OK resort

The hotel was fresh and clean only being a year or two old. The restaurants were ok not a lot to choose from when they were open. 1steak house, a Buffett,Chinese, Mediterranean, Italian. The swim up bar was good and the bartenders were very interacting with the guests and very friendly ( once they saw me a drink or 2 were there laid in front of me) which made me very happy.👍 The pool was great and only having 2(main and a martini bar).Not a lot of daytime entertainment and not much music bei [... read more]ng played which we had to ask for. Not much night life we had to go to the other family location for nightlife. The ocean was soooo nice and warm. We went paddle boarding and boating. The house keepers were nice and friendly and kept our rooms neat and tidy. The fridge was restocked every second day with beer, water and pop.But our second last day they had a foam pool party which was a blast until someone got sick in it and we had to leave. But other than that it was a good trip. Thanks Jamaica for havin us and WILL definetly be returning to Jamaica again...😉👍Yah Mon!☀️⛱...ps the jerk hut on the beach was out of this world. I never ate so much jerk chicken in my life.

Very good resort

Overall, this turned out to be an enjoyable vacation. Initially our room view was terrible, looking onto the Riu Palace walls next door, but they changed our room to a courtyard view the next day. The hotel itself is new and extremely clean and very compact. Restaurant and bar staff are exceptionally accommodating and friendly. Food is as great in quality and variety as our last three visits to Riu Ocho Rios. Beach is OK, not great.

Not a 5 star

This was our first visit to Riu Reggae, but 4th stay at a Riu resort. It was a small quaint resort. Not much to do on the resort itself. However, 5min walk to the Montego Bay resort, which was lively. The jerk chicken hut by the beach had the best food!! The buffet lounge had a roach crawling on the wall. Our first excursion, the bus didn't arrive to take us there...so we booked and went the next day. Not much friendly conversation with bartenders, unless you were tipping. Great resort if you just want time alone with your partner.

Loved it!

Every aspect of the resort was excellent...the new (8 month old) structure as well as the grounds, pools and beech were beautiful and exceptionally clean. As it was the off season (July), we were given an upgraded room upon our arrival and the staff was very excited to announce this to us. The room had a garden and partial ocean view. The rooms are not huge but they are in perfect condition, immaculate and well appointed, with everything one needs...a king bed, balcony, sitting area by bed with  [... read more]table and 2 chairs, 4 bottles of liquor, beer, water, and pop replenished every 2 days. All staff members, at every level, were friendly and efficient. We ate at the 4 A La Carte restaurants every night, Italian, Steak House, Classic Cuisine, Asian and they all offered a good selection of entrees and the food was quite authentic and delicious. Not all the restaurants were open every night and even still there wasn't much of a wait, maybe 20 minutes maximum the one night at the fancier one (Classic/French cuisine). The breakfast buffet had an amazing selection. The open air dining for the buffet restaurant, over looking the pools and the ocean, was amazing, as was the jerk chicken hut open for lunch daily. The entertainment at night and by the pool were typical of tropical resorts but in Jamaica they host a Sunday night beech party which is unique ad fun. The music and vibe at the pool bars were upbeat. All in all, it was great and we would go again.

Lovely resort

Rui Reggae is clean, reasonably-sized and well laid out. You didn't have to walk miles to eat or return to your room. Food was good. Lots of variety. The beach is the best of the three Ruis in the row as vegetation was further out in the deeper water. I'd go back as long as i don't have to use Sunwing to get there.

Fun and modern!

The staff make this resort, Sharon at the pool bar is the best! Loved her! You can really tell they love the guests and do what they can to make sure everyone is having a great time. I wish there was more culture in the resort itself though just more Jamaica in the decor. The rooms were spacious and clean. I would recommend a courtyard or ocean view though. The crowd was mid 20's to 50's and wasn't a problem, only went to the Montego Bay resort once but heard decent things about the n [... read more]ight club there. The food was great and there were loads of options for everyone, the snack bar could have used some more healthy options though as all that was there were nachos, hot dogs and cheese sandwiches.

What an awesome resort

the hotel is brand new so everything is spotless. the pools are decent but shallow , like waist deep. the entertainment staff are fun . there is a night club near by that's on the family resort . the food was great especially the jek chicken hut. ii arrived Sunday may 28th and lucky me beach party night.the resort is adaults only so its a huge bonus if you want to be away from that. this is a great resort and well worth the trip.

