Don’t waste your money

First off, Cuban people are really nice, the beach was really nice. As for the resort...filthy chairs in all dining areas, food is really bad, same options daily. Lineups at buffets are ridiculous as is waiting for clean cutlery, plates or service. Understaffed and overworked I think is the issue. Won’t return and do not recommend this resort. I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for but $1500.00 for this resort is a joke.

Amazing beaches but service was lacking

Beaches are amazing and rooms clean. Hotel how ever lacks upkeep. Chairs at buffet have cloth cushions which were full of stains. Food was blah with long lineups. Service was slow at the bars or non existent although there were a few employees that were excellent at there job.

Loved this resort!

The hotel was clean , beds were very comfortable, the only problem we had was with the toilet , it didn’t work One day but they fixed it while we were at the beach. The maids are great, room service refilled our fridge daily with water, pop and beer. The food was good , something for everyone one, the only thing was some chairs at the buffet were stained, and some of the beds in the pool area were stained as well. Beuatiful Resort

This is our 6th visit to Cuba, and the first time at the Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo. This is definitely our favourite resort. Very clean rooms and well manicured gardens. The layout of the property is also very appealing considering it is such a large property. Handicap room for my parents was perfectly situated to accommodate a short walk to the beach, pool or dining areas. Somewhat fell short but overall not bad

We travelled with a party of 13. We had heard great reviews from a couple of people. We had high hopes that this would be a great vacation. I’ll start with the pro’s. Pro’s: 1) grounds very well kept 2) rooms clean and spacious and updated. Showers are great! 2) beach is nice not great. Seaweed not cleaned up daily. Disgusting and dirty. Not sure I would recommend this resort. There is a lot of potential to make this a great resort but they have some things they need to work out.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo, Cuba

My husband and I went to the Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo, in Cuba, for one week. When you get there you are asked to make a deposit on your pool towels, which you will get back when you leave. We found the staff to be quite friendly. The resort and our room was kept tidy and clean. Toilet paper is hard to come by here, try not to use too much too fast. When our room towels were dirty we put them in a pile on the bathroom floor and they were replaced with new ones. The cleaning of the tables in between guests could have been better. There was also a buffet by the beach you could go to at lunch and a snack bar by the pool. The Pool area was nice and the chairs were quite comfy. At around 11:00 am there is a person on a microphone asking people to participate in games. This was ok, but it went on for most of the day, along with loud Cuban music. We thought; ok the music is loud but it would have been nice to hear a variety of different kinds of music. If there had been an area away from the main pools for the games and music, lying by the pools would have been more peaceful. The beach was gorgeous and quite shallow. Huge Pelicans hovered overhead diving for fish. The bartenders were friendly and a few were quite funny. In the evening there was different entertainment each night in the resort lobby which was quite good, piano playing, a saxophone and a fabulous singer. There was also a theatre which had different themed shows each night. We saw a show called “World on Dance” one evening and it was great! The weather was gorgeous, about 32 degrees everyday, so slap on the SPF lotion. Overall we would give this resort 3.5

Fantastic. Great Week. Loved it.

I was very impressed with this hotel. The staff were helpful and courteous. The grounds were well kept. The rooms were very clean. Food was good and I ate what I liked. Line-ups, but that o.k. the staff work very hard and can only try to keep up. Maybe add extra staff. I liked the decor and lobby along with the colors, but the cushions and pillows should be replaced with darker colors the stains are much more visible. The animators were just fantastic. I was told by my friend that the bathrooms near the pool were not too clean. Check-in and check-out was fast and efficient. We enjoyed our stay and would gladly go back.

Cant wait to go back

Hotel, grounds, and Beach was great. Drinks were plentiful and easy to find. The food was ok for a buffet. The fruits and seafood were fresh. I would go back, just to learn to kite-board. The wind is onshore or cross-shore and conditions are usually good.

Nice family resort

Place was nice. We always had a variety of food and did not miss out. However,not enough staff in buffet to supply all the guests. Always a line up morning,supper. One thing I would have to suggest is removing those disgusting place mats at the tables. The waiters only clean the tables and the mats are kept dirty. They look like they have never been washed. Mediocore resort

things were inconsistent, some morning coffee some mornings none. only blender at one of the bars, others were broken, some mornings mimosas some mornings none. beach was nice, pools nice but by the end of the week they were dirty. grounds were nice, rooms were nice, some days 2 beer left some days only 1. staff for the most part were very friendly. catarmarine excursion was disappointing, no snorkelling at the coral reef. only able to book 2a la cartes, indian was amazing, seafood not so [... read more] good. not sure if they were understaffed while we were there but lots of line ups for the buffet. Know someone that went in November and someone the end of January and had none of these problems

Very nice resort

Resort was fairly new and the rooms are very nice. Beach was amazing, I’m not a pool person but they seemed nice. Buffet was a little disappointing, long lines for fresh cooked items like pasta, omelets etc. Food was a fine better then the last time in Cuba.

