Excellence Playa Mujeres: Beautiful Resort!!!

Great vacation over New Years!! Excellent food and service!!! A big thank you to the ladies at the buffet that seated us and knew us by name and all the servers in the restaurant that took excellent care of us and my daughters who were vegans and catered to their likes!! I'd go back for sure and am looking forward to it!!

Hidden Beach Au Naturel Resort: Hidden just doesn't refer to the beach!

Hidden beach is a nice little resort! and advertises that it's not a lifestyle resort! But it is, it's just hidden!! Swingers are in full swing looking for action. Probably won't go back, not because of that but of the fact the beach isn't great , and it's so small

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Not an all inclusive fan but can't wait to go back to Barcelo Playa del Carmen

Beautiful and extremely well maintained grounds. Staff was outstanding. Beautiful beach with privacy and activities to cater to everyone's needs. The food was outstanding! !! We are gourmet cooks and braced ourselves for heat lamps and dried out food. The expectation was ever so greatly exceeded so very favorably. Freshly grilled fish, lobster tails, steaks on an on....

Grand Sunset Princess: Sunset and RIVIERA princess resort.

Please let it be known that this hotel is humangus. It is not suitable for people who have difficulty walking. I got lost few times and because I had difficulty mobilizing I became very unhappy and distressed until I moved to a room closer to the main lobby. Also we discovered other accomodations that exist for disabled people that we were not told about it by the travel agency. There exist suites that open up to a swimming pool from your suit thru few steps from the balcony .I wish somebody [... read more] told us about it before. Catalonia Yucatan: Nice place!

The grounds were immaculate and well maintained. Our room was large, clean and the balcony was fairly private. The resort had many amenities which were included in the price (kayaking, snorkelling, bicycling). The food was excellent, well presented and fresh. The resort is a ten minute walk to a marina where dolphins and manatees are performing. Excellent value and beautiful scenery.

Occidental Cozumel: Good Holiday!

Grounds were well taken care of and staff were very accommodating to our needs. Food became repetitive by the end of our stay but still enjoyed it for the most part. Room request was granted which made us all very happy! Could have had more activities to get the teenagers together but not having that ensured more time spent together as a family. Perhaps an option to pay a premium rate for the first club privileges would be a nice option instep of having to buy into that as vacations for us a [... read more]re few and far between.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Great resort!

Had superior room....it was big but stark. It was near the a la carte restaurant that also served brekky and lunch. Location of the room was great....yes some stairs to climb up but much needed "exercise" after all the food! I personally LOVED the food....Mexican food at every meal, no shortage of guack! El Dorado Royale: Meals a royal pain!

Though the hotel and food were very good, meals were poorly managed during a peak time when hotel was full. All meals were a la carte, no buffet option. We arrived and were told all the reservations were booked including New Years! The whole reason for our trip! We ended up waiting for a table at every meal. Up to 2 hours! When we complained, management gave us reservations for New Years but when we arrived we were turned away with the restaurant saying they don't take reservations. Grand Palladium Riviera Resort And Spa: Great family vacation!

I stayed at the Grand Palladium Riviera over Christmas 2016 with my husband, 15-month old son, and my extended family (mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews aged 3 and 5). The vacation and the resort were wonderful. Not 100% perfect, but there were far more pros than cons. Food. Overall, the food was fabulous. We generally ate at the Riviera or Colonial buffets, which I believe were identical. The selection of food was vast, which was very helpful for young kids as there was alwa [... read more]ys something everyone liked. I normally found too much I liked! My only complaint with the buffets was the length of time it often took to get anyone to bring a highchair, and we often had to ask multiple people before a high chair would be brought over to our table. We tried 3 a la carte restaurants, and the beach restaurant (rice and fish) and the thai restaurant were both fantastic, although service at the beach restaurant was very, very slow to start. The rib restaurant was not up to par and I enjoyed the food at the buffets much more than the meal I had at the restaurant. I drank the house red wine and it was drinkable, except for some reason in the hotel lobbies they always served it ice cold which made it unbearable. Not sure why they do this when it is a normal temperature when served elsewhere. Child care. The baby club was wonderful. I took my son there for 1 to 2 hours at a time so that we could truly relax for some time each day. The staff were very nice, especially after they got to know him, and there were lots of toys to keep him busy. We also hired babysitters for 2 evenings so we could have a later dinner and not worry about our son getting tired and cranky and throwing his food on the floor. The babysitters were very sweet and we came home to our son sleeping peacefully in the pack-and-play provided by the resort each time. $10 US per hour was worth it for us. Pools, beach, amenities. Good! I knew the resort was not new and that everything would not be perfect (4.5 to 5 star Mexico standards are not like Canadian standards), but overall it was very clean and well maintained. The pools were large and we were generally able to find chairs at the pools and beach without too much difficulty. The beach was beautiful and the water is turquoise. The only complaint I have is that there are more rocks than I would like. Ouch! Distance. The one big, overriding complaint I have is the distances and the lack of consistent / frequent trolley service to and from our room. We stayed in the Riviera side knowing it was not ideal, but the time it took to get to the baby club and surrounding areas really detracted from our vacation. We almost always had to walk because there were never any trolleys around when we needed them, and it took a very long time because of kids and a stroller, plus were were always hauling our stroller up the stairs to cross the canals. I do actually love walking and love the "forced" exercise, but with kids we really found it a huge time killer when we just wanted to get where we were going and play, swim, and relax! Staff. 70% great / 30% indifferent. Weather. WONDERFUL. Rooms. Although we did not have a good view, the room was larger than expected which was nice. A very clean, perfect condition and nicely made up Graco Pack n Play was provided for my son to sleep in. The housekeeping was great and I love having coffee in the room each morning, so no complaints there at all.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Great resort with amazing grounds

