This was a fantastic week..great foods..pools..ocean beaches turtles..have recommended it to a couple already they will call you..we did 1 extra trip to Xcaret worth every penny of the 150.00 approx..12 hours not enough to see this park..super show at 8 pm for 2 hours

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an is a synonym for Paradise!

The service throughout the resort is impeccable. The room was perfect, roomy and clean. The hotel grounds are pristine! It is peaceful and quiet, in the middle of a jungle surrounded by birds and trees.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Awesome resorts

Very good,clean hotel and facilities,restaurants are high class and very good and clean with amazing variety of food and drinks,pools and bars are also very good and well designed,all details are beautiful and carefully designed and maintained,especially high quality Gim and Spa . House keeping crews where working very hard to keep facilitiy clean and good looking. Entire personal was friendly and smiling all the time.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Excellent resort

Overall excellent food and services. Very good for tennis players: 3 hard courts and 2 artificial courts. It's easy to find partners for doubles. The service at the main buffet was very good. Polite staff and friendly. Grand Bahia Principe is very well located, near Playa del Carmen and not too far from the different excursions. We enjoy our stay at Bahia Principe Tulum and we'll go back next year.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Awesome with a catch

We just enjoyed our 10th visit to Coba which was great. The resort staff and the food are fantastic.Lots to do on the resort and an amazing variety of extra activities available nearby. Our disappointment this year was the fact that we were previously told as a 10 time guest we would qualify again for VIP extra perks and special considerations. Unknown to us their Head Office changed all VIP perks (effective Nov.1/16) for returning guests starting on their 11th visit, and it was very unclear j [... read more]ust what our status really was. The communication with the resort before we left was very poor as we were not told what we got as a 10 time returning guest and once we arrived we found out we didnt get much. We will consider going back but before we book again we will confirm what the Coba has to offer.

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: True Mexican 5 Star

Had the unfortunate room just over the bar that struck up with the live band at 10:00pm and closed down at 1:00am. Upon speaking to the front desk they were willing to move us to a room above the nightly entertainment room. Really!! The pillows on the beds were the worst I had ever slept on! The food was ok, not fantastic by any means! If you didn't tip the buffet table service staff right at the beginning you could sit and wait for water,coffee or other drinks for your entire meal! The reso [... read more]rt grounds and pools were beautiful and well maintained! Not much of a beach to lay on, the waves got crazy later on during the day but the sand was amazing! It was a great family resort out of town so if your looking for nightlife this would not be the place for you! There was definite inconsistency when it came to service at the front desk! We needed a late checkout and other guests paid $50 USD for a late checkout while I paid nothing. No free WIFI! You had to be a Premiun Guest for WIFI, where is there not free WIFI?? It was a long ride on a windy road into town so if you want nightlife and hustle and bustle this is not the resort for you!

Riu Santa Fe: Best Vacation Ever!!

Absolutely loved our stay at the Riu Santa Fe. Blew our expectations out of the water. We had a room with a great view of the interior pool, and the main grounds of the resort. We were on the top floor so we could also see a beautiful view of the city in the horizon and had a beautiful view of the sunrise in the morning. Rooms were very clean, tiled floors/shower and a double sink with granite counter tops. The drinks in the mini fridge were restocked every couple days, but we were shocked to [... read more] find another mini bar with 4 full bottles of hard liquor that you could help yourself to. The units in the resort were thoroughly cleaned daily, the grounds were clean and maintained daily as well. The main walkways were always washed throughout the day and the maids kept hallways and stairways swept, mopped, and dusted before we were even up for the day! The food was good, always a wide selection to chose from! From a salad bar, to fruit and dessert or chicken, fish, mashed potatoes and gravy, pasta, soup...etc. We did find that you had to be at the a la carte's very early to get into the restaurants. *(Steakhouse is definitely worth your while)* The beach was clean and nice. However, the sand was not very soft and not fun to walk on for a long period of time. The ocean was fun to be in but you had to go in with caution as the waves and undertow was strong. We did walk left up the beach that took us to these big rocks. beautiful view. and we also walked right which took us to a marina. If you kept walking there were many shops, a mall, restaurants, tequila tasting, etc. Made for a fun day, but sore muscles the next!! The view from the beach was amazing!! I loved looking out , whether you were sitting having drinks in the infinity pools or you were on the beach you could look out and see the beautiful view of lovers arch. Pools were cleaned and maintained. Pool location for everyone...Family pool towards the middle of the resort where it was more quiet . Or if you wanted to enjoy drinks there were a few pools with a swim up bar. There was a pool for daily entertainment...Depends how you felt that day, you could chose where you wanted to hang! The bars are clean, drinks are great and a great selection to chose from, and the service of the bartenders were fun and inviting. Night shows were fun to watch, they also had a "pre show" that got the kids involved too! (and it was fun to watch the kids having a good time as well) We had the best vacation at the Riu Santa Fe, and we highly recommend it to anyone. But more so, individuals or couples that are ready to drink and party as we found the majority of the age group was between 18 and 30. We had the best time, made the best friends and created the best memories. Thanks for the recommendation . We cant wait to return!!!