Family resort.

We were received well on arrival and quickly settled into our room. The various amenities were located well within walking distance. We felt comfortable in room, well supplied with drinks but during buffet time we feel buffet pick up area was not effectively organized as lot of people had to wait long time to pick up their choices. Pool and beach area were well kept but need shower and toilet facilities near by for able, disable and small people. A Good Time but not as Expected

Pros & cons

I consider myself fairly low maintenance & reasonable, but there were many basic needs that weren’t met at this resort. Ex: we had to ask for toilet paper several times (3 of us and a toddler) never had towels, at times we were left with hand towels as full towels. Shower leaked on two sides every shower & our last 2 days we had freezing dribbles coming out. Food was quite bland which we expected, but by day 4 it was literally just rice, pasta, breads desserts and chunks of random meat. Gr [... read more]ounds were nice, walk to beach was a little far when you have children but the beach itself was amazing, lots of coverage if you want, plenty of chairs, it was quite windy (I’m assuming just the time of year). Bar is far from the beach, you could definitely finish your drink before even getting back to your spot. Many pools, beautifully kept, splash pad was actually about a foot of water so toddler couldn’t run free. Staff was friendly & love children.

Great resort , but understaffed

Great clean resort, excellent rooms, pools were great, beach is one of the nicest I’ve been to. Food was good for Cuba , however very hard to get a plate of food due to the poor layout of the buffet , buffet is far too small for the amount of guests.

Awesome Getaway!

We had a great time at the resort!! It was clean, friendly staff, beautiful views, nice rooms and decent food. The Indian Al A Carte was our favourite. International was closed when we were there. Italian was good but seafood we found disappointing. We visited both lobster shacks near by (extra $) and they were well worth it if you enjoy lobster. We can't wait to go back with our kids next time!

Beautiful resort but watch out for the food!

Well ill start with the good stuff, the resort was beautiful! The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and tidy. The beach was amazing! it had lots of chairs so you never had to wait for them they also had lots of kayaks and other water activities and you rarely had to wait for them! However, on the third day I got such bad food poisoning that after 14 hours I had to be taken to the doc on site to have IV fluids and a shot of gravol so that I could get some water in. I was then [... read more] stuck in my room for another day just trying to feel better and after that I still couldn't eat much or drink and had to stay in the shade. Now food poisoning happens and I was understanding but then the morning we were set to leave my mom because sick as well. We were supposed to get on the bus to go to the hotel at 6 but at 3 it was clear she wasn't able, we had the doc in and he gave the IV fluids and gravol as well but it didn't stop her sickness. the doc then tried to tell us she was fit to fly ( even though she as hardly able to walk and couldn't talk) so sunwing wasn't going to help us at all. In the end they had another doc come in, he said she was not fit to fly so we booked the hotel for another night, at our own expense of $320 pasos so roughly $500 Canadian. Even thought the hotel made us sick they would not help. They did make changes to reservations in order to give us our room so she didn't have to move while so sick. Sunwing on the other hand was not helpful at all, it took everything for them to cover my moms flight home, they would not cover mine saying that I didn't need to stay. My mom couldn't get out of bed to even get a glass of water so I could no leave! in the end due to the food poisioning we both had we left with an extra $2000 can in expenses. the hotel did nothing to help us and even getting extra water was a challenge! they wouldn't let us take plates of food back to the room when either of us was sick even thought we explained the other person was so sick. So in the end we had lots of expenses even thought the hotel made us sick and the airline was extremely unhelpful. Also after we finally were able to book a flight home the sunwing rep didn't tell anyone and they almost did not let us on the flight! over all it was a horrible experience, we came home more exhausted than we left and we spent 4 of the 7 day trip in the doc office and stuck in our rooms. Very happy to have made it home at last and I will not be returning. The Sunwing Rep will also be receiving a scathing review.

Wonderful time

Grounds clean,beautiful flowers,easy to get around and the grounds keepers are so nice a tip here and there goes a long way.Pools clean and big.Rooms cozy,ac worked great, maids where awesome. The beach long, white and beauitful. Beautiful view

The resort was very nice. The pools were kept nice and clean. The beach was by far the best part. The food was great. No complaints there. The staff was amazing. They really do go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They really enjoy children. A great resort for family's. The night entertainment was very good too. The a la cartes were great too.

Good and bad

First 20 hrs of our stay had no power which apparently was happening the week before. You would think they would tell you when you arrive. Not let you find out when you get to your room. Toilet wouldn’t flush and they couldn’t get anyone to look at it till the next day. Had no hot water for another day. Front desk and lobby bar workers where not friendly. They stopped filling buba mugs half way through week. Only at lobby bar. The food was not very good and lines moved very slow. I have never seen so many people complaining at the customer service desk before. On the good side the beach was beautiful. Pools and grounds where all nice. Beach bar was awesome to go to. People working there were awesome. The entertainment was very good. I would not recommend or go back to this resort
