This resort was well kept and pleasantly staffed, the food was very good and the specialty restaraunts were excellent. If you like to eat then come here. the beach sand is nice and the water has some good spots to swim but there is lots of sea weed in the water. Theres No Beach Grill so you have to get covered up if your hungry. This resort is very clean and surounded by a beautiful golf course.
The food selection is without a doubt excellent at the Buffets. the main pools are a little loud and [... read more]there is an adult pool if you want more quiet but you hear the helicopters and boats all day long. the cigar loung is the only venue which has the specialty coffee's like Spanish or Irish but for some reason they only open at 4:00pm and you have to put up with smokers. This should be moved right next door where there is No Smoking and it's open much longer during the day. No bar in the Main Lobby so everyone hangs out in or in front of the sports bar. it's not a very social place because of this. I liked this Vacation very much but I'm not really sure if I would go back.

Ancora Private Residence Yacht Club and Marina: Great pools
We stayed at Alsol Luxery Resort at the end of January and loved it. The pools are beautifully landscaped and there are 3 to choose from. This is the same with the rooms we were in a jr suit and it was immaculent and huge! The dinner buffet was never a let down with different meals to every night we even had lobster tails two nights. There was only one a la carte open because the hotel was not full but the let us choose off of either the steakhouse or Italian menu because of this. The staff were[... read more] incredible always around if you needed something and super friendly.
There were only a few drawback the main one being there is still quite a bit of construction going on, especially down by the beach. Also the beach itself is very small and not quite what I was expecting. I think they may expand it later on. Also there was absolutely no night life, the disco is still under construction. After 11 it was a ghost town and there only place open was the lobby bar, if you want food you need to get room service which is pretty quick most of the time.
Overall I would go back, in two years when everything is complete.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Not at all what we expected and it wasn't good
Resort was not what it was supposed to be. There was a strong sewer smell through out the resort. Rooms were not that good. tv was about 10 years old. staff at front desk were not helpful at all. discrimination regarding who paid more for there rooms. different beaches we were not allowed to go to because we were not VIP. staff around the resort were great. so called stocked bar in the room consisted of 2 bottles of beer, 2 bottles of pop, 2 bottles of water. that was it for the whole week. no m[... read more]ore. frigde didnt work at first, ceiling in bathroom leaked, air conditioner leaked, no help from the desk. they didnt care. the rep Freddy was not much help. I would have been really upset with the resort if i had paid the money and got what i got. I was glad that i had won the trip and didnt pay the big bucks for that type of resort. did enjoy the food and the staff and the sun. our beach was not looked after. the VIP beaches were raked but not ours because we were considered second class. that was the feeling among alot of people who didnt have the VIP wristbands.pools were great.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: sweet getaway
Let me start by saying this was our first trip to the Dominican...and we would go back again! The ride from the airport was a little 'crowded' but otherwise a good experience, about 60-65 min from Puerto Plato. Upon arrival we were checked in and eating at the buffet within the hour. Rooms were ready after lunch and the vacation officially began! There were always plenty of beach loungers and the weather was fantastic, until the last night when it started to rain and was still raining the next m[... read more]orning at check-out time. My husband took advantage of the free scuba lesson in the pool, and this resulted in his first scuba dive with a certified scuba master. He was impressed with their level of professionalism along with the coral reef and the marine life they saw on their dive. The restaurants had a very good variety of food, including the buffet (fresh pasta bar etc) and we enjoyed all 3 "a la carte" choices. Language was not really a barrier as a smile is universal :) We chose the jeep safari as a day trip and were not
disappointed: taking in local culture and countryside.
Yes there were a few sand fleas, mostly early morn and late afternoon, but the staff was out there fogging the beach every night with bug spray, so they are aware of the situation and do what they can to alleviate the problem without spoiling the atmosphere of the place. Some in our group were not bothered by bugs at all. We had a recently renovated room and were quite happy with our location, close to all amenities, but didn't hear the noise from pool etc.The staff all seemed genuinely happy to be working there and a few went above and beyond their duties to accommodate us at night for a card game marathon! The animation team was great and not too pushy, you could participate if you wanted but no pressure!
