Hotel Playa Paraiso: Not pleasant Playa Paraiso, Cayo Coco, Cuba

My wife and I have been on vacation in Cuba many times, we enjoyed it. This vacation was different. We spent almost two weeks in Playa Paradiso, Cayo Coco, Cuba around Christmas time. COVID19 limitations are very minimal, some people were voluntarily wearing masks on the plane and in the resort, (less than 5%), nobody on the beaches. The airport is very busy, [... read more] long waiting time but it is just formality to go through customs, staff is very friendly. On the positive note; landscape in the resort is beautiful, abundance of food, room was clean, ac worked, nice pool, hot and cold water, free WiFi in the lobby, gorgeous beaches, crystal clear and warm sea water, nice weather. Unfortunately there were many drawbacks. There were not welcome drink or greetings when we came to the resort. Servants and other staff in the hotel were apathetic and ignorant. It looked that we were standing on their way to have a nice, funny day, they were important in the hotel, not clients. Many unpleasant little things like; give a tip for better service or drink (all-inclusive vac), electric vehicle drivers would run you over-they never offered a ride or smile, beach towel exchange not available. In the lobby we were offered a drink or coffee only once over two week period. Bars were offering drinks only with cheap rum. On plaques at bar walls they listed many drinks but only a few were available. We never got Margarita, Mohito was available only for a couple of hours a day. Hotel was overcrowded, long lineups to get food in one only buffet, pizza shack or drinks in bars. Lobby was always crowded in the evenings. Catamaran or paddle boats were always booked solid and not available. Pineapple on the beach cost $5US. And many, many more. The entertainment at the pool was not too bad with a nice music. Shows in the theater were very low quality but very noisy. Both; theater and beach were using powerful speakers and were making lots of loud noise. Most of the time it was low bass, trembling modern music, not Cuban traditional music. Lobby was unbelievably noisy; pool and theater were competing who was louder, theater was winning, they were the loudest. Ear plugs would help to survive but they were not available. If you are looking for a nice quiet vacation to relax do not go to Playa Paradiso. My wife left in our room # 9308 in a drawer brand new, expensive lipstick ($65), it was stolen. The last but not the least was flags at the entrance to the hotel. There were three of them: Cuban, Canadian and Russian. We talked about the Russian flag to the Quality Manager. We complained that the Russian flag should not be proudly exposed in a hotel were people from many countries are coming. After Russia invaded Ukraine many people have died, Ukraine is ruined by racket attacks and many inhuman criminal crimes have been committed in Ukraine by Russia. Russia should be tried by international tribunal for war crimes and reparations to Ukraine, not proudly supported. After we discussed this with the Quality Manager one flag was removed, guess which one, you will never guess. They removed the Cuban flag, Russian and Canadian flags remained. Cuban convertible currency is not used anymore, they like Canadian and preferably the US dollars. When we purchased vacation the hotel was advertised as #4.5 stars. After our experience we say that Playa Paradiso should be re-rated to #3.5 stars. On our next vacation we will not go to Cuba until they figure out what they are doing, how to serve better vacationers and where the Cuban economy is heading, are they still sticking to Russia or changing direction to go along with the democratic world. We may go to Mexico or Costa Rica instead.

Hotel Playa Coco: Great resort

Wonderful staff, clean and very well maintained property. Best resort I've been to in Cuba. Pool is huge and lots of room for everyone to have a great time playing or floating. Thank you to all the staff that work so hard to ensure we had a great week, especially to Adriana, Jorge, Raul and Taimy - you're the best !

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Just ok

The people of the resort were great, friendly and welcoming. The food was pretty much the same all the time and without flavours. The beds are uncomfortable and the sandflies are terrible. I wouldn't go back here. But not a terrible place by far just not worth the money.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Great resort!!

Hotel colonial was a great stay in my opinion. Very relaxing and serene in atmosphere. Building and rooms are quite old and need some updates and improvement. The staff were great. They all worked really hard to make our stay more comforting fun. Especially their entertainment crew. Thank you Elvis, Dayanny, Balma Jr. and the rest of team Colonial cayo coco for the great vacation.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great vacation!