Riu reggae

Just returned from a week at riu reggae the property is a newer property so it was very clean and more modern in appearance. Can't say enough about the very friendly staff, they were very helpful if needed as well. Throughly enjoyed the food and a very nice variety for everyone. There was no problem finding a beach lounger as there was plenty to go around. The beach was clean but small for walking. Other than that the vacation was a good one and I would recommend this hotel.

Great Resort, Problematic Vacation

The Riu Reggae was great. Although the first three days of our trip was a headache and problematic, the Riu Reggae was enjoyable. The Beach was clean, the resort was clean, the staff was friendly and very efficient. My parents are Jamaican Born so I was able to really compare the resort food with the food made from my parents and it was quote comparable. The only thing I would improve on is the entertainment as it was not entertaining at all in my opinion.

Just a fantastic place

We stayed in April at Riu Reggae and had great temperature the whole week .The staff are great people and make your stay even better .The rooms are nothing fancy but new ,kept clean ,spacious and had 4 bottles of liquor so no complains there and we had a garden view by the fence that turned out to be a great ocean view from the top floor and we saw lots of cruise ships go by at night .The grounds are also well kept with lots of fresh trees and plants but will be better when fully grown (still ne [... read more]w).And for the food well we had lobster ,shrimp, steak ,and lots of jerk chicken and all the salads you can imagine and all the desserts you could imagine,,,,really something for everybody...All the workers even the security where very friendly and wanted you to fell welcomed Thank you to all of you xo ...Don't miss the beach party on Sundays ,great time. And they do free tie die on the beach but you can give a donation ,well worth it . Oh and if you need transportation or private tours call Neville ..the best and very respectful...would definitely recommend Neville and the hotel to friends

Loved this resort!

This resort is close to the airport which is a bonus!!! It is very new & modern, nice and clean, the service was great, the food was great, everyone was friendly. I am so glad I chose this resort. I typically do not like going to the same resort but for this one I will be returning soon.

Riu Reggae was great!

We had a gardenview room. The room itself was updated and clean! The bed was king size and was very comfortable. We were on the second floor, the view from the balcony was not great but it didn't really matter cos when you think about it your not in the room for long The girls that clean the room did a great job!! The service in the restaurants was great! . I will definitely be going back when I return to Jamaica!

Riu Reggae

Very much enjoyed our holiday. It was our first visit to Jamaica. The staff at this resort stand out as exceptional. The service staff, the entertainment, the cleaning staff ( I have never experienced such immaculate pool side rest rooms) were what would make us return. The resort is attractive, though on the small side for what we are used to. For some this would be a plus. We really appreciate that you don't need to reserve for sit down restaurants!! Buffet had theme nights and was good on the occasions we ate there. One last note : we read reviews where people hated planes flying over- they do, however the short ride from the airport totally outweighs that for us!!

RIU REGGAE EXCELLENT RESORT

the hotel is "boutique" and modern. It is not the regular RIU with arches , character pieces and grandeur! However we got used to the modern boutique décor, and found it pleasing. As usual the accommodations, food etc. were up to RIU standards and very good. The "specialty" restaurants were easy to attend, very little if any line ups. The beach was nice but not exceptional.Although you could walk past the RIU Palace, and use the RIU Montego bay facilities and beach. Not the case, they are noticeable big time, and are passing over every 20 minutes sometimes in the day! A small price to pay for paradise! I strongly suggest NOT using the scheduled bus from the airport on arrival. It took almost an hour to leave the terminal, even though all were on board ! Get a cab for $10 and save some time. Its only a 7 minute drive ! Sunwing was the only issue we had. They rescheduled the return flight twice, from 2.55 pm to 9.35 pm to 10.35 pm. There was no apology at any time for the inconvenience. People were not impressed. This is typical Sunwing! Little to no customer service or care. However, notwithstanding Sunwing the holiday was great ! Highly recommend!

Riu Reggae

We stayed at the Riu Reggae in Montego Bay. This is a new hotel as of Nov, 2016. The good: The food was excellent! The staff were so friendly and very accommodating The entertainment was good for the most part The beach was lovely The bad: --We had a garden view room that had probably the worst view anyone could imagine! It was overlooking a jungle basically with a pile of brush thrown all over the ground and I think building supplies from when it was constructed. I guess we could [... read more] have complained but thought we aren't on the balcony very much during the week so we let it go. --We had very slow service at one of the food venues and one of our party ended up leaving before dessert was served. We were over 2 hours there and were watching guests that arrived after us being served before we were! --I badly bruised my toe on a raised grate on the bottom of the pool in front of the swim up bar. There are raised vents on the bottom here and there that you don't notice until you walk into one because you don't expect that at the bottom of a pool. I'm sure they have a reason for it but should have signs posted perhaps? I didn't notice any. Other than those few problems, we really thought the hotel was great. They kept us entertained in the bar, on the beach, around the pool and in the evening. The staff was very friendly which made the vacation very enjoyable!