We would definitely go back in the future, there were lots of activities to participate in
on the resort, even if it was more isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Breathless Punta Cana Resort: Amazing vacation!!! ~ some room for improvement
the hotel was beautiful. When you arrive, you are welcomed with a delicious drink and a smile. When you check in, you are invited to sit down (this was rather unusual for any hotel/all inclusive I have ever stayed at). Once you are seated with your cold cloth and pretty drink, the sales pitch begins. As we booked Allure, the resort tried to get us to upgrade(which I wasn't expecting), and ended up giving us a "lazy river" view room at no extra charge. From other reviews I read prior to leaving, [... read more]the Xhale club didn't seem like it was worth 50-70/night.
Our room was beautiful. It was spacious and clean. I would say that the room wasn't very bright when you had the drapes closed and all the lights on. However, we didn't really spend much time in the room, so it worked for us and it was perfect for afternoon naps! :)
All of the staff were super friendly and you will hear the word "magnifico" over and over again when you ask the staff how they are. All the people we dealt with were very friendly and tried to help you as best they could.
We had room service twice and it was always delivered within the promised 45 minutes. If you have your heart set on eggs over easy, don't be disappointed when you get them sunny side up! The buffet had loads of options each morning from hot eggs, omelettes made to order, oatmeal, fruit to cold cereal. You can always find something delicious!
The majority of the restaurants were great! We had amazing food at both Sofrito, Silk City, Coquette and Culinaria. The service was amazing and the food left us wanting more. We found that it was best to go early as dinner took on average 2 hours (from seating to finish). The courses were amazing and we had a great time at those restaurants.
The beach was beautiful and our server (Abraham) was so funny! He was quick and always remembered your order from the day before :)
Overall, our vacation was great and we would love to go back!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Very Good
The grounds were beautiful and very well kept.
Public areas were also very clean.
I think that our room was reconditioned but was average at best.
The dinning areas were very good and the staff took good care of us.
Cons. had to pay extra for the use of the security safe.
One hour of free internet each day, extra charge for more internet time.
Many floor areas were wet and unsafe to walk on during steady rain

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Super Relaxing Holiday
This resort was perfect for us as we just wanted to relax and enjoy the sun. The staff was very friendly and the service was very good. The animation team that works the pool and beach area were some of the nicest I have seen at a resort. They made sure to come and say hi every day, they encouraged us to participate in the activities but were not pushy if you said no. I noticed the activities had a lot more participation than I have seen at most other resorts. I am sure this was because of the h[... read more]appy friendly staff. Our room was a little smaller than I am used to but was clean and everything worked properly including the air conditioning. It would have been nice to have a few English channels on the TV but not a big deal.
We had asked for a room close to the resort and when we arrived we were at the far end, we asked at the front desk to me moved. The gentleman serving us went to get the manager and she was very helpful. She moved us to a room close to the resort very quickly and was pleasant while helping us.
The buffet restaurant had very good food, I recommend you do not go as soon as it opens as the food tends to be cold. I assume it sits in the warming bin for a while during the set up, a half hour after opening the bins are restocked and the food is hot. We only went to one of the restaurants and did not enjoy it at all. The staff was not as friendly as in the rest of the resort and the food was not great. We ate in the Mediterranean restaurant, the soup was watery and the lobster was grilled and over cooked so it was charred. I usually love to go to the restaurants for a change from the buffet but this trip did not book anymore after the first night. The other people we spoke to did not have a good experience at any of the restaurant which was a disappointment since I stayed at the Bahai in Mexico and the restaurants were excellent.
It was a great vacation and I would be happy to go back anytime.

Royalton Punta Cana Resort: Quite good resort by Dominican standards
Excellent room service - clean! Large rooms, newly renovated. Daniel: excellent private butler, thanks Daniel ! Diamond Club guest check-in: silly and really annoying.
Got diarrea, met other people with same problem. Prime suspect: Japanese restaurant. Main buffet restaurant quite good, the other restaurants not that great (did not try the steak restaurant, though).
Not much entertainment, but the circus show and magic show unexpectedly good! There is a disco, too.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Be Live Collection Marien
issues:
1. No telephone in our room for 4 days (we were with friends, but they were in a different building than we were so it made communications with them difficult). We had to contact the SunWing rep to get them to change the phone. I was told to go to the room and someone would meet me there. It took in excess of 4 hours to get a new phone.