Everything was great on this trip. Our Transat Rep Jorge was very well informed and his initial talk very clear. We purchased the Sunset Cruise, ‘Now Cuba’ trip into Moron & the VIP lounge for the return trip. We used the Hop on Hop Off bus also. The buffet and all the a-La-carte restaurants were very good the nightly entertainment with the dancers was excellent , Xmas Eve show was spectacular! This show felt like the performers thought the audience was not enough for them & instead of entertaining us they wanted us to cheer more, clap more, dance more , stand more, catch a God forsaken T shirt thrown at us! LOL ! I felt ‘safe’ & did not worry about COVID & thank God Covid protocols weren’t’ in our face all the time!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Won’t return to this resort

Room was in a good location but not enough towels we booked 3 people and usually got one towel had to keep asking. Toilet leaks they finally sent maintenance on 5th day. Never had beach towels till 3 rd day . No water in our room for one day then no hot water at all . Beach was good not enough lounges but entertainment was great . Buffett had plenty of food very clean. Line up to get in was way too long and it didn’t open till 7:00 pm so not good for people with young children. Management was absolutely awful and not helpful at all .

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Resort review

The resort is quite nice, although very rundown, they try their best to maintain it but simply do not have enough man power to do so. The food is not good at all. The bartenders and servers are very nice, the event staff are amazing super friendly and are the main reason why we had fun on our trip. The room itself was very bad as we got bedbug bites and the sheets were always dirty even when getting “clean ones” with constant brown stains. Burger and fries is simply not a “snack”.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Disappointing

Terrible experience. Food is poor, same every day, hard to get food between meals. Buffet is disorganized, not enough tongs, guests are generally rude and push you around. Not enough pool/beach chairs for the number of guests. Smoking EVERYWHERE, you can’t get a drink from the lobby bar or line up for the buffet without inhaling a bunch of smoke. Grounds keepers are creepy and will peer into rooms when nobody is there, presumably to see what they can steal, they will also try to sell you off b [... read more]rand cigars, etc. if you drink, don’t expect much selection. Coffee is either too weak, the staff don’t even tamp the grinds for espresso so it’s basically coloured water. Pools are okay but small. If you have a bad weather day, there isn’t much to do. There are no trails or anything adventurous much to do in the area unless you want to spent a fortune on an excursion, there’s one road with a bad camber, it’s safe to run on but gets boring quick. Would never go back here, and definitely would not recommend.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great resort

Really enjoyed Gran Muthu Imperial. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Resort is well kept and clean. Pools great - only minus was no hot tub. On a great beach and minutes from nicest beach in the country. Food wasn’t the greasiest but drinks were very tasty. If you get it at a good price would recommend.

Tryp Cayo Coco: third trip to Tryp

do love this place! they took a big hit to thier supply chain with Covid. unfortunate considering it has always been an issue. wonderful staff. we (6) were there dec.9-18 with 200 other guests and only one alcarte an evening was open.Tryp was definately filling up by the time we had to go home. beautiful weather. Thanks for the Bottle gift for return guests. be back in Dec.again, possibly Feb.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Good resort

The employees do there best with what they have . Keep it very clean. Did run out items but would be a day and ithe item would be back. Rooms are not all newly renovated like the sight claims. Don't fly out of Toronto and don't fly with Sunwing. Do your research.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Hotel is okay

Beach and surrounding grounds are good. Food is okay. Service is very slow at Snack bar. Considering all they serve is sandwiches it should not be slow. The Italian and Indian restaurants are very good. The Cuban is good for fish. The beef is not edible. The buffet is okay typical for Cuba. One thing for improvement is make the wifi last the lenght of your stay. You have to reset everyday. The toilets are constantly running which makes sleeping difficult.