The entrance area and view are stunning! The tile work at the front desk is incredible, and the service was friendly, fast and efficient. Our room had been redone and was very clean, fresh, comfortable (great bedding), had everything we required (minibar, safe, toiletries, etc.) and everything operated perfectly. We enjoyed the grounds and wildlife immensely. This was our sixth stay in the Mayan Riviera, and the first time we've experienced deers and monkeys on the grounds of our resort. Th [... read more]e food was good and the service in the buffet, Paco's Taco's and the oriental a la carte was excellent. Great snorkelling at the beach, and we enjoyed the adult and the quiet pools. The location next to Xcaret Ecopark and so close to Playa del Carmen was terrific. We spent a day at Xcaret and we will definitely return to this resort because of both our experience at this resort and because we want to spend more time at the park. Thank you!

Secrets Vallarta Bay: Staff as Warm as the Sunny Weather!

This was my first trip to Mexico and having an all inclusive resort experience. Normally, I travel a la carte and do research on what restaurants and sights I want to see...but after working really long hours I just wanted to have a vacation over Christmas where my partner and I could just relax and not have to plan anything. Secrets at PV met our expectations and we really enjoyed ourselves! The highlight of the resort was the staff. Even when things weren't perfect (because life isn't perfe [... read more]ct), the staff clearly cared about doing their best and really worked hard. Christian at the pool really treated us like family and kept checking in on us and kept our drinks replenished quickly. The front desk and concierge were friendly and efficient. The lounge drink servers in the lobby area were incredibly friendly and gracious even though some of the guests were not. I'll write separate posts about the restaurants, but in every case, I was impressed with how each staff member seemed to care and work hard to meet guests' needs. Another highlight for us was the view and relaxing experience in the lobby bar. We would relax there for hours, people watching, reading, enjoying the drink service and fantastically talented musical entertainment (piano during the day, singers in the evening). The pool options were great. The swim up bar pool was in one corner so the loud people were in the one area. The snack bar and other bar area were in another area. The space was clean and there were many servers to keep you "hydrated". All the rooms seem to have a water and pool view. Our room was kept very clean. I can attest to what some others have said about a "cleaning fluid" type of a smell in the rooms, but I attribute it to the high humidity and challenges of being in a tropical environment. The room doors can lock in an open position and we just opened those and the balcony doors and let the air flow through for 5 min and the smell went away. I'm not sure about comments I read before going that concerned me now that I have experienced Secrets...the Secrets side is very much "kid free". Yes, it is connected to the Now side which is a family resort, but I only once saw a minor on the Secrets side and clearly he seemed to be granted special permission (he was wearing a clip on security type tag on his shirt). The only loud and screaming people I experienced were adults, and fortunately this was not a common experience. Some also mentioned the resort was loud at night. With the balcony doors closed, (we were on the 6th floor) we did not experience any noise problems after 11pm...so again, this was not our experience. We slept well and felt very relaxed and rested. Best restaurant by far is Bordeaux. It is on the Secrets side, so if you are travelling with kids, you won't get to try it :-( Gentlemen, bring pants and a collared shirt as most of the a la carte restaurants have a dress code. The service is incredible, all the servers were great, Alfonso really treated us with special care. The other server we had (name escapes me, but his wife is soon giving birth) was incredibly gracious and despite thinking about his wife giving birth imminently, was very focussed and made our experience great! Have the mussels, rack of lamb and definitely have the soufflé for dessert!!! At the buffet, the best thing at lunch and dinner is the grill items. The salmon, steak and prawns they do to order and trust me, you will enjoy them!! Once again, the staff are incredible! You cannot beat the view at Oceania (Secrets side) for dinner. The main courses are less tasty than the appies and salads, but the sound of the waves make it special. The Japanese restaurant was our least favourite (Himatsu). The staff worked incredibly hard (they were slammed busy), but the food was pretty mediocre. The sashimi was the best item, everything else was poor or average. All in all, there is something for everyone and you will enjoy it! We would recommend this resort and would certainly return!

