Paradisus Varadero: Nice resort aging now.
Resort was nice but it’s getting older and needs plumbing work on it’s ocean view rooms. They booked us into a flooded room for our first night which was a bit scary as we arrived at midnight. We had to move a second time due to our toilet flooding. Many Miskitos here as well. The staff are all nice.

Melia Marina Varadero: Stay Away From This Resort, Not A 5 Star
Stay Apr 15-22
This resort definitely not a 5 star as advised. The food and service were horrible, breakfast, lunch and dinner were the same in the buffet, the over cooked chicken wings, pumpkin, cabbage and the white beans. I never ate this much pumpkin and cabbage in my life, though there were grilled fish for 3 nights, and grilled chicken breast nightly, I'm not a white meat fan, so never tried the grilled chicken, the fish was good, this is the only food I like, but long line up. There a[... read more]lso a pasta place so you can order pasta. One think I don't understand is why we cannot carry a purse or backpack in the buffet, they afraid we will steal the food in the bag? This place need lots of maintenance, one night was raining, I was waiting for the pasta, and water was leaking from the ceiling, I was complaining loud to myself that I can't believe it this is a 5 star resort, then a lady over heard me and started to complain her room no hot water, toilet paper, and the water is not draining. luckily our toilet was broken only once, and got fixed, but the phone was not working, we reported, but never got fixed. It was a hassle that we had to walk to the front desk to reset the wifi every time when it exceeded the 5 hours limit. The so call mini bar had 2 cokes and a big bottle of water. One morning we were still sleeping, the guy knocked on the door to drop off the cokes and water, he didn't wait for our permission to allow him to enter and he just walked in. I was so mad and complaint at the front desk, then never received the water and cokes again. There was 1 a la carte restaurant every night, but you cannot booked in advance, you need to book in the morning and only 40 seats available. The front desk said they starting to take order at 8, and everybody was waiting and the person didn't show up after 9. If you come late, you're out of luck. It was a terrible experience in the restaurant, we didn't get served for 1/2 hour after we got seated, not even a water and manual. We were looking at them walking by without an acknowledgement. I was running out of patience and shouted out loud for service, then got their attention. After we ordered, another 1/2 hour for the food, and it came so slow between the appetizer, entree, and dessert. The food was so bad, all I can taste is salty, I just had 1 bite, didn't wait for the dessert and left. This is my first time in Cuba, and do not have high expectation for the food, but kind of surprised to receive this lousy service, tips cannot motivate them. Basically everyone we met no one is satisfied with this resort. We will not return to this resort ever again.
They offered free drinks at the beach, and the beach was gorgeous, that's the only think I like about Cuba.

Sol Palmeras: Lovely Resort
We went mid-April 2023. Enjoyed the long walks on beautiful beach. The nightly entertainment was really good. In the dining buffet room, the staff was courteous and friendly. Lots to do: kayaking, sailboat, pedal boats,
We had a standard room: very clean but furniture is dated. Overall we were satisfied. Would go back.

Iberostar Origin Tainos: Amazing Resort with Icing Sugar Beach
Majority of Staff are fabulous...rooms are clean. Food was good. A few meals were great.
Front desk staff are helpful. After Canadians the next nationality would be Russians, Brits then other Europeans.
Smoking is unfortunately very prevalent in Cuba.
Great place for a week of fun in the sun!!!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Don't go
I just got back from this resort a few days ago.Im not sure what has happen to cuba but I don't remember the rudeness and lack of food.I could always find something to eat but not this time..It was terrible. Japanese the best. But only al le carts allowed.. Rooms were out dated. Maid was lazy skipped days of cleaning and never changed bedding. I love cuba but this was the worst.

