This adults only resort seems to really cater to a slightly older crowd. It was quiet and laid back. The food was pretty good except for the restaurant at the beach and barbecue which we found pretty mediocre all 3 times we ate there. The staff was curtious and friendlt

Tryp Cayo Coco: BEWARE—- you do not get what is posted on the site description.Paid a lot of $$$ not worth it
Very old Resort it shows its age, grounds around the 3 buildings they put vacationers in were taken care of but the rest of the resort was a different story.
Many, many buildings left empty resort might have had about 300-350 people the week we were there March1-8 running at 30% capacity.
No toilets hardly or toilet paper, no paper towels and all the hand driers didn’t work at all. Not enough washroom on the property at all especially if your at the beach you had to come up to your room, t[... read more]hat’s because the Beach Grill is closed and the washroom facilities were in there.
Bars not opened, Bar at the quiet pool in the middle of the resort was closed permanently as well, beach grill closed permanently.
Hot Tub by the main pool was drained bone dry. Bar and snack bar was never opened when it was suppose to be 10am-11pm, might have opened up at 6pm for a few hours.
Husband walked the Resort every night and he said they had a Transport Truck at the back of the Resort and they were loading furniture and beds from the un-occupied rooms onto to the truck. Truly feel this Resort is having financial issues.
Sad very sad, we couldn’t even get into a Specialty Restaurant because they were only opening 1(one) a night we could get Reservations the night we were flying home.
If anything good came from this vacation it was the Staff & Customer Service
No issues there. They were all fantastic. They work very hard to make us happyâ¤ï¸â¤ï¸
Food in the Buffett was awesome so tasty and plenty.
Truthfully wasn’t worth what we paid and other guests there had paid 350.00 per person less than us.
Not going back there Cayo Coco is gorgeous but will choose a different Resort next time.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Will never go anywhere else but the Tryp!!
The staff at this resort are amazing! Naymi, Uberlandis & Yosgvany at the lobby bar are the best. They look after me year after year. Margey and Yanelis at the buffet save me my table and my juice at breakfast or my wine at lunch & dinner are already on the table when I return with my plateful of amazing food. I eat more at this resort then I eat at home. This is my third year at the Tryp and once again I will never go to another resort. My room this year was a little far away from the lob[... read more]by and one of the older rooms, but beds are comfortable, and they get me into a ground floor room so I love sitting on my patio reading. We had three overcast cool days but still made the best of the holiday. My only complaint would be the maid service this year. I have always had excellent maids in my past visits, but this year she was almost non-existent. No fancy towel designs, no clean towels (even though gifts were left on the bed everyday for her). Sad that Rudy is no longer there to golf cart me to my room and pick up and my luggage up at the end of the holiday, but the service was still great. It is an easy walk to the market, which is a fun experience. I can't wait til next year to return (or hopefully before). Once again, amazing resort and the price is right.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: nice resort
Small resort situated on a beautiful sandy beach, Melia Peninsula is a good place to spend a week long vacation. The beach has plenty of chairs and protection from the sun, we did not have to reserve a place in the morning. There is one pool for adults, but the music can be loud during activities. Nice installations for small kids with their own pool and center.
We found the food ok but repetitive. But with the situation in Cuba, we were expecting this. Friendly staff and our Air Transat peopl[... read more]e very helpful.
Overall we got what we were looking for: clean room, superb beach and sun!

Melia Las Antillas: Absolutely amazing!
Beautiful resort!! Absolutely love the bungalow rooms, very nice clean rooms, amazing staff!! Lots of room around the big pool, tons of shows and activities to keep you busy, short walk to a gorgeous beach. Everything you need all on site, food was alot better then we had expected. Only 1 thing we didnt like and that was the strong sewage smell during some late nights. We may return in the future. I would rate this hotel a 4 star.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great place for Kids and Adults
Overall a good quality resort for Cuba. We have been to Cuba to various areas over a dozen times, so we had a reasonable expectation. The beach in front of this resort is great, lots of beach for napping/tanning/playing, the Ocean has a nice shallow walk in to the Sandbar for the kids, and the bar and water sports are close by. There was lots of shade huts as well. it was a short walk back to Pool bar or Beach Bar for Lunch or snacks. The Kids poos was the hit of the week, very large, slides are[... read more] great, and nice and shallow for thoes that wanted it. Our kids had a blast there, my only disappointment was the bar there did not have beer, so I had to walk to the lobby bar...
The rooms were nice and clean. We had the family suite with the bunk beds, and contrary to what i've read, they are plenty sturdy and safe for the kids to sleep on. The bathrooms are upgraded and everything seemed to work in the room. The staff were mostly helpful and provided good service, there are always the few that seem to not want to work so hard, which is frustrating. We were there 1's week of March 2020 which is not their full buys season yet, so they are not fully staffed either, so sometimes it seemed they were a bit under staffed.
The food was about what we've expected as far as quality and basic options. Lately there have been shortages on certain supplies and unfortunately for us, they had no cheese so we could not have Pizza at the pool grill :(:( that was probably the biggest disappointment. Also we had no buns for the burgers for a couple days either, so the kids were a bit disappointed with not many options of what to eat. But we always found something to eat and never went hungry, Cubans are very good at improvising with what they have.
Our trip to Varadero was great, Yes they pack the Bus that goes there ($5 each, kids 6 and under free) but it's part of the experience! Just be aware that the horse and buggy rides are priced per person! they will say $10 per hour and will not mention the per person fact until you arrive at the destination. And when they want to take you to the private restaurant, while it is lovely, it is very overpriced..
But overall we had a great week, great weather and i would still recommend this resort.

