We were welcomed with cool moist towels, wonderful. Check in was a breeze. A Rep. explained how things worked in our room and chocolate dipped strawberries and chilled champagne awaited us in room. The bed was very comfortable and large. Everything worked but TV satellite reception cut out sometimes for 20 - 30 seconds every 1-2 hours.
Staff was very friendly. Room service was excellent but time done altered a lot each day.
Food was exceptional, the best ever in an all inclusive resort. Buffet[... read more] was fresh and hot with 3 fresh cook to order areas. Fresh squeezed juices every AM with 8 - 10 different types each day. 4 A la Carte Restaurants with gourmet meals served. Service in Restaurants was inconsistent. Some days was exceptional others was only average. They did work on this and improved to very good to excellent by end of trip. Beach was nice sand but water unsafe to swim. Just a 10 minute walk up the beach was safe to swim though. Night life was quiet with some live and some DJ music. Sports bar with sports televised daily and music later PM for dancing. Lots of alcohol choices, but limited wine choices unless you pay extra, lots extra. Only full bottles were sold and at $65-$120
per bottle I found that excessive. The house wine was a nice French wine (red, white, rose). No hussling was done which we found welcoming. Only negative was the airport pick up going home. The time was moved up by 40 minutes on the day of without notifying anyone, then the other hotel we picked up guests we had to wait 30 - 35 minutes for missing people, probably due to change in time for them as well. Construction started next door for a new hotel part way through our stay and was noisy at times. I'd wait about a year for the construction to be completed before returning. We enjoyed the resort and will return.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Big but great!!
This resort is absolutely gogeous! The vegetation of the grouds is out of this world. The food at the buffet is good, a lot of vaiety. Thr restaurannts A la carte: we ate at El Pescador, the Mikado (japanese), the Garden Grill and Il Cappricio...they wera all very good. The rooms are clean and a nice size. The main pool near the beach...WOW! Royalton Splash Punta Cana: Two week family trip
We just got back from our two week stay at Memories Splash. My wife and I, along with our three boys, had an excellent stay. There are so many positives to this resort. There was so much to keep the kids entertained. The water park was fun for all of us. It had a lot of lifeguards, and they were very attentive. The pools were great...the main pool had great entertainment staff and they had something different to go every couple of afternoons. One day they had waterwalkers, another day they had a[... read more]n inflatable gladiator pyramid...just things to change it up a bit from the water polo and volleyball. Every night around 7, they wheeled in an inflatable castle to entertain the kids while we waited for our food at the a la carte restaurants. We saw three different versions, so they changed it up a bit. Our kids enjoyed the kids club. Video games, crafts and board games inside, trampolines, swings, slides and climbing trees outside.
We do not have any complaints about the food. You did not need reservations at the a la carte restaurants, which we enjoyed. If the restaurant was too busy they gave you a buzzer to let you know when your table was ready. With the Diamond Club, we had access to seven a la cartes, including a few at the Royalton, which you have to go through to get to the beach.
For the first few days, you did not need a card to get your towels for the pool or beach. They were constantly out, and must have gotten complaints because half way through our stay, we had towel cards delivered to the room. We did not have any issues with towels at all for the two weeks.
The place was one of the cleanest I have been to. You always saw someone washing, cleaning, picking up leaves...the place was really well kept.
In all, we had a great trip and could easily see ourselves go back again for another two week stay.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: very nice resort with super friendly staff
This resort exceeded my expectations in every way! I was there APR 23-MARCH 01. The staff were all smiles and were particularly impressive with children; they treated everyone in a friendly and professional manner, (even when customers were demanding and rude). They all seem to speak at least three languages and work very long hours, six days a week. They appreciate tips and toys, pencils etc, but do not seem to expect it.
The entertainment at night is very impressive, and the activities during [... read more]the day are frequent, varied, and fun to watch or participate in. The pools and bars are fabulous and it was never a problem getting a lounge chair or a drink. The beach is long, clean, and accessible, and it's easy to swim or paddle in.
The food is fine - there is a big selection with some new selections each meal, lots of vegetarian or fussy eater options.I only went to one a la carte (Japanese, good entertainment, lots of food) because the buffet was good, maybe better.
There is only wifi access in/near the lobby and it costs $5usd for an hour.
My one, very minor, complaint is that some activities are not publicized very well. I heard indirectly about an evening synchronized swimming show that was spectacular, and the same about the gigantic paella cookouts, but I'm sure lots of people missed these.
There was an interesting and varied mix of people from Canada, France, Germany, Chile,France, Russia.... and a range of ages from very young to very old.
I'll be back next year I'm sure!

Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Service service and more service
Dreams Punta Cana excels in areas where most all-inclusives fail: customer service and food. By far the best all-inclusive in those 2 areas that I have ever seen.
The hotel itself is somewhat dated (ie. rooms) but remains very well kept! Landscaping is pristine

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Very Good Resort
Upgraded our room, very spacious. Great air conditioning, clean, two bathrooms and closets. Maid was excellent. The grounds were beautiful and the food delicious both at the buffet and the A la Carte. Very long property, very private on beach. Sand is brown but so what. The bottom of the ocean was like velvet to the feet. The water was clearer when the waves were low.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Beautiful Samana
After a very smooth check in and friendly greeting from the staff we anxiously made our way to bldg 10 to have a look at the junior suite we had booked. We were pleasantly surprised, our home for the next 7 days was bright, spacious and beautiful. We overlooked the quiet pool and surrounding gardens.
Although wanting to get unpacked we couldn't wait to tour around and get our bearings. The lobby at El Portillo is at the back of the resort, closer to the ocean as opposed to the entrance of the re[... read more]sort, we loved this layou, so nice enjoying a cocktail at the piano bar, in the lounge or enjoying a delicious meal on the outdoor patio at the buffet.
We would highly recommend Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo to anyone whether travelling as a couple or as a family.

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach: Underrated and Underappreciated
We returned from the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach 4 days ago and I wish I was still there. This property is rated 3.5stars, but it is more of a 4 star. We were scared when we got to the lobby expecting a Grandiose area of congregation. The VWDB lobby is for checking wifi and coming and going. That's all. The resort opens up from there with great areas to hangout night and day. The beach is Amazing! White sand turquoise clear wAter and some large areas of coral in waist deep water teeming with fi[... read more]sh and amazing for snorkelling. 3/4 pools are beautiful with bars close at hand. There is a trapeze which is also included. And children 4-12 can use from 9-11. And adults 4-6. The standard room is just that "standard" and doesn't even have a fridge. But before you book look to see if there is a superior room available. Usually they are not much more. There also is bungalows that are stone buildings with thatched roofs. These are great and are closest to the beach. I reccomended these! The food at the main buffet is typical-really good buffet food. Nothing that blew me away but I was content every meal there. The a al carte restaurants were also very good. The Mexican restaurant was actually amazing. You can book into these every night so get into guest services and do it.
The animation team were wonderful! It is a very multicultural hotel. And almost everyone speaks some-decent English. There are a lot of Italians at the resort so don't be offended if they don't speak English first. The animation team is made up of people from all over the world. Italy, Scotland, Brazil, Slovakia and Dominicans. Most can speak 4-5 languages well and they are all fun people and skilled dancers.
At around 8:30 there is usually a band or music in the main courtyard and the animation staff is ever present to teach merengue or bachata. At 9:45 the show starts and was the best shows I've seen at a resort. Except the comedy show. Book a late dinner that day. Following the show there is a fun themed danceparty in the courtyard every night until 12:30 when the staff walks everyone interested to the disco.
This is a very fun hotel with lots to do at any level of participation. The beach is large and although often packed. There are always loungers to be found. I have already recommended this hotel to friends and will return myself. We travelled with our 2 children 5&7.

The layout ( grounds/beach) and facilities were very good. The staff, always a big smile and genuine helpful personality. Go to Staff: speak to Roberto ( yellow shirt lobby ) Meals were good. We were in the main building. Rooms were nice, large enough, and ours had a balcony overlooking the main courtyard. Evening shows and music was entertaining.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Still our favourite - couple of disappointments
8 of us stayed at Gran Ventana Feb 27 - Mar 6. Of the 4 couples, 3 had mobility limitations. I had emailed Marisol well in advance, requesting rooms that would be close to the pool, hence the shortest walk possible. One couple did receive a room, that was only two doors in, the other 2 couples were at the very end of the hallway (including an 85 yr old lady). Needless to say, I was very disappointed, as I didn't feel this was an unreasonable request. As well, we arrived on Friday, tried to book t[... read more]he restaurants and the only availability was 9:00pm sitting, so we didn't get to enjoy any of the restaurant dining. I guess being our 4th and 5th visit, I was hoping for a little more TLC.
On a better note, the resort is truly beautiful, staff is very friendly, resort is very clean, food at the buffet is awesome. You can always find something to eat that you will enjoy. The returning guest dinner was wonderful and greatly appreciated. Will I return? You bet, still an outstanding resort, just a little sad that we couldn't be accommodated.

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Clean but lacking
We were very impressed on how clean it was and how hard they work to keep it clean. We didn't fin that there were enough restaurants. Entertainment was lacking also. Music around pool was very loud and young. We really liked Luis, the one in charge of activities. He was awesome. Everybody was very friendly.