Sol Palmeras: Good stay
Stay was from April 2nd-9th 2023
Upon arrival my husband and I noticed that the lobby was dark and uninviting and there was no one to greet us. We've stayed at many all inclusive resorts in the last 15 years and were always greeted and given complimentary drinks and we did not have that experience here.
But what I really appreciated was when we were displeased with our initial room the concierge at the front desk "Flex" gave a new room with no issue.
In terms of the food I appreciated the [... read more]variety that the a la carte had. The buffet dining area needed more space between tables but the food itself I'd give 4 /5.
The beach and the water were both breathtaking! and the accessibility was easy.
The entertainment was phenomenal, especially the night shows in the pool! It had both myself and my husband grinning from ear to ear and giddy to see the spectacles.
I booked myself a massage and I was disappointed with the session, it was absolutely terrible. The atmosphere didn't feel professional, the masseuse played music from her phone and the environment felt cluttered and closed in. The spa needs to be updated, it did not feel like a spa in any regard, there were no candles and no ambiance of any kind. The masseuse also was in a rush to go home so she didn't give me a satisfying massage.
In the middle of our week we were walking in the hotel and stumbled upon a customer service office where the employees that worked there were kind and we really appreciated their attentiveness to how we felt about our trip so far.
For the most part the staff was friendly and tended to our needs.
In terms of the room service, the fridge was never restocked with pop only water and when we made that aware to the staff they had assured us that they would restock but they never did.
I'm not sure if everyone was new but the front desk employees need more training in customer service. When we were checking out and returning our keycards there was not a care in the world of how our stay went or questions about how we felt about our stay.