Melia Las Americas: Very nice resort
grounds were neat and well kept; proximity to the golf course was fantastic; the room served its purpose, nothing fancy but was sufficient for its needs: beds, bathroom, a safe, closet, nice view of lake and golf course from balcony and was cleaned nicely each day. my largest complaint is the food in the buffet, we went to Havana for a day and the food we ate was fantastic! was authentic and tasty and gave us no issues whatsoever. so the question is, why doesn't the resort serve authentic Cuban [... read more]food rather than try to cater to American/Canadian food items? we visited Cuba to view Cuban culture and eat Cuban food, not for their attempt to recreate McDonald's type food. as well the service while not totally terrible it was the indifference shown when they ran out of certain types of beer and drink mixes, which of course should not happen. overall we were satisfied with our visit but at times were disappointed over certain issues which are completely avoidable.

Melia Marina Varadero: disappointing resort
The room was very modest, but still was OK. It's more a question of slow/non-existent service, lack of availability and poor food.
- There was no juice or milk on the resort, even at the restaurants. They had only Fanta; which is just sugar and water. We have two kids and they drank water the whole time. There was mango juice at the buffet the last two days.
- The lobby bar, the beach bar and the snack bar all ran out of Cola for three full days... really?! We're in Cuba. A Cuba Libre (rhum &[... read more] coke) without cola is just rhum.
- The pre-prepared food at the buffet was cold at all the meals, not sure it was very safe.
- The service was exceptionally slow (and we were tipping, so we had much better service than most travelers there who weren't tipping) and pride of service was lacking (except for a few people who provided good service)
- The resort labels itself as the Melia Marina, but as soon as you step outside on the Marina side, nothing there is included in your stay. We quickly found out when we sat down for an ice-cream and had to pay out of pocket, it would have been nice for the hotel to state this when we checked-in or mention it in the booking.
- We also had a few episodes of some staff members trying to make money off of us with their sad stories, only to find out the next day that these stories were rehearsed and they used the same thing again with us the next day (not remembering they had approached us the prior day).
Our flight ended-up being delayed severely and we were given a room at the Melia Peninsula for one night, that resort was much more impressive. The staff at check in was fast and helpful, while we were at the buffet, the manager came to introduce himself and ask if everything was enjoyable; we had no towels in our room as our stay was last minute, he made a quick call in front of us and within 5 min, we had towels in our rooms. The bar tenders were extremely productive and you didn't wait much.
I would not stay at the Melia Marina again, and it made me reconsider ever going back to cuba at all. But our short experience at the Melia Peninsula is making me reconsider as I could consider trying it for a longer stay.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: New experience
The Melia peninsula was a mixed bag of good and bad. I could easily tell they spend a lot of money and effort on the grounds and booze, but nobody who worked there seemed to understand English or had a welcoming attitude. The bank refused to cash in my American money which I purposefully brought as I mistakenly thought it was welcomed form of currency. There was no Cuban music or much entertainment the whole week. The restaurants are just more food from the buffet which was bland or salty. They [... read more]had very good French fries and americano and espresso. They kept the room clean and tidy everyday but one time I thought they just reused the same bedding. They were supposed to refill the room bar but if you didn’t take a certain thing they would take it away and not replace it. This was annoying as I wanted to enjoy the cans of beer but at a later time. The wifi was only available in the lobby and there were limited working plugs. I missed my rep meeting after the arrival because it was scheduled for the morning but my arrival wasn’t until 3am so I slept in. As such I missed a lot of pertinent information that would have made my stay better and the rep wasn’t available much after that. When I asked to go on an excursion, I wanted reassurance that I wouldn’t be left alone in the city and was assured I wouldn’t be, which didn’t turn out to be true. Later when I brought it up to the rep she passed the blame on to the tour guide and basically made fun of me for complaining saying nothing bad happened to me. I didn’t like the smoking everywhere on the beach and outdoors or the constant loud dance music. Also everyone seemed to want a tip. Other than all that, the heat was amazing and the ocean was great. It was interesting to see Havana. I probably wouldn’t go again though.

