Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Decent resort but not a 5*
Nice large hotel, with mixed guests UK,Canada, US and local.
Rooms: Large, comfy, AC worked well, good water pressure in shower!
Staff: Very friendly and helpful
Pools: great!
Beach: sucks/useless. Need more sand. too rocky, too small. not enough space to swim in ocean.
Food: On the positive, lots of local/Jamaican cuisine, which often is not common at resorts.
Otherwise the food was mediocre. Tried 3 of the specialized restaurants, staff was good food medium to poor. Ended up sticking w[... read more]ith the buffet.
Booze. all cheap local except at lobby bar. Often ran out of international/premium brands. No mint all week for Mojito.
Entertainment was good.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Until the Hurricane
Everything was pretty good until Hurricane Fiona.
The hotel must have overbooked because we got two double beds instead of the king bed we reserved online, not the end of the world, we pushed the beds together, but not what I paid for at a "luxury resort"
The Butler was amazing, Watson made our trip!!! Very helpful, checked in on us, we highly recommend Watson. Unfortunately he was off after the hurricane so we didn't get his help with some of the issues that came up.
The Front desk sta[... read more]ff were rude an unhelpful, with the exception of Jesus, everyone else passed everything off to someone else.
The food was delicious, the a la carte restaurants were great.
When the hurricane came, the communication was really bad, and when we tried to find out what was open etc, the concierge didn't want to help us, she just kept pointing at a piece of paper and staring at her computer.
We paid extra for the walk out pool, but after the hurricane the pump had broke so we went 3 days without a pool. Every other pool was up and running in 2 days, and we asked multiple people multiple times. Finally I went to ask for a new room and the front desk attendant told me he had been waiting for me to come to get a new room?!?!?! This is supposed to be a 5 star luxury resort, why am I chasing people down for the services I paid for?
We moved rooms and my husband left his charger in the old room, we went back with a hotel staff and the room had already been cleaned and the charger removed, but we were told we had to keep checking back to see if the cleaning attendant came back to work. We checked 3 times, she never returned and they never followed up, or took a note, nothing, it was our responsibility. Again, this is supposed to be a luxury resort.
The Air Canada rep Aldo didn't show up for the orientation meeting, and then I had to go back 4 times to find out when our transfer was leaving the last day. Apparently he's between 2 resorts, the Ambar and the Aquamarine, but I only saw him once at the Ambar. The front desk never knew when he was supposed to be there and its not posted anywhere. After the hurricane, he never checked in on us or anything. Didn't show up when the coach was leaving either.
I'm torn with my review because I think if the Hurricane didn't happen, we would a have been fine, and of course a Hurricane is no ones fault, and of course the workers at the resort had to go through the same hurricane, so I can totally understand some of the service issues, but this cannot be Bahia Principe's first Hurricane, and they clearly have no procedures in place for communication with guest during this type of event or after.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: A good resort
The language is a problem here many people that work therir dont understand english, the rooms had so much problems with pluming and roaches every where. The guest servise oslavdo was a great help he helped out alot and took care of the problems. The food is the same everyday so qfter day 3 we got tried of the food. The enterainment is a bit boring as they dont do much with the guest is only with the staff and tje shows are boring as its the same dances every night. The bars are great great servi[... read more]ce at the bars, and the beach is far from the resort and people selling on the beach charge you more then tje store. And last but not least the resort needs to upgrade and get elevators and the maids ho through your stuff so please lock up everyday.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Amazing resort. Will be returning.
Had a wonderful experience with every Staff member we incountered. We used the hotel for one day of excursions and a private driver for another day of excursions. Elevators were on and off. Lots of stairs to get to top floor. Al la carts were amazing. Buffets were amazing. Beach was beautiful. Upgraded to luxury day pass for the last 2 days. Their staff is miserable except at the al la carts. There's an extra flight of stairs to climb if elevators aren't working. Drinks are very light. Pools are[... read more] shady. Very quiet. More for the older generation. God forbid you smoke a doobie on luxury side lol. The beach is small af. Their buffet sucked. No outdoor buffet there so people who have rooms there have to walk to grand side. Grand side entertainment is better. The entertainment crew was absolutely amazing. Particularly Tiffany and tt and kedar. Denzel at the pool bar grand side is amazing. Fabian is the best bellhop. I got stung by a bee and. I'm allergic. He turned a golf cart into an ambulance to bring me to the nurse. Had a wonderful experience with her and she took good care of me. Ended up not having to go to the hospital thank God. Overall good experience. Stay on the grand side not luxury. Our view on the grand side was beautiful. Block 11.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: NOT a 5 star resort!!