Beautiful resort but needs a lot of work, special the rooms. The snorkeling was excellent and close to shore. The grounds were very well kept ..
Over all very relaxing and low key vacation, this place may not be a good fit for those that want to be on the go all the time but this is the perfect place for relaxing.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Disappointing trip
After being there six times I find this hotel has completely fallen apart. The service is not what it used to be in the hotel itself is not what it used to be picking in choosing what days they would have bread available and just “pour people skills by a lot of the staff expecting tips and window tips were given no service was given you get tips from service not before service is given. This hotel was very good to us in the past but this time around we found it very disappointing. I only hope [... read more]that they take this information and bring them selves back to the resort that I used to know them to be, a lot of lights out on a lot of bathrooms in the main resort with no toilet seats on them. We love this resort. We had not been for 3 years due to Covid. On our recent return we noticed a lot of positive changes. The grounds were beautifully maintained. Grand Memories Varadero: Mediocre resort
The hotel room was very outdated and needed repairs. There was a severe musty smell and the door lock was not working and our third floor flooded the second day we were there. Not very impressed it was stressful the first two days, after complaining with customer service we were upgraded to the diamond service. We struggled to have clean towels every day and we had to use the same beach towel for three straight days which was not acceptable. When attended the pool towel station we were told no[... read more] clean towels keep the one you have. Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Good Times!!
This is my favourite hotel. I have stayed here many times before Covid and three times since. Of course things have changed over the years not just the name. The management of this hotel are visible, helpful and very professional.
The return of full time staff is slim but they work with who they have to do their best. The rooms are clean, towels and linen are fresh daily. I’m not sure what has taken place with the air system but the a/c wasn’t great, could be that there is shortage of gase[... read more]s at this time or the compressor was down. Who knows!!The fan was working. Chlorine is another shortage right now but the pools were clean and warm for a swim. Bar staff are amazing at making drinks of many tastes with what was available. The food is plentiful in all categories, bread and buns are my favourite and yes there was butter every time.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Very pretty resort but it needs some refreshing ....
This was my first time to Cuba and I while I would return to Cuba I will not be returning to this resort.
The rooms are 'tired' and in need of some repairs, just too many small deficiencies for me. Everyone seems to say ' Well thats Cuba ' and accept everything but it seems that if you are paying a certain amount of money, certain things should be there or working. Maybe its just me :)
You asked about Covid adaptations, none were obvious to me. The main buffet was as usual pre Covid. T[... read more]he utensils were messy and noone was there that we could see cleaning or replacing them, and it was only at the grilling station that things were put on our plate (as usual)
Everything is just in short supply it seems (and I can't say if its worse than pre Covid or just the norm)
I couldn't find any disinfectant dispensers on the walls that were stocked if I wanted to put some disinfectant on my hands. The ones I saw were empty. Having said that, I had brought my own and we didn't get sick.
While at a previous resort in Punta Cana, they had a staff member opening doors and cleaning handles, and asking us to put hand disinfectant on (which they put on our hands while entering) I had expected this but didn't see it so I don't know if its a staffing issue or whether Covid just isn't there and so they don't worry about it.
The first day I showered ( and each day after ) I flooded the room and out into the hallway. Same thing with our friends in the room next door. When we mentioned it to someone, they said " they all do that " Unfortunately this is the wrong answer. Its a safety issue. We had 2 towels and one tiny bath mat which we had to use to put on the floor to walk so we didn't slip and fall. While we were sitting in the Sanctuary reception area one day an older couple came in and were quite upset because their room was flooded and they were trying to get things fixed. They were afraid of falling and there were no other rooms available to move to that day.
Its the shower doors, they are glass and warped and the rubber seal doesn't seal so that water just runs out the door. This is common apparently when speaking with others. Also, until the afternoon, there was no hot water. While we were there I had heard of hot water issues in a few buildings. Maybe they heat the water by solar heat, I don't know but its frustrating.
It would have been nice to have a 3rd towel or smaller hand towel to put my hair in after the shower also. We took facecloths because I knew they might not be available but I didn't think I needed to bring towels.
The food was what I expected, not alot of variety and bland but I knew that going in. The soups are quite good, the fruit was plentiful and tons of the staples of rice and beans. You won't go hungry. The red and white wine served at the Sanctuary a la carte is good and from Spain. Great Sangria too! We ate most lunches at the buffet near the beach and one day had a hot dog at the BBQ on the beach path. The drinks are plentiful but not consistent. It would be helpful to have a drink menu but I understand that supply is low and what they have one day they may not have the next day. But if you like going to resorts for the drinks, you might be disappointed.
We had reservations for each of the a la cartes, but after going to the French restaurant and the Oriental restaurant and being served neither French or Oriental food (its the same food, chicken and pork everywhere ) we asked for our reservations to be cancelled at the others and to be moved back to the Sanctuary restaurant which was really the best restaurant anyhow.
The staff is wonderful. They try very hard and do their best. Overall everyone is very pleasant and happy. The entertainment crew was alot of fun and do their very best. They are very appreciative of anything you give them whether its a money tip or items you bring for them. They need things like shoes, clothing and medical supplies. We tipped bartenders, servers, maids, entertainment crew, etc in US dollar bills and Canadian 5.00 bills. Dont forget your golf cart drivers, gardeners, guys at the grills
The beach was beautiful, the water clear and mostly calm as you would expect. We could always find loungers for our party of 6 and Alex was on duty bringing drinks or moving loungers around to accomodate. He was fantastic.
The pool is a different story. Its a small pool in the Sanctuary compared to the other 2 pools. So there isn't alot of room for loungers or chairs and people claim them by 4 am and you never get a place to put your things even if you want to go in the pool. We spent very little time enjoying the pool because of this. So if you're a pool person, good luck finding a place unless you want to be one of those people going out and saving a lounger at the crack of crazy in the morning.
All in all we had a fun time because, after all, a vacation is what you make it. Just consider the small things about a resort before you book so that you aren't disappointed.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Great resort
As this was our very first trip to Cuba we had a wonderful time at this resort. The people were very friendly and the property is beautiful. Our concierge Jenny was so helpful. As there are supply chain issue to all of Cuba I believe they were able to do a great job with food. There was no great variety but they really took the time to make it look good and there was plenty of it.

Hotel Bella Costa: Wonderful people
We go to the Iberostar Bella Costa for the people who work there. Also it's easy access to Varadero. The ocean is wonderful. The rooms are fine and food is ok.The economy is very bad in Cuba. Less food and supplies for the hotels. For the first time the airport check in was awful it took over 2 hours. Overall we had a great time and would go back.
