The Hotel was Ok, the room was nice and very clean, service was nice too. Food was very good, but lack of variety in the morning. Not enough bowls and cups in the morning. Same for some fruits. The pools are ok but no ambiance, no animation during the day, it was all at the beach. The beach is very small and not much of sand, most of the chairs where on the grass. Not much to do around. Small shops downtown, but most of them closed or open at specific hours only. Will not go back to Samana (Las [... read more]Galeras), we were very disappointed.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Beautiful Resort! Friendly Staff! Loved it!!
This resort was divine. I would definitely go to this resort again. The grounds were beautiful and everyone was so friendly. The beach was beautiful, although the vendors on the beach tried to sell you things constantly, it was as easy as saying no thank you. The food was so delicious.

Its was sunny and hot with a few refreshing showers late day. Walk the path to the right and find the Buffet, that has different fare/nightly theme: Mexican, Italian w/ a layered drink, French w/champagne, Brazilian, Dominican. Try the Asian a la carte, it is very tasty & entertaining, avoid the Gourmet. Passed the buffet is a large pool a 24hr snack bar adjacent. The best ocean to swim in the Dominican, been to Punta Cana Dreams & Grand Paradise & Bahia Ambar ****as well as Samana Grand Paradise***. Walk up the beach and pass 2 sets of vendors right on the beach, best buys at those farthest away. Its a nice walk and allows you to see other resorts. Punta Cana Princess: A great week!
We stayed at the Punta Cana Princess from March 6 – 13th, as a couple, looking for relaxation!! We never left the resort! Maria from TripCentral had indicated that the resort was getting a little older and may be starting to show its age. She was right. The walls of the room were a little marked, there was a crack in the glass enclosure of the shower, and the toilet seat had been replaced by a new one that wasn’t quite the right size – but hey, we were in Punta Cana, so who really cares? O[... read more]nce I got over that I was not at the more luxury resort I considered going to, I had a great time and enjoyed everything about the vacation. The food was good, although not “fine diningâ€, but you cannot beat Dominican cheese, and I ate it at every meal!! The bar drinks were OK, but we were not there to party and more importantly, there was always lots of bottled water available in our room, and at the bars. There was entertainment in the lobby each evening, which was fun, but not of the caliber I have seen elsewhere. Apparently there was a larger stage with bigger shows at the other Princess Resorts, which we could have ridden the trolley to see, but there was no information available to tell us what was on each day. Overall, we enjoyed the beauty of the beach, the pool and the weather. We always had enough to eat at the buffet or the “a la cartesâ€. We met some nice vacationers to chat and have a drink with. The resort was clean, the staff were friendly, and it was a week away from the Canadian winter!!

Grand Palladium Palace: Beautiful resort
The Grand Palladium Palace is a beautiful, well maintained resort. The beach front is gorgeous, and there were always ample beach chairs to choose from. The beach bars were convenient and the mid-day BBQ offering was great. The pools are very nice, and again there were a lot of beach chairs available.
For an all inclusive resort, the food was quite good. The breakfast choices were ample, but I do wish that breakfast was offered later than 10am. There are next to no options between 10am and 12pm[... read more] in terms of food, so if you miss breakfast you're out of luck.
The main complaint I have about the resort is the a la carte dining system. There are MANY a la carte choices, but unless you pay the upgrade fee to be in the Royal Suites, you cannot make reservations. This meant lining up each evening to give our names to the hostess and then waiting sometimes an hour to get a table. Also, the food at each restaurant didn't always match the theme (for example turkky breast with cranberries at the Mexican restaurant).
I should also mention the beautiful sports facilities - tennis courts, badminton, volleyball and soccer, as well as a decent sized gym.
Overall it was a great experience. We had some great service, and some service that was not helpful nor friendly, but I think that is more a cultural issue.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Hotel very old, service very poor, ocean amazing
If you planning your vacation, and have extra $200-300, please choose something different. This is very old resorts (half hotel under construction),rooms not modern, fridge rusted, condition not working or working a little bit. When I asked to change room, manager on duty told me-you got what you paid for, which is not true. Sanctuary Cap Cana Luxury Collection Adults Resort: Tipping NOT included
I have rated Sanctuary Cap Cana "fair" because this is the first resort I have been to where you are pressured to tip even though the resort is advertised as tipping being included. I always tip anyway and understand that you will be served better if you do. The problem I have is you are given a bill at the end of your meals at the restaurants and sometimes at the bars. The bill lists what they have as being the cost of meals etc but then provide a total of $0 due (which is fine). There is conve[... read more]niently a line on the bill for a tip that would be charged directly to your room. When we arrived at the hotel were were told that we would be receiving these bills but they would be a zero value. The reason given was for "administrative purposes". If this was truly for tracking purposes then it would be done 100% of the time, which it is not.
Please do away with this process and simply have the waiter or bartender just say "tip me now" after you are served.
We tipped cash every time but found ourselves being ignored as the week progressed. Interesting that you pay a lot to stay in a room with a walk out pool yet get poor service.
A pity that such a foolish system to coerce guests into tipping can result in such a poor rating that I have given.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Average
Please note - I take an all inclusive trip with the girls once a year and have visited ten all inclusive resorts in various areas of the Carribean. The Barcelo is showing its age. Rooms are roomy but damp and old. The restaurants are okay. Same old food being recycled at the buffet. The buffet has limited fruits and the selection gets tiresome. The beach is nice. Plenty of chairs and great for walking. The vendors are always around but you get used to it. I am not a very picky person. I look for[... read more] a good beach, clean rooms and good food. I would not go back to the Barcelo. There are much nicer/better resorts along this strip. We had the misfortune to be at the resort where the S trip kids-(March break -17-18 yr olds - aprox 200 teens) were this year. Wow. Loud, obnoxious and drunk. Everything smelled like vomit after the first day. The next time I book an all inclusive the first question will be if the resort is part of the S trip booking.