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Nice resort

We found the resort overall to be nice, it wasn't amazing though. There were a lot of kids as it's very much family oriented but we still had fun as a couple. The food was okay in the buffets, if you go anytime around an hour after it opens the food is cold and there's not as much selection. The restaurants were much better, we tried the Brazilian, Mediterranean, Japanese, and the don Pablo gourmet and all were delicious. The shows we're okay, the magic show at coba was amazing one night. All th [... read more]e staff were very friendly and fun. We also had a leak in our bathroom but they were right on top of it and fixed it within a couple hours. The beach had a red flag up our whole trip as it was very wavy but they have little areas blocked off that you can still go into where they break the waves. There's beach volleyball too at tulum.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great resort!

This resort offers great service and lots of amenities. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The beach is great, but the water is quite dirty (lots of seaweed) so if you're looking to spend all your time in the ocean, you may not enjoy it.

Las Palmas by the Sea: very noisy in need of updating resort

Our first room had a broken cracked sink, very old worn out furniture and decor, second room was updated but still cracked sink and sewage smell from shower drain, no hot water and once no water. Very clean rooms house keeping was friendly did the best job she could with what She had. Towels thread bare. This is not a hotel to relax and hear the ocean!! Staff was incredibly friendly great service. The bars over pour drinks no cut off period lots of obnoxious drunks yelling, screaming, falling off of bar stools cracking open Their heads bleeding. People getting so drunk on Tequila etc. The bar tenders and staff have to put them in wheel chairs push them to their rooms. Constant noise no sleep . Cheap holiday and if You like noise and drunks and dilapitated rooms this is the resort for You.Front desk manager never smiles and is a rude arrogant mean little Man. Whenever You ask for anything You are putting Him out. Staff is paid $1 a hour so please tip.