Melia Cayo Coco: Amazing resort!!
The lagoon room we had was great, with beautiful sunsets and a lovely veranda overlooking the water. The food in the buffet was fresh and plentiful with lots of different types to choose from. All the other eating areas were also very good and easily accessible. We really enjoyed the music in the lounge each evening and the drinks were also very good.We loved the beach and the water was so warm .The beach bar was very handy. We loved everything about this resort and will return again.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Ok resort.
The resort needs a lot of work. Buffet area needs equipment update. The food was always cold. Rooms were ok, could use some updating. Bathroom by the beach attached to restaurant was disgusting all the time. The smell was horrendous. Al la cartes were not great. The beach was incredible, the best I have ever seen. I know its Cuba but s little up keep and TLC would go a long way. Clean up all the live wires hanging out everywhere. Definitely not a 4 1/2 Star. It is a 3 1/2 at best.

Melia Las Dunas: Fabulous!
We loved this resort! It was our 5th trip to Cayo Santa Maria but our first stay in Las Dunas. Fantastic a la cartes ( especially the Oriental) and Rosy at the spa is a sweetheart. Our only drawback was maid service. We weren't cleaned a couple of times and our water wasn't refilled several times. I don't clean my room at home everyday and I can make my own bed, but toilet paper and water are important! The beach was as amazing as always.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Not the Best Trip
I will start with saying I will never travel with Sunwing again. The trip began with poor check-in service at Pearson, followed by very slow in flight service. Our trip was supposed to be a direct flight but when our electronic tickets were sent, it was discovered there would be a stop in Camaguey before going on to Santa Clara, I wasn't too concerned as I thought it must be on the way but turns out it added over 2-1/2 hrs to our travel time. What happened on our trip to Cuba was the biggest iss[... read more]ue, we were forced to disembark the aircraft and were told we were going to a holding area but was actually forced to go through the Cuban security where stuff from our flight was confiscated. Luckily for us it was just snacks and unopened pop, others lost duty free items purchased in Toronto. Our trip home seemed a little more seamless as we had to return via Camaguey, as we departed from Santa Clara there were open seats in the Emergency Exit isle, I asked if my wife and I could sit there until Camaguey but was told I wasn't allowed as they were an additional cost to sit there, I said that was fine but the same flight attendant then minutes later allowed a woman who was ahead of us whose husband was sitting in the very same row behind us to move and sit with him for that part of the flight. The issue I have is that after Camaguey 2 of those seats were still available and they then moved another passenger from the front extra leg room seats to 1 of them, making it impossible for anyone else to have an opportunity to sit there. The problem here is that on day 2 of our trip, I attempted to book seats in the Exit Rows and was told by the Sunwing Rep there was none available. Food on the return flight was very limited and what was available (pizza) was not edible, and that's coming from Cuba.
As for Melia Cayo Santa Maria, the staff in the resort and the Cuban people we met were fantastic, the maid service was great, Janice is so nice. The resort is fairly clean and the grounds are well kept. The pool and beach areas are always well maintained and the fellas bringing the lounge chairs work tirelessly. Public washrooms are well maintained except for the lack of bathroom tissue. The bartenders, servers and all kitchen staff are always fun and happy to serve you. Unfortunately the food was very mediocre and had no variety from day to day. The pasta chef and meat and fish chef Freddy were the most popular, as was the Japanese alacarte which could have been offered more as there were several nights where it wasn't full. The worst part of the trip for us was the bed in our room, and it seemed apparent it was a resort/Cuba wide issue. The mattress we had and then was exchanged for the same, was very poor quality. We could feel the springs digging into our body. It wasn't until after I took apart a day bed cushion made up of 2 four inch pieces of foam and put them on the bed were we able to get a somewhat decent night's sleep. Other than this, the resort was nice. The entertainment was good on certain nights, I just wish they would use the theatre for more of the performances, the lobby just isn't the best place for a Rock Band to play, although they were awesome.
The beach was quite beautiful although the weather was not the best, during our 14 day stay we only got in the ocean 4 times, it rained several days, was cold several days and it was windy all but 1 day. Cayo Santa Maria is a great area as long as your not planning on doing anything outside of the resort and we knew that going there. Excursions that don't last 10 or more hours are very limited but worth the trip.
All in all the trip was ok, a good bed, a little variance in the meals in the buffet and a hassle free flight could have made it a great trip.
We met several people who have returned many times, 1 couple has been 22 times and they said this year was the worst in all aspects but I guess it must be worth going back, just not for us.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: A nice older resort with the excellent staff!
The rooms were decent for the price. Air conditioning worked very well. The food was decent for the price we paid. The beach and bars were EXCELLENT! The staff was very friendly, and they were very appreciative of the gifts we brought. I would go back again just for the beach and booze!