Punta Cana Princess: great relaxing vacation spot!
Been to this resort before and was pleasantly surprised at the changes! Comfortable size with everything easily accessible. Rooms are updated and comfortable and well equipped. Staff very friendly and accommodating.... food is decent, you will find something you like at the buffets. Visited the Italian restaurant twice...well worth trying. The wine and liquor are my only real complaints...like most resorts, it needs some major attention (I guess the price you pay for all Inclusives) . The ground[... read more]s are lovely and very nicely maintained. Wifi is sloooww! But is free in the lobby and available at a cost in the rooms. We return to Punta Cana because of the consistent weather and the beaches...great value for such beautiful water!

Catalonia Royal Bavaro: Wonderful getaway!!!!
My husband and myself enjoyed our vacation so much. The grounds were beautiful and people were very friendly. The people who work there are so genuine. Yes some have trouble understanding English but then again my Spanish is not great. If you try they will try. Was never a problem!!! Grand Palladium Palace: Overall a good break
Our experience on the day of arrival was disappointing. We waited additional 21/2 hrs after check in time for our room key only to walk in to a room already occupied! We were told "that is your room, have the bell boy remove the luggages in the room"! We insisted to be assigned another room instead. The service in general is average however the resort and the beach are fantastic. We find the food quality of the a la carte restaurants average so we dined at the buffet restaurants many times over.

Secrets Royal Beach: Overall satisfactory!
Like all places I make the best of where I go. The room was great and very clean. The staff was really nice and great service. As an adult resort would have enjoyed more action but the fact that there was a resort right beside with a disco I managed to get my dancing in LOL. The food was very good except for a couple dishes, but great variety and fresh. Loved the grill at noon and the paella was phenomenal.
Two main issues, 1) With the money you pay I really think you should have free internet, [... read more]I get it everywhere else. 2) I went as a single person and paid quite a bit as there were no single supplements and really did not like being pushed to have the preferred member status, if you want a butler, go somewhere where it is part of the package and the wine, if we get premium alcohol, why would we have to pay for wine at dinner if we want a better bottle then the one offered that day at the resort? Just have a selection of 15 wines of each colour and let people choose. Met some great people as usual and really enjoyed the experience.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Not horrible
The room that we were put in (1216) was the last room on the edge of the property. It was an oceanfront room. It was very dated but was clean. The maids always maintained it so, we wouldn't complain about this.
However, the rooms are adjoining and you can hear "everything" from the room next door. I could have been part of their conversations as I heard every word. (And other things)
Beach was not the best. It wasn't maintained very well. We saw workers out there every morning but, the seaweed w[... read more]as never fully cleared. Also, very trivial but by our room the beach was not used (no deck chairs) so, it was never cleaned up.
The a la carte restaurants were the best food. Buffet seemed to be the same things daily. We always found something to eat but, were happy to get home.
Mexican restaurant was VERY slow though. It took 2 1/2 hours to have 3 courses.
Wifi was an additional charge and can ONLY be paid in cash. This we needed as our children were not with us so we needed to be able to communicate back home.
Also, the safe in the room was an additional charge ($3 per day). I did not agree with this but had to pay it as well.
All in all, it was an ok vacation. We enjoyed the vitamin D when the clouds were not there and the entertainment staff were excellent.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Not a bad resort .
It is not a bad resort . The food selection was just right. The room was clean and spacious. The service was good . There was no delay of getting what you want . The check in and check out was fast. When we checked in our room was ready not like the other five star resorts that guest have to wait before they can get in to their rooms . The only thing that I can say that it needs improvement are the chairs on the beach. They should have more and probably get new ones coz some of them are broken a[... read more]nd good ones are taken early . The other issue is the stairs . They do not have elevators. If you have difficulty climbing up then request the villas. The person that should be commented for their hard work are the housekeeping and Carlos the bellboy. If you want a quiet place to go, this resort is for you. The only thing it is quite a distance from the airport but it was ok for the drive.