Barcelo Huatulco: Excellent resort at a great price, except for the alright food

We spent a week at the Barcelo Huatulco (13-20 Dec. 2016) just before prices rose for Christmas. Overall we very much liked the resort: for everything but the food I’d rate it as a 4.5 star; for regular eaters I’d rate it as maybe 4 stars and, for those with special diets (e.g. vegetarians), a 2 to at most a 3 star. Things we liked. Resort. Like most resorts in the area, this one was built maybe 30+ years back and so it is not the most modern. That said, it is compact, well designed,  [... read more]easy to use, with nice gardens and large palm trees, and the views over the beach and ocean from the lobby and many rooms are beautiful. There are two adjacent pools – one for children and the other (with a bar) for adults. Water levels are never deep – this is not a place to do laps. There is a well equipped gym, tennis courts, a mini-golf area, a games room (pool and ping pong tables…) and I believe that the use of all including equipment (not verified for tennis rackets) is free. There is the main buffet and four restaurants which are not always open every night (Italian, Spanish, Mexican and a small sushi restaurant that did not require reservations). There are a lot of places to lay down around the pool and overlooking the ocean but, despite that, at the end of our stay just before Christmas the idiotic towel game – people getting up at 7AM to “reserve” chairs - was in full swing. Beach The beach is one of the largest in the area. Facing the beach, at the far left past Dreams, is an area where there are many fish – take some bread to feed them. The beach goes down fast to the water and then beyond – the water gets deep fast. When we were there waves were moderate, other beaches in the area have much more violent surf (Chahue) or less so (Santa Cruz and Entrega), but you will need to take taxis to go there. The hotel has some equipment for water sports (small sail catamarans, plastic kayaks…) that they can show you how to use, and water skidoos you can rent for a I think $60US per half hour. Entertainment Every evening there is music in the lobby bar (pretty good musicians and singers), followed by a show in the theater (varied and better than most I’ve seen in AI resorts), and mostly Mexican dance music starting around 11PM or so in the bar across from the Japanese Sushi restaurant. Clients were over half Mexican, with a lot of Canadians, a few Americans and a handful of other nationalities. Rooms have been recently renovated and are nice. If you pay considerably more for premium status, you get an ocean front room (plus better food and drinks); otherwise you get an ocean view or garden view room (like us). Higher rooms give better views (rooms on the inside of the U shaped buildings have views of the pool area and sea). The beach and resort face almost directly south. Rooms with odd numbers give you better sunrise views while those with even numbers have the afternoon sun. Staff As is often the case in Huatulco, the local staff are wonderful. A suggestion to guests: tip the staff well – they do their jobs very well and their salaries are not high; the area is not well-off. Excursions We went twice to the small town of la Crucecita (fixed price taxi 43 pesos) – a pleasant place, with good jewelry and clothes shops including one behind weaves being used to make local tablecloths. They have ice cream at one corner of the zocalo (central square) – you choose the ingredients that are combined and then “fried” in an extremely cold pan in front of you – neat. Two places to hang out for snacks, pizzas and drinks are on the second floors overlooking the square – one above the ice cream place (only open in the evening) and the other diagonally across the square (open all day long). Prices are good and they are great places for people watching. Santa Cruz (fixed price taxi 43 pesos) is a smaller town with a marina, with a real nice small organic open market the 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings of every month. There is a fair sized tourist souvenir area (hats, tee-shirts, etc.) and elsewhere some good stores and restaurants (including a few right along the waterfront where you can eat guacamole and have a margarita with your feet in the sand). One day we took a taxi outside of our hotel (excellent safe driver who speaks very good English and knows the area very well – Fernando, taxi 045, phone 958-109-5001 – spent 1200 pesos for the day plus a tip of 150 and we bought him lunch too) to travel first to the Santa Cruz organic market, and then onto the turtle center in Mazunte (a 75 minute drive up the coast), and the lagoons in Ventanilla (huge iguana, crocodiles…), and finally to drive through other nearby beach towns on the way back. It was an excellent day and cost less than half that of a regular tour for the four of us. Another half day we went snorkeling with Hurricane Divers (located in Santa Cruz) – saw some fantastic fish and paid somewhat less for the experience than a tour bought in the hotel. Worth the experience. Now the less good – the food. The food was of variable quality, and we most liked breakfasts (and the omelette ladies who often also could cook small quesadillas with added mushrooms…). Loads of fruit, juices and breakfast food. Coffee was pretty good (and we are picky). For lunch (buffets) and dinner in the main buffet, there was an overwhelming number of choices of generally low-quality meats (pork slices, fish fingers, hamburgers…). There was a good number of salads, a few vegetable side dishes, and some good natural fruit drinks too. But for people wanting to avoid eating much meat, other options were often very scarce. We only tried the Italian and Mexican restaurants. The Italian one was quite good but had a pretty limited menu (as they were often out of some items, like green salad) but their entrées (hors d’oeuvres, salads…) were pretty tasty and well presented, as was the pasta. The pizzas, however, were lousy. It had the best reputation of all a la carte restaurants and from our experience we agree. That restaurant is located outside beside the pools, and so they allow men to wear shorts and sandals – in the other a la carte restaurants you need long pants and shoes. The Mexican restaurant was hit-or-miss – excellent poblano soup, just acceptable mushroom soup, quite good cheese chili rellenos (a special order), just alright tlayudas, etc. Service (as always) however was excellent. There were vegetarians in our group and, despite really liking the resort, their problems were such that we may not return. A resort that offers maybe 40 meat and seafood main dinner dishes in the buffets can make an effort to have a couple main dish veggie options for those who prefer to eat otherwise. They often use chicken stock in soups and rice, lard in beans… and this is not marked, making it real hard to know what a vegetarian can eat. This was a problem even in the a la carte restaurants, with the exception of the very good Italian one. Luckily for us there was no limit on the number of times we could eat there – we ate dinner there 4 nights out of 7. (That said, this is our second trip to the Huatulco area and our general impression is that, unlike some other resort destinations, most restaurants and resorts in Huatulco make little effort to accommodate vegetarians...) Finally, we were drawn to this resort in part because of the advertised $500 bonus coupons being offered. These were moderate reductions for expensive room upgrades and for spa treatments – things we never used. So don’t count on these being all that useful when you make your resort choices…

Grand Oasis Cancun: Lots of Fun!