Melia Cayo Coco: Lovely resort great staff

Pool area is lovely lots of sunbeds and shade little cabanas around the pool. Activities yoga water aerobics painting hobbies cat to go snorkeling. Lots of loungers at beach shade or sun. Plenty of restaurants keep in mind the food is not the same as Canada but fine. Staff is appreciative of any gifts Left my husband's t shirts brought shampoo toothpaste tooth brushes deodetant feminine hygiene products. Best part are the people so friendly caring

Melia Costa Rey: Sun Wing disaster!

This will be the last time I book with Sun Wing. Two trips in a row their service and reliability is a 1/10! Never again! On a positive note, the Pullman was great. Amazing staff! Go see Pablo in the dive shop, a true gentlemen!!

Tryp Cayo Coco: Repeat visit, always incredible

Location location! Beaches, night life and incredible staff always make our trips incredible! You can always find new friends, great foods and beverages are a great mixture of options! Until next time!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Unorganized Hotel with very Poor Managenent and filled over capacity!!!

This was our first time going back to Cayo Coco post-COVID and our first time staying at Hotel Playa Paraiso. This Resort is unorganized, it has very poor management, it was short staffed and full over the hotel capacity. Checking in was a mess. We had to wait 4 and half hours to get the keys to our room and the teenager girl working at the front desk was very rude, unprofessional and not helpful at all, not giving us any explanation other than the room was occupied with other guests that had p [... read more]aid for late checkout so they could not make it ready for us sooner. My question is why would the Hotel assign rooms with late checkout to the guests that arrive early???? Not just us, but every guest that arrived at that time had to go through the same. The lobby was full of people just waiting for their room keys for many hours. They were short of everything specially towels and bedding. There was only 1 made cleaning all the rooms in each level so the room was not cleaned some days until the evening. The made was taking away the used towels from the room and telling us she did not have clean towels to give us, so we ended up using our own beach towels to take a shower. There were long lines to get into the Buffet, specially for breakfast and dinner, and once you were in, there were long lines to get to the food (like 40 minutes to get an omelet or a portion of grilled chicken). Also there was clearly an issue with the hot table, maybe it was not working or maybe they put it at a very low temperature because the food was always cold even when the Buffet just opened. It was also very dirty, there were flies and a small bird flying around the buffet and we even saw cockroaches in two different occasions during the dinner service. As for COVID-19 adaptations, there was nothing more that EMPTY hand sanitizer dispensers all around the lobby area of the hotel. I wish I had better things to say, but this was our experience in this Hotel. What was supposed to be a relaxing family vacation turned into a very frustrating and disappointing experience. We will definitely not be back at this hotel. .

Melia Jardines del Rey: Resort has seen better days

Lobby is nice and open but the seating area is in desperate need of new cushions and more chairs. The fountain areas have no guard rails or lighting amd people would fall which is very dangerous. The pool chairs are old and saggy and lots of mold. The bottom of the pools tiles are broken causing bleeding feet to adults and children. Only had 1 buffet open for hundreds of people resulting in long line ups to even get in. Due to lack of staff, Public bathrooms were closed most times and when they  [... read more]were open no toilet paper. So you had to go back to your room to use the bathroom. Food was horrible but then again we expected that in Cuba. Very limited choices but the bread was fresh and great. The beach is very far from the resort and very rocky and you needed water shoes to go in. Would never go back to this resort and would not recommend it. Definitely NOT a 5-star

Hotel Mojito: Great getaway

Nice hotel, love the weather walking distance to the beach, my only complaint is the local shops in and around the hotel are overpriced. Other than that it is a great getaway from Canada's harsh winter and I would totally recommend this resort or Cayo Coco in general.

For the money that we spent, we were not happy. If it was under $800, I would say it was acceptable. We checked in two days late because of the flight delayed. By this time the room was not quite ready. The fridge was empty. The main door and window was hard to lock. I felt unsafe to leave our belonging unattended. Checked in was horrible. The hotel receptionist was struggling. He seemed confused. It was almost like our reservations were cancelled because of our late arrival.