Totally ridiculous wait to check in in a HOT and festering lobby with no AC. No one offered even a cold/refreshing drink on arrival! After standing in line for long time, I a, 78 year old senior, had to go myself to the lobby bar to get refreshment. Not acceptable for an acclaimed 5 star resort.
The mini fridge was not restocked daily as it should be. I had to go out and get my own drinks. The shuttle was not at the stop near my room. Long walk to buffet every day, three times a day!
The wors[... read more]t food I have had at any resort I have stayed at, including 4 and 4.5 resorts. There was no variety of food, from day to day. The same basic food was offered day after day. My stay was for two weeks and I got sick and tired of the same food every day. Yeas the variety consisted of a few variations to the basic chicken and meat dished, but basically a repeat of the same dishes for lunch and dinner. Once something finished, it was hard to find it replenished. That goes for the fresh fruits also! I am not a pork/bacon eater. The grill used to prepare meats is one big surface where all meats are grilled together, including pork with the the fish, chicken and beef!! The mixing of pork with the other meats, renders the other meats inedible for me. The service was totally unacceptable! The salt dispensers did not dispense any salt. One night there was no black pepper to be had, according to our server. Many days there was no Splenda!! Asked for Tabasco and was told they didn't have any, when every morning at the entrance, cocktail was "Bloody Mary" and Tabasco was there!! Most days I had to reject the coffee, because it was COLD! I rejected 5 cups, one day, before I was provided with hot coffee. At the bars there were days when there was no Tequila and I was told the resort had none anywhere. Days went by without mango juice anywhere! This is not a 5 star resort by any set of standards, I have been to 4 star resorts better than this. Absolutely and totally disappointed, I will never go to any Bahia resort again!!
Went to a couple of entertainments and found them lacking in every respect! The quality of the entertainment was nothing that would induce me to sit in a hot outdoor arena. The overhead fans provided no air and no relief! I stayed for ten minutes and left. Totally ridiculous. Even 4 star resorts arenas are indoors and air conditioned!!!
The Fridge in my room did not work properly. I am Diabetic and need to use insulin to control my sugar levels. I need to store my insulin supply in the fridge. The first day I complained about the fridge. No one came to do anything about it. I had to go to the lobby and request they store mt Insulin in the Lobby fridge, until my room fridge was fixed, Long story short, it took me three days to get a working fridge in my room. Totally unacceptable. There is no coffee shop at this resort, even though they advertise it as a 5 star! There is a coffee dispensing machine in the lobby which works sometimes and doesn't at all times. Besides, it is available from 7 am to 6 pm only!! If you want coffee after 6 pm, you are s... out of luck!! There is a sister resort next to Aquamarine balled the Ambar. It has a nice coffee shop, but we were not allowed to go there!! Totally ridiculous and unacceptable for a so called 5 star resort!!!!
You have a long way to go in terms of facilities and service to claim this as a 5 star resort!!! Either improve it or take the 5 star rating away and at best, call it 4 star so people don't get misled and ripped off!!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: BP Sian Ka'an de-stressing
It has been 3 years since our last visit to Sian Ka'an due to covid. Our return in early September was met with all the de-stressing measures still in place. Very little has changed. The staff are key to this and any hotel vacation. From the front desk check-in, to buffet servers, to cleaning staff, to beach servers, to entertainment team, to shuttle drivers and to a la carte services; everything is running smoothly as it was before the pandemic. Everyone has there own expectations of 5 star an[... read more]d they vary for each price point one is willing to pay out. Our rating is how did our overall vacation meet our pre vacation needs, and Sian Ka'an does this very well for us. Were the minor issues taken care of, did it matter that the furnishings in the room are not ultra modern - to us these could be bonuses but not prerequisites to enjoying our vacation time. For value in a Mexican AI, Sian Kaan is still hard to beat. Yes Grand Velas, Secrets, Excellence have better this & that, but you pay dearly for it. I will take my 2nd or third vacation for the same money.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Well travelled Prior to 2017. First trip since Pandemic
The resort was kept clean and maintained. The gardeners always working, staff always clearing dishes.
There were no towel games at this resort. get your towel cards and then exchange towels as needed.
We did not encounter issues with acquiring lounge chairs - but we also did alot of private excursions off resort.
Staff were friendly and helpful with our off resort access and re-entries.
