The grounds were absolutely beautiful, the food at the buffet was good but the a la carte restaurant food and service was even better. The rooms were not very nice, outdated and the freezer in the fridge was broken and the mirror in the bathroom was also broke. There were also not enough beach/pool chairs to accommodate all the guests at the resort. Aside from that we had a great experience! The rock climbing and trapeze was fun! The massages at the spa were excellent. The beach is amazing and y[... read more]ou can walk for miles!

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Great resort!
This is a very large complex so it may not be for everyone.
However it was a fantastic "fit" for us
Staying in the adults only Ambar section gives you the coziness of a smaller resort but you are minutes away/tram ride away from the selection of restaurants and entertainment that the adjoining properties offer.
We stayed on the Ambar 1 section and would do so again. We were close to the beach and pool as well as the lobby and a good selection of restaurants to eat at. The room was spacious and [... read more]clean and we were comfortable and happy with it.
The food was very good. Better than expected actually.
The beach was beautiful, great swimming.
We took the advice of others and emailed our dinner requests about two weeks ahead of our trip. We we arrived they had booked four restaurants for us. We quickly went to guest services as we wanted a la carte dinner for all seven night and they were more than happy to accommodate us with the other three nights.
This resort exceeded our expectations and we would return again!

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Very nice resort.
Beautifull property, nice beach with lots of room. Friendly staff with good bar service at the beach and pool. Only dissappointment was with the room, we requested upper floor , pool view, with 1 king bed. We were given a ground floor , garden view with 2 double beds and a connecting door to the adjacent room where a baby cried most of the first night. In fairness we had booked last minute and they moved us to an upper floor, pool view after 3 nights. Try to get a room without the connecting doo[... read more]r if possible