Great week with great peoeple and service. Cant wait to return and continue the party. Service was okay and drinks where basic alcoholic drinks, would like to have seen more options for drinks. Lots of excursions to see and participate in, i wish I had more time to do more. Overall i would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to party.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Amazing Resort!

We thought this resort was outstanding. The food at the main buffet was excellent, always changing the variety of food from day to day. The grounds were well kept, the staff was very polite and friendly. The beach was a bit rocky but we're not really beach people and the pools more than made up for the beach. The steakhouse a la carte was a bit of a disappointment which likely was due mainly to the poor service we received. All in all, we can't wait to go back.

Fiesta Americana Riviera Nayarit: I've had better Dreams......

I stayed at Dreams Villamagna Dec 15-22 with my husband and our 5 year old son. This is our 7th visit to a Dreams/Now property since our son was born. We are drawn to the family friendly nature the chain provides, and initially, that they are gated properties. Needless to say we are big fans thus repeat clients. However, we were disappointed with this stay. Property and Pools - Dreams has made us become accustomed to a grand lobby entrance. This was missing so the first impression was u [... read more]nderwhelming. Not a big deal but it got worse. The land is narrow and deep and the property itself is made up of 3 large buildings, 8 or 9 stories each. The building closest to the beach is a condo building of individually owned condo units. This building is perpendicular to the ocean, with a slight curvature to maximize the view. Running it's entire perpendicular length is 2 ajoining pools. The one fronting the ocean was not heated (my son coined in "the Canadian pool") thus very quiet. Huge disappointment. The attached or middle pool was warmer thus busier and kid friendly. The main pool was heated and the busiest. The activities led by the entertainment team occurred in this pool. The enteraiment team did a great job. Despite being called the "adult pool" it was filled with children. My son, learning to swim, could not touch the bottom in some areas but enjoyed the ledge than ran the length of the pool. We brought our own boogie boards though they are available from the activity/towel bar. This main pool was set farthest away from the beach and directly in front of the main 'ocean facing' hotel building. We stayed in this building and did have an ocean view but being set so far back on the property from the beach we could not hear the waves and while we could see the ocean, a pair of binoculars would have helped. We also could not hear the ocean. A big disappointment and unlike the other properties we have stayed at. The third building was behind ours and I believe only had views of the community. The Explorers Kids Club - despite its raving TripAdvisor reviews was not like the other Dreams/Now properties we have been to. It too was disappointing. The kids club was well secured and the caretakers seemed friendly. Our son only attended one day for just a few hours. He was content to play in the pool or on the beach for the majority of our stay. It is centrally located on the ground level corner unit of the condo building. Other properties had an expansive outdoor play area with play structure and sportcourt. Despite lacking those, the menu of activities was engaging. The Food - hmmm. Apart from the omelet station at breakfast, the buffet (World Cafe) was almost inedible. I am by no means a picky eater, in fact, I'll eat anything. I've been to over 30 countries and some of my favorite food is Asian street food so by no means do I have a trained, delicate palette. I expected far, far more/better. This was not a representation of the Dreams I know. The a la carte restaurants were very good. We did El Patio (Mexican) twice, Oceanu for lunch was nice. The attraction of the Barefoot Grill was in fact bare feet, and a wet bikini. It is attached to Oceanu and share the same kitchen. If you run into a nice server they will allow you to order off the Oceanu menu while sitting at the Barefoot Grill. This was a win. The rooftop lounge also serves sushi. Not so much a meal but a good appetizer. Sushi is definitely my thing (my son's too) and it's by far the best sushi we've had in Mexico. Mexican style containing cream cheese yet still good. We did not try the adult only Portofino. We also found the room service very good, and hot. The Coco Cafe was estetically unappealing in comparison to ones at other properties but served the same decent latte. The lime tarts are a must try. The Gym - next to Coco Cafe. Tiny for sure but had all the necessary barbells for girls who lift. There were some cardio machines too; all the usual I believe but not positive as I don't use them. The Towel Game - beach chairs on the beach need to be secured early. The chairs around the pool decks did not. This was a huge plus for this resort. It was never too busy that you couldn't find a good spot. The Beach - excellent, expansive. My son played for hours. A long walk on both directions is must. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our time away from the minus 20 degree weather we left behind in Calgary. You really can’t go wrong with a week of fun in the sun. But if there are certain expectations you are hoping to have fulfilled that were present at other Dreams resorts, I'm afraid you will be disappointed. We will not be returning to Dreams Villamagna but will continue to book other properties in the chain as perhaps this was a one-off.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Wonderful vacation!!!