Grand Palladium Select White Sand: Beautiful Resort

The property is spectacular and very well maintained. The food was ok ....the only negative I would say is that they don't take Reservations for the speciality restaurants,which could have you waiting for Couple hours. They expect you to stay right there in the line up. we went and sat in the lobby with the buzzer given to us and after hour and a half found out that they kept bumping other people . Also it's a little hard to communicate with the staff . One would expect that at least th [... read more]e front desk staff would be able to communicate well in English but it was a struggle ! We stayed in the junior suites and they were absolutely gorgeous !

Park Royal Ixtapa: Would not recommend

Stayed from December 23 to December 30, 2016. Hotel was quite busy. A lot of kids in the supposed adult only pool, so most of our time was spent on the beach. Food was satisfactory however more variety would have been nice. Would not return to this hotel.

Hilton Vallarta Riviera Resort: Good resort, amazing sunsets

Overall, the resort was really clean, food was great, the music by the main pool was never different, it was have been nice to hear different music. Drinks were great. All staff were very friendly, the spa was very nice.

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Returned December 20, 2016

Had a great time at the Royal. This is our 3rd visit and we love it more every time we go. The food, service & cleanliness of this resort is amazing. We love walking the beach & the location and access to Fifth Avenue. We don't like big resorts, so the Royal is perfect. Can't wait to go back!!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Perfect Loacation

This resort is huge, to big for us. We prefer a smaller resort. The location was great and was close to all of the excursions we went on, tulum, snorkeling, cenotes and dolphins. The food at the buffet was great, lots of variety even for our picky eaters.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Disaster from the start

We arrived at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba on Dec. 24th around 12:00 noon. We had high hopes and expectations since so many good reviews posted on the website about the hotel. However, we were told at first that the room was not ready, the hotel staff told us to come back in one and a half hour later. So we got ourselves breakfast/lunch and went back to the front counter exactly one and a half hour later. We were told again the room was not ready, hotel staff again told us to come back in 45 [... read more] min. So we decided to tour around the facility and went back in 45 min. Third time we were told again the room was not ready, the hotel staff told us to come back at 3:00 o'clock. At that point, we raised our voice and suddenly the room was available, however the room was not what we reserved for. We requested for two double beds with 2nd floor balcony. The hotel staff told us that in two days a room will be available. At that point, we clearly draw the line and said no substitution, asked the hotel to book another room available now not in two days. The hotel staff was rude and arrogant. There was no manager available to plead our case. So for anyone wishes to book this hotel, you should know there is no early check-in. Looking over our shoulder, we saw several other guests having the same issue. We fought and fought and finally got our room. After that experience we told ourselves never to come back again to this hotel. My two children have gone through the same ordeal. For your info, there is a VIP system, for those who has the VIP membership with the hotel, we hear that the treatment is very different. For the regular guests like us, the hotel will treat you like a dirt. So if you decided to book a five star hotel, please go else where. Unless you wish to pay extra money to buy into their VIP membership which is around $20,000 and up. Only good beach in this big resort is the Akumal beach, if you have the blue Coba band around your wrist, the hotel will literally kick you out. The other two beaches are Coba and Tulum which are full of rocks and seaweed. If you wish to enjoy the beach, you should book with the Akumal hotel. If you have booked with Coba or Tulum, then you have no access to Akumal. The suite washroom has no exhaust fan!!! There is no way this is a five star hotel. The coffee tastes horrible. From our experience, this is not a five star hotel.

Grand Palladium Select White Sand: Nice resort

Rooms were amazing. Property was beautiful and was very eco friendly. Cleaning and serving staff was really good. Administrative staff was not always very helpful. The staff working on the front registratuon of every lobby had very poor knowledge of the resort. The worst part was the "no reservations" policy at the specialty restaurants. We wasted so much time every evening. Even when we made the reservation the tables were given to people who came after us.