2. Water pressure in the shower was poor and was never fixed after we mentioned it.
3. The sand at our beach was nice, but on either side it was weedy an[... read more]d was cluttered with garbage
4. The water was green and weedy.
5 The glasses were dirty at the buffet
6. The buffet dinners were "OK", the meat was always over or under cooked (The roasted pig was under cooked and the beef was always over cooked)
7. Not enough dishes, as we were always looking for them
8. Our dinner in the RODIZIO was a big disappointment. The atmosphere was nice, but the meat was well over cooked...almost leather-like
9. The cost of internet access was atrocious... $4.00 for 15 minutes or $60.00/week.
10. There was no designated "smoking" area. Everywhere you walked there was this smell of tobacco. As a non-smoker, this is not pleasant at all.
11. The female employees rarely looked happy, unless you struck up a conversation with them.
12. Public washroom toilets backed up after a night of rain.
13. The drinks (pina colada's and margareta's) were made with mixes at the pool bar and snack bar. If I wanted "mixes", I would have stayed home.
Pros:
1. Felt safe and the resort had a relaxed atmosphere
2. We had an upgraded room. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable
3 Our housekeeper was pleasant and did a very good job

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Very nice week
The hotel grounds were beautiful. The food was excellent. The room was spacious and well kept. The Makaido served great sushi and the Italian restaurant was excellent too. Often on sight restaurants are a change of location only but these two offered unique menus with excellent food. The Mediterranean restaurant had great service but the food was not as good.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Will definitely be coming back!
We were at Grand Paradise Samana from January 21-28 and all I can say is it was really an amazing time. The resort is an hour and a half away from the airport but that was not really a bother as we also get to do some sightseeing on our way there. We were greeted by the friendly staff with some refreshing drinks, check-in was fast and no problem at all, safe is also available for $15.
Our room was a bit far from the lobby (no complaints, we had not asked for a specific room when booking) but al[... read more]so the grounds of the resort is really big. Room is spacious enough, bathroom's okay as well, and there's a tv which we didn't even bother to use.
We stayed mostly by the beach (not really a big fan of pools in general, better view at beach anyway), so beautiful and long very nice for a walk along the shore. There was quite a bit of seaweed, which I'm not a fan of at all, but I've managed to just keep my feet on the clear areas. Water is very clear even when you go a bit further. My boyfriend and I went kayaking a few times (free activity) and we were surprised how shallow the water even if you go further. Like the beach starts shallow, then deep, then shallow again. It was quite interesting, we tried snorkelling, saw some starfishes.
Food was okay. It is not the best but they try to give you different varieties everyday. I'm not a big eater, I only consume what my body needs so the food was okay enough to survive through the week. Although there are actually a few items that I really like from their selection.
Went on the Los Haitises Tour, it was very good, and really interesting. Lots of history, you will be surprised. Great wild life, never seen rare birds and different animals up close until here. What made the boat ride exciting was that we had seen at least for dolphins just swimming freely around us while we cross Samana Bay. That was quite a show. Bacardi Island was beautiful, nice tourist spot, good food served at lunch too.
Spent about two days outside the resort, the town of Las Galeras is about 10 minutes if you take the beach. Nice pathway too, you'll be surprised of what you find in it. Had dinner at a local place, two lobsters, rice, plantains, veggies and cold Presidente for $20. How awesome.
The staff of Grand Paradise really do work hard, I don't think we've ever been ignored like everyone says hi and acknowledges you it was very pleasant. Robert, the bartender at the Sports Bar by the beach was so awesome. Very friendly to everyone who comes by. Love his music, makes the bar lively. Francesco and the animation team are the best, love him, he's so funny. Angelo was very nice to us as well, he is our server at the buffet breakfast every morning. Front desk staff are all helpful, Alvaro was a good guy, always friendly and conversational.
Overall, we really enjoyed our trip. Would definitely come back and maybe with family this time. My boyfriend and I really didn't fall into the age group of who else was there on our stay, everyone is much older, but still ain't a problem, guests were friendly so we made some friends along the way. Wish I went to the actual town of Samana but had no time. Again, lovely place, great people, and the beaches are beautiful!!!!!
