Activities by the pool were good for the adults and the children's pool slides and club were also excellent. Rooms were excellent as was the bathroom and closets - all brand new.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great vacation - will be even better in a year!

I think this hotel is great, but it will definitely be better once renovations to it are complete. The beach is beautiful - get there early if you want an umbrella! Staff are friendly and helpful. The food variety is a bit lacking if you have any dietary restrictions (i.e. vegetarian), but you can always find something to eat. The pizza and pasta station are always a good fall-back if the buffet doesn't have anything for you. Sonesta Maho Beach: Great vacation!

I received an amazing deal on this vacation which finally allowed me to visit St. Martin. It’s beautiful, staff is friendly, food is delicious & I think in time the facilities will be back to 5 stars! They have done a great job rebuilding this resort. I will definitely be back.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Very Friendly Resort

We thought the room especially the bathroom were very nicely laid out great rain shower head with TONS of pressure and hot water and well accessorized. Though we had some issues with the lighting it was eventually dealt with. Top notch linens excellent maid service and a very well lite closet but could have used a few more hangers. Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing island and beautiful resort

Considering the hurricane damage that was done to this resort and island we cannot believe how well and how quickly they have rebuilt. Each day we were there we saw and felt the improvements. We would highly recommend this resort and destination!! Our room was great, the dining and food was excellent!

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great Holiday

The renovations to the rooms are wonderful. The food is great and there are a variety of choices to get different options. Once all the renovations are complete it should be close to perfect(elevators still to finish, some toilet issues, towel shortages).

Sonesta Maho Beach: Good trip

We stayed for a week and it turned out to be a good trip. Hotel is beautiful but obviously still under construction. Service was alright at times but usually you were waiting for about 30 minutes for a drink at the bar and most of the time the server was rude. Some were great and very happy to help. Food wasn’t bad but could improve. Not a whole lot of selection at buffet, not enough fruit and not enough food for young kids. Pool was great and beach was amazing!! Sonesta Maho Beach: Sonesta Maho, St-Maarten

Pros - New hotel Cons - Under construction, could have a 2nd pool, food was good but we expected higher end cuisine with the service to match. Summary - In general we were satisfied because of the great price we paid for the trip, St-Maarten has become our favourite destination because of the good food, filtered water that we can count on, the weather, the beaches and the Caribbean Sea. Sonesta Maho Beach: Ok still lots of work to get done !!

Hotel is newly renovated rooms are nice took 3 days to get our air conditioner working and another 3 days to get our shower to stop flooding over from the drain being clogged staff are the restaurant were slow need to ask multiple times for water /cutlery the bars need more bartenders!! The pool needs a good cleaning the coping around the pool is gross and ever day the film on the pool was hanging out in the corner s over all trip was ok still lots of work needs to be done hoping to visit again  [... read more]once they are fully functional

Sonesta Maho Beach: Rebuild is coming along

My husband and I were married at the Sonesta Maho 5 years ago. And it was amazing then. So it would be hard to compare. Overall this vacation was good. There are still small problems they need to resolve which is to be expected. The only hiccup we found was a bit of an ant problem in our room, which unfortunately took a little longer then it should have to be resolved. Sonesta Maho Beach: Great Mid Tier Resort

Sonesta Maho Beach Resort is an great mid-tier resort, for those who are looking for the luxury resort feel with butler service, room service, bathrobes, slippers, turn down service this is not the resort for you, that is offered at the Ocean Point Adulst Only Selection. The resort was reopend to Guest that fly book with Sunwing as the Tour Opeartor in Mid March. We stayed from April 25 - May 2. Currently as Sonesta Maho is in the final stages of completing the top floor rooms and the gard [... read more]en side balconies along with a few other back end areas, lobby cafe and new lobby bar (there is a lobby bar on site). They are opening the 3rd elevator for guests and will be opening the staff elevator soon. The resort is on the smaller side and no wait service on the beach and limited at the pool, but none of the bars are that far away so staying hydrated is not an issue. Rooms are spacious and everthing is brand new as was rebuilt due to being hit by a hurricaine in 2017. Dining - They have closing days/alterante days for Jings and Ascot pub and when the Beach BBQ is on the Buffet at Ocean Terrace and Plams Grill is closed. The Napoli pizza bar located on the Ocean Terrace Outside dining is still open during the BBQ as well as the Point, Jings or Ascot Pub. This is supposed to change once they have fully opened all rooms and common areas. Beach was amazing and water was the picture perfect turquoise that we always see on TV. The resort beach is connected to the public beach that is at the start of the airport runway so you can see all the planes land and take off. After awhile you do not notice the planes anymore coming and going. This resort will only get better everyday as we could see it with the additional beach and pool chairs arriving when we there. New Furniture for the Lobby Lounge areas. Staff was courteous and pleasant and if you needed assistance were able to help solve any issues you may have had with the resources they had available. Only negatives I have is that their should be a 24 hour Restaurant open for drinks and food as there are times in the late afternoon when everything is closed for food. I am hoping that does change when they are fully opeartional. I would go back again if the price is right. Tripcentral.ca start working on a new deal to send us back!

Sonesta Maho Beach: Breathtaking views

Overall, the resort was amazing! For the most part the staff were friendly and accommodating even though the speed of the service at the bars were fairly slow. With regards to cleanliness I have no complaints. The food overall was fantastic even though the selection was limited. The pizza was amazing!!! Getting a seat by the pool was a challenge at times; however, we had a large group and really only needed a couple of chairs because we were in the pool most of the time. Sonesta Maho Beach: Room for improvement

Our stay at the Sonesta Maho Resort was not 100% satisfactory. Although this resort is brand new, construction and work noise is still being done at the resort from 7:00am - 9:00pm which is not a problem if your not in your room. The walls are paper thin, we could hear the conversations from the room next to us. Not all lights in our room were in working order. The room overall was very nice. Loved the shower! The pool bar and beach bar staff need to be trained to acknowledge vacationers that have been waiting for drinks first before accommodating only the ones that yell out or wave money in order to be served before others that have already been waiting for awhile to be served. The wait time was ridiculous several times because of this to the point where you felt invisible! The kiosk to book restaurant reservations is a joke. We had booked a reservation at Jings one night to find out it was closed, so therefore went to to Ascots. The food there was terrible. Another night we had booked the Ocean Point. We had called the front desk to find out the dress code. The front desk had told us it was closed due to a wedding, we decided to go anyways to find out that we did have reservations and no wedding? The staff really have no clue what’s going on! Our meal at the point was very good. No complaints on the food at the buffet either. Elevator very slow and only one working the day of our departure. I’d give this resort another year before it’s truly a 4 star