Great resort!

We stayed at the Riu Reggae the first week of March. I am hard pressed to have anything negative to say about this resort. The food was great, staff were all very attentive and friendly and the rooms were very clean. The animation team goes out of their way to say 'good morning' to everyone each day. I thought this was a nice personal touch. I am a very picky eater and pretty particular about my room when I travel so to have no complaints is saying a lot. We did have a garden view room [... read more] but honestly had no issue with it. You don't go to Jamaica to spend time in your room. When we did use the balcony at the end of the day, it was relaxing to have a peaceful place to sit away from it all. We had a few windy days at the beginning of our trip and the balcony was sunny and protected from the wind. If you leaned over the railing you could even get a small glimpse of the water. I never felt unsafe, security was constantly walking by so no one was going to try and climb the fence. We did not try the gourmet restaurant as the menu did not appeal to us however the other restaurants were great and we never waited long, if at all to get in to them. I liked that you didn't have to wait in line for hours to make reservations like I have at other resorts. You could eat at the a la carte restaurants as frequently as you liked. There was always something going on during the day. This was the first time I was at a resort that had live music during the day and it was fun sitting by the pool and listening to the bands. I would definitely recommend this resort and would go back again.

Great Resort!

A lovely boutique style hotel. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The grounds were very well groomed and with time the greenery will be beautiful. A la carte restaurants(4) were excellent, particularly the Steak House and Doce Vita. Lots to do around the pools if you wanted activity.

Rui Reggae

Very clean new resorts. They work hard to keep all the eating areas clean and good food. Felt more catered to couples between 25 and 50. No nightlife at this particulater resort but offered close by. Overall a good trip but my husband and I like quieter resort so for us a little noisy. Ha. We're getting old.

Riu Reggae Review

We had a fantastic stay at the Riu Reggae! We were a little nervous after reading some of the other reviews but it was a great week! The food was 5 star and the hotel was immaculate in cleanliness. We were so impressed with just how clean the facilities were. The beach is small, but the pools are huge and very nice (2x swim up bars) We didn't like the line up's for dinner. However, the food was worth the wait in the end! Also we were sort of disappointed that they did not have pool side  [... read more]/ beach side drink service but again, it's a smaller resort and beach area so the drinks are only steps away. We noticed that there were not many "ocean view" rooms and those who had a garden or street view had sort of a nasty view. We didn't mind because we did not spend a lot of time in our room but if we were to go back, we'd opt for an ocean view. The room however was very nice and modern, comfortable bed and working AC.

Riu Reggae first Jamaica Trip

Hmm ok here go , traveled to a lot to other Caribbean Islands so I have a fairly good basis to make a unbiased review. Food - very good you will put some pounds on , something for everyone Staff- fantastic , great service , great attitude , never hustled for a tip Rooms- clean and modern well stocked with water, pop, beer and 4 -26ers of hard liquor all included Resort- clean, modern design , well laid out ,very little walking , two pools always found a lounge chair any time of day Beach- h [... read more]mm its only weak point when your used to beaches you can walk until you drop.Its small cramped and man made ,hemmed in by two man made rocky outcrops that there is no walking around possible ,hard core beach bumbs will be disappointed. Its on the airport flight path , good or bad depending if you like watching passenger jets flying by at a 1000 ft 20 times a day Excursions - make sure you read all the other reviews , some were disappointing and others were great so choose well, food -booze off resort is expensive , this is what I gathered from other guests that took some trips , as for me my Catamaran trip was canceled and refunded due to weather. Local Tourist Markets- thats a rough one , very very aggressive vendors , put your armour on and prepare to battle , don't pay asking price haggle it down.Learn to politely say NO Thankyou Buy your booze at the airport on the way out , huge duty free like the one in the Toronto Airport , good prices and huge selection For the Rasta in all of us well lets just say Bob Marley is alive and well there and drifts by in the wind occasionally LOL IMO good value , got one hell of a tan , put a few lbs on and met a lot of great people , adult only so not too many drunk ass punks thank god,I have been in some places on the reading week S--T Show