Resort was great a bit big but shuttle service available distance from farthest room to beach is approximately.8 Km. Great for working off excess calories there is a donkey and goat enclosure as well as cat cafe along the way. All amenities are in between. Al la cartes were delicious and beach was an absolute 10. Could walk or bike to town very safe tourists everywhere it's about 2.5 km. Great shopping and local fare. Would definitely return to this resort again was there 10 years ago but won't  [... read more]wait that long again. Happy holidays!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Beautiful resort with great service!

When we arrived we were immediately upgraded from Gran Bahia Principe Coba to Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. This was great as Tulum is steps from the beach. Rooms were not spectacular but overall the resort was beautiful and the service was great as well. We travelled with our 22 month old son and our needs were always looked after.

Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: Excellent vacation

Recently returned from Hilton P.V. Great location....walk out to the street and put your hand up when a bus comes by, hop in for 7 pesos. This resort is small, but has everything necessary to have a great vacation. The food and drinks were excellent. Service second to none! Beds, bedding, pillows were lovely.

Desire Resort: Exceptional Staff

Resort for open minded couples. The HIGH price reflects the aspect of the resort NOT the food and drinks and rooms....I definitely think they need to upgrade the drinks and food for the price paid. Rooms are clean but need upgrading which they are in the process of. Unfortunately, the beach was not good due to a recent storm from Mother Nature. The staff here are exceptional. (Daniel waiter, Daniel pool, Carlos bar, Toño bar, Leo waiter, Edi waiter, several others who's names escape me). And fo [... read more]r fitness minded people, there is a decent gym. Very nice spa area as well. If your into a swinger lifestyle and nudity, definitely the right place. Although if you don't want to participate in either, no one their is bothered. Really enjoyed the entertainment staff. (Jesus & Ana). Always laughs & fun.

Azul Ixtapa Grand Resort: Great Pre-Christmas Getaway

First time here with not much expectation after last Mexican trip at a 5 star south of Cancun. Pleasantly surprised by the excellent service, great food and the friendliest staff ever encountered in Mexico. Every bartender, server, cleaner, bellboy, activity and desk staff were so friendly I thought we had tipped them 100+ pesos each in advance per service. Food was also excellent, but please don't opt for the Oyster Bar breakfast due to the morning wasps it attracts. Best a la Cartès were;  [... read more]Oyster Bar seafood dinner (no wasps), Oriental and Mexican. Best surprise of all was the lack of pushy timeshare salespeople and the excellent personal on site attention given by the resort manager and each restaurant manager. This is a compact resort, built upwards thus minimal walking but has a great elevator system for the mobility challenged. We will definitely come back. NB- be sure to walk to the pier and take the water taxi time Ixtapa island. Only 40 pesos each return for a day of great snorkeling, swimming and friendly beach front bars/cafes. Rooms are modern and well maintained with quality granite-marble work and free good fast Wi-Fi included for each room. Also, try to request a room on the left half of the building (looking toward the ocean) for the best ocean views and magnificent sunsets.

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Amazing!

Just a great adults only resort. One of the best in the Playacar area. The grounds are beautiful with resort amenities not over subscribed. No line-ups here! There were plenty of places to discover a tranquil moment with a special friend or loved one. The food was consistently good; better than many of the other resorts in the area. The staff are very courtious and always made that extra effort to make our stay memorable. We will return there again in the spring.