We really enjoyed the Mediterranean Restaurant. The guy running the show there was accommodating and kep[... read more]t his staff organized and like a little machine. Food was tremendous at this restaurant. Both my boyfriend and I really enjoyed the food at this a la carte.
Staff are very cordial, helpful and not rude throughout the resort.
We didn't really use Butler service.
We were originally assigned the wrong room, that got corrected on the first day.
We asked for extra towels etc and they were provided with no issue.
room service portions are small so make sure you order accordingly.
The resort has a good layout and is easy to traverse.
We did not attend evening entertainment.
beach is small - also went to the Grand side beach and it was not impressive - so we stayed on our side.
The food is decent. we found that the Jazmin buffet was much better than the buffet by the beach for selection.
We are not pool people - so I have no comment on the pool - other than they seem big and people seemed to enjoy them.
Its about an hour commute to the airport
Issues with the resort
booking a la cartes were not always available. The Tapanyaki restaurant is not open every night and our vacay was only from Fri to Tues - so we did not have an opportunity to book. My boyfriend is Brazilian and we did the Brazilian buffet. We expected it to not be authentic Brazilian. But their salads side bar didn't even have rice or beans, but they did have Greek salad? The meat did not really come to the table very often. best to expect to go to this restaurant for an evening dinner out - but to also hit the buffet the same night or order room service.
Drinks are terribly slow anywhere you go for buffet or restaurants - so order them as soon as you arrive or you might get them as you are leaving.
Our ceiling in our room leaked (room 25718) we didn't complain about it.
to sign out snorkel gear - you have to walk to the grand beach side .... $50 USD CASH only per person and that is just snorkel and mask - no fins. AND you can ONLY sign them out at 9:30am and 1:30pm. Best just to bring your own and save the hassle.
So, no major complaints; just some silly stuff.

Very clean resort including food services (buffet, a la carte dining, and bars), rooms, and common areas. Staff was always helpful, spoke good english and knew what they were doing. Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Nice resort
Everything was fine, except the waiting line for the buffet. Hotel was crowded and waiting in the line for a table when is hot outside was unpleasant. This was the main negative aspect. Room and the beach were good. No seaweed, the shore was clean and the sea clear enough. Nice beach in general! Activities and night entertainment were present like in the old times, before 2020.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Nice Family Getaway
The resort is a beautiful property about an hour away from the airport, so brace yourself for the ride. The pool and beach were amazing and beautiful. Property is clean and well maintained. Friendly staff. I was glad to see the hotel being painted during my stay. Would recommend upgrading the bathrooms. Food was good, enough variety for everyone. Didn’t notice any COVID restrictions, however, hand hygiene required before going into the main dining room and restaurants.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: You don’t even get what you paid for - you get less
Overall the hotel/resort is huge. Lots of walking to get from venue to venue. Walk to pool is reasonable however to restaurants and other locations it takes effort and time. Overall grounds m, pool and beach and the hotel common areas are very well kept. The rooms are dated and lean towards run down. The bathrooms were clean and the modern part of the room. Showers hot and powerful. In room service was poor. Buffet is average and ran out of food all the time. Restaurant booking is a pain if your[... read more] can even book. Food in Alacart is better than average but slow. Service at bar is hit and miss. Ran out of beverages , limited premium and many didn’t know drink variation and didn’t want to spend anytime figuring it out. Overall service was poor. There is a don’t care attitude that is all around. There were a few employees that went the extra mile to put a smile on your face but for everyone that did 4 others would take that smile away quickly. I would not recommend this resort. Find another option. Don’t go based on price and don’t waste money on upgrading. If you do go you’ve been warned. Expect to get the bare minimum. If you like pools and an ok beach and sometimes service it’s the place for you.
I was expecting more…it was average and looked like the Coba and Tulum resorts which were supposed to be a step below the Akimal and Sian Kaan resorts which were all on the same property.
Buffet meals were average at best and the ala carte dinners were better. Our AC wasn’t that great and apparently that is how it is in the buildings.
We stayed in the all adults section and the concierge service was good. The staff were all helpful, nice and generally amazing overall. That was proba[... read more]bly the best part of the trip.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Yes
I was very disappointed because I book through a travel agent. He booked for a double bed and when we arrived Daneka the receptionist at the front said that she is seeing a single bed, we had to pay the $7.00 per day for 7 days total of $49.When I talk with my agent he was very upset that we paid because clearly on your website it said double bed, that left a bad taste with us