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Beautiful resort and a nice stay but only 4 stars
My wife and I stayed at this resort from Feb. 22 to Mar. 1, 2015. We had a really late check in (12h30 am) since our plane was late coming in from Toronto. The check in went really smoothly and we had our room in short order.
We did request a room change however since our room didn't have a real shower, just a hand-held in the Jacuzzi tub. We got transferred to another room on the 3rd floor (#51218) without any hassle at all.
Rooms are spacious and clean. Maids are friendly...as are most of th[... read more]e staff. The grounds are just beautiful and kudos go out to the staff for such great work!!
We spent a lot of time at the beach however did not go swimming because the water was not appealing (brownish) and there are jellyfish...both of which we knew ahead of time. There are plenty of palapas at the beach and we never had any problems getting loungers there...in the afternoon, we would migrate to the pool area..a bit harder to find a spot in the shade for me..
Premium drinks were available, just not all the time...for example, I drink Crown Royal and it was available only 3 separate days. Not a big selection of drinks available at the pool bars.
The food at the buffet was good but a lot of the previous comments are accurate....because of these comments,we were careful to take food that had recently been taken out, nothing with creamy sauces, or stuff that looked lukewarm...neither my wife or I got sick per say, just a bout of upset stomach for about a day or so..could be the booze or the food (or both)..they give hand sanitizer to everyone entering the restaurants/buffets which is a good thing..as long as it's consistent...
We ate at three à la carte restaurants, the French (Le Gourmet) was by far the best of the three (others were Il Capricio and Garden Grill Steakhouse). We even had some momahuana with our server at Le Gourmet..food was great there, give it a try!
We had a good time here and relaxed, which is what we needed...yes the lounge closes at 11pm so if you want nightlife, this is not the place for you...you can go next door to the other side of the resort.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Fantastic Stay
Fantastic time at the VH. It was our first time at this resort from the moment we checked in to our sad goodbyes it was a great week. The rooms were clean and welcoming with a bar fridge stocked daily with water, pop, and beers of course. There are two pools at this resort one is a quiet pool of you wanted a nice quiet relaxing day with a bar near by, and the main pool had music swim up bar with entertainment hourly.
The food was always fresh and delicious, we tried all three a la cartes the It[... read more]alian and beach grill were my favourite. There was a snack bar and drinks available daily until 2 am so you never went hungry .
The VH had the the nicest, cleanest beach out of the complex. It was cleaned daily and there were always chairs available. There are vendors on the beach, they were friendly and all you have to say is no thank you and they will not bother you again
All and all it was a fun resort to visit, there isn't a lot of night life it does get quiet after the nightly entertainment comes to end. But that doesn't mean you have to end your night. You are able to sit out grab drinks and hang out around the bar or in the lobby.
I recommend this resort to all ages and we will defiantly be back!!!!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great retreat from the cold
I was a little hesitant to commit myself to go after reading a few reviews but all the problems were just not there. Buffets were good with a large selection of food for just about everyone.Hotel was a little dated perhaps from the nineties or so but was very very clean and the quality of service staff was above average. The language barrier was a problem but it is their country and efforts were made by everyone to communicate and understand each other.Grounds were immaculate and very well tende[... read more]d.Ocean was very wavy, choppy and had a large amount of seaweed but small clumps and water was warm,I think the weeds were because we were on the north side of the island and it couldn't be helped.Lawn chairs were a problem as ALL people were putting their towels on the chair and using them or hoarding them all day for only an hour or so of use. The secret to getting one is to get out and up between 6 or 7 am and stick a towel on a chair for yourself and then go back to bed. This is a problem whenever you go to any resort or cruise ship.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: amazing vacation
My group consisted of 2 couples ages 24-29. We arrived on March 5, 2015 around 11pm and we're greeted with a welcome drink at check in. The hotel reception were very nice and got us to our rooms within 20 minutes. Our rooms were located in Beata building and we thought this was to our advantage as it was quiet at night. Rooms could use some updating but for us who were only in there to sleep it wasn't a big deal for us. We waited for our luggage to be delivered to our room for about 10 minutes a[... read more]nd while we waited took advantage of the mini bar in the room stocked daily with beer, pop, and Water. Room was nice enough for us, bed were a little uncomfortable but wasn't a big deal what we slept on after a day of drinking by the pool. Our shower had very little pressure and the bar fridge leaked puddles of water all over the floor everyday, but again we were not very critical nor did we care. Our room faced the quiet pool and it was very nice to sit on the porch and have a drink every night before dinner. Bugs were not really an issue for us in the room, however while we were there our room was fumigated twice in 3 days and a few of my girlfriends lip glosses and make up brushes went missing. Again not a deal breaker for us as we were just happy to be in paradise. The a LA carte restaurants were awesome and we ate at the octopus, ocean grill, and Italien. Italien was by far our favorite. The wine isn't the best, but you can get better for a price. The buffet was awesome for breakfast and we all pretty much ate omlettes every morning for breakfast, those guys are awesome. Lunch wasn't very good at the buffet and dinner was hit and miss. We ate lunch mostly every day at the ocean grill as they had a wider selection of food but again most of the time was the same food everyday. The pizza and quesadillas were amazing though. Beach was fantastic. we walked the whole thing both ways and the vh by far has the nicest spot with lots of beach chairs to choose from. Vendors were a little annoying but you get to know them by name and they become quite friendly and will leave you alone if you are polite to them. They are just trying to make a living and people need to understand that. The staff at the resort were awesome. The water aerobics were fun to watch, but it was alot of the same dance routines every single day. Pool bartenders Franklin and Jonas were by far our favorite. Those guys definitely deserve some credit and appreciation. So personable and friendly. Drinks were good but again got tiring. If you wanted something different to drink you could pay for it at the vip fidelity club. We liked the drinks because they made them strong and would have them ready for us most of the time right when we finished a previous drink they would be pouring the next. Dangerous. Haha. The entertainment at night was by far the worst thing about the resort. Just repetitive and boring. First night merengue was fun. African show was weird and creepy. They need to step their game up in that regard. New material. The problem for us was pretty much everything shut down around 1030. No club or disco on site and much of the Playa Dorado mall closed down it made it hard to find something to do at night and we found ourselves bores and trying to sneak onto the other resorts. Pool bar is open until midnight and buffet open until 2 am that will serve drinks as Well. Wasn't huge deal for us but being in bed at 11 every night got kind of boring. Pool was awesome, there were daily games of pool volleyball and every one of the entertainment staff were very friendly. Shout out to bon Jovi, Carlos santana, and coco who were responsible for handling most of the events throughout the day. They were awesome in grabbing people for fun games. I won a few and they most of the time reward you with coffee or booze. No big complaints overall it was an awesome vacation and stay. We would definitely come back but towards the end we did find ourselves getting bored as daily activities were repetitive. We loved the pool and beach and drinks even though they were lower class alcohol but we didn't care. We will definitely be recommending this resort. Ya it needs some improvements but they try really hard to be accommodating and it went a long way for us. Thanks for a great vacation !!!

Occidental Punta Cana: Awesome Resort for Sun & Sand.
The Occidental in Punta Cana was perfect in every way. Large clean rooms with comfortable king size beds. Amazing food buffets with four excellent a la carte restaurants. Immaculate grounds and a "beyond beautiful" beach. Loved every minute in the sunshine. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The Transat Plus extras were worth the extra money. Can't say enough about our awesome week in the Dominican. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great time
The hotel was clean, the food was great, staff was outstanding, the shows and al la cartes were amazing, entertainers were amazing. I would tell people to go to this resort if you have the chance. Made a lot of friends here!!!!
We stayed at the Barcelo Dominican Beach March 4- March 11, and were extremely happy with our stay. We traveled with 3 couples and were impressed right off the bat when checking in they were able to get us all king size beds, even though our package was for doubles. We stayed in block 7, the room was great, ac worked perfectly, water pressure a little weak. The grounds are impeccably kept, music on all the pathways. 3 different buffets, 5 a la carte ( food was good no complaints and a big select[... read more]ion) the cafe is amazing - surprised you don't have to pay extra...the drinks in general were all right...found the vodka to taste a bit like tequila, so maybe stick to rum, or buy a bottle at the supermarket like we did. We spent our time on the beach and had to get up at a decent time to get chairs, but the American spring break was going on so I believe it was busier then normal. The grounds are large enough that we could avoid their mayhem :) the pool seemed more difficult for chairs but we didn't spend much time there. There's 3 pools, we liked the far quiet one :) I had a massage at the spa, highly recommended , Nullie was awesome !! Overall, we were looking for a good deal, and were really impressed considering this is a 3.5 star. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Resort
Resort was very good. Clean, food was good, staff were very friendly. Had a good time. The drinks were also very good. Being an all inclusive resort, it gave us the chance to try different food and drinks. The beach was also very nice. It was ok for swimming, but the week we were there was quite windy, so you had to be aware of the undertow if you were not a strong swimmer. There were lots of loungers, so getting one was not a problem.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Spend a little more and go somewhere else!
The grounds at this resort are immaculate. In my opinion the resort is under staffed which sometimes makes them a little cranky. The buffett and the pool/swim up bar seem to be under staffed the whole time we were there. The buffett food was the same every day. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was in Cuba. The food was of poor quality(worse than What I've had in Cuba). Several times the same dishes could be seen at breakfast, lunch and diner.
The animation team did a great job day [... read more]and night and if you didn't want to participate they didn't push you.
The ocean is very murky and you couldn't see 6 inches into the water. Yes there are jelly fish in the water everywhere you go. One day I walked along the beach and counted more than 30 jellyfish swimming near the waters edge. Several of them washed on shore and you really had to watch were you walked.
As for the beach, well we sat on the beach for one day and I counted close to 50 sandflee bites on one leg. During the week I noticed several people with there legs covered in bites. The beach is infested with flees. We spent the rest of the week by the pool.
I will say this there are more than enough loungers and you don't have to get up at 7am to save them.
Overall I would not recommend this resort because of the sand flees, the ocean and the quality of food. I have been going to the Caribbean for more than 15 years now and this was the worst resort I have been to.
We travelled February 23 to March 01 2015. During this time there were several people getting sick and at least one taken to hospital . Don't know the cause but my educated guess would be the food. Prior to leaving for the D.R. I too an over the counter med called ProKPlus. We had no sickness but watched what we ate.

Adult only, peaceful, clean upgraded rooms with free wi-fi and excellent service. Check in was a breeze with Edwin (amazing customer service), no towel game to play, just change them when you need to with a swim up bar or great poolside service for drinks. They could use a few more "signs", as we did a few extra loops walking, looking for places. Booking a la cartes was easy. The spa is a lovely way to spend the end of the day or get out of sun for awhile. Say hi to Rubin at the pool bar! We stayed an extra hour and took a taxi to airport for $35 US.
